Acrobat 9 Pro update download problems

Note: I recently hooked up a Samsung 830 128GB SSD to an old Dell Optiplex GX280. The OS is Win XP Pro. I've had issues running the Windows and Microsoft Update manually and had to resort to just using auto-updates (which for some reason works without problem).
I am unable to get updates for Acrobat from both the "Check for Updates" in Acrobat Pro and from the site. Pro's update option is just trying to download the updater. As for the site, it's from downloading any update from the download section for Acrobat.
In both cases, the download stalls itself at around 80-99.9% complete. I had no issues installing Acrobat 9 Pro. I noticed that before stalling, the download rate drastically drops before locking itself. So it might have been downloading at 900KB, when it hits around the 80% mark it'll drop to around 300KB and quickly drop further. It usually locks itself at 100-200KB/sec. Mind you, the download window or browser are not frozen. I can still interact with them without issues (I can download other things, browse pages, and cancel that locked download). The in-program updater might stall itself after I click cancel, but it usually functions properly by showing that window with options to take in canceling.
The one that stands out the most is the fact I can't download the updates manually. I've tried Firefox and Chrome, and both result in the same problem. I've also tried this with several update files. Oddly enough, it's only the update files that have this problem. I've successfully downloaded other files from Adobe like Flash and Reader X installer (which also downloaded and installed fine). The downloads I've done from other sites, like Malwarebytes, all downloaded and updated fine.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I'm assuming it has a tie-in with my Windows/Microsoft Update problem. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bill, thanks for the reply. That page is actually what I was referring to by being unable to get updates from the site. I tried it again, following your link (just in case), and the problem still occurs. I'm looking at it right now and typing as I go (so things are being typed in as I see them), 88% of 1 file, dl rate of ~900KB/sec before that 88% and dropped to ~150KB/sec for maybe 30sec. It swiftly dropped further and is now 90% and "downloading" at 72.8KB/sec. I say downloading but it's actually just idling itself, as it did when it hit 88%. About 2-3min later, it is still at 90% and is stuck at 59.0KB/sec dl rate.
If this is similar to the others, it will eventually stall itself indefinitely. In the case of the previously mentioned attempts, several hours go by with no progress. The Windows/Microsoft Update problem, I left it running for about 6hrs with no progress at all.
Any advice on what to do would be much appreciated.

Try downloading the offline installer from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-acrobat-xi-pro-standard-reader-direct-download-links.html
Make sure you follow the Very Important Instructions on that page.

  • Must reinstall Acrobat Pro 9 - downloadable? how?

I run Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 on a Mac with OS 10. When auto updates arrive, my attempts to install them are denied; a pop-up message says that the contents of the original software will not permit the update, and reinstallation is necessary. I have the serial number; is it possible to use it to obtain a download for reinstalling? If so, how? Thanks.

if you follow all 7 steps (especially steps 1,2 and 3), you can download here: http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem (error message, unavailable page or you are offered a current adobe version), you did NOT follow the directions.
the most common problem is failing to meticulously follow directions 1,2 and/or 3 which are needed to add an adobe.com cookie to your computer that allows you to download directly without using the akamai download manager.
again, follow the directions and you'll have no problem.

  • Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro updates for 11.0.10 being pushed out through SolarWinds Patch Manager are not being recognized as applicable.

I am trying to update our Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro to 11.0.10 using the default MSP packages with SolarWinds Patch Manager.  All of the systems keep reporting as 'NOT APPLICABLE'.  All of the workstations have Reader11.0.09, with about 10% still on 11.0.08 (due to the fact that the reader 11.0.09 package only patched about 2/3 of the systems).  All systems that have Acrobat Pro are 11.0.09.
In SolarWinds I am using the "Adobe Systems, Inc. Packages" node.
    Adobe Systems Acrobat 11 Catalog
    Adobe Systems Reader 11 Catalog
and the SW Patch Manager downloads the msp's straight from Adobe.
I have checked the msp's manually and they will update at least back to 11.0.07 in Reader, and 11.0.0 in Acrobat Pro. (I had an old stand alone system that still had Reader 11.0.07, and I did a new install of Pro and went straight to update 11.0.10)
The SolarWinds Tech said, "Okay. That content is produced by Adobe. Any questions concerning applicability logic or diagnosing why a package reports as NotApplicable when that's not expected would need to be directed to Adobe, as they are solely responsible for that content and its behavior".
I am new to SolarWinds Patch Manager, and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you are attempting to use the SCUP catalogs outside of the MS solution.  I can almost guarantee you that Adobe didn't test it if it's not referenced in the ETK:  11   SCCM-SCUP — Enterprise Administration Guide
That being said there "should" be logging available in any deployment solution.   Since I am not familiar with Solar-Winds particular solution I can't say if it logs errors and how verbose those logs might be.    If you have logs then post the output and the forum members "might" be able to assist you.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.2 problem printing to from IE8

I have been having a pretty consistant problem since doing a clean install of Win7 Pro and Acrobat Pro 9.2.  If I print preview a webpage and then try to print from it to a .PDF, the screen comes up asking where to file the printout and just hangs.  I can't do anything in the windows explorer window that opens to pick a place to save the file.  I can't cancel it.  The only way to get back it to force it shut down IE8.
Anyone else experiencing this and have you found a solution?
I have also had a few site where a link opens a .PDF and the same thing happens if you try to save the .PDF that you are viewing.
    Thanks,

Try Running Disk Utilites and Repair Permissions.
Use a Utility such as Cocktail, or Oynx to remove Font cache files.
Run Font Book and Resolve Font Conflicts (more than one copy of the Same Font).
Also while in Font Book select all you fonts  (Command/apple-A) click on a Font, then choose Validate Fonts.
Try these and come back with results. Someone else  May be able to come along and suggest something else to look at.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.4 Problems

I am having several problems with my Acrobat Pro. When I am adding pages to a document, (dragging and dropping from explorer) the pages pane is hiding pages where I can't get to them. If I have 11 pages, and the page pane set to see two pages at a time, the 11 page will be just barely peaking out at the bottom but the scroll bar won't go down any further. I can't place pages at the end of the document cause I can't see the last page.
Also, it keeps adding multiple drawings backwards....... if you grab documents 1 - 5 in explorer, drag and drop them into acrobat, acrobat drops them 5-1.....
It didn't use to do this. It has been doing it for a couple of months. I am on a fresh install of the whole computer so it is not corrupted software. It has to be in one of the last updates. There has to be a way to fix this.
    Thanks

Any idea about the backwards thing?

  • Acrobat Pro Updates

Windows XP Pro, CS3, Acrobat Pro 8.1
Recently I had to reinstall CS3. My CS3 disk came with Acrobat Pro 8.0 which was reinstalled with the rest of CS3. I would like to update to current version of  Acrobat Pro (10.something) however when updating from Adobe site I get message that patch is not present. Am I entitled to the current version? . If so, what part of updating process that I am missing and how do I get it? I was able to get from 8 to 8.1 but could get no farther. Any thoughts out there?

THe current version of AA8 is 8.3.1. That is as far as you can go. You should be able to do updates from the help menu. If not you can go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows to get the updates for manual installation. Generally (unless said otherwise) you have to download all of the updates and install them in order (you can not generally skip one since they are not cummulative). You can not update to AA X, that is an upgrade and requires something on the order of $199.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 Installation Problem

I've had Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 running fine for several years on XP Pro.  Our company rolled out upgraded hardware with a new image about a year ago, and I cannot successfully install 8 on any of the units.  Most recent issue, using CD, install went up to accepting end user license. I accepted and then installation froze and I had to End Program.  When I try to launch now, Getting Started splash screen comes up then program freezes and terminates.  It seems like a permissions/security issue, can anybody assist?

I assume the new system is Win7 and most likely a 64-bit system. If so, you may just have to upgrade to AA XI. Folks have gotten AA8 to work on a Win7 32-bit system. You might be successful if you download the updates for AA8 and install those. I think it took at least AA8.1 to work with a 64-bit XP.

Thanks so much for your response.  I actually tried this first and had the same results.  Since I posted this, I was able to find a solution.  There is a problem with IE9.  After downloading Google Chrome and following the download instructions, everything worked fine.  Hope this helps others.
