Acrobat Distiller Watched Folders

I seem to be having an issue with watched folders and the .ps or .eps files I use. I create alot of ads, and use a watched folder to create the PDFs to send to clients. The PDF's always produce properly, and replace the old versionbut the .ps or .eps files never replace with the newest version.
I may have up to 20 revisions made on 1 ad, but the .ps or .eps file will always be the original and the PDF will be current. Is there any way to have the watched folder replace the .ps or .eps files with the newest version?
Thank You

Thank you for the response. I understand that you can have Distiller delete the eps or ps after processing, but that is not my problem. The problem I have is that I may modify the eps file multiple times, and Distiller will make the eps into a PDF and the old PDF in the watched folder will be replaced, but not the EPS. I want to have both EPS and PDF be the current file and not a current PDF and an EPS from 18 versions ago. Does that make sense? I appreciate any and all help.
Thank You

  • Distiller Watched Folders not working Acrobat 9.5.2, Mountain Lion.

I have just installed Acrobat 9.5.2 on a new Mac running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Watched Folders don't work. When a .ps file is placed in the IN folder, it get processed by Distiller, but no PDF file is produced. The Distiller log window claims the PDF has been produced and placed in the Out folder, but it's not there. The .ps file is moved or deleted, depending on the setting.
PS files can be dropped onto Distiller in the normal way and PDF files are produced correctly, so it's not a problem with permissions. The problem persists in a new user account, so it's not a User pref issue.
Another Mac with the same setup works fine, so it's not a compatibility bug. I have seen only one other forum page with a similar issue, relating to Distiller 6, but it's not clear what the solution was.

Thanks for the thought. No, it's not permissions. As I say, Distiller can distill a file that is drag 'n' dropped on it from that location and it will save a PDF file to that folder.
The problem occurs even when the folders are within the user domain, where permissions should not be an issue. It also happens on folders that have full rwxrwxrwx attributes.
Watched folders work fine on another computer with the same setup, so it isn't any annoying sandboxing that is stopping everyone from doing anything -- as you say!

  • Acrobat Security Updates kill Distiller Watched Folders and Font Locations

We are finding that the usual security and other updates for
Acrobat Professional Version 7 and above are causing the Distiller
to lose specific custom settings in Watched Folders and Font

  • Acrobat Distiller Watched Folder problem with OSX 10.9

Probably not Adobe's problem but anyone else getting this?
Just upgraded to Mavericks and now when I try to print to a watched folder from Quark it keeps wanting to save the postscript file onto the desktop rather than directly into the "In" folder of the Distiller watched folder. Got so used to just hitting command/alt/p and then return.
Have recreated the watched folder just in case.
Quark 8 (ok not officially supported for OSX 10.9) but this seems more of a directory issue.
Preference is set to create postscript for later distilling and use watched folder.
    Acrobat/Distiller X 10.1.8.
Am going to post this on Quark and Apple sites.
Somebody's costing me an extra few keystrokes per job printed !!!
    Cheers.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How do I create and activate watched folders in Acrobat Pro XI?

Our court reporting firm scans large amounts of client exhibits and would love to set up watched folders to convert images to text files. I know that former versions of Acrobat had separate versions of distiller.  What's the story in Pro XI. What is the recommended way to set up watched folders, if there is one?

As with previous versions Acrobat XI comes with Distiller. As with the previous version the use features of Distiller are the same.
Do note that Distiller only accepts *.PS files as input for creation of PDF.
All scanners initial output is an image file fromat (not *.ps). Other applications take the JPEG, TIFF, etc and process the image into other file formats (e.g., PDF).
    Be well...

  • Distiller vers 7 keeps losing it's watched folders

I'm running Acrobat Distiller vers 7.07 on OSx 10.4.10
Sometimes once in a week or once in a month or once in 3 days all my watched folders just disappear from distiller.
I'm guessing it happens during shut down or start up. I only seem to notice it in the morning when I start up. It orinally happened every day with CS3 so I went back to CS2. Now it's happening in the CS2 version and it's very annoying.
Has anyone else experienced this? What was your solution?
    Thanks.

Are these volumes linked through Distiller local or thorugh a network?
Also, not blaming Acrobat 7 (too much), but in retrospect, it was not
    that great under OSX ...

  • Watched Folders in Distiller

In Acrobat Standard v9, when using Distiller, there is no "Watched Folders" option under the Settings menu.  Is this only available in the Professional versions of Acrobat?

Yes, it is only available in Pro versions.

    Distiller Server?

  • Distiller X Pro won't save watched folders

On Mac OS X 10.8.3 Distiller X Pro will not save the watched folders setting.  I can set the watched folders and it will process the files but when I close Distiller the watched folders are gone when I reopen it.
    Kent

I just uninstalled Distiller 9 Pro on my computer and now I can save the watched folder list and the entire set of settings files load when starting Distiller X.  The other computer I'm having this problem on is a new installation and has Distiller X Pro only.  It must be a permissions issue.

  • Convert ps to pdf  - watched folders process one at a time ?

does the destiller server process the watched folders one at a time or it can process several depending on the license?
i have the "normal" distiller and i have this problem, if a huge file is being converted, the other files from watched folders are not converted.

I think I found my answer at a different set of instuctions at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/using-createpdf.html.  This set of instructions clearly indicates that files will be selected 1 at a time.
    Click Combine Files To PDF.
    Click Select Files.
Select one of the files that you want to combine.
    Click Open.
Click Add Files and select additional files to combine. Click Open."
If anyone has any ideas on how to more quickly combine files, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Acrobat Distiller instances

    Hi
we use a product called Formscape that has a built in object to start Distiller and passes a PS file that converts to a PDF to a location of your choice. This works fine. We can also send PS file to a watched folder location that Distiller picks up and converts to PDF. That works fine too.
In the past, we have had Distiller running as an application monitoring watched folders and have had Formscape starting distiller automatically to create PDF's and these have both worked fine together (on the same server). For some reason now, we cannot do this. If we have Distiller running as an application and Formscape starts another instance, Formscape hangs until the timeout reaches 5 minutes and then we get an error advising the PDF could not be created.
It looks like for some reason, Distiller cannot run more than one instance - this has been tried on V5, V7 & V8. I run it locally on may laptop wioth V5 & V7 with the same results. Ideally, this needs to work on the Win2003 server where it used to work.
Any one got any ideas on this.
    Regards
    Lance

This is a license issue, not an issue of the ability of Distiller to do what you asked. That may also be why you are not getting help from others. Not using Acrobat or it's parts in a server application has been part of the license since AA5 I think. The functionality may not have changed much in terms of the ability to do it, but the EULA specifically notes it as a violation. There are options to use Distiller on a server, but this is an issue that has to be negotiated with Adobe and is not part of the standard license. For server applications, a lot of folks go to other products to produce online PDFs. You might check on some of the services that do this such as PS2PDF etc, if you want to use a server.
I may spark some comments from others, but the general use of the standard distribution of Acrobat on a server violates the EULA.

  • [JS] InDesign Watched Folders? waiting for some new document

    Hi Everyone
I wrote a script [JS][InD] which checks folders in search of any files and then process them. It mades PDF files and moves original files to a "processed" folder.
Now I want this script to run in the background by certain periods of time (i.e. 10 seconds) without user interaction. Just like the "Watched folders" function on Acrobat Distiller.
Has anybody some suggestion or solution for this?
    Thank you for your help
    Daniel

    Hi,
It's funny because I tried just right now on my own. As I was looking for help on that topic and then I saw your post :-)
The bad news is that I failed to reach that objective. My thought was to use the startup script folder placing a script that will wait for an amount of time and then check for a folder for specific files.
Alas, it seems that the "waiting" process overides Indesign  and then the user can't use its software :-(
I hope someones here as a solution.
    Bye Loic

  • How do I add the Acrobat Distiller Printer to my list of printers.

I have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 full version. I would like to know how to convert MS Works files to PDF files.
I keep getting the following message when I try to open a file as a PDF file.
When I open the MIcrsoft Works program and try to print ot the Acrobat Distiller it's not listed as you can see in the image below.
How can I had the Acrobat Distiller to my list of printers.
Please email with an answer Thanks.
    [email protected]

Well those listed files you had were of no help. I did some more searching in an system I had and found the downloaded file Acro5.0.5.exe.
I searched for instances of the word Adobe and deleted them including folders. Also cleaned the registry as well then reinstalled the software from the afore mentioned file. Then re-registered the program. Now everthing is working fine, The Acrobat Distiller Printer is now shown in Printers and Faxes Control Panel.
I did some file conversions to PDF and the distiller is now listed as a printer source in the Print Menu of the file I am converting.
    Thank for your help.
