Acrobat 9 Pro possessed, opening docs on its own.  What do I do?

I scanned a document and printed to Adobe Acrobat. This opened the Acrobat
program. At some point, either when I was last in Acrobat or today when I told
the program to print to Acrobat, Acrobat seems to think I want several hundred
files opened at once, and proceeds to do so. They seem to be randomly selected
from my collection of PDF docs. I eventually get an error message saying I've
opened too many, please close some. I click ok and absolutely nothing happens
(as far as I can tell). As long as the error message is up I can't close the open docs (but again, OK does nothing).
When I go to the toolbar, all options are grayed out.
The only thing I can do is Force Quit, but when I re-open the same thing happens
all over again (it appears that the same docs are opening, in the same order).
Can anyone tell me how to stop this demon-possession and prevent it from
happening in the future?
With gratitude,
Heidi

• Using VBA - Check to see if Acrobat Pro is open on users machine

Hello all. I have an Access application that generates a bunch of single page PDF reports in a folder on the users machine, then when it is finished, it combines all of the files into a single pdf file on the users desktop. If the user has left Acrobat Pro open before he starts running the reports, when it begins to try to combine the files, he will get an error message.
I would like to check to see if Adobe Acrobat Pro is open early on in the routine so that the user doesn't have to spend so much time regenerating the reports again. I have not been able to find any VBA code that will do this. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
David

Hello Test Screen Name. I do trap for the error and generate a friendly error message to ask the user to close Adobe Acrobat. The problem is, depending on the criteria they select for the report, it could take 5 to 10 minutes before they ever see that error message because of the hundreds of individual pdf reports it has to generate. It is not until my code is ready to combine those pdf files that they see the message. So, it is not really a runtime error so to speak.
But, I found the answer to my question and wanted to share it with everyone. The answers are located here:
API: Find out if an application is currently running
API: Get Class name of a running app
What I did is paste all code from those 2 pages into a new module in Access. Then I made sure that Adobe Acrobat is loaded on my machine. I ran the sub fEnumWindows() and it printed the Class Names of all of my open programs. I got the class name for Adobe Acrobat, which is AcrobatSDIWindow. Then I modified the select case statement in the following function as so, to include the string acrobat and its Class Name:
Function fIsAppRunning(ByVal strAppName As String, _
            Optional fActivate As Boolean) As Boolean
        Dim lngH As Long, strClassName As String
        Dim lngX As Long, lngTmp As Long
        Const WM_USER = 1024
        On Local Error GoTo fIsAppRunning_Err
        fIsAppRunning = False
        Select Case LCase$(strAppName)
            Case "excel":      strClassName = "XLMain"
            Case "word":        strClassName = "OpusApp"
            Case "access":      strClassName = "OMain"
            Case "powerpoint95": strClassName = "PP7FrameClass"
            Case "powerpoint97": strClassName = "PP97FrameClass"
            Case "notepad":    strClassName = "NOTEPAD"
            Case "acrobat":  strClassName = "AcrobatSDIWindow"
            Case "wordpad":    strClassName = "WordPadClass"
            Case Else:          strClassName = vbNullString
        End Select
        If strClassName = "" Then
            lngH = apiFindWindow(vbNullString, strAppName)
        Else
            lngH = apiFindWindow(strClassName, vbNullString)
        End If
        If lngH <> 0 Then
            apiSendMessage lngH, WM_USER + 18, 0, 0
            lngX = apiIsIconic(lngH)
            If lngX <> 0 Then
                lngTmp = apiShowWindow(lngH, SW_SHOWNORMAL)
            End If
            If fActivate Then
                lngTmp = apiSetForegroundWindow(lngH)
            End If
            fIsAppRunning = True
        End If
fIsAppRunning_Exit:
        Exit Function
fIsAppRunning_Err:
        fIsAppRunning = False
        Resume fIsAppRunning_Exit
End Function
Now I can just send "acrobat" to this function to see if the app is open.
Sincerely,
David

• Why is 11.1.3 opening all on its own?

The app is opening randomly on its own and even after I close the app and force close it in some instances, it continuously opens and I can't accomplish a thing as it starts playing music...and randomly starts and stops the song. It is very weird and annoying. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks a ton!

my iTunes has stopped the annoying issue... but I have no idea how I stopped it.  I think, after I downloaded iTunes from the App store again - it took another 2 days and rectified itself.  Sorry I can't be of help and hope you all manage to have this issue resolved.

• ITunes 11.0.1 keeps opening up on its own.

Hi all. I have Win 7 64 bit. I have disabled wifi synch I beleive as well as home sharing. Would appreciate any help from anyone as its driving me nuts.
iTunes will invariably open up on its own no matter what I am doing. if I close it, then in 15 mins or so will do it again.
I've learned to just keep it open as a stop-gap measure but hope someone can offer some advice.
Thanks

Woohoo !
It's nothing to worry about and it's certainly not a virus (there aren't any that affect Macs) - it's the icon from an application in your Utilities folder called X11. You can safely click on it, drag it off the dock and it will disappear in a puff of smoke. If it has a a little blue blob under it it means that the app is open so click and hold the icon on the dock and select quit and then drag it off the dock.
It's also worth looking in System Preferences>Users & Groups (if you're on Lion) Accounts (if you're Leopard/Snow Leopard) and click on the Login items tab and check X11 isn't listed. If it is, click on the minus sign to remove it from startup items.
Not sure what X11 is for, I've never used it, but I think it might be something to do with programming (probably wrong though )
Edited to add: Looking at your pic again it has got a blob under it so I reckon it's launching at startup, so do as I suggest with login items or click and hold the icon on the dock and deselect 'Open at Login' under 'Options'.

It sounds like an issue of trying to run XI on VISTA. That combination does not work. Info on both the Acrobat full version (including sub-version) and OS would help. It might also be an issue of running 11.0.0 on a system that needs the updates to work.

• Acrobat Pro X Opens Every Document Directly to Page 2. WTF?????

Hello. I updated to Acrobat Pro X and now when I try to open a PDF file from a link on my website, it automatically opens every document starting on Page 2, instead of Page 1 as I have set in "Properties"
When I open the documents independent of the web browser, they open directly to Page 1, as specified.
What gives?
Anyone else having this problem?
I think I might punch Adobe Acrobat right in its face as my customers are going to open the docs on my site and go "WTF????????!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!" and then poop their pants.
What to do?

I was having a similar problem, but only when viewing PDFs that were set to "fit page", and only when viewing in the browser.  "Fit width" PDFs worked fine.
I am running Pro 9 but made the mistake of installing Reader X.  (This could explain why PDFs opened locally were fine, but those opened in a browser are not.)
I finally uninstalled Reader X.  PDFs now open to page 1 properly.  Strangely, I didn't have to reinstall Reader 9... I guess it's now using Pro 9 to view in the browser?
Not sure if this is a bug in Reader/Pro X or just a problem with having different versions of Reader and Pro on the same machine, but I thought I'd at least add a "me too" to the topic.

• Mac Book Pro i7 - Logging off on its own, night time, power down sleep

Hi Everyone,
I have had my Macbook pro for around 4 months now.
And I have had this problem from the beginning.
At night, often when I leave my machine, with software open and things active.
I come back in the morning to find my mac logged off and at the login screen.
Can anyone suggest what would be causing this?
I have  MAC OSX 10.6.7
8GB of DDR3 RAM
2.8 GHZ Core i7 Processor
I have tried SMC resets and it doesnt seem to work.
Any ideas of why my mac book pro might be logging off on its own would be great!
Thank you.

• Acrobat Pro 9 opens multiple files (50) on every start

Start the program or click on a pdf file and - pro 9 opens and loads every ******* pdf file I've had open in the past however long.  Seems to be a limit of 50 files - tries to load a few more and then stops.  What's changed since I last used it normally yesterday afternoon?  Nothing other than rebooting the computer.
Appreciate any help.

This is usually solved by deleting your Acrobat preferences.  Since you did not state your OS I cannot give you the path to your preferences but there should be a doc in the knowledge base pointing you in the right direction.  Good Luck!

• Why does the DC installer remove Acrobat Pro XI, and all of its plugins, without warning?

When you run the "Update" to Acrobat DC, Acrobat XI, and any plugins you are using, disappear. There is no warning. Pro XI is just simply gone.
It is not possible to install Pro XI along side of DC. If you try, the install seems to work, but the Applications folder only contains DC.
Also: Acrobat Pro XI does not appear in the Previous Versions list in the Creative Cloud app.
The only way I have found to get Pro XI back is to uninstall DC, then go to the Pro XI Download page: https://creative.adobe.com/products/acrobat
Click Download, and the CC applet will download and re-install Acrobat Pro XI. You will then need to re-install all your plugins.
Adobe: Thank you so much for creating a massive support headache for your customers! Your ability to screw us over knows no bounds.

Thank you very much for taking your time and answering all the itens.
01. My description was subpar. I mean this:
03. I did test and the number of icons it supports in each row is smaller.
04. Are you sure this is the behavior of XI? I did edit the whole RHP creating new groups and arranging the tools accordingly to my workflow. I did not remember to not be able to remove/add a tool.
05. The second bar is not permanent. But I understand Adobe chose to clean the UI this way and I simply prefer the other way.
06. I still did not find the improvements. To place tools in top bar or RHP is also possible in XI. But of course I take your word and will get deeper on this.
08. Thanks, I was thinking about a tool to search contents.
10. I mean to dismiss definitively. Did not found a preference for this. And there is no X.
11. It centers the window vertically no matter the exact position of the last used. Not a serious issue, but still an issue. For example: I set all windows to align to notifications. Acrobat does not:
Acrobat is behind iTunes notification
Front: Path Finder, back: Acrobat and InDesign behind all
Acrobat is behind InDesign window, small difference at bottom
Illustrator also forgets position and open aligned at top
12. Very very big grey Open dialog under Mac OS X
13. It does not crash under a given operation. It occurs with any PDF file and even with no file open. Since the DC install, Illustrator also begun to crash, although less frequently. An example:
I was using 10.10.2 until some hours ago and now with the updated 10.10.3 the problem remains. I will have to do more tests trying to identify a common element or at least some clue, but the other apps, Adobe's or not, are running OK. If I get any new on this, I will keep you informed.
