Acrobat distiller (first use) don't open PDF file what to do ?

Hi,
Acrobat distiller (first use) don't open PDF file and give this message (in french)  : Erreur dans /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2008.joboptions : /CheckCompliance out of range Avertissement : Distiller ne traite pas les extensions de fichiers .PDF ou .JDF.
What should I do ?
Thanks for your reply.

No, Distiller does not do that job at all. Distiller makes PDF files, but it does not read them.
I am not sure what you are using: Distiller Server is finished as a product. Distiller comes with Acrobat also - this is not Distiller Server.
Acrobat Pro includes many tools for processing PDF files and can sometimes reduce file size. It can also convert to PDFX4 using Preflighting.

  • Acrobat 7 shuts down imidiately when opening PDF-files on webpages

The company in which I am employed used Acrobat 7. A while ago 1 or 2 employees started having problems opening PDF-files from web sites. PDF-files on our server and local hard drive would open with no problem. Since then the problem has spreaded to almost all the employees.
When we click on a link which links to a PDF-file, Acrobat loads the file normally and then shuts down imidiately.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. I have tried to upgrade to the newest sub-version of the Acrobat 7. I have tried to right-click, open in new window. Nothing helps.
Has anyone experienced this and solved it?
    Your help is greatly appreciated!

Update: In my company we have decided that we do not want PDF-files to open in Internet Explorer (because of reason related to out intranet) when clicking on a link to a PDF-file on the internet, so we have unchecked the setting "Show PDF in browser".
When I re-check the setting "Show PDF in browser" the above mentioned problem disappears. Why oh why?

  • After upgrading acrobat 6.0 pro to  acrobat 6.0.1 Unable to open pdf file in IE

I have down loaded acrobat 6.0.1 pro upgrade patch from adobe site.
After upgrading pdf files are not opening in IE from our application.
On top of 6.0.1 i have upgraded to 6.0.2->6.0.3->6.0.4
On opening pdf files from IE it gives error "Document is damaged and it cannot be repaired"
    Thanks,
    Bhagya

You should update all of the levels and retry. It may be a bug in 6.0.1. You have 5 more updates to go. That may not resolve the issue, in which case come back and indicate the problem. However, with what you are saying about Mozilla, it sounds like you need to update IE (I am not sure what you mean by 6 & 7, unless you are talking about different machines). Sometimes you have to do a fix on Acrobat after OFFICE is updated as I recall.
I am only making suggestions about how to approach the problem. I have no clue what the problem is an can only suggest the steps I might take to resolve the issue. I forgot whether the plugin for IE is from Adobe or MS.

  • Acrobat 7.1 IE plugin cannot open .pdf Files with mt/application/octet-stream

    Hi Folks,
we have some problems to open pdf - files via Hyperlink in an IE Explorer. this files get from the web-server the MIME-Type "octet-stream".
the only option is to save and then open the pdf files. But we want to open the pdf files directly IN the IE. the option to open it not in IE is not possible because then another application will not work.
Is it generally possible to open an pdf File with an octet-stream MIME-Type with the IE-Pluin, and if Yes is ther any possible configuration we could try.
    Thanks for your help
    regards
    Felix

    Hi Bill,
we already tried to change that checkbox that solves the problem but we get new problems with other applications, so this way is also no option for us.
also we tried to repair / reinstall acrobat, but it has no effect.
I suppose that maybe adobe just closed that door to open pdf documents with the octet-stream MIME-Type. Because it could an way to insert executable files in the system.
maybe a higher version than 7.1 can do this?
Thanks for your help, here in Germany it is already 2 pm so not far from quitting-time ;)

  • Can't use preview to open pdf files

In the last week Preview has stopped opening my PDF files, it's like the  pdf that comes via email has no link so I have to right click and use "open with" and can only open pdf files now using adobe reader.  I have not installed anything lately so not sure why this has happened recently.
Could a file have been deleted by mistake somewhere or preview become corrupt? Or a setting changed?
Any help would be appreciated as I like using preview (seeing as it was my default program)
Have also clicked on pdf file and did the I command, tried to change it as if new to open with preview and same thing an error message appears.
    Thanks

Adobe Reader installed? If so, remove Reader.
    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet PLug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click those and select “Move To Trash’.

  • Just installed Acrobat 9 and it won't open .pdf files I receive in emails

Just installed the newest version of Adobe CS4 Design Premium, and have a problem with Acrobat 9 Pro. Using Windows 7 Home Premium OS.  My problem is that with the last 4 emails I've received which have attached PDF files, I'm unable to open those files (using Eudora 7.1 email client).  Acrobat gives the the error message:  "There was an error opening this document.  The file cannot be found."  When I forward these emails to my other computer which is running Acrobat 7 Standard, the attachments open fine.  To further the puzzle, I tried to open older emails which have PDF attachments (which I opened a while ago) and they open fine in Acrobat 9.  Any ideas?  Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I found that I can right-click on the attachment and "save attachment as..." to the desktop, and then it will open from there with no problem.  Good work-around so that at least I have access to important attachments.  But, it should open when I click on it inside the email, like it has with Acrobat 7 ever since I've owned it.  Must have something to do with the interaction between AA9 and Eudora (a legendary but OLD email client). The attachments do, in fact, appear to be PDF files, so I can rule that one out.

  • Can not use Parameters for Opening PDF Files

I can not open pdf with parameter page like: http://example.con/pdf/1.pdf#page=20 that just get result alway open first page. Everyone can help me?

The PDF Open Parameters do not contain the option to link directly to a bookmark, as was mentioned, but I've developed a script that can add this functionality to your files. Have a look here, if you're interested: http://try67.blogspot.com/2011/06/acrobat-link-to-specific-bookmark-in.html

  • Upgrade to Acrobat Pro XI -- Chrome doesn't open PDF files

I get an error that says my PDF reader is out of date.  When I try to update, it wants to install Acrobat reader.  I'm confused and need help.
    Thanks.

    Hi JeffLazar,
There are a couple of solutions. The first is to revert to using Chrome’s own PDF viewer by reversing your earlier actions (so type about:plug-ins into the address bar then click the disable link next to the Adobe Reader/Acrobat link).
This would stop the constant nagging to update because the PDF viewer would be updated with Chrome (which anyway happens automatically, without the user’s input or knowledge). However, it would also mean putting up with the Chrome PDF viewer quirk that bothered you in the first place.
The second option is to force Chrome to ignore, and therefore run, outdated plug-ins. This is an all-or-nothing approach, though, that isn’t recommended by Google – or even by Adobe – because it could leave your browser at risk from some as-yet-undiscovered security hole (updates to plug-ins are often made to fix such flaws).
But if you’re determined to keep using Chrome and want to keep using Adobe’s PDF viewer without the update annoyances then using the --allow-outdated-plugins command-line parameter when launching the Chrome executable file will do this (it begins with two hyphens).
If you launch Chrome from the Start menu, for example, then click Start then point to All Programs followed by Google Chrome and then right-click the Google Chrome and choose Properties from the pop-up menu.
Now append the --allow-outdated-plug-ins to the end of the Target line (so it’ll look something like: C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --allow-outdated-plug-ins) and click OK. Restart Chrome and it will no longer check for deprecated plug-ins.

Since it had been working, I assume there was no change in OS or Acrobat.

  • When select for PDF reader to use automatically to open PDF files I still get the window every time I want to download a PDF file. How to prevent stopping this.

Even when I highlighted in a seperate window that I want PDF open automatically with the PDF reader I always get this confirmation window to choose from. Is there a way to stop getting this confirmation window ?
To perform a test I had with IE browser that by default selected PDF reader it does not ask me each time which option to choose from.

Could you indicate what you have selected here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type pdf and wait for the list to be filtered. On the right side, what do you have selected in the drop-downs? Do any of them behave the way you want?
If the problem only occurs on certain sites, it's possible that the site sending a generic content-type header rather than a pdf-specific content-type header. Firefox doesn't look at the file extension to decide which program to use in that case, it simply lets you choose.

  • How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader instead of google?

Firefox is unsucessfully using google to open pdf files.  How do I get firefox to open pdf files with Adobe reader?
    Message was edited by: veeryTalonted

"Google" is a search engine (website) and NOT (repeat: NOT) a PDF viewer. It can't and won't open PDFs in any real or imaginable way.
Firefox added their own proprietary PDF viewer with version 20 - they're on 21 now. I'll be the first to admit "it sucks". You CAN'T fill in PDF forms with it, and you can't email them from the page like with Opera, Safari or Chrome (which use the reader plug-in still).
Unfortunately, the ONLY option you have now that they've added it and killed the ability for the Reader plug-in to work with Firefox, is Tools>Options>Applications - select Portable Document Format(PDF) and choose "Use Adobe Reader (Default)". What that will do is FORCE Firefox to download the PDF instead of opening it in their terrible PDF viewer in the browser window.
Or... use one of the other browsers I mentioned. They're all free.
