Acrobat CC - Preflight

Hallo Comunity!

There is no "Acrobat XX".
Preflight is only provided with Acrobat Pro (DC, XI, X, 9, 8, --- ).
Be well...

  • Acrobat 9 Preflight Droplet Missing Overview Info from Results

When I open a PDF with Acrobat 9 and run a preflight on it there is an "Overview" displayed in the results. Within this Overview section there is Pages > Page:1 > Page Information and here I can get page size (i.e. Media Box) information. However, when I create a preflight droplet, using the same profile used above, there is no "Overview" section displayed in the results. Is there a way to capture this Overview information by way of a preflight droplet? Or, if not Overview, can I grab the page size of a document by some other means using a preflight droplet?

  • Insidious bug in Acrobat's preflight...

Just a warning for those who might use it...
I have the most current version of the CS3 suite. I created a PDF file of my journal project, which uses Garamond Premiere Pro as a text font, using the "PressQuality" preset. I'd been having trouble with stray RGB files and overly thin lines, so I applied the Preflight profile "Digital Printing: Color" in Adobe Acrobat. This changes all colors to CMYK and also corrects problems in thin lines, among other problems.
Now, when Preflight is done, it saves the file, and it looks just fine. You can print it, you can view it, all of the characters are there as expected. But surprise! If you close the file and open it again, a bunch of characters in Garamond Premiere Pro no longer display. All small caps are replaced by a box with an "x" through it, and also any three-character ligatures (such as ffi and ffl). But since this doesn't show up until you've closed and opened the document, it managed to get to the printers, who fortunately caught the error before it went to press.
I'm hoping this won't happen in CS4, but in the mean time, don't use those profiles without a thorough check afterwards. Preflight is supposed to reveal problems, not cause them.

Right, which is where my problems were occurring. I looked through the "Digital color" preflight profile, and there are no "fixups" relating to fonts (there are things about fonts that get flagged, but not that should get changed).
I altered the original Press Quality preset in Indesign from "subset fonts below 100%" to "subset fonts below 1%," and made a new PDF. I was able to run the Digital Printing Color Preflight protocol in Acrobat, save it, open it again, and the fonts were okay. So thanks so much for the tip! That may have solved it.

  • Acrobat X preflight

Hi, I have created a preflight droplet but when pdf's are preflighted they increase in size, why would this be? It is every pdf, even ones without fixes. Do later versions of Acrobat have the same problem? I don't mind upgrading but it would only be to solve this problem.
    Thanks,
    B

There are a couple of things to note here.  I am also noting some file bloat, but let's synchronize our facts and process, before we start writing up the bugs.
Generally speaking, when Acrobat Preflight is run using any conversion profile to a standards file type - in this case all Prepress profiles are using a conversion to PDF/X-1a - then there are a couple of SAVE routines that are built into that process.  Unless one completely removes the standards conversion within the profile, the Saves will still be there, even if no other modifications external to the standards conversion, are taking place, AND the file name will be appended to *_X1a.pdf."
What is the PDF/X-1a conversion profile?  It is also a hard-wired bundle of fixups itself, and if it is not removed inside the profile, then these modifications do get applied, the file does change, and it does get resaved.  Another item that gets added to the file when a standards conversion is processed, is that the color profile, which is required as an Output Intent, gets embedded.  This can cause some file bloat, depending on which Output INtent one has chosen.  The fact that the file name completely changes should be one pointer to the fact that we are dealing with a changed/different file than the original.
But let's start from the beginning.....when you say "even if I remove all fixes they still increase...etc".  Could you tell me a little more about how you are removing the fixups from Magazine Ads?  In fact, how are you creating the droplet to begin with?  We can then walk through the process.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Adobe Acrobat XI - Preflight tool - error List of CIDs missing in CIDSet of embedded CID font

    Hello,
I am generating a PDF documents with use of  Apache FOP where fonts are pasted to the document. I am getting an error "List of CIDs missing in CIDSet of embedded CID font"  and I am curious. Since the cid is not found in the provided font how acrobat is able to find the correct character?  I also run analyse which checks if all text in the file use embedded fonts and the result was fine.
    Could you explain this behaviour?
What kind of problems may result from missing the cids?
    Thank you for response.

So it is (how Bill@VT said) problem of generating the result pdf document.   Does a font have to meet some requirements?  Because I can see the characters in a font viewer but after embedding I see the error.
Also I would like to ask for correction and if I get righ how the correct character is found.
    We work with TTF fonts.
    1. For embedded fonts
pdf file contains table  with glyf ID and glyf representation
pdf file contains cmap which maps  Character code (unicode) and glyfID
during rendering a file finding correct glyf is clear since we have character code
    2. CID fonts
pdf file contains table  with glyf ID and glyf representation
pdf file contains CID table wich maps  CID and glyfID ( CIDToGIDMap)
pdf file contains table which maps character code (Identity-H, Unicode) to CID
during rendering we have character code and we get CID
based on CID is looked up character metrics
based on CID is found glyf representation
Is here something what I am missing or I forgot to point out?

  • Acrobat Professional Windows 9.1.3 Crashing in Preflight Droplet

    Hi,
I created a preflight droplet using Acrobat Professional 9.1.3 in Windows XP SP2 and when I run the droplet I'm getting the message "DDEHandler unhandeled exception caught!". This message appears in every scenario I tried:
      - Acrobat running before the file is dropped in the droplet icon
      - Acrobat not running before the file is dropped in the droplet icon
      - Acrobat running before I started the droplet in the command-line
      - Acrobat not running before I started the droplet in the command-line
Eve scenario was tried with a pre-built profile and a custom profile. Nothing works!!!!
If I run the same preflight profile normally in Acrobat (not as droplet), the preflight runs ok, with no error.
    Any clue?
It's a trial Acrobat Pro. I'm planning to buy a license if the preflight works...
I just downloaded Acrobat Pro for Mac and I found a very similar crash (of course, with a different error message but with the same conditions) and there's a thread opened in Acrobat Mac forum since February with no solution from Adobe. I'll look for a competitive solution, it seems Adobe isn't interested in provide a decent solution.
The Acrobat's preflight tool is made by a german company, Callas Software, and this company sells similar preflight products (with additional functions and higher prices). Callas' products work very fine in Mac and in PC.
If you need a scriptable preflight, please forget Adobe Pro 9....
    Best regards,
    Lorenzo

http://forums.adobe.com/message/2907499#2907499 – as you say the same error occurs in OS X. Here is the corresponding mac-thread with a bit more information (applying both to Windows and OS X). Note that despite the error Acrobat DOES perform the preflight, but has to be restarted after.
It is an issue with Acrobat 9, and the possible (not very good) workarounds can be summarised as:
    Use Acrobat 8 instead
Check the box for making a summary PDF
    Do not generate detailed reports
If you are scripting etc. you might also find a way that automates restarting Acrobat after each preflight (yay...) or that closes the summary PDF created after each preflight (if that options is used).
And yeah, I do hope Adobe fixes it as Acrobat does have a whole lot of powerful preflight/fixup tools built in and it's a shame the droplets are broken.

  • Can't create a PDF using "print" from Office 2010 w/ Acrobat 9.5.1 installed

I've been working on a lengthy Word document for the past three days, upgrading most of the inserted images and straightening out the formatting. Converting the entire 180-odd page document every time I made a few updates is a bit time-consuming. I also noticed that when I converted the entire document as a whole, the quality of some (not all) of the images in the document was significantly degraded. So I'd been using the Adobe Acrobat printer selection in Word to create single page pdf files, and then used the documents tab in Acrobat to insert the new page and delete the undesirable page.
This was working fine for two days. Then I was attempting to print a page, and didn't notice the "Creating a PDF Document" window, nor did I see the requested filename in the target folder. I attempted to print the page a second time, but nothing happened. After closing several open pages, I found the "Creating a PDF Document" pop-up. But the progress bar was stuck at about 20% and never moved. Eventually I closed the pop-up and attempted to print again. The pop-up reappeared but stuck at 20%. Rebooted and got the same. I rebooted again and went into Program and Features and ran repair on both Office 2010 and Acrobat. No change.
I'm operating Win 7 (64 bit) w/ SP1 on an AMD E-350 1.60Ghz processor w/ 8GB of ram. I'm using Office Professional Plus 2010 build 14.0.6112.5000 (32 bit). I've included the System Report below. The only trick I have left is to uninstall and reinstall, but hoping for a more specific solution. Any help would be appreciated.

As far as the images are concerned, that may be a result of your choice of job settings. You may want to use the Press or Print option if the image quality is important. I assume you are talking about bit images in this case.
As to the hangup, have you checked to see if AcroTray is active on your system? It may not be running as needed. In the meantime, try checking print to file and then opening that file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF.
Before you ever try a reinstall, you need to do a repair first to see if that resolves the problem. There are a lot of unknowns about your exact process for the printing and your job settings that may be part of the problem. The rest of your system setup is useful in some cases, but did not help me see your problem.

I am getting the same error even in Acrobat version 8.1.3.
Additionally, I noticed that if we click on menu ‘Advanced->Sign&Certify->Preview Document’, then we get a notification as “This document is not PDF/SigQ compliant and may display inconsistently”. On clicking  ‘View report’ on that notification, the below dialog pops up. It has errors listed as:-
Code 4000 : Unrecognized PDF content. The document contains PDF content or custom content not supported by the current version of Acrobat.
Code 4002: PDF content contains erros.
However, if we sign the PDF using default adobe signature functionality and reopen that PDF, the error does NOT come and the notification also says ‘This document is PDF/SigQ compliant’.
Can anybody please suggest what could be missing in the custom sign that we apply? Is it because of any of the missing fonts or any other resources?
    Awaiting reply!
    Regards.

  • Acro Preflight "Destination profile not recommended" ?

But checking Ghent (www.gwg.org) says I am using the recommended profile!
The printing environment is open web on newsprint.
The file was exported out of InDesign as PDF/X-1a (Destination SNAP 2007) and Output Intent SNAP 2007.
Here you will see a chart that says that's the right profie: http://gwg.org/37.277.0.0.1.0.phtml
The full warning message from Acrobat's preflight tool:
"Desntination profile is not recommended for Web Offset (cold set)
The Ghent Workgroup recommends certain ICC profiles for use as a destination profile in the PDF/X output intent when exchanging PDF/X files according to the Ghent specifications. See www.gwg.org."
If I run the fix-up from the Preflight tool it changes the output intent to ISO/DIS 12647... somthing.
    What the heck?
Thanks for any input on this.

I was hoping to have a more immediate solution, as my busy deskside support takes anywhere from a day or two to a week or more for "non-critical" issues. If they were available online I could download them myself.
Also, we've mostly migrated to CS5.5 and Acrobat X, and there's paperwork to ask for a non-standard version to be installed.
And since these files were in my Home directory, the hope was there's a way to recreate the directory, a 'first run" for other users. (I am not an admin for this machine.)

  • Can you create a custom PDF Preflight report?

Is it possible to customize the preflight report?

bollocks, everything can be changed, including acrobats default preflight report, but since adobe isnt forthcoming with options to do so, look at enfocus pitstop instead. acrobat without pitstop is like a car without a steering wheel.
    http://www.enfocus.com/en/support/knowledge-base/how-to-add-a-company-logo-to-the-prefligh t-report?q=Search
and the same is true for acrobat, just gotta find all those resources and a way to edit them without getting into licensing trouble over edititng adobes code.

  • Is Acrobat Pro required in order to be able to REMOVE fonts?

I need to remove fonts from files I am receiving from clients overseas in order to be able to upload the files to U.S. Patent Office for filing.  (The PTO job options file embeds referenced-but-non-embedded fonts, but certain Japanese fonts that are referenced in the source file won't embed, and that is preventing the upload.) I have Acrobat 9, Standard.  I was looking at tutorials on-line for guidance as to how to strip such fonts, but don't seem to find the various menu items that are referenced in the tutorials.  Do I need Acrobat PRO to do such editing?
    Thanks

If possible the task would require use of a Preflight. Preflights are only available with Acrobat Pro.
A quick look through the available Fixups Preflight choices does not show a "remove fonts".
    A note re: embedding fonts.
Acrobat Pro (starting with Acrobat Pro 9.x) provides a Fixup to "Embed Fonts" and a "Embed fonts (even if text is invisible)".
As with any routine processes an existing PDF to embed fonts the following applies (text is that present with the "Embed fonts" Fixup):
"If a PDF uses fonts which are not embedded into the PDF file they are embedded as subsets using this fixup.
It is required that the respective fonts are available to the OS, either in the system folder or activated via a font manager.
Some fonts may have a flag that their license does not allow embedding. In this case the fonts are not embedded into the PDF."
If you had Acrobat Pro and the Japanese fonts installed on your local machine you could embed them (provided the font license permits this).
Alternatively, you client could use process the content into PDF such that the PDF had all fonts embedded and then sent that PDF to you.
Or, the client uses the Acrobat Pro Preflight Fixup to embed the Japanese fonts in issue (this presumes the fonts are installed and available on their local machine).
    Be well...

  • Desaturated colors in Acrobat XI vs OK Colors in Acrobat 9

When I create a PDF in Indesign CC and view it in Acrobat 9 the colors look exactly like in the Indesign document. When I open the PDF in Acrobat XI (11.0.04)  they look desaturated and dull. How is it going to look if I send it to the printer, like in 9 (then I won't worry and simply use that version) or like in XI (then please tell me how I can get my colors right in the PDF). I am using an Eizo Wide Gamut screen (CG241W) on a Mac with the latest version of OS Mavericks.

I've just discovered the same issue on my computer (MacMini 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7, MacOs 10.9.5, Eizo display via HDMI, and freshly updated Acrobat XI from Creative Cloud). Colors in Acrobat look different than in InDesign and Photoshop, though I checked carefully the right profile in "Output preview".
I usually use Acrobat for preflighting prepress files, and the accurate color wasn't crucial so far, but recently it turned out that calibration software from Eizo uses Acrobat's "Output preview" for validating of the calibrating. The other option would be using Photoshop (it worked fine with Photoshop CS2 on my former PowerPC machine) but for an obscure reason it crashes every time Eizo's ColorNavigator tries to switch to Photoshop CC. The validation process goes smoothly with Acrobat, but since it displays wrong colors the validation result is distorted.
All in all there are two issues: inaccurate colors displayed in Acrobat and some incompatibility between Photoshop CC and ColorNavigator (of course, I intend to write to Eizo too). Fixing at least one of them would make me more than happy.

  • White Overprint Preflight?

Is it just me or is there not a setting in Acrobat's preflight that will alert you of white objects set to overprint? I saw white text set to overprint but not anything else. We recently had a file that had some white outlined text set to overprint and it looked fine on the pdf but did not print once sent to the printer. I know I can use the overprint preview but if there's a lot going on in the file it would be real easy to miss a small object.
Flightcheck has this option as do I believe InDesign, but I don't want to have to send everything through InDesign and would prefer to not have to purchase another program when Acrobat has a preflight built in.
    Thanks!

So I built a simple file with white outlined text in Illustrator. One word was set to knock out and the other to overprint. Saved as a pdf and opened in Acrobat. Viewed the overprint preview and the white set to overprint disappeared as expected. Then I went through every "White object is not set to knock-out" profile preset and all of them came back with a no problems found. Even though it obviously is not set to overprint. Even checked it with PitStop and it shows set to overprint.
    Baffling!
    any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Preflight error

    Hi,
We have one pdf, for that when we run preflight, it is showing this error,
"Incorrect value type for array element at index N",
what is this error, and how to fix this error, please guide us.
    Thank you,

We have the same issue and it happens only in Acrobat 9.x
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a Word Document
    2. Convert to PDF using PDFMaker
    3. Open the PDF in Acrobat, run preflight - No errors are reported.
    4. Add a link or Bookmark (Internal - GoTo)
    5. Run preflight - No errors are reported.
    6. Add a link or Bookmark (External - GoToR)  The link or BM goes to another PDF file.
    7. Run preflight - You will see "Incorrect value type for array element at index N" error.
Interesting observation - open the same PDF in Acrobat 7 (with external Link/BM) and you will not see the error!
    8. Remove the external BM/Link and the error goes away.
PS: no external tools/plug-ins/utilities are used in this process.

  • Blackened page and dialog error after opening a PDF file

    Hello,
I have an Acrobat Pro. 8.1 that I had installed in to Win. Vista. After reformatting my system and installing Win. 7 ultimate, I installed it again.  I also have Adobe Reader 9.0 on this system.
Problem is when I click and open a PDF file, it opens it in completely Black page and after a few second Black page goes away and following dialog is display and when I click on Close program on this dialog page the application does not give solution and goes completely away.
Adobe Acrobat 8.1 has stopped working
A problem caused that program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
With a Close program below it.
I can not scan with it either where as I could all the above in Win Vista. What could be wrong?
When I generate System Report if generates the following:

There were documents available in the knowledgeable that I no longer have the urls for. I have had communication with Adobe Acrobat support personnel that have made the same statements. I do not have the habit  of asking official Adobe tech support people to prove their statements by providing documentation. I have also seen Adobe employees give presentations on computers that have had both installed. When they were asked about the incompatibility, they did say the equivalent of phooey. However, enough people on this forum have had their problems disappear when they have removed one of the two programs that I feel comfortable giving that advice. Yes some people have no problems running both until one of the programs or a system component gets updated and then things stop working. My advice is not to have both on the same computer. When two programs share system calls and can fight over who gets to handle the call it makes sense that it can cause a problem. It doesn't make a difference if it is Reader and Acrobat or any two other programs you run. If you are not having a problem with running both GREAT. However, if you are running both and have a problem, it is a simple step to eliminate one and see if the problem disappears.
