Acrobat distiller keeps on quitting when creating pdf

Hi there, my Acrobat distiller 10 in OS X Mountain Lion keeps on quitting when creating pdf. Please help.

Hello,
1. Please try updating the Acrobat to 10.1.10 and then check the issue.
2. Go to Settings -> Font Locations. You'll see a list of sources that Distiller gets its fonts from. Make sure that the paths actually exist, delete them if they don't.
3. Try with different joboptions.

  • Acrobat 9 Quits When Create PDF from Scanner Selected

Hi. I wonder if anyone can advise please.
I have recently installed Acrobat 9 on my MacBook Pro and have plenty of RAM. However, I can "Create PDF from Scanner" just the once. After that, Acrobat quits when I select Scan or quits if I cancel the scan.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Troubleshoot System Errors & Freezes
    2. New User account
    3. Recreated Preferences
    4. Booted from separate disk
    5. Repaired disk permissions
    6. Have no third party plug-ins installed
    7. Have run Repair Acrobat
    8. Changed Universal Access
    9. Defragmented disk & repaired files
    10. Safe Boot and reinstall Acrobat
Nothing has worked except when I clean install I can scan through Acrobat once.
I can scan from the scanner software - Lexmark 4850 - with a jpeg straight to Acrobat but want to try to solve the issue of scanning straight from the app.
    Thanks for your help people.
    Regards
    Paul

After I discovered my problem of quitting after completing the scan of the first side of a 2-sided document and decided to go to Adobe for help, I should have known I was in real trouble after following their instructions for locating the Acrobat serial number. After bringing up the splash screen and clicking on it, instead of seeing the number the splash screen disappeared! So I had no option but to use the phone. Then their help person couldn't give me the serial number- he had to transfer me- and I chose to stay with him for help instead. He decided it was a conflict between the Acrobat & HP software and ended the help session.
I then did some on-line research and discovered others with the same problem, and came up with the comparison test with the Windows version. Adobe's phone system didn't recognize my Case #, but the second Help person said it worked fine. At that point, I got the feeling that I was in real trouble. After another hour going over the same ground and repeated denials that their software was at fault, the Helper refused my request that they do a Windows comparison test or send me a Windows version to test myself and promised to call me back with results of their "research". That call never came.
On the third call, again with the Case # unrecognized by the phone system, the Helper was even more unhelpful, probably after reading the record of the first two calls. He insisted on going back to the machine and over the same ground once again, and I ended the call.
I agree that the on line approach is better, and I may have to make a double call to get the serial number (neither of the two I have, each different on the case or on the CD worked) and try that if my request for a supervisor fails. Fortunately they are so incompetent that they can't track starting over.
I'm not a programmer, but have lots of varying experience with computers dating back to the first Atari-400. Since your Acrobat uses only the Twain driver component from your scanner software, the first place to look for a problem is in the Acrobat software, especially since the software doesn't run again after the first use without reinstalling, and the scanner continues to perform properly using it's installed software. The Windows comparison test such as Tim Whitfield was able to make, would clearly establish the Mac version of the Acrobat software to be at fault, but would still not resolve our problems. Unfortunately I hold out little hope for either you or I with Adobe, since neither their phone nor the online help has come up with a prior fix. This indicates a bug fix requirement, which for something like this looks to be a relatively long time in coming.

  • [AS][INDCC] How to set Color Conversion field to No Color Conversion when creating PDF Export preset

How can i set Color Conversion field in Export to PDF dialog to No Color Conversion when creating PDF Export preset? i have done a bit of searching and have found where it has been recommended to set effective pdf destination profile to use no profile but it doesn't seem to be producting the expected results.

Yes, it seems that i had to make the change after creation, not while creating the preset. thank you.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI: Error Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF File.

After installing Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 Ent. w/Office 2010.
From MS Word, select Save as PDF, I recieve "Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF file."
Any and all troubleshooting has failed.
Uninstall Acrobat, language packs, re-install, install updates, Install on fresh image.

kglad  your link refers to Windows XP. As to the rest it is questionable. First of all it would be nice to know the cause, before fixing the problem. For in some cases eliminating the cause will solve problems later on. So, in my case for ex. The problem did not exist until I protected my Word 2010 document and then saved it to PDF--which it would not allow to do so and giving the error message stated above.

  • Error message: Helvetica Medium outline font missing when creating PDF's

Error message: Helvetica Medium outline font missing when creating PDF's. Where can I downlaod it and why is it suddenly happening?

    OS? Version of ID?
This means that either you have an extra Helvetica Medium font installed and it's interfering with ID finding the T1 version, or the T1 version is damaged. I found this really old thread that explains it fairly well: http://www.asadesigner.com/22-indesign/2d812de56777cc90.htm
The good news is that it's probably only affecting the page information marks.

  • Acrobat distiller (first use) don't open PDF file what to do ?

    Hi,
Acrobat distiller (first use) don't open PDF file and give this message (in french)  : Erreur dans /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/PDFX4 2008.joboptions : /CheckCompliance out of range Avertissement : Distiller ne traite pas les extensions de fichiers .PDF ou .JDF.
    What should I do ?
    Thanks for your reply.

No, Distiller does not do that job at all. Distiller makes PDF files, but it does not read them.
I am not sure what you are using: Distiller Server is finished as a product. Distiller comes with Acrobat also - this is not Distiller Server.
Acrobat Pro includes many tools for processing PDF files and can sometimes reduce file size. It can also convert to PDFX4 using Preflighting.

  • Acrobat 9.5, file corruption when combining .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document

In Acrobat 9, when I combine .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document, there is data corruption. Some of the text appears as blank boxes when the pages are inserted into the larger .pdf, the main document. I have so far solved this by "printing" the files to .pdf, and then inserting them into the larger .pdf main document, but this creates a fatter .pdf file that is much larger than would otherwise be the case. Are there any other solutions within Acrobat 9, please? If this bug has been solved in Acrobat X or XI, please advise. Thanks.

As far as the images are concerned, that may be a result of your choice of job settings. You may want to use the Press or Print option if the image quality is important. I assume you are talking about bit images in this case.
As to the hangup, have you checked to see if AcroTray is active on your system? It may not be running as needed. In the meantime, try checking print to file and then opening that file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF.
Before you ever try a reinstall, you need to do a repair first to see if that resolves the problem. There are a lot of unknowns about your exact process for the printing and your job settings that may be part of the problem. The rest of your system setup is useful in some cases, but did not help me see your problem.

  • Acrobat Pro 7 locks up when creating a PDF

I use Acrobat Professional 7 to create PDFs from AutoCAD .dwg files. I tried making one today after not using the application for a few months and it keeps hanging up at the same point. It says "Please wait, creating Adobe PDF" with a loading bar underneath it. The bar gets to full but it never finishes and the entire application locks up.
Google hasn't revealed much information about this problem aside from clearing the temp files which didn't help. Completely uninstalling and reinstalling didn't do anything, as well as restoring to 3 months ago (furthest restore point). Any help at all would be very appreciated.

    1. Can you print to file with the Adobe PDF printer from AutoCAD? If so, can you open the file in Distiller to complete the PDF creation?
    2. If the answers in (1) are yes, then check for the running task AcroTray. If it is not running, that is likely your problem. It should be in your startup menu as a shortcut. The exe file is located in the Distiller folder.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI crashes when creating PDF from webpage.

I need to create quite a few pdfs from webpages and all of a sudden, after being completely functional, my Acrobat has begun crashing nearly 100% of the time when trying to do so.  I'm defining crashing as either completely crashing ('...has stopped working...') or freezing indefinitely, forcing me to Force Quit.  It may be worth mentioning that I am using the Mac version.  Any ideas?

The problem is likely that the web page does not conform to standard HTML. AA8 crashed on me also. You can print the file from your browser. The only thing that would be missing would be the 3 links near the bottom and they are easy to add.

  • Text dropping when creating pdf in acrobat 7 standard

This just started about a week ago. One of our user is adding pages to an existing pdf, using exisitng pdf files and new ones created from word and excel files by printing to the PDF printer. Sometimes it happens right away and sometimes it happens after a few pages are added. letters and numbers just randomly disappear from the pdf. a blank space remains in its place. If you print the document the text is missing from the print out as well. She says she hasn't done anything new or changed any settings. It just started happeneing and it happens on random files as well. I updated her to 7.1 but no deal. I tried removing it from her system and reinstalling, still hainv ghte problem. It happens on other machines as well so I think that rules out something on her machine. I've been researching it to find an answer but nothing seems to work.
I tried the suggestion of delteting the fntcache.dat file and many other things. Its causing issues in her department since she can't get this document finished. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have this same problem. I have tried with both embedded fonts and not; I get no errors.
I've tried increasing virtual memory, playing with PDF setting compatibility (6.0 to 5.0), changing my dpi settings... I've tried printing to .ps or saving directly as PDF. Nothing seems to work.
Note that in one document, I was able to solve this problem by removing and replacing an index marker, but in the document exhibiting this behavior now, there is no offending index marker.
It starts in the table of contents and drops text throughout the book.
    I am using:
    Acrobat Distiller 7.0
    Framemaker 7.0

  • Creating a pop-up in Acrobat X that is triggered when the PDF is opened.

    Hello all,
I am wanting to create  a pop-up that is triggered when the PDF is opened.
The problem I am facing is that our customers are filling out the packet , but are not using the purple "Submit" button located at the top of the page to submit the form to us. They are instead printing out the form and faxing it to us, or scanning and emailing the packet, which defeats the whole purpose of it being a fillable, distributed pdf.
The email invitation that they receive is a bit wordy so I have have pared that down as well. To be honest with the amount of "Read this first" pop ups that we are exposed to daily I think that our customers are simply not reading the instructions properly.
There was a post here in the forums but the expanation was for Acrobat 7 or 8.
    Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the quick response George. I guess a better way communicate what I need to accomplish is "how"
I went to the toolbar on the right, then "javascript", then "Document Java Scripts". That opened a window that had me name the script, then add it, then put in the scripting (see below). I do not know how to "place it in a document-level JavaScript (outside of a function definition) or in the initial page's Page Open event."
This is the script I am attempting to use.
var message = "When you have completed filling out the Tax Organizer, click on the purple "SUBMIT" button at the top of the page. This will automaticall submit your Tax Organizer for you. Be sure to print a copy for your files"
    app.alert(msg,3);
If you could provide some step by steps that would be super.
I am wanting this pop-up box to open and the client will have to then click on the "ok" button to make it dissapear so that they can then fill out the PDF.
The "Submit" button is auto created for me when I choose to distribute the form, I am unaware of any way to move it.
I feel that my issue is a elementary one, I am currently working through the Adobe Classroom in a Book lessons as all my acrobat skills have been self taught.

  • Font substitution issues when creating PDF from PS file in Distiller

I am not sure if this post should go under Distiller Server, but it dont know if there is a difference between Distiller X and Distiller Server.
Context: I am trying to convert postscript files on my PC that originate from a unique Mac built program and unfortunately receive the following error message:
%%[ Warning: Helvetica not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Warning: Helvetica-Bold not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
%%[ Warning: Helvetica-BoldOblique not found, using Font Substitution. Font cannot be embedded. ]%%
When I try and convert the postscript font to a pdf in Acrobat Distiller X the font substitutes to Arial. I have a few versions of Helvetica on my PC but Distiller doesn’t recognise them.
My question is: how can I tell Distiller, as a default, to substitute to the Helvetica loaded on my PC rather than Arial so that I eliminate the error message and get an accurate pdf.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You can set the folders in distiller by going to Settings.  See these two pictures (click on them)
    hope this helps.

  • Acrobat 9 adding odd spaces in words when creating PDF

In the process of creating a PDF from a document using Acrobat 9 Standard AND Pro, extra spaces are being inserted into the text.
I have searched everywhere for a solution. Anything I found indicated fonts should be embedded. That's not a solution as we embed all fonts used in a document. Technical notes:
using File > Print and selecting Adobe PDF as printer
job options customized to embed all fonts used in document
use of Acrobat 9 Standard and Pro - happening with both versions
no consistency in the "error" - one PDF creation of the document is mangled, then one creation of the same document is fine
    Samples attached.
    Help!

We are using Adobe FrameMaker 8.0.
Save as PDF allows us to use our job options, so we felt it wasn't any different than doing a print - are we wrong?
Create PDF not an option available with Frame docs.
Re: software conflict, could having Reader installed on our systems (Windows Vista Enterprise) provide conflict? We haven't received any sort of error messages, etc.

  • Acrobat 8.1 Crashing when creating PDF from webpage

    www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/910569/000091056909000016/form6-k15june09.htm
I have been trying to create a PDF from the above URL using Acrobat 8.1 using the "Create PDF from Web Page" function.  The Download Status form opens and shows the progress as files are downloaded and converted.  However Acrobat 8.1 always crashes before completing the task.  Acrobat 5.0 successfully completes the task although the formatting leaves a lot to be desired but that's another issue.
I've tried various values for settings such as processing 1 level or getting entire site but the crash is consistent.
I have also tried a couple of other machines in the office with the same crashed result.
Can anybody suggest why Acrobat 8.1 would fail to render this URL into a PDF and what would cause it to crash so consistently?  Is there an alternate method of creating a PDF from this URL aside from loading it into Word and printing to a PDF?
    Any clues appreciated!

The problem is likely that the web page does not conform to standard HTML. AA8 crashed on me also. You can print the file from your browser. The only thing that would be missing would be the 3 links near the bottom and they are easy to add.
