Acrobat Distiller Adobe PDF default setting changes mysteriously

I am using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional on a Windows XP PC. On numerous occasions, my Acrobat Distiller Adobe PDF default setting changes mysteriously from "High Quality" to "PDFX1a". I do not know what is causing the default setting to change automatically. Would you know some possible causes? Thanks for your help.

Hi Led2,
Have you tried repairing the Acrobat installation and checked?
I would also recommend updating to version 9.5.5 and check.

Ravi

I want hold the default setting and prevent modifing it,How can i do? can it be realized by javascript program? Thanks a lot!

    Hi,Test Screen Name
Because HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Ad obe PDF\ is the dir where to set the property of Adobe PDF printer when windows load it , this is experience, no documentation(or i don't find) , perhaps there will be other registry itemes which does not list in that dir ,but i don't know , that is why i think it just like what you have said ' It looks very like a "discovery" rather than a policy ' . For this reason , i want to realize it by adobe acrobat SDK programming ,but now  the second way is impossible. Thank you again !

  • Acrobat Distiller 9 PDF PPD

    Hey Guys.
A user has requested the acrobat 9 PPD to allow her to create a PDF from a postscript file.
It appears to have not been installed with CS4 on her Snow Leopard machine.
Googled high and low and the only PPD files I can locate for Adobe PDF is from as far back as 2002.
Many of the links on the adobe site seem to be dated or lead in loops or nowhere at all.
Can anyone link me or point me in the right direction of where I can find this PPD?
    thanks
    chris

In the past, I have always created a Postscript file from InDesign and then used Distiller to create a PDF file.  This can still be done in Snow Leopard, but the steps are a little different.  Go to the "Print" menu and select Adobe PDF 9.0 in the "Printer" window. Then click on the "Printer" window again, and this time select Postscript File. Now Postscript File appears in the "Printer" window, and Adobe PDF 9.0 appears in the "PPD" window. From there you apply all the necessary changes to Setup, Marks and Bleeds and so on.
    I hope this helps.

  • I don't have a PPD Adobe PDF 8 setting, HELP!

    Hello,
I'm on a crunch deadline, and recently switched to a new computer. I have to make a post script file for a newspaper with seperations. However, every time I do, the PDF default to an 8half by 11 inch pdf. The ad is full page newspaper, so obviously, I'm missing alot of ad.
I think I narrowed it down to setting my PPD in the Print Dialog to Adobe PDF 8.0. Unfortunately, it's not there. How can I get it? Or what must I do to make my seperation postscript come out correctly sized?
Please help, I only have a few hours before this is due!

    Huckle Berry,
    <br />
<br />I can now say with some confidence that the problem you have with not seeing Adobe PDF 8 in the Printer pop up in the Print dialog is not a Leopard problem. Let me explain.
    <br />
<br />I posed the following question with a Preps Tech support person:
    <br />
<br />"I &#160;simply want to know if Adobe PDF 8 (as installed by Acrobat Pro
<br />8.1.2) shows up in the Print pop up button in the InDesign Print
<br />dialog in *Leopard*? I cannot test that myself, as I do not have
    <br />Leopard yet."
    <br />
<br />and received the following reply:
    <br />
<br />"Yes, I believe it does. Heres a screen capture of the evidence.

    <br />
<br />In the same exchange with this support person, I learned that the virtual printer method that I was offering you indeed does NOT work in Leopard, so it would not have worked for you. But the method you were referring to in your original post should work in Leopard. So there is something else malfunctioning in you set up.
    <br />
<br />Not what you wanted to hear, at least now you can pursue the real problem. I does seem like Adobe is not at fault here.

  • "Preview" app default setting change??

Whenever I open PDF, Preview app will open the file with "side bar" showing page thumbnails (or table of contents if pdf was created with contents). This is really annoying because I have to close the side bar every time. I really do not want to see side bar whenever I open PDF documents.
How do I make this change as a default setting??
    Thanks,

    Thanks for the reply.
Under Preference: "Show Side Bar" has been 'unchecked' but still show sidebar with thumbnails whenever I open multi-page pdf document.
I'm aware of "Sidebar" button on top... but I really want to set "no sidebar" as default.
    Any other suggestion??

  • What is the Acrobat 7 Adobe PDF printer driver name?

I can no longer print to my "Adobe PDF" printer.
I have Acrobat 7.1.0 (as part of Creative Suite 2) on my small travel laptop system running Windows XP Professional, SP3.
Recently, if I try to print to a PDF file from Firefox, I get:
"an unexpected error has occurred" or "an unknown error has occurred while printing".
I went to the Adobe PDF printer itself and if I try to choose the properties, I get "The Adobe PDF Converter' is not installed on this computer. Then it asks me if I want to install the driver now.  If I say yes, it wants the driver name, which I don't know and don't see obvious candidates.   If I say no, and I see the properties for the PDF printer, it says the driver is "Adobe PDF Converter", but I guess the underlying driver file is missing.
I found a posting for how to manually reinstall the printer on Acrobat 10, but my directory structure is different and I don't have a file called pdf.inf, so I suspect the driver name is different in Acrobat 7.
I can still launch Acrobat 7 just fine, and have tried doing the repair from the help menu twice, and rebooted afterward.  No luck.
I didn't delete the Adobe PDF printer before the repair.  I was afraid to.
I could go back to the original CS2 disks, but then I'll lose all the updates I've downloaded and installed over the years.  I don't know if Adobe even has the updates for CS2 online anymore.
I suspect if I knew the name of the PDF printer driver in Acrobat 7, I may be able to fix it. Even if the file got deleted, I likely have it on an old backup.
Does anyone know the name of the ".inf" driver file for the Adobe PDF printer in Acrobat7 (CS2)?
If not, is there something else I can run from the setup files that will reinstall the PDF converter?
    Thanks.
    Cindy

I cannot confirm, but feel confident that Adobe has the updates available for CS2.
    Reinstall from the disks.
I just looked through my XP system running CS2; I cannot see an easy way to reinstall the Adobe PDF Printer, but it is already installed there.

  • Acrobat 8 - Adobe PDF Printer hanging when printing

    Hi
I have an installation of Adobe CS3 Design Standard on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. When attempting to use the 'Adobe PDF' printer from an Adobe application, i.e. Illustrator, Photoshop, the application freezes and the PDF printer does not proceed to convert the document. The job is in the print spooler, however this either sits there with 'error', or 'spooling'.
This behaviour does not occur when using another application such as Microsoft Word.
When looking at the printer preferences of the printer, the tab appears to be malformed and incomplete.  (see screenshot)
There are no options under the 'Adobe PDF Folder' dropdown, apart from LPT1.
I have tried reinstalling Acrobat from the CS3 DVD, after deleting the printer and driver, however this does not appear to solve the problem.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?
    Thanks, Luke.

Thanks for this, it solved the problem!
It appears that despite the updater saying there weren't any updates, there clearly were. I'm guessing they've turned off the update servers as it's such an old product.
For the record, I installed 8.1 and 8.1.1 all the way to 8.1.7 individually.
    Thanks again.
    Luke.

  • Default for opening pdf files keeps changing back to 'save file' after I set it to open in firefox

Since upgrading to the latest Firefox version, my options for opening adobe pdf files have changed. I set it to 'use Adobe Acrobat in Firefox', it works absolutely fine, then some time over the next few days it changes itself back to 'save file'. Then I have to open options and change it again. This happened to me some years back with a much earlier version of Firefox - I can't remember how it was resolved, I think it just stopped doing it after a while. But it is most irritating!

I echo the request for Help! I've added Options to my Toolbar so I can more easily change "Save File" to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" as the default. Why does Firefox keep reverting to the save file default?

  • Set save-as-pdf as a default action ("just hit Enter") in print-dialog (w/out Adobe PDF)

The problem is clear: i don't print on paper
...instead, i just save documents as PDFs and send them over email.
But it takes waaay too many clicks to get to that sub-menu-button-item on a regular basis.
So just like with any other modal dialog i would prefer to just hit Enter and be done with that.
And for that i aprntly need a “Save to PDF” option set up as a printer, so it would be always a default choice.
I know Adobe Acrobat installs “Adobe PDF” as a printer, so it it's doable, but it costs money and i don't acly need any extra apps if PDFs are supported by the OSX itself. So strike that.
Please, how else can i make it happen?
    Thank you for ur time.

  • Adobe PDF Properties

I am having an issue with the Properties that need to be set at installtion of Acrobat Adobe 7 Standard. I install this package via SMS Server and use Microsoft SMS Installer. When Acrobat installs the Paper available setting under the General Tab and the For to Tray Assignment under the Device Settings always defaults to LETTER size. I deliver to 1500+ computers and need to have the Default set to A4 size.
I run the following registry key changes but these do not seem to do the trick:
    (1)[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser] with value set to
"Adobe PDF"=(then the proper hex:# for A4). I know the hex number is correct because LETTER changes to A4.
(2)[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2] value set to "Adobe PDF"=hex:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF] value set to "Default DevMode"=hex:
    (3)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\DsDriver] values set to "printMediaReady"=hex(7):41,00,34,00,00,00,00,00 and "TrayFormTable"=hex:
    (4)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData] value set to "TrayFormTable"=hex:
(5)KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF] value set to "Default DevMode"=hex:
    (6)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\DsDriver] values set to "printMediaReady"=hex: 41,00,34,00,00,00,00,00 and "TrayFormTable"=hex:
    (7)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData] value set to "TrayFormTable"=hex:
(8)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF] value set to "Default DevMode"=hex:
    (9)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\DsDriver] value set to "printMediaReady"=hex(7):41,00,34,00,00,00,00,00
    (10)[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers\Adobe PDF\PrinterDriverData] value set to "TrayFormTable"=hex:
(11)[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Printers\DevModePerUser] value set to "Adobe PDF"=hex:
(12)[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Printers\DevModePerUser] value set to "Adobe PDF"=hex:
I have run the regestry change right after the installation and have run it also after the reboot of the installation. The registry changes shoe Aç but the actual properties in the reference above remain LETTER size. Would someone be so kind as to explain just where I am going wrong?

    Hi,
you can modify the language setting with a workaround in Acrobat.

  • PDF Size jumps when printing to Adobe PDF printer redirected vs. locally installed

I have a Server 2008 R2 setup to run Sage Peachtree as a RemoteApp.  RemoteApp is configured to pass local drives and printers through to the server for end user ease.  When you print an invoice (or any file from Peachtree) to the Adobe Acrobat
X "Adobe PDF" printer that has been redirected, a single page pdf will save at about 1.1mb.  If I print the exact same invoice to a local install of Adobe Acrobat X "Adobe PDF" printer on the Server 2008 R2 install, it will save to
about 8kb (which is the expected size for a single page pdf of lines and txt).
If you then try and print the 1.1mb pdf file to a normal HP printer PS (postscript) driver, it will expand in the print spooler several magnitudes to about 10-15mb, giving the impression that it sees the pdf data as an image instead of txt.
My guess is that the data being sent over the remote desktop connection to the redirected "Adobe PDF" printer is coming out of the pipe in a form that Adobe can only interpret as a graphic and thus compresses it as though it was one.
Anyone have any ideas on how to the local printer and the redirected printers to receive the same type of data and thus create pdf files of similiar size?

I suspected as much.  I was hopeful it was something like a setting that needed to be changed or a reg hack that needed a bit changed from 0 to 1 to make the printing work as expected.  I only installed the local printer to see if the RDP session
tunnel was in fact causing the print size to balloon so I will continue to instruct users to use that instead of the local redirected printer.  I am disappointed but not surprised.
    Edit:
Additionally I have tested the functionality of setting the GPO settings for Easy Print to use the redirected printer's drivers instead of the ones used by easy print, by setting “Computer
Configuration -> Administrative templates -Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host -> Printer Redirection”.
    to “Disabled” but
with no luck.  In fact the printer received the proper Adobe PDF driver, but the job went out into print spool hell and was lost to the ether.  I have concluded that this approach will not bear any fruit.

  • Printing extremely slow to Adobe PDF printer

I have a user that I have recently upgraded from Adobe Pro 8 to Adobe Standard X.  She uses the default Adobe PDF printer to print graphic files into PDF that are generated from inside a Visual Basic program.  This has always worked well until I performed the upgrade.  Now, sometimes when we prints, the graphic file will be printed into a PDF file relatively quickly (10 seconds).  Other times, the screen will go white, and it will take literally 5 minutes for the distiller to start making the PDF file.  Once the distiller finally does start, it runs as normal and in the normal amount of time (10 seconds or so).  While the computer is "frozen" in that state, the spooler just says "spooling", and the distiller icon does not show up in the system tray.  Does any one have any ideas as to why the distiller would sometimes work normally and other times take so long to start?  I have searched this forum and the web and have not found any solutions.  I am getting frustrated and considering putting her back at her old Adobe Pro version.
    Thanks for your reply!

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for responding.
I finally figured out the problem on my own and thought I would share with everyone else. My colleague's machine had both Acrobat and Adobe PDF printer, but she didn't have Adobe Reader. I downloaded Reader, attempted to print to Adobe PDF and it worked!

  • Adobe PDF printer  - Use VBA??

I am using Microsoft Access 2003 and have Acrobat 7 (Adobe PDF) and Acrobat 5 (Adobe PDF Writer) installed on my machine.   I can print to the Adobe PDF printer by using this code:
    Set Application.Printer = Application.Printers("Adobe PDF")
    DoCmd.OpenReport strReport, acViewNormal, , , acHidden
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to use an Acrobat object to set the path and document name without user intervention (which the code above requires as a dialog pops up requesting that information).
So, I am pretty good at figuring out how to use the various properties and methods of objects but I am just not sure WHICH objects I should be dealing with and I got lost in trying to read the SDK.
Can anyone provide at least a push in the right direction?
    Bob
P.S. If I posted this to the wrong forum or category, please do not just tell me that I did, but let me know where it should go.  I posted this originally to the wrong place and was told so, but I had to use a private message to the employee (who told me I had posted to the wrong place and locked the thread) in order to find out that THIS might be the proper location.
