Acrobat crashes when extracting pages

Version Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.12
When extracting and emailing pages from a pdf multiple times, Acrobat crashes.  Here is the process:
1. Open pdf
2. Tools -> Pages -> Extract
3. Select any number of pages -> delete after extracting -> Yes at prompt
4. In the extracted page(s) pdf, Share -> Send Files -> Attach to Email -> Attach
5. Default email app opens -> Send email
6. Close extracted page(s) pdf without saving.
7. Go back to original pdf
8. Try to repeat steps 1-6.
The Acrobat crashes every time at step 4 on the 2nd extraction and email.  As soon as the share button is pressed (or using File -> Attach to Email), Acrobat crashes with the below error code.
I have tried multiple different pdfs from different sources (i.e. downloaded from the web, scanned from a printer, generated from a word doc, etc.) as well updating Acrobat, uninstalling and re-installing (using the cleaner tool in between) and repairing install.  The issue happens on multiple machines, all running Win 7 Pro, and there are no add ins installed.

My scanner cables never become disconnected, by the way (as the 2nd error message suggests).

  • Acrobat 8 crashes when extracting pages

Currently experiencing problems when trying to extract pages from PDFs in Acrobat 8 running on Mac 10.5.5. Extracts the pages but before you are able to save the wheel of death starts to spin and Acrobat freezes.
Inserts, deletes etc., and saves without problem. Anyone with similar problems?

Is Acrobat installed on a server or on the local machines?

  • Acrobat crashes when closing a document.

I have developed a simple Acrobat Addin, which adds a menu item and a toolbar button. The active document will be closed when this menu item or toolbar button is clicked. The document is closed using the function "AVDocClose".
Acrobat crashes when AVDocClose is invoked from toolbar button and works fine when invoked from menu item. This happens only when "Show each document in its own window" is checked and in the version 8.0 Professional. Works fine in 7.0. The crash has occured in Acrobat.dll.
Is this crash a known Acrobat issue in 8.0?
    OS : Windows XP
    Thanks,
    Partha

The only  plug-ins installed are the default ones that came installed with Acrobat.  All of these are developed by Adobe, so i'm assuming your are not referring to these as "3rd party".  All custom plug-ins have been uninstalled with the exception of the Stamper sample to test this theory.  Quite literally this can be reproduced by adding  the following code to the "ToolActivate" method in StamperUI.cpp.  This is the method that is wired into both the MenuItem and Button click events by default in this sample.  When this code is executed by a MenuItem event, no issue at all.  When this code is executed by a button click event, an exception is thrown from Acrobat.exe.  Note that the exception is not thrown from the ToolActivate method, it is thrown at some point after this method completes.
    AVDoc avDoc = AVAppGetActiveDoc();
    if (avDoc != NULL)
    AVDocClose(avDoc, true);
As you can see, no objects are being acquired in this code.  If AVDocClose is not executed, no issues at all.  Although that goes against what i am attempting to do (as a result of a Button click, i need to be able to close the AVDoc).
Any thoughts as to root cause of this issue?
Karl, i really appriciate your assistance!  Thanks.

  • Acrobat crashes when I try to Create PDF from Web Page

I'm running version 9.3.4 of Adobe Acrobat Pro, on Windows XP version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600. Recently the company I work for created a new website, and I'm supposed to capture it as a PDF every week. But since the change in site, every time I run acrobat to capture the site (5 levels down, staying on the same path), the program crashes after 30 pages. Can anyone offer any advice on what I can do to correct this?
The site apparently uses a content management system called Wordpress. Wordpress uses many plug-ins that use jquery and javascript.

    Hi miketayber,
We would love to help, but need to know a bit more to get to the root of the problem. Please tell us:
What version of Acrobat are you using
    What operating system you're on
Whether you've been able to scan previously
What you're scanning to (do you have the latest drivers?)
Is there an error message or number associated with the crash?
We look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • File size changes when extract page saved

I receive PDF files with multiple pages that I have to separate.  I use Adobe Acrobat 7.  I open the large file, extract a page and delete it from the larger file, then save the single page with a different name.  I work my way through the large file until all pages are separated.  I have been doing this successfully for a long time.   Today, I received a 870kb file with 24 pages.  Usually the individual pages are around 50kb.  Today, each extracted file was around 300kb.  This made each of the 24 pages well over 10mb when the origial single file was only 870!  This just started happening suddenly.  I have made no changes to settings from the last time I extracted pages this way.   Can anyone help?  This is a huge mystery and needless to say, a huge handicap!  Thanks!

Thanks much for your reply.  It said that "images" was 55.61% and "X object forms" was 41.10%.  The rest were less than 2% each.  Other PDFs I work with are created by a designer the same way as the ones I had problems with.  For some reason, my Adobe is treating some of them differently when I extract pages.  A single file that was 870kb and 24 pages wound up being about 10mb-worth of 24 individual pages.   Any ideas?  Thanks again!

  • Firefox crashes when scolling pages in youtube

I've been having this problem the last 2 weeks, more or less. Firefox crashes when on youtube when I start to scroll or even when I try to go to another tab.
It doesn't seem to be the plugin that crashes because when that crashes it usually doesn't crash the whole browser, when it's only the plugin that crashes you get the message "shockwave flash has stopped working" or something like that, and if you click on the stop plugin button, it just greys out the video frame; I've had this type of crash too, yesterday, but not on the youtube site, it was on another site, in a page with several youtube videos embedded, maybe the two things are related, I don't know, but this type of crash only happened yesterday, and I dont' even recall the last time it had happened.
The other type of crash, as I said, crashes the whole browser, but I also noticed that it doesn't save a crash report; today it happened several times, but the last crash report is the one from yesterday, from the plugin crash I was talking about!
Also, I tried with internet explorer, and all seems to work fine, no crash when I scroll or view videos on youtube; also yesterday, when the plugin was crashing repeatedly, I went in IE and tried with that, and all was working fine.
To sum up, Firefox crashes when scrolling down pages on youtube, not always, but a lot, sometimes when switching to another tab from youtube, yesterday the plugin crashed repeatedly in a page with embedded youtube videos, no crash report for the first type of crash, IE work fine in both cases.
Finally, hardware acceleration in the plugin is disabled, I tried having protected mode in the Flash plugin both disabled and enabled, and no update for my graphic card is available.

I also did a system file check and it says "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". In the log then, the only file that seems it was not possible to repair is "member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.17415". The log is huge so I cannot copy it, I don't know if it's possible to upload a text file, but then again I don't think there's much more. As I said no graphics driver updates are available for my card. After the System file check I went to youtube and started scrolling up and down and the crash happened.

Thank you for clearing that up. I have another idea. There is a feature called accelerated scrolling in Firefox, however there are also modules that might be associated with malware. Options > Advanced > General > Smooth scrolling (uncheck this to test)
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus [http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/windows8.aspx#antivirus built-in] already.

  • Acrobat Crashes when converting PDF to .png

I've been having a problem for a while now. I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Pro and when I try to convert PDF to .png, acrobat crashes. It doesnt let me do it and I´ve been trying with different documents. Anyone with the same problem? It would help me a lot if you have a solution. Thanks

    Hey,
You might try reducing the size of the PDF file and then convert to .png.
Also, please check for updates for Acrobat 8 and try repairing.
Let me know if this helps.
    Regards,

  • Acrobat crashes when using the Instance Manager

I am using Designer 7.0/Acrobat 7.0.1 on Win XP SP 2 (and tested on two other machines with the same config), and also Mac OS X 10.3.9 with Acrobat 7.0.1.
The crash occurs when my script tries to hide a subform, but only when the script is called from a Drop-Down List. I have mocked up a brand new PDF and the problem is still there:
    http://members.optusnet.com.au/machelp/crash.pdf
If you click the Show/Hide Subform buttons it works fine. If you choose an item from the List Box it shows the subform correctly, and then choose one of the 'Other Mag' items and it hides the subform correctly. Do the same process with the Drop-Down List and it is guaranteed to crash when you choose an 'Other Mag' item (which should hide the subform). The Mac has no problem with crashing at all!
The crash message (that appears after the 'Send feedback to Microsoft' message is 'The instruction at "0x2d864aa2" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on "OK" to terminate the program.' This exact error happens on all PC's that I tested on, in Acrobat Pro or Reader.
Can someone please help me identify if this is a bug in Acrobat or is there something I'm not doing right?
    Many thanks in advance, Mike.
    PS. Also Designer crashes
    i a lot
when laying out forms. Does this happen to anyone else?

I would send this to Adobe Support.

  • Acrobat crashes when creating a PDF from a web page

Whenever I ask Acrobat to create a PDF from a web page, it crashes halfway through the process.  Here is an example from the BBC:-
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19585341
Printing to PDF from the browser does not produce an accurate document.  The font is too big, and most of the pictures do not appear.
    I use Acrobat X Pro version 10.1.4.
This is a PC problem.  On the Mac it works.

The problem I mentioned is peculiar to Acrobat 10 and also to my PC.  On a Mac I can create PDF's from webpages normally.
I also notice that when printing to PDF from Opera only the first page comes out.  (Using Firefox all pages are printed to PDF.)

  • 10.6.8 user receives Acrobat X crash when deleting pages in large PDF

    The user hasn't complained yet.

  • After 9.5.2 updated, Acrobat crashes when trying to insert a page

I just installed the 9.5.2 update today, and now I can't insert a page into a PDF or combine files (merge into a single PDF), either. Whenever the file dialog box should open, Acrobat simply quits.
How can I roll back to the previous version, or fix the problem?
Running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit, Office 2010, Acrobat Professional 9.5.2. If it matters, my computer is an HP EliteBook 8740w with 4GB of RAM.

May be a 64-bit issue. I just tried an insert with 9.52 on Win7, 32-bit, and it worked fine.

  • Acrobat crashing when editing Initial View settings (3D ver 8.1.6)

Two of my colleagues are experiencing crashes in Adobe Acrobat 3D Version 8 when they try to adjust the settings on the Initial View tab. (It's working fine for me, and we all have similar systems.) Any suggestions?
    Steps to recreate:
Create a PDF. (Note: One coworker created a PDF from a Word 2003 document. The other created a PDF from a FrameMaker 8 document. The crash is happening for both of them.)
Open the PDF in Acrobat 8.
From the File menu, select Properties. The Document Properties window appears.
    Click the Initial View tab.
Attempt to change some settings on this tab. (For example, change the Navigation tab option to Bookmarks Panel and Page.) Note: This is the point at which Adobe is crashing for my coworkers. They used to be able to adjust these settings, and we're not sure specifically when this functionality stopped working.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello try67,
the system is an terminalserver where only a special group can use the Acrobat 8 pro. The other users only can view the PDF-Files with Adobe Reader.
I have figuerd out the problem.
The problem results from two registry keys.
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document\shell\open\command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\open\command
This keys are set to Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe.
If you change this keys to Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe all links in Office 2003 to PDF-Files will open for "normal" users the Adobe Reader and for the users in the special group the Acrobat 8 pro is opened.
    Regards
    Lukas
