Acrobat 9 Pro printing very slow

Dear All,
I have recently installed Acrobat 9 Pro on Mac OS 10.6 Snow Tiger. Works fine, but is incredibly slow in printing. Spooling takes ages.
The same files printed with Adobe Reader or Mac Preview print instantly (it's only text files, nothing heavy).
I have made sure that the "print as image" option is deselected. This happens with any printer (I have tried it on an HP LJ1300, an HP LJ2055, an Aficio 5000, Aficio 2000, and a Xerox Workcenter - so I suppose it has to do with Acrobat, not with the printer).
Thanks
Andrea

For both of you See if there is a new print Driver version for your printer.
For the person with OSX.6 (Snow Leopard)  do the following to install.
go to printer Utility and Delete the current Driver from list (after downloading latest Driver from Manufacturer).
install new Driver perinstaller.
Open Printer Utility
look for the new Printer listing and select.
Choose new Printer Listing as Your default Printer
close Printer Utility.
Go to System Preferences
Click Printing & Faxing (if still named that in SnowLeopard)
Choose your new printer Driver as default there as well.
close System Prefernces
Your now set to use the latest Driver

  • Acrobat 9 pro is very slow.

    hello all,
i just wanted to know if anyone out there has a workaround, a band aid, a hack for Acrobat 9 pro? basically it is just sluggish functionality overall. i do alot of markups on pdfs and lately their is along lag after selecting a markup tool and clicking on the the document. opening and saving a file is very sluggish as well.
i can't disable the Webapi plugin because that controls the markup tools. i've searched around the web and no answer. if any knows of web site or a workaround for this problem that has is common in acrobat, i would really appreciate hearing from you. it's been really frustrating.
    thanks again

yup that did the trick. i created a test profile and the functionality of Acrobat was snappy. next i just renamed my original user profile, restarted and Acrobat is finally running much better. thanks so much for your advice brennao, ~graffiti.

  • Acrobat XI printing very slow

    Hi,
Just upgraded to Acrobat XI v11.0.0.379 from v9 on a Windows 7 x64 system. I find the printing very slow compared to v9. I have a single page text PDF that I print regularly. Under v9, it takes 7-10 seconds to start the print. Under XI, it takes 6-7 minutes to print the same document. Anyone know why this is happening? BTW, I discovered if I set it to "print as image", it will print at about the same speed as v9.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hey @wmowafi,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing a slow printing issue on Windows 8.1 when printing to your HP Laserjet P1006 Printer. I would like to work with you today at resolving this issue. Now the only driver available for your product on Windows 8.1 is a hostbased plug and play basic generic driver. Therefore, there is limitations for what can be done for troubleshooting. As you stated, you have already attempted an uninstalled and reinstalled of the driver to no avail. I'm going to suggest some further steps and tools to resolve this issue for you.
    Step 1: Uninstall Your Printer:
    Disconnect your USB cable
Click the following link: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled to access the Microsoft Uninstall Tool.
Once the website opens, select Run Now on the right hand side
    Allow the Tool to run.
    When prompted choose Uninstall
A list of programs should populate and you're looking for the Laserjet. It may appear as LJ P1000 series. Please select the Laserjet series and Uninstall it.
If the Laserjet doesn't show in the list of programs than your Windows 8.1 computer does not see the Laserjet driver as properly installed.
Step 2: Clear the Temp Files:
Launch your Start screen by right clicking on the Windows icon on the bottom left of your screen or by select the Windows button on your keyboard located to the right of the Ctrl button.
Once the Start screen launches, type the word Run
Click on Run to launch it
In the Run box type %temp% and select OK
Once the Temp folder opens, hold down Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard and everything will highlight in the folder. Select 'Delete' on your keyboard. Don't worry, no files or folders on your actual computer will be removed during this process. If a file is still be used on your computer you will get a pop up to 'skip' the file
Once the Temp folder is emptied of its files, close the window
On your Desktop, right click on the Recycling Bin and left click on 'Empty Recycling Bin'
    Restart you computer
Step 3: Reinstall the Laserjet P1006:
Please keep your USB cable disconnected
Click on the following link: HP LaserJet P1000-P1500 Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver
The driver page for your product will now launch
Select Download and allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete an extraction will automatically run and once completed the installer will launch
Run through the step-by-step on screen instructions.
Please do not plug in your USB cable until prompted
Ensure that your USB cable is plugged in from the rear of the printer directly to the computer. Avoid extenders or docking stations as they can cause printing and communication issues.
    Test printing!
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!

I’ve tried running 10.10 on quite a few different computers with 4GB of RAM and a standard mechanical hard drive and all of them performed worse with Yosemite than they did with Mavericks (10.9). And about a year ago I found that they performed better with Mt Lion (10.8) than Mavericks. Each version of the Mac OS has required more memory than the version that came before it and that means that every couple of years the minimum acceptable RAM is increased. Apple signaled this quietly at the Apple Store - only one computer now ships with 4GB of RAM. (And I can tell you from personal experience that in that configuration it is not fun to use.)
Bottom line: you need at least 8GB of RAM or an SSD. Both are better. In the meantime run as lean a machine as possible. MacKeeper is a waste of money no matter what anyone might tell you. At best it is not necessary and is a waste of money.

  • My MacBook Pro is Very Slow

My MacBook Pro system is operating very slowly. Apps take quite a while to open (oftentimes 2-3 minutes or longer) and navigating through my documents is cumbersome. I get the spinning wheel while I'm searching for a document. The machine appears to be running most of the time, as if something is going on in the background. Thanks for any help that anyone can provide. I only open the apps that I need at the time.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • My MacBook Pro gets very slow while doing  work like watching movies and using net .. video gets lag very often

My MacBook Pro gets very slow while doing  work like watching movies and using net .. video gets lag very often and while surffing on net it gets very slow ...

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

Scanning for a virus will be a waste of time.  To date there are no know virus' affecting Macs.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.

    Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
