Acrobat 9 pro..... Photo Dimensions
OK - This is simple.
I am creating a PDF with 104 pictures.
Some of the pictures are around 250K
After I get all of the pictures in there about half of them are shrunk to about a quarter of their original size.
All pictures are already trimmed at 800 pixels wide.
That is how big I want them.
I do not care how big the file is when I am done.
Any Clues??
I am at the end of my rope here.....
If there is one thing I can not stand it is software that thinks it knows better than I do...

You are probably better off importing the graphics into a word processor or layout package and sizing to what you want there, then printing to the Adobe PDF printer to get the PDF. I just imported a TIFF file and it came in at exactly the same pixels and size that I get as the information provided in IrfanView. If you are wanting to control the size and all, then you need to be sure all of your graphics are properly sized, not just in pixels but pixels per inch. If you use another application and print to the Adobe PDF printer, you can probably control the size much better.

How to change PDF document dimensions - Acrobat Pro 9
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to change the dimensions of my PDF in Acrobat Pro.
The original artwork was created in Illustrator and the final document is primarily for screen use (not print) so was created using pixels (600x665px to be precise). However when the artwork is created into a PDF, when viewed (and printed) in Acrobat, it is rather large and I want to make this smaller.
If anyone can advise on this it'd be much appreciated!

HSYou might play with the Touchup Object tool off the Advanced Editing toolbar.
Use the tool to select the image. Any of the four corners can be "grabbed" and a mouse drag will let you change the space occupied, on the PDF page, by the image. Not a "fine control" but, sometimes, all that's needed.
Or, in Preferences > Touchup category - the associated configuration pane permits selection of an installed image editor.
Now, using the Touchup Object tool's context menu, you can use the "Edit Image..." selection.
Edit the image and return it to the PDF.

How to remove file path location listings from photos and objects in Acrobat Pro 9.0 PDF?
After converting a windows-based Powerpoint 2007 presentation to an Acrobat Pro 9.0 PDF, the file path location of all photos and objects are shown in a dialogue box when the cursor is moved over the image as seen in this screenshot below. How can I stop this from happening and remove this feature on my pdf documents?
I saw that referenced on a forum, but it does not seem to address the issue I am having.
As per Adobe Acrobat X Standard * What’s new, the equivalent to the "Tools > Protection > Remove Hidden Information" utility found in Acrobat X Standard is the same as the "Document > Examine Document" feature in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Those tools seem to cover meta data, book marks, hidden text, and deleted or cropped content, but not the file path listings that appear on images and objects converted from Powerpoint presentations and other MS Office programs.
I have reviewed the settings used while creating a pdf, and have also tried the “Advanced > Preflight tool”, but could not find anything to apply to the issue at hand.
Thus, this issue has not been resolved, but seems like it should be an easy fix that anyone who publishes pdf documents would want to use to publish clean, professional documents without anyone seeing the file path location of every object and image shown in the document on their hard drive. -
I have a customer who uses Adobe Acrobat Pro 11. When she receives PDFs, she cannot see the color green, certain boxes(most of the ones she cannot see all have green in them),and pictures. When I opened this same PDF document in Adobe Reader 11, Adobe Acrobat Standard 11, and Fox it reader, I could see everything as normal. Her version of Acrobat is up to date. I posted this Acrobat installations & Update Issues, not sure if correct or not. She has Windows 7 Professional 64x

TS4066 Mail, Toast, Acrobat Pro, et. al., crash frequently in 10.8.2
Running OS X 10.8.2 (12C60) on MacBook 5,1 (late 2008 aluminum), 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3, ST9750420AS 750.16GB HDD more or less without incident since Mountain Lion was introduced. In the last month, and particularly in the last week, I'm experiencing app crashes with alarming regularity. Acrobat Pro 9.5.2, Adobe CS4 11.02, Mail 6.2 to name a few. Address Book has been non-functional since a Genius Bar appointment one year ago and I'm unclear how AB and Contacts are intended to play together [or not?]. A few days ago I downloaded an update to Roxio Toast Titanium v11.1, inserted a photo CD into the SuperDrive to burn a copy, and there was no response...in a minute or so it ejected the photo CD and crashed (see attached report). The SuperDrive works with other DVDs and Music CDs but otherwise unresponsive to Toast.app and remains so.
Directly following that incident, I began experiencing regular crashes with otherwise common apps [e.g. Mail 6.2 (1499)]. At first it crashed several times (see report below) and I performed the usual series of remedies beginning with a simple Disk Utility Permission Repair and Verification…it passed. Following recommended procedures, quit all applications and performed the series of tests prior to resetting the SMC. No luck. Started in Safe Mode…no apps with slashed circle. Reset PRAM to no effect. Tried the Apple Hardware (long - 2½ hr) test with original install disc…passed without a hitch; Tech Tool Deluxe tests indicated no departure from normal. Long story short, went through the entire list of 15 diagnostic tests which purportedly will not exacerbate the issue or entail data removal/destruction/rewriting/reinstallation. Safari Version 6.0.2 (8536.26.17) began to show signs of fatigue and crashed more than once.
I'm not unfamiliar with OS X and its predecessors, OpenStep and NeXTStep, though until recently I've always had the benefit of both a sysadmin and IT Manager in my employ. No longer. Apple's Business-to-Business relations people recommended somebody local who sent a lieutenant to fool around with Ubuntu, before pronouncing my drives defunct—had to remind him he was trying to fix a Mac Pro which works just fine so please concentrate on the MacBook.
The MacBook uses an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU so using the mini-Display Port to Dual-Link DVI adapter I can switch from a 13" display to my 30" Cinema Display as desired. For a period the Apple Keyboard Hub demanded 500 mA of current while only 100 mA was available. Solved that.
All of which led up to the most vexing issue I've faced yet (n.b. I'm not so digitally literate that I understand much of what's addressed on these forums). I've continually upgraded through PowerBooks, then MacBooks, and so forth but never felt confident the ghosts of OSs past have been fully excised—and would really like to know how to do that. I back up to an external HDD with CCC which is comforting but not helpful when trying to remove outdated preferences, apps, even an HP PostScript Software RIP which survived the transition from Classic!
Recently tried a very judicious use of Onyx and thought some progress had been made, but evidently not the case. Mail, in particular, not only crashes but when it does remain running, it will not respond to print requests...except with an error tone. Feeling sorely vexed and appears I have company. The Crash Logs for Mail and Toast are included below, as is the System Diagnostic Report for an Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.2 Hang. With luck they will be more meaningful to someone here than they are to me. Naturally, any and all assistance which may be forthcoming will be gratefully received.

A close inspection of theSystem Profiler turned up a USB High-Speed Bus issue. I use a wired keyboard together with a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link Adapter to make use of a 30" Cinema Display at my desk—the USB hardware device tree showed the Apple Keyboard USB Hub required 500 mA of current when only 100 mA was available.
After some reading, I realized not all USB ports are created equal…and realized I'd probably connected them in the wrong order. Disconnecting all the USB devices and then reconnecting them in a 'logical' sequence apparently supplies these same devices with enough current to keep them happy.
A second possibility suggested itself on realizing that the number and nature of crashes soared following the installation of Toast Titanium 11. Eventually I found a preference file (com.roxio.Toast.plist) complaining"syntax error cannot parse a NULL or zero-length data." Removing the offending file seems to have had a beneficial effect beyond that particular app, though perhaps a sequence of attention to the usual cache purges and system resets, plus a dose of cod liver oil, has cumulatively effected a lull in the crash history.
I've avoided installation of any anti-viral, anti-malware and other similar software products to protect, accelerate or otherwise improve performance, relying on more hardware memory and a faster, larger HDD to reduce the overall load. How do I create the highest quality pdfs with InDesign CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9? New settings needed?
I sent a lot of jobs to printing companies by sending them high-res proofs on very large, multiple page jobs with lots of photos and graphics. Many companies are requesting that I just send pdfs. I just upgraded to Windows 7 and CS5. I used to have some special settings in my older Acrobat Distiller and InDesign which have been lost. They gave a much better result that what I seem to be getting from the "Press Quality" setting for pdf's. Does anyone have an excellent list of settings that can used to improve the quality of pdf's? I don't know if this is a combination of settings in both InDesign itself, as well as in Acrobat Distiller, or if the settings in one program will solve this. I have a job pending that needs improvement in the pdf quality. Thank you.
Thanks Peter. My last post was specific to using the Print Booklet feature (which is now solved thanks to your help). But this is related to creating high-res pdfs in general that go to printing companies, and being used for sending high-res proofs to clients. Those settings did in fact give a better result than the Press Quality settings built into my Adobe programs. I have had printers over the years request that I create a postscript file, then use distiller (using the settings they supplied) and I got an excellent result. After getting a new computer, Windows 7 and new CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9 upgrade, all of these settings were lost. I have notes on the settings from a couple of years ago, but they don't seem to apply to the CS5 programs in every given area and I feel like there may be just a couple of boxes that either should or shouldn't be checked that I'm missing now.
I understand that this is very specific information, and I may just need to go with the Press Quality settings. The printing company that gave me that great info a while back is no longer in business and other printing companies I have checked with won't spend that kind of time with me (or maybe they don't know anything other than using the Print Quality setting). Maybe within the CS5 program now, the quality of this setting has been improved more than I realize yet. Again, I'm new to CS5 and am just trying to get everything back to the way I used to have things running, and trying to get the best results possible.

Setting trim box bug in Acrobat Pro 7 & 8 - try it...
I have filed this bug a few times with Adobe over the past months but there doesn't seem to be any movement. I'd download the trial of Acrobat 9 Pro to check but alas us Mac users are not deemed worthy of that.
I implore anyone who can to try out the following:
- Open up an existing PDF or create a new, blank one. Zoom out to a point where you get a good amount of "no-man's land" gray around your document.
- Go to Document->Crop Pages... and pick "trim box" from the drop down menu.
Now start moving the right-hand constraint of the trim box using the "up" arrow widget and see what happens in the main document window. For me and the users that I support, the guide that represents the right-hand trim box constraint will start coming in from the right-most side of the document window, that is, inside the gray out-of-bounds area. In addition to the guide being in the wrong place it also doesn't get redrawn every time the right-hand margin is moved by the standard .125" step by clicking the "up" or "down" widget. As a result there will be a whole mess of black vertical guides left on the screen, obscuring the actual position of the guide regardless of whether or not it is placed on the screen in accordance to the right-hand trim box constraint setting. Similarly, the main document can be zoomed in to fit to window but the guide will still be drawn incorrectly and exhibit the same "ghosting".
All of this has remained the same between versions 8.0 and 8.1.2 of Acrobat Pro and in one of my discussions with an Adobe tech rep who was testing it on his side I was told it also exists in Acrobat Pro 7. It is an issue because the small preview window in the Crop Pages window is not very useful when working with large document dimensions that need precise trimming adjustments beyond a standard eight or quarter inch all around.
Hopefully someone else can confirm this issue while I try to find out whether Acrobat 9 still exhibits the same behavior.
Thanks.This has been a problem since version 8 on the mac. Acrobat 7 on the mac worked fine with the right side trim but not on the PC.
We are still having this problem with Acrobat 9.4.0 on the Mac & PC.
This has now been an issue for 2 versions of Acrobat Pro.(8 & 9)
Being in Pre Press and having to constantly set the trim for jobs, this is now taking up too much time and costing money.
Please fix this Adobe.
and on another note. how hard would it be to display the trim (if set) next to where the page size is?
If the trim is set it should display it! why should we have to go to document/crop pages>trim.
Im in a busy Pre Press Dept and the amount of times you have to check a trim size is stupid.
I always set prefs to display crop / trim / and bleed boxes and this helps but it should display it if its set.

Adobe acrobat pro 9.5.5 incompatibility with preview
anybody having incompatibility btwn these two programs? when I edit a PDF in Acrobat Pro 9.5.5, like this:
and then open the edited PDF in Preview, it looks like this:
text boxes disappear, arrows disappear, some text turns to nonsense (here's another example, where text is not aligned properly in text box):
any thoughts?Unfortunately no. However, I did try converting several other stock photos that I have on my machine, and that worked fine. This leads me to believe there is something "different" about the first set of JPGs that I was trying to convert. Maybe a security setting on the camera that they were taken with? Printing problem in Acrobat Pro
Hello all.
I have acrobat pro CS4 and have just made this my default from Preview as I am finding print output from preview is really bad.
However I am having an issue in Pro.
I cannot seem to make it understand the dimensions my printer can goto. I have a phaser 8550 which can print to within 8mm of the edge of the paper (A4)
Now if I tell it to reduce to fit and print it will print with the bottom edge being a good inch from the edge. If I tell it not to reduce then it will print to within the 8in, but of course the image is cropped.
Is there anyway to get this right?You say you're using Verdana but you're not. The error message clearly shows you're using MyriadPro Bold.
You probably recently installed the Mac OS X 10.6.7 update which has a bug with OpenType PostScript fonts like MyriadPro Bold. Either use Verdana or another TrueType or PostScript font, or revert to Mac OS X 10.6.6.

Large images not displaying properly in Acrobat Pro 9
When creating PDF documents from any software (Illustrator, Corel, InDesign, etc), color objects over 50% of the page size have white fill. If object has an outline, the outline will appear normally, but the fill will be white. I've searched forums everywhere and have found no answer. Most forum topics on this are issue focus on settings in the program that exported the PDF. I am 99% sure this is not an export problem, but is something in Acrobat itself (a missed setting? Corrupt program file?)
To provide the best information, I've done a little scientific research. Here is what I know:
Currently running Acrobat Pro 9.5.5
This is only happening on ONE install of Acrobat 9. Documents display correctly in Reader X and in Acrobat 9 on other machines.
Started happening a few weeks ago, I have no idea what changed.
"Show Large Images" in preferences dialog is checked. Unchecking it and rechecking it does nothing.
Have installed all available updates to the software
I experimented with different object sizes. At 50% of page size, objects appeared normal, at 51% filled object disappears.
Does not affect photos, only affects vector objects.
I welcome all ideas to fix this.
ALSO - Am running this on Windows Vista 64 BitHello? Is there nobody in the Adobe universe that has an actual solution to my problem?
Other things I've tried to solve this:
repair the install.
uninstall and reinstall
cuss at the computer
throw a tantrum.
I will pay someone a whole dollar for a solution that works. -
Creating an interactive form in Acrobat Pro 9.5.5
Can anyone advise if what I am planning is possible given the version I am using. I am using a Mac.
I am trying to create a briefing form for a design studio that will allow people requesting artwork to enter the relevant information (dates, page count etc.) and then for the form to calculate the number of days that it will take and the cost (based on a daily rate x number of days).
The form will initally be produced in InDesign CS5 and exported as a PDF and then edited in Acrobat Pro 9.5. Essentially, the form needs to be able to calculate date ranges (i.e. number of work days between two dates) and then calculate prices based on a daily work rate (which would be hidden to the user). I would also need it to calculate totals say based on the following example:
1-2 page document - allow ten days.
For every additional 2 pages add a day
"Is photography required?" If yes, add a day for up to 5 photos. etc.
Before I even attempt this, I need to know if it is even possible given the version I am using. If not, I will explore doing it in Excel, but I would far prefer using Acrobat.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.It's possible to do the calculations using JavaScript. The hardest part may be determining what's a working day and what's not. If it's certain days of the week (Mon-Fri) it's not too much of a problem, but it can get complicated if you have to contend with holidays or other irregular non-work days.

Our former office printer (Xerox 7345) had no problem with this. But the new Xerox 7830 fails to obey the "Choose paper source by PDF page size" option in Acrobat Pro. Even the "Page Setup" is overridden by the Xerox printer driver. It is extremely annoying to have to go into the Xerox driver dialog every time, regardless of that check in the box and the correct dimensions being displayed in the picture.....
Unfortunately, not only does this not solve the problem with multi-page-size documents, but it's begun happening on files which are all one size as well, where that box isn't even checked.
It appears that what's happening is the newer versions of Adobe Acrobat don't play nicely with emulated postscript support past a certain date. We're replacing our Canon with a newer model that has actual postscript support, and if that resolves the issue I'll be certain to post confirmation here. Copies of Adobe Acrobat 7 and 8 in our office haven't seen this problem at all; it's simply everyone who has upgraded past that point that can't print reliably.
More news next week, after we get the new copier. -

I need to make a PDF from approximately 600 photos. Is the application Adobe Acrobat Standard competent to achieve this task? Or is it preferable to purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro and why?
Neither has particular limits relevant to this.
If you are making for professional publishing, Acrobat Pro contains print production tools.
However, be aware that YOU DO NOT LAY OUT DOCUMENTS OR MAKE BOOKS IN ACROBAT. Sorry to be emphatic, but some people have received the view that it replaces Word, InDesign, Publisher or whatever. It doesn't. -

I have 4 x 300+ page PDFs (made from iPhone photo jpgs of old typed documents) that I made into PDFs and then tried OCR but it failed saying the pages exceed the 45 x 45 inch limit.
Is there anyway I can reduce the 45 inch problem - for each batch/multiple page file - and not have to resize each jpg image individually ?
