Acrobat Bookmarks Display Improperly in Mavericks

After installing OS X Mavericks, the bookmarks in my Adobe Acrobat documents began displaying with enormous distances between each bookmark, and with strange pixellated symbols next to master bookmarks. Does anyone else have this problem?

Well I am also very frustrated by this issue. I too am trying to find a work around. I encounterd this after installing Maverick. I create multiple page publications in Indesign and need to generate interactive PDFs with bookmarks from heading styles. I thought this was a Indesign glitch then found that Acrobat creates the same bookmark features - within Acrobat itself (see below). I then opened the PDF in reader v9 on Windows XP on my Mac and it renders perfectly (see below).

I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro (9.5.5) on a Mac (10.9.4) and the bookmarks in all of my PDFs have a glitch that makes them unusable. The content is still there, but there is an inordinate amount of space between each marker. I can work around the glitch by using Reader (10.1.12), but given my current project, this is a serious PITA. Any help would would be greatly appreciated.

This looks like a redraw error due to the graphics card not being fast enough. I get this on a second monitor on my Mac Mini (late 2010) from time to time but it corrects itself after a few seconds and deos not affect the project or stop me from being able to edit.
Is your exmple from a second monitor by any chance?

Is there a list of Unicode characters that can be used in Acrobat bookmarks?

I can add Greek characters to Acrobat bookmarks using hexadecimal strings. For example, to print a lower case gamma symbol I use <FEFF03B3>. FEFF is the required Unicode flag and 03B3 is the Unicode code for gamma. This works fine. However, there are no Unicode entries for greek characters in the PDF 32000-1:2008 PDF Specification manual. Table D.2 - PDFDocEncoding Character Set on page 656 lists Unicode characters and these also work when added to bookmarks but no Greek codes are in this table. Since I can sucessfully use Greek Unicode characters in the range of 0x0391 - 0x03CE and these characters are not listed in the PDF manual I am assuming there are additional Unicode character that will work in bookmarks. Therefore, I am looking for a complete list of Unicode characters that can be used in Acrobat's bookmarks. Does such a list exist?

I'm sorry to hear there is no list available. I'm building the Acrobat bookmarks automatically. The input data contains entity codings (for example, a lower case Greek gamma is coded as γ) and I was hoping to be able to just pass these through with an automatic conversion to a hexadecimal string (for example <FEFF03B3>). If I had a list of valid Unicode characters, that will display in an Acrobat bookmark, I could validate each entity before the conversion and catch the ones that won't display correctly. I know these types of characters are out there because I have already come across them. For example, a superscript 5 (0x2075) displays fine in MSWord but shows as a white box in a bookmark. Now I'll need to proof the output PDFs and look for white boxes in the bookmarks so that I can build my list of unicode characters that do not work in Acrobat bookmarks.

but after the new installation with this folder is completely empty and I am still
unable to open these pdf.

Even clicking on a link to a PDF file from a "pinned" site (which, according to Microsoft, isn't supposed to be able to run with add-ons) causes the PDF file to open in the browser.
I'm using IE10 on Windows 8 Pro x64. I remember reading that Microsoft integrated Adobe Flash into IE10...I think they did the same with Adobe Reader. I just found out that pinned sites in IE10 can be used to view Flash videos, so it would seem that I am correct. Does anyone else agree with me?

Hi Pusman,
While setting up the links, if you choose to open the file in a new window then you won't face this issue, then you can simply switch to the previous file and bookmark view will remain as it is.

Display problem with Mavericks

I just upgraded to Mavericks and now my iMac's display is flat. It seems the 'blue' is gone. For instance, my bejeweled 3 triangles are now magenta and not purple. Help!!

It sounds like your color on the computer seems to have lost some blue tint so the colors look a bit off after updating to Mavericks. I recommend these steps from the article named:

You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:

Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.

.ttf font will install but displays improperly

Howdy.
II just downloaded a .ttf which installed all well and good. The problem is I need this font for use in Photoshop, but it displays improperly. The font itself is correct, but looks as though it's bold and over-saturated.
I did some quick troubleshooting and discovered that it works just fine in TextEdit. This problem isn't terribly important as I can just type what I need and then grab > paste it into Photoshop, but for curiosity's sake I'm interested in finding out how the problem can be remedied.

How do I return to the old full screen bookmarks display?

Using Safari 7.0.3 and OS 10.9.2 I find the bookmarks display most unsatisfactory. I don't like the sidebar. I want to return to the full screen display of the folders and names at the bottom so I can rea the whole link title, with the option of scrubing through the site images above, iTunes style.
The current configuration is awkward because I have to click on each bookmark link to see it.

Try "Edit Bookmarks".
Click "Bookmarks" in the Safari menubar and then select " Edit Bookmarks".

[SOLVED]Screen displays improperly

Hello everyone, I've just installed arch according to the wiki's beginner's guide. After installed Xorg(xorg-server, xorg-utils and xorg-xinit) and video driver using pacman I also installed xfce and xfce-goodies package. The problem is that after I "startxfce4" the GUI comes out but display improperly. There is a black bar in the bottom and the whole GUI seems moved up. I don't know how to describe it precisely so I put a image below:

I remembered when I test X using "startx" before install xfce4, there was also a similar black bar over there. So I think the problem is with xorg but I don't know how to fix this. I tried to search but didn't find a solution.
I tried to use
# Xorg :0 -configure
and
nvidia-xconfig
to generate a config file, but either causes the "startxfce4" failed.

Thanks for the reply. It turned out that I installed the wrong driver for my graphic card. After installing the xf86-video-intel driver everything so far works just fine. In the future I might install bumblebee or something else to manage them.

Bookmark display button behaviour

I have the bookmark display button (black box with asterisk) on the rh side of my screen. Until recently when I selected it the bookmarks dropped down below it. Now a side bar appears on the left hand side instead. How do I restore to the original functions? (v19.0.2)

Thanks Philipp. I see now that when the original "button" disappeared I replaced it with the slightly different looking button. However the "original" is not shown as an option when I customise the toolbar. Additionally I note the "original" is supposedly part of the default toolbar, but when I do a restore of the default toolbar it doesn't return. All very odd, and I don't even know how it disappeared in the first place.

Layers in acrobat not displaying layer names correctly in Mavericks...

As you can see, the titles of the layers are being cut off and are barely visible. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem..? I've attached a screen shot. We think it might be a font issue? Any advise would be appreciated!

This seems to be a general bug in Acrobat on Mavericks. It was also reported to happen in the Bookmarks panel.
You should report it to Adobe here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
However, I'm not sure that your version (you selected acrobat_9 as a tag) is supported on Mavericks at all...

Forcing Acrobat to display a PDF with an accuracy of a single pixel

This is a bit strange question, I didn't know where to put it...
I'm developing a program for creating a pdf from a GUI interface sample.
This means that I need to replicate what is in the GUI to the PDF EXACTLY. And when I say that I mean to the pixel.
Windows magnifier tool helps a lot, however, Acrobat (as Reader as well) does not draw everything to a pixel. It's not only due to the Acrobat, but drivers and some screen and display setting as well. That can't be helped. However, if I zoom in enough everything will be shown properly, but the bounds of the original pixels will be distorted...
Is there any way I can zoom in and somehow see where each pixel should be?

You can turn off smoothing in options, but that's about it. If the zoom factor is right AND of course if you make sure not to use lossy compression on the screen shots, then you should see a screen shot pretty much as the original screen.

Acrobat 9 "Display PDF in Browser" on IE7 crashes the browser

Here's what is happening. My company purchased a few licenses for Adobe Acrobat Professional 9, and they were installed on some of the company laptops. These laptops are in a UAC controlled SOE environment, so the employees are restricted to do any updates/installations that requires rights. The Adobe Professional 9 was installed through SCCM advertisement, and the "Display PDF in Browser" option was enabled.We discovered that when we attempt to download any pdf files off the web, the browser would stop responding/hangs during the duration of the downloads (shown at the status bar of IE), and we can only kill off the process.
The current workaround is to disable the "Display PDF in Browser" and download the file directly. However, it came to some points where the pdf documents contains some dynamic links over https on the site is is residing. In which case, the pdf have to be open to view from the secured site for the dynamic link to works.
Previously with Adobe Reader 9, we face no such issue. Only after we installed Acrobat Professional 9, this issue surfaces.
We have tried uninstalling the Reader before installing the Acrobat to prevent any chances of conflicts, problem persisted.
Here are the versions of the software involved.
Adobe Reader v9.3
Adobe Acrobat Professional v9.0.0
Internet Explorer v7.0.6002.18005
I have looked through the forums for similar cases, unless I have missed the keywords, I do not see any similar cases.
Has anyone encountered similar issues? Would appreciate if you could share on what was done to circumvent this. Thank you!

No, this is only seen when Acrobat is install. It is working fine when only Reader is installed.
What is your definition of a dynamic link? Post example.
At the moment, I cannot find a online example for reference. I will try to describe by example.
Let's say if I goes to https://nonexistance_site.com/brochure_ folder/broc_1.pdf, and the "Display PDF in Browser" was already enabled.
The content of the broc_1.pdf contains a hyperlink that points to "../broc_2.html"
Our issue now is the we can only download the pdf file to a folder, say c:/pdfs/broc_1.pdf, so when we tried to access the dynamic link, it will tries to locate c:/pdfs/broc_2.html, which is non-existence. And direct access to https://nonexistance_site.com/brochure_ folder/broc_2.html would not work for some reason (possibily session restriction, or something else).
What are your security settings? (is Enhanced Security enabled?)
This setting is currently disabled in the Acrobat Pro 9 preference. Should this stays as disabled?
This only happens when attempting to "download & display" any pdf files from the net, displaying of local pdf that is already downloaded is fine.
