Acrobat Designer 7

I have a form created in AA Designer 7 that is not backward compatible with Acrobat 5 or older versions of Acrobat Reader. When you open it with AA5 you are prompted to upgrade (given a link) and that is not an option. The form will open and I've tried just to save it in AA5 with the hope of "down-grading" it but AA5 will crash when I do that.
Question: Anyway to make it backward compatible?

Based on the comments of the others, recreate the form using AcroForms (these are the form tools under the TOOLS>Advanced Editing menu). When you save, use Reduce File Size or PDF Optimizer rather than the save buttons. Those allow you to make the form backward compatible. Don't bother with any of the AA7 specific form features or they will be deleted when made backward compatible.

  • De-selecting picture in form created in Acrobat Designer 7

    Hi All
I have created a form in Acrobat Designer 7 for users to populate with Adobe Reader and submit by email. The problem I have is that once an image has been placed in the image field in Adobe Reader, the user cannot remove it. The issue is made worse in that by adding a different image, both images are overlayed and results in a large file size.
    Any suggestions?

I successfully tried the following.....I have added a button next to the image field and used the following code in "Click" event....
    this.parent.ImageField1.dataNode.value = "";
Which created the image and set to white space.....good start for you to think in that direction?

  • Using Acrobat Designer 7

I've created multiple forms, using Designer 7.0; however....
the digital signature fields will not function when the recipient
(submitter) of the forms trys to click on the signature fields.
    Nothing happens, kinda frustrating.
I was under the impression (understanding) that we could
create the forms and send them to someone who would be able to fill
out all the fields and submit form back to us. The returned data
would come back in the XML format in the email, (as long as we do
not have digital signatures in the form), but digital signature
fields no work? The submitters were using Acrobat Reader 8.
Could anyone help me with this problem, or at least explain
why that part of the product will not function?
The Digital Signature Fields were created per Adobe Designer
    Help instructions.

  • Acrobat Designer -Show/Hide/Delete Pages

I have a PDF that is built in Designer 7.0.41126, it has 3 static data capture pages and 6 dynamic pages that are set to hidden at the begining of the process. Once the user captures the data they click a generate button and the script makes the pages visible based on the data entered. This works great and based on the data the document can grow up to 16 pages.
The first issue I have is that if you save the document in Acrobat 7 Professional (not reader) and re-open the document the dyanamic pages are hidden again and you only have the 3 static pages. Is there anyway to make the dynamic pages stay visible?
The second issue is that I want to be able to delete the data capture pages so the user can send the document to a customer without the data capture pages. I read that the javascript funtion deletepages does not work in a Designer 7 document. Any suggestions? The customer will more then likely be using reader to view the document.
    Thanks in advance.

    > and involve programatically manipulating the data DOM.
I have gotten to the point were I want to manipulate the DOM.  I want to delete large portions during runtime with javascript.  Am I trying to delete "XML Source" or DOM (I'm not sure).  Using the presence attribute is not sufficient any more because the file has gotten so large, the whole point of "deleting" pages is to shrink the file size.
I understand how to read XML source, and I understand JavaScript.  I don't even know if what I want to do is possible.  In a form with the xml source below, can I delete the subform node and all its children with javascript at runtime?

  • Acrobat Designer 7.0

When I try to post a form I get the message:
Acrobat unable to connect to your email program.
    Using:
    Outlook Express or Thunderbird,
    Windows XP Pro SP3

Designer is covered in another forum. However, assuming that the mail interface is the same as Acrobat, you likely to not have MAPI active (I think that is the service that is required in Windows for interacting with mail packages). Anyway, Acrobat requires that the e-mail package be properly configured for this interaction. It may be that you have a system that it does not work on. I did try it on my new VISTA with AA8 and could not get it to work. This is a major reason why e-mail submissions are a bad idea, even if Acrobat seems to suggest using e-mail. I may look into it later, but that is the issue.
You might try opening Outlook before trying to submit the form, or check Control Panel>Internet Options>Programs>Set Programs>Custom and see what e-mail client is selected. Then be sure that client works. That is likely my problem on VISTA since I do not use Outlook and the MAPI interface is oriented toward OFFICE products.

help please? after a few hrs on chat with a tech, adobe refuses to support a product we purchased!

    I wrote too soon.
So the form seems to be done and functional.  I just had to click cancel before going to Livecycle.  Then I save it and work on it in Acrobat.  I don't know why Livecycle isn't installed correctly, or honestly, what Livecycle does that Acrobat doesn't.
    Anyway, problem resolved.

  • Acrobat 9 or Designer 8.2  Which of the two is best program to design a form in.

I have some questions that I would like explained to me (by you long time users)
    I have acrobat 9 and designder 8.2.1
    1. Which of the two is best program to design a form in.
    2. What is the differance between the two in designing a form.(advantages / disadvantages)
    3. If I have a word .doc form that I want to make into a pdf, which program is best to open it in to work on, Adobe 9 or designer.
    4. If I create a form in Adobe 9 or designer can I open it in either after saving it to continue working on.
    TIA
    Tony

I think this is a matter of opinion. The drawback of using Designer is that you can no longer edit in Acrobat at all. Those of us that learned in Acrobat, often favor the Acrobat route. In Designer you can import WORD forms and that might be useful at times; however, you can not edit it in Acrobat. Indeed, you can still open the form made in either using Reader or Acrobat. If you want backward compatibility, you need to be careful about saving it as such and not adding capabilities that are new with AA9. Those capabilities will be lost with earlier versions.
The best way is to try it both ways and see what you think. When you buy Acrobat, Designer is part of the package. Thus you have the choice and can try both. Make a sample PDF for creating a form and then make 2 copies. You might even start out with a WORD form. Discover the pros and cons yourself. I have never felt the need to go to Designer and it seems that a lot of folks go there only because that is where the forms menu sends them, not realizing they could have used the TOOLS in Acrobat.

  • Printing Blank Pages in Adobe Acrobat

I hope someone can help me with this. This seems to be the most ridiculous problem in the world.
So I created a form in Adobe Acrobat designer. I'd be happy to send it to you guys if that would help. And everything is working fine with the form until I go to print it. For some reason the form shows up on my print dialog as a completely blank document and when I print I get an empty sheet of paper from my printer. Any ideas on why this would even happen in the first place and what I can do to correct it?
    Thanks

Can you post a link to the document?

  • OCR: acrobat 9 or readiris?

  • Printing problem from Adobe Acrobat 8 and Reader 9

    Hello together,
i've got a problem while printing from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 and Acrobat Reader 9.
I've got the Error: /usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstoraster failed
It happens with my new Canon ip4700 and my brother laser printer.
I got the newest available Version of OSX and the Adobe Updates.
The PDF files are printed in the "OSX Preview", but not in the Adobe Software
Happy for any help or advice.
    Best,
    Lukasz

Acrobat 8 and Reader 9 are not compatible. The only versions of Reader and Acrobat designed to be compatible with each other in Windows is Reader and Acrobat X.

  • LC designer ES will not load

    I am running Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1, with Acrobat X Suite.
I wanted to create a form from scratch and in a previous incarnation of Acrobat that came with LC, I would just click on the LC program icon and get going. Not sure if the X suite is different but when I click on the LC icon, nothing happens
In Task Manager, I can see FormDesigner.exe *32 running and I can trigger many instances of this with wild abandon. But the program does not launch at all.
There is no option in Acrobat Pro to launch LC (like there used to be).
I also cannot find LC in Programs and Features to try and repair the installation. I have tried repairing Acrobat Pro but with no change to the outcome.
I finally found the exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Designer 9.0 but cannot see anything that looks like an obvious 'fix me' or 'run me'.
I'd really appreciate any pointers. Happy to deactivate and uninstall/reinstall but hoping that there's an update I've missed that will do the trick in half the time!
    Thanks for your help.
    Louise

The Acrobat/Designer bundle in the Acrobat Suite is not different to the one you get with Acrobat Pro.
As you can see the designer.exe in the task manager it was installed as designed.
But, there should only be one instance of this process in the task manager at all.
Maybe the UAC from Win7 blocks the app while lauching and is waiting for your input.
Or something got garbled in you user account at all.
Try to start the app under another user account.
If this brings no other results you should start over with the installation.

  • Confusion with the use of PDF417 Barcodes

I am trying to get clarification on what is required to utilize the Acrobat Designer to create a form that creates a PDF417 barcode. Here is the scenario:
We would like to create a form with Designer (bundled with Acrobat 7.0 Professional)that will be used as an index sheet for a document scanning system.
The form would contain one or more fields that a user would complete using the standard Acrobat 7.0 Reader that they can download from Adobe. When the user completes the data entry into the fields, they will print out the form (containing the 2D barcode (PDF417).
The form would be scanned and put through recognition software that is supposed to ready PDF417 2D barcodes.
I have read through the literature and have seen inconsistent representations regarding the ability of a user to use the Acrobat reader to complete the form and print it with the PDF417 barcode.
In one of the forum postings a user was told that they needed certain decoder software from Adobe or extensions.
I am not clear if the user filling out a form using Acrobat 7.0 reader, which generates the PDF417 barcode supposedly, can be read by an application which supports that barcode type. Or, if this is a special type of PDF417 barcode that has some additional attributes that requires special software from Adobe to be recognized.
Please explain how I accomplish the objective set forth above.

    Mike,
It looks like I scanned over your email a little too quickly and missed a
VERY important point. You mention that your form will be "bundled with Acrobat 7.0 Professional". This is VERY important.
In fact, you will need to license nothing else from Adobe. You DO NOT need Reader Extensions because you are deploying Acrobat Professional on the work stations that will be filling in your forms. You do not need to "turn on" hidden functionality of the Free Reader if you are using Acrobat Pro. You already have all the functionality you need.
Second, when you fill in a Barcoded Form with Acrobat Professional the PDF417 Barcode that is rendered in your form will be a 100% standard PDF417 Barcode. But do not turn on compression. When filled in - in Acrobat - the Barcode is rendered so that it can be read by ANY Decoder that can read PDF417. However, if you enable compression you will need to use the Adobe Decoder. If you start decoding and see you are getting lower than a 99.9% decode rate, take a look at buying the Adobe Decoder. Not the whole "Barcoded Forms" license, just the Decoder.
    Again,
if you are using Acrobat to fill in these forms, you have nothing else to buy. If you want to deploy these forms with the Free Reader then you will need to license Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms and possibly ARES.

  • Creating a relation between fields

This is my first use of Acrobat & Designer and I am having difficulty.
I want to create a relationship between a check-box field and a drop-down list field. I would like a specific value in a drop-down list to be shown when an adjacent check box field is selected.
I am not familiar enough with script writing to figure it out. I can't find any reference to such an option. I am sure someone much smarter than I must know the answer.
Also, is there a good reference book out there for LiveCycle Designer?
    Thanks.

    Dallas,
You can use the following script to do that:
    if (CheckBox1.rawValue == 1){
    DropDownList.rawValue = "CA";
    }else DropDownList.rawValue = "AL";
What you need to do is for all the values in you drop down list, in the binding tab you need to assign values by clicking specify item values. So for my case above say I have a few countries listed, the item value for Canada in my drop down list is CA. So if my heckbox is ticked it will show Canada, if not it shows Albania and so on.
    Does that make sense?
Here is a link to the LiveCycle Designer Developer Center where you will find some usefull documents and samples that will help get you started: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/livecycle/designer/devcenter.html
Check out the Adobe XML form object model document on there.

  • How to generate a pdf form from a webform

    HOW TO GENERATE POPULATED PDF?
We used to fill out the forms at work longhand (yes, with a pen!)
Now since we created the form using Acrobat 9 Pro, we just enter the data on computer, and print out the form.
Acrobat 9 form creator was great - I found it quite easy to use.
Now, I'd like to automate the process even further.
Each week we receive response forms from our website (maybe about 20-25).  These response forms have about 10 fields that
people have completed with their information.Currently I am printing  out the response form and then open up the acrobat form and I enter their information into the pdf (and then print).
    1. Is it possible to automatically populate a pdf from the response form ? (without me having to print out the response form and re-enter the data)
    2. Is it really complicated; is this something I can do with some software/learning or do i need a programmer?
Thank you kindly for any advice or direction.

It sounds like you are using the forms in your local shop and that e-mail may work fine. If e-mail submission works fine (not recommended for normal use, but find in a controlled environment where you can be sure each e-mail client is running MAPI), then add a submit button to submit a FDF or XML data file (I like FDF when using forms in Acrobat, Designer only uses XML forms). You can then import the FDF or XML data to the form and print it. You can even manipulate the FDF or XML data and add it to a database of some form, furthering your processing even more.
