Acrobat 9 Standard - Selecting a portion of an image

I have opened a pdf file and I am trying to select a portion of an image for copying it into a Word file.  I have clicked on the Select Tool, but, when I move the Select Tool on the image, it never changes to a cross and I cannot select the portion in which I am interested.  Could somebody help?
Many thanks

Thanks for your reply.
The problem actually is that the file is protected.

  • Selecting a portion of an image

    Hello
    I am having an image displayed in the front panel. Now i want to select a portion of the image such that when i select that particular portion in the front panel , the result is displayed. Is this possible?
    AT present what i have done is, i take a subset from the image 2D array. But here i always have to enter the index and length by trial and error to locate the exact position. Is there a possibility to automatically detect the index and length when i select that portion in the original image???
    Thankyou

  • Where is the tool to select a portion of an image to crop?

    I am new to PS cc 2014.  Where is the tool to select a potion of an image to crop?

    You'll find the Crop Tool on the Toolbar.  It might be behind the Slice or Perspective Crop tool.

  • Re-size selection after moving to another image

    I did this quite often when I had CS5, but did not try this until a few days ago with CS6. It seems after I selected a portion of one image and moved it to another that the selection would become square and allow me to fine tune its size to fit the new image(in CS5). This does not hpaaen in CS6. Have I forgotten a step or is it different in CS6?
    Thanks
    Paul

    I think you forgot the the steps you used.  A non square Aspect Ratios selection should not change to a square one because of a move. However to selection will be resampled if the two documents have different resolution.  You can tweak the size by using free transform on the new layer. However you should constrain the transform to maintain the layers aspect ratio otherwise the contents of the layer will distort.

  • Selecting GeoRaster portions using SQL

    Hi,
    I am interested in selecting a portion of an image stored in the GeoRaster format inside Oracle. After looking at the documentation, I can see there is something useful in the oracle.spatial.georaster.image.GeoRasterImage - in particular the method:
    public RenderedImage getRasterImage(int pyramidLevel,JGeometry window)
    However looking at the supplied code sample in the API:
    //reading a GeoRaster object from database based on a query
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery("SELECT a.georaster FROM georaster_table a where a.georaster.rasterdatatable='RDT' and a.georaster.rasterid=1");
    STRUCT geor = (oracle.sql.STRUCT) rs.getObject(1);
    //construct a JGeoRaster object
    JGeoRaster geoRaster = new JGeoRaster(geor);
    //get GeoRasterImage instance
    GeoRasterImage geoRasterImage=geoRaster.getGeoRasterImageObject();
    //fetch a subset of GeoRaster object as a Java image
    RenderedImage image=geoRasterImage.getRasterImage(0,0,0,100,100);
    it can be seen that the code to get the resultset uses the unique raster ID to get the initial object, then later in the code the sub-image is retrieved using the pyramid level and coordinates desired.
    But my question is this: getting the ResultSet in this manner requires the rasterid to be known ahead of time, which negates the whole reason/ability to select a sub-image based on coordinates/bounding box.
    How do I do a SELECT statement using a bounding box and pyramid level?
    Hopefully that makes sense
    Thanks
    MH

    Thanks, that advice has gone a long way. This worked well, and I managed to retrieve a blob for the bounding box I provided, and know that there is data there (I wrote the binary directly to disk and it had an appropriate file size).
    Now I'm trying to write the blob to a proper image file using this code:
    ImageInputStream blobStream = ImageIO.createImageInputStream(img_blob.getBinaryStream());
    BufferedImage img = ImageIO.read(blobStream);
    String fileName = "image_chip_00.tif";
    FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(fileName);
    TIFFEncodeParam encodeParam = new TIFFEncodeParam();
    encodeParam.setCompression(TIFFEncodeParam.COMPRESSION_NONE);
    ImageEncoder encoder = ImageCodec.createImageEncoder("TIFF", out, encodeParam);
    encoder.encode(img);
    Unfortunately it comes back with a NullPointerException for the last line of code, i.e. the "img" object is null. For some reason it has not been filled with the blob data (Note that I know the blob is being retrieved and contains data). This blob originates from a stored procedure I wrote using the getRasterSubset mentioned earlier.
    Any ideas why the code may not be working?
    On a similar but different approach, does the SDO_GEOR.subset function have a Java API equivalent? For this function, is the "inGeoraster IN SDO_GEORASTER" listed in the spec simply a georaster column name? It sounds like SDO_GEOR.subset is very similar to SDO_GEOR.getRasterSubset except that it returns a georaster object instead of a blob (with no metadata), respectively.
    Thanks,
    MH

    I am on a Windows 7 OS attempting to reduce pdf size with my Adobe Acrobat Standard XI & Pro.  The application keeps timing out and  at the Subsetting embedded fonts portion and the application gives "Adobe Acrobat has stopped working" and then closes.  The document is 275 pages.  Is there something I can do to stop this?

    Hi Ricci,
    Since when are you facing this issue? Did you tried system restore to a date before this problem occured.

  • How do I customize Adobe Acrobat Standard DC or Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to do what I'd like?  Actually this a multiple-question inquiry.

    Note, I was unable to find a "How TO", Tutorial, or FAQ relevant to the following questions.
    For instance, how do I easily append to an existing PDF with minimum clicks (which I could do with an earlier version of Acrobat Standard)?
    I'm using a 30-day trial of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to scan documents and in certain situations, append to existing PDFs.
    I'd prefer to trial the Adobe Acrobat Standard vs. Pro DC because that's what I intend to purchase.  I'd prefer to not get accustomed to Pro if Standard is very different.
    1.  After selecting Edit > Preferences and specifying certain defaults, most take effect as suspected but some do not, like the one's I'm going to elaborate on below.  Why?
    2. Alternatively, is there a Tool or a way to create a local customized Profile and default to that Profile to avoid having to repeat the following steps?
       This should not be confused with the online Profile (or Communities Profile) whereby one states one's Name etc.
    File
    > Create
       > PDF from scanner
         > Custom scan
           > Color Mode: Black and White
           > Append to existing file
             > Browse
               > Select file
                 > Scan
    This is a cumbersome task to repeat each time I'm ready to scan.  Using an earlier version of Acrobat Standard, I'd simply double-click the PDF I wished to append to,
    Acrobat would default to the appropriate scanner, and know that I wished to append to an existing file without me having to select that option.  Presently it doesn't appear to be that easy/simple.
    Perhaps it is (or can be with guidance).  Please assist.

    3c Custom Scan Input, where I changed Color Mode from AutoDetect to Black and White and why I must also tell Acrobat to append AND to browse to a pre-defined default location?
    4. Must I be "Logged in" to use the product?  The first time launching it, I was prompted to login using the credentials used to create the account and download the product.  Now when using the product it appears to be automatically "Logged in" or online.  I would prefer to use it in an "offline mode" if there is such a thing.
    5. Once the product is purchased, what are my support options?  Can questions be answered or issues resolved with a phone call or are they limited to the Acrobat Forum(s) and/or Adobe Communities?  Even after clicking "Ready to contact us?  Start here." I'm only given the Forum option (over and over) vs. Chat vs. Email Support etc.
    If I've posted these inquiries to the wrong Forum or Discussion, if prudent, please collectively relocate them.  Regardless, please advise.  Thanks!

  • I can't select a portion of a scanned page

    I often have documents scanned into PDF format at two different copy shops. Sometimes I want to use the Acrobat 8 or Adobe Reader 7 selection tool to select a portion of a scanned page and then edit that selection in Photoshop.
    When I open scan from one of the shops (which uses Acrobat 4 for scannng) and choose the selection tool, the cursor turns into a crosshair and I am able to then marquee-select a portion of the scanned image, copy the selection and then edit the selected image in Photoshop.
    When I open a scanned image from the other copy shop (which uses Acrobat 7 for scanning) and choose the selection tool, the cursor remains an arrowhead and I cannot select any portion of the scanned image.
    Can you please tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks

    You can only edit an entire graphic, not parts. In addition, you can not do the edit in Reader. In both of the cases you describe, you should be able to select the image to edit. The process you are using sounds like a graphic copy (at the screen resolution) which is far from an optimal process for getting the graphics. You can save all graphics to the hard drive and edit those, retaining all of the resolution of the original.
    In terms of the two cases, it sounds like the second shop may have set security to not allow copying of the graphic screen.

  • Acrobat Standard 9.4.5 Printing Issues

    Hi Forum People,
    I am having an issue with Acrobat Standard 9.4.5 on a Server 2003 Terminal Server.
    When users try to print PDF files they first get the following error:
    The Document Could Not be Printer
    Next they get:
    No Pages Were Selected
    I have checked some web articles and the sguuestions were to apply the latest updates or to print the files as an image.
    I already have the latest updates and the print as an image did not work
    Can anyone make any other suggestions?
    Thank you.

  • The Find function (Ctrl+F), mis-finds the desired simple text in Acrobat Standard, but works fine in Reader

    Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.13, Win 7 64bit,
    The Find function (Ctrl+F), mis-finds the desired simple text.
    This is not a scanned document.  When I search for some word that DOES exist in the document, Acrobat will highlight text that does not match at all and which does NOT contain the word.  If I select the actual word, copy and past the text, I get the selected text accurately, but when I paste the same selected text into the Find box to search for it, Acrobat still mis-finds.
    HOWEVER, I can open the very same .PDF file in Acrobat Reader X and do not have the same problem - Find works correctly in Reader with the same .PDF.
    What is going on?!  Both Acrobat standard, and Reader report that they are up to date.   Please help.

    Can you try rasterizing (converting the document to tiff/bmp) and then importing those image files (tiff/bmp) back in Acrobat.
    This would allow document to be re-OCRed and you will be able to search text in it. You can use lossless export/import settings to preserve the quality of ducment.
    For exporting the file:
    1: Go to File > Save As Other > Image > Tiff.
    2: Click on Settings button in the Save As Dialog and set the file settings as ZIP for Monochrome, Grayscale and Color.
    Now for importing the files back:
    1: Press Ctrl + K
    2: In the Preferences dialog, select Convert To PDF option in Categories.
    3: Choose tiff or bmp (as per the format used while exporting) and un-check Scan Optimization and OCR.
    4: Set Color and Grayscale to Zip and Monochrome to CCITT G4.
    5: Save the settings.
    6: Now import all the pages in Acrobat.
    7: You can use Combine Files feature to merge all the image files.

  • Using applet to select a part of an image and then save it

    Hi ,
    I want to use applet to select a part of an image and then save that particular selected part to a server. can anyone provide me a code for this. I have found codes on the sun site which help in uploading an image but I am having trouble in trying to select a part of the image.

    Sorry to get back to you so late, but I was away from my computer this afternoon.
    I'm not sure just what you are after. I do see that you have positioned the tree on the labels. I went to the web site for the label company, and their instructions are not too helplful.

    I changed the white portion of 1 label to black - - this can be any color. To do this use the magic wand tool, tolerance=10 worked for me, then go to Edit>fill selection.

  • Group Policy Deployment Acrobat Standard XI Version 11

    I was able to successfully create a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Group Policy that would be able to distribute the Adobe Reader Application using the Adobe Customization Wizard XI. I tried to use the same procedure from the Adobe Acrobat Standard 11 download from the adobe licensing site and was unable to get the Group Policy to work. The error message that I am getting is...
    The install of application Adobe Acrobat XI Standard 11.0 from policy  Deploy Adobe Acrobat 11 failed. The error was : %%1603
    This is the procedure that I created for deployment of Adobe Acrobat XI using Group Policy.
    How to create a group policy deployment of Adobe Acrobat XI
    Overview:
    This procedure covers the steps needed to create a group policy that will deploy the Adobe Acrobat installation.
    Requirements
    •    Windows 2008 Group Policy
    •    Adobe Acrobat Customization Wizard
         o    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.00/misc/CustWiz11000_en_US.exe

    h.    Customize the AcroStan.MSI installation file
    i.    Default viewer of PDF files: Make Acrobat the Default PDF Viewer
    ii.    Remove previous versions of Acrobat
    iii.    Run Installation: Silently
    iv.    If reboot is required at the end of installation: Suppress reboot
    i.    Shortcuts: Remove the desktop Shortcut
    j.    Online and Adobe Services: Disable Product Improvement Program: checked.
    k.   Generate Transform File
    i.    Click Transform > Generate Transform File
    ii.   Create an Setup.Ini file in the folder of the Distribution Package.
    iii.  Name the Transform File something useful like “CompanyConfigs”.

    vi.   Optional: Click the Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management.
    Note: This setting can be used to uninstall the application if the group policy ever changes in that the application should be removed.
    vii.    The package is now created …
    4.    Test the Client in a Virtual Machine
    a.    Go to a windows client and run “gpupdate /force”.
    b.    The system will then respond that it needs to restart the computer.
    c.    Type Yes, and allow the computer to reboot.
    d.    If Group Policy is not setup to allow for verbose messages in Windows 7 then the user will just see “Please wait…”, if verbose message is enabled the user will see “Installing Adobe Acrobat…”.
    Can someone please tell me what I am missing to get the group policy deployed? It has the same permissions as the Adobe Reader folder and I have done everything exactly the same, except that Adobe Standard has the license number, and owner information included in the Transform file (.mst).
    Thank you.

    Your case isn't unique. We've heard this a lot. While Acrobat has a small, very small percentage of settings available in the ADMX files,
    in case you don't know, PolicyPak software has a solution to manipulate, basically, near 100% of the settings in Acrobat Reader and Professional.
    You're welcome to check out how it works. These videos are for Acrobat X, but there is also tempaltes in the download for XI.
    Here are links to the pages with full how-to videos:
    http://www.policypak.com/products/manage-acrobat-reader-with-group-policy.html
    and
    http://www.policypak.com/products/manage-acrobat-x-pro-and-acrobat-x-standard-using-group- policy.html
    You can be up and running in 20 minutes, but note, it's NOT a template.. PolicyPak is full application management and lockdown system.

  • Acrobat Standard 6.0 Set as Default Viewer, but Browser is looking for Adobe Reader 8 or 9

    All,
    I use Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 for viewing and creating PDF's.  Just a couple of days ago, I tried opening a patent document I found on Google.  The browser displayed the following error:
    "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
    So I looked for an update for Adobe Reader and downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
    The next PDF document that I opened came up in Adobe Reader....NOT Adobe Acrobat.  The installation must have changed the default viewer.  So I right-clicked on the PDF file icon and selected OPEN WITH Adobe Acrobat.  I clicked the checkbox to "Always open with this program..."  This seems to have fixed the default viewer problem, as PDF files now open with Adobe Acrobat Standard...just the way I want things to work.
    I still have the problem of not being able to open many documents within a browser...I think because the browser is looking to open the PDF files in Adobe Reader 9.1.2, NOT Acrobat 6.0.  But Adobe Acrobat is now the default viewer.
    Does Acrobat function independently of Reader?  Or is Reader a module that is required for Acrobat to function properly?  Whatever the case may be, can somebody suggest a fix for this problem?
    Thanks,
    Neal
    [email address deleted by host]

    They do not require each other for running as mentioned. There are some modules in common and that is where you run into problems. There are issues with the parts that remain resident also. I would suggest you follow the other advice you have been given. Unfortunately, there are some PDFs that may not open correctly in AA6. You may have run into some of those.
