Acrobat addin for word

Hi everyone,
After installation, Acrobat installs an Acrobat tab within Word 2007 and up. If I click on that tab, I can choose the mail merge button which merges the open document to pdf files and sends by email. There's a preferences button on the Acrobat tab that allows me to set security/password for the pdf but when I create the mail merge and the pdfs are created, there is no security in the files.
I'm not sure whether I should be asking this question in a Word forum or here but if anyone has any answers, I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance

I believe that the mail merge feature actually uses the Adobe PDF Printer. Have you tried setting the security in the Properties for the Adobe PDF Printer?

  • Acrobat pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 crashes when processing large files

I am trying to use the pdfmaker com addin for word 2010 to create a PDF document. Whenever I try and create the document, the acrobat addin crashes word.
I attempted to perform this on both an x86 and x64 machine and it failed both times at around the approximately same point (during/immediately after determining the bookmarks).
The document is large (862 pages, 2425 bookmarks, 311 300dpi graphics, for a total file size of 49.2MiB)
I can generate the PDF by just printing, but the whole point of using the pdfmaker is so that we don't have to perform 2.5K of manual cross-links.

I recently ran into this with a bitmap in a 265 page document. I copied the bitmap to IrfanView and then back (I think that was the step -- I am already forgetting) and the copied it back. The problem went away. My student may look a bit more at the file -- I asked so I could give a more definitive comment here.
The result I had suggests that it is a problem in WORD or the bitmap that WORD was using. Why WORD can deal with it and not Acrobat, I am not sure. However, when printing to the Adobe PDF printer there was not a problem, just with PDF Maker.

  • Deploying an Acrobat addin for Acrobat 7 and 8

    Hi,
Is there an elegant / standard way of deploying a custom addin for use with either Acrobat 7 or 8. Technically, the addin we have written will work for both versions of Acrobat.
As I understand it, we just need to deploy to the correct add-in folder depending on the version of Acrobat installed. We are looking to install the addin via and MSI and Marimba.
Is there an environment variable for the addin path. We would like to avoid deploying to both paths, or having multiple packages (one for each adobe version).
    Thanks.

For Acrobat 6.0+ you can use:
    [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\X.0\InstallPath]
    (Default)="C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat X.0\Acrobat"
Replace X with the major version you are looking for. There may be multiple versions listed (my system has 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 because I have had, at some point, each of those versions installed) but the InstallPath key will only exist for the currently installed version.

  • Acrobat Tab in Word Custom UI

In Microsoft Word (2010 & 2013), I have custom ribbon implemented, but the Acrobat tab does not display when the customization is implemented.  Can I get the XML namespace and idQ of the Acrobat tab so I can make it visible?
I use the startFromScratch="true" element to allow customization that would otherwise not be possible. In this mode, I have to add XML code to display each ribbon tab.
Edit: This subject is also discussed under http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/4ceec588-0090-4093-9a97-1fa413f6928f/ addin-ribbon-control-possible?forum=worddev
Using the namespace and idQ from the Word.officeUI file (xmlns:x1="PDFMaker.OfficeAddin" and idQ="x1:tab1), I cannot get the "ACROBAT" tab to show.

Did you do the updates to AA XI? OFFICE 2013 came out after AA XI and as I understand it you have to do the updates to get Acrobat to work with OFFICE 2013. It is also possible you have to enable the Acrobat plugin for WORD.

Where is the Acrobat tab in Word 2013?  I checked the Add-in category and it's not disabled.  How do I get it back?  I am using Acrobat XI Pro.

  • Acrobat PDFMaker addin in Word 2003

After Upgrading from Acrobat 8 to 9, the addin in Word 2003 is missing and word did not start properly until it automatically removing whatever was left of the former addin. I am trying the manual installation but I cannot find the ".dot" file needed, only the .dll for Word2007 is available but for that it was automatically installed without problems. I work with Win XP64. I have upgraded acrobat 8 to 9 because the pdf printer was not working after some time. I've been told the same was observed with acrobat 7, but reinstallation of the acrobat was much faster in that earlier version. I read and download pdfs with a suite of internet browsers everyday and I have had many problems, such as missing fonts, incomplete downloads, freezing of the browsers, reinstalling web browsers several times, shutting down frozen adobe processes, etc.
    Thanks for your support.

    Hi,
maybe you want to delete both programs!
Restart, check that everything is clean.
And reinstall first word then Acrobat!

  • Cannot enable acrobat 8.1.3 addin in Word 2007

    Hi,
I cannot enable acrobat 8.1.3 addin in Word 2007.  In Word 2007 I go to the top left circle, word options, Add-Ins, Disabled Application Add-ins,  Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin, and then "Go".
I then see Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin is unchecked.  When I check it, it notes that "This add-in is installed for all users on this computer, and can only be connected or disconnected by an administrator".  See attached jpg for details.  Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Joe

As the instructions indicate, log in as the administrator and activate the option. If you do not have access to the administrator account, then ask your IT folks to do it for you.

  • Acrobat 9 PDFMAKER for Word - Relative Hyperlink problem

In the past I have successfully use Acrobat Standard 6 PDFMAKER with Word 2003 to preate PDF files with relative hyperlinks. I have a large massively hyperlinked PDF document collection which I distribute on DVD and hence need relative hyperlinks because people's DVD drives have different drive letters. The PDF links produced by Acrobat 6 PDFMAKER have only a single "F" entry in the CosDict and that entry is the desired relative path. The PDF files I make are PDF 1.4. These work with Adobe reader.
Acrobat 9's PDFMAKER for Word 2007 appears to be unable to produce PDF 1.4 files with relative hyperlinks that work in Adobe Reader. I get PDF files with Annot entries containing a correct "F" entry with a relative path, BUT there is also a UF entry with an absolute path. I have reported this as a bug because it appears to me that the PDF spec says the UF field is a PDF 1.7 feature. I'm speculating that the presence of this undesired absolute path in the UF field of the Annot object is why Adobe Reader (and Foxit Reader) won't follow the hyperlinks as relative paths. Foxit complains about not finding the absolute path.
Is there a way to coerce Acrobat 9's PDFMAKER to produce truly relative hyperlinks from Word 2007? Am I wrong is diagnosing the problem? I am using Acrobat 9.4.2. Is there a newer version that has fix this problem?
Any suggestions for how to produce PDF files with functional relative hyperlinks from Word 2007 would be appreciated. Since my document collection is very large (1000,'s of files in a directory tree) I'd like to be able to automate this. I have successfully written VB script code to automate running PDFMAKER but the relative vs absolute hyperlink problem persists whether I make the files one at a time from Word or in a batch from VB.

I don't believe Word 2000 is supported by Acrobat 9

  • Acrobat Std/Pro 8 addin for Outlook causing causing corruption of email graphics & pollution of Outl

Our IT Support team, in conjunction with Microsoft Premier Support, has been investigating reports of email messages not correctly displaying graphics. Microsoft Premier Support has identified the Adobe PDFmaker addin for Microsoft Outlook as the cause.
When active, the Adobe PDFmaker addin stops Outlook from clearing it's temporary working folder, resulting in this folder becoming 'pollulted' over time, and ultimately affecting the ability of Outlook to use the temporary working folder for caching graphics received in emails.
Please follow the below steps to replicate the issue.
(Note: our testing has been performed with Adobe Acrobat Standard / Professional version 8.1.2 and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 SP2 and SP3 running from Windows XP SP2)
    Steps to replicate
    ==================
    1. Ensure Adobe Acrobat Standard or Professional is installed to the machine
    2. Ensure Microsoft Outlook is closed
    3. Identify the location of your Outlook temporary working folder. This information can be obtained from the registry key: HKEY_CURENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder
    4. Using Explorer, delete the contents of the Outlook temporary working folder (eg. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK91)
    5. Once the Outlook temporary working folder is empty, open Microsoft Outlook, and open an email message containing graphics
    6. Observe that the Outlook temporary working folder now contains the supporting JPG images that are loaded by the email :
    7. Close Microsoft Outlook
    8. Wait for 30 seconds, and re-open Microsoft Outlook
    9. Re-open the same email message containing embedded graphic images, confirm that the graphics are correctly displayed.
    10. Close the email, then close Microsoft Outlook
    11. Observe that the Outlook temporary working folder now contains a second copy of the supporting JPG images that are loaded by the email
This is a bug. The expected behaviour of Microsoft Outlook would be that the above files should be automatically deleted from the Outlook temporary folder when the email is closed.
With continued use the Outlook temporary folder will continue to grow as the user opens & closes emails with embedded graphics, as the files in this folder are not being automatically deleted when no longer accessed by Microsoft Outlook. Eventually this will affect the performance of Outlook and ultimately result in the graphic images not being displayed in any email messages.
    The Workaround
    ==============
Microsoft have recommended the below registry entry be modified in order to rectify this issue:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\PDFMOutlook.PDFMOutlook\LoadBe havior
The value of the LoadBehavior key needs to be changed from "3" to "2" to disable the Adobe PDFMaker addin from Microsoft Outlook.
We have tested Microsoft's recommendation and confirmed that it resolves the above symptoms.

    William,
Thanks for the report. May I ask that you file a bug report so that
Adobe will be officially aware of the issue and fix. Maybe it will be
fixed or the solution posted in the knowledgebase.

If you have Acrobat Pro Extended that is a PC Product. You've clicked on wrong Forum. Go back to main page the click on Acrobat and choose PC forum. Extend has such features as XML based PDF Forms which Acrobat Pro Mac can't handle.

I have adobe acrobat pro for windows and it is freezing up when I try to convert a word file to pdf... I have tried to get this done six ways from Sunday but it is just not working... help!  Chris.

It would be helpful to know what version of Acrobat, WORD, and operating system.
Without that info, I would suggest at this point to open your WORD file and then go to the print menu and print to file using the Adobe PDF printer. Open the created file in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, check to see if AcroTray is running in the background.
You say you tried many ways. It would help to know what you tried and what worked or did not work, and at what point the failure occurs.

  • Did Adobe Acrobat/reader stop providing browser integrated PDF viewing(addin) for Internet Explorer?

Did Adobe acrobat and reader stop providing browser integrated PDF viewing capability for Internet Explorer?
Hi, I have been trying to view PDF's directly on my browser (Internet Explorer 9). We used to be able to have this available. To be honest last configuration that did work was Internet Explorer 8 with Adobe Acrobat 7. But I recently tried with Intenet Explorer 9 with Adobe Acrobat X and did not work as expected (I tried to activate the add in for Adobe but the adobe addin for PDF did not show up) I have the following questions:
    1) Do you still provide PDF's viewing capabilties on Internet Explorer?
    2) If yes: Is there a propper Add-in we (users) are able to install for Internet Explorer?
    3) if yes: Do we require to have Adobe Acrobat to have this capability? (this was my experience with IE8 and Adobe Acrobat 7)
    Additional Info:
There seems to be an addin for Chrome wich works as expected (opens PDF in browser) to this current date. This does not happen on IE.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you using the 64-bit edition of Internet Explorer?
The Adobe Reader/Acrobat plugin is 32-bit, and will not work on a 64-bit browser.

  • Acrobat Toolbar in Word 2008?

I have Acrobat 8 Professional and Office 2008 installed. I want to convert a Word document to PDF format *with bookmarks*. I'm a recent switcher from Windows, and on Windows I had an Acrobat toolbar in Word that did this with a single mouse click. All Word headings were converted to nested bookmarks in the resulting PDF. Now that I'm on a Mac, all I can do is create a PDF without any bookmarks. I can't figure out how to get the bookmarks in there automatically.
I gather that Acrobat is supposed to add some kind of toolbar to Word (and Excel and PowerPoint), but I can't find it, and I can't figure out how to enable it. Can anyone tell me how to get access to the Acrobat toolbar in Word, and save me 20+ minutes manually adding bookmarks to the PDF?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I am disappointed to learn that automatic bookmark creation wasn't ever available on the Mac. Who knew that there are actually disadvantages of the Mac vs. Windows? :-)
Are there any other ways (third-party apps, for example), to automatically create bookmarks from heading styles in a Word document?
    Cheers!
