Acrobat entangled in TCS2, won't run alone now that TCS2 trial is over

Platform: Windows Vista
Software installed and operational prior to problem: Acrobat 9, FrameMaker 9, PhotoShop, Captivate, etc.
I recently installed the trial version of the Technical Communication Suite 2 to try out this software for my company (this included special TCS versions of FrameMaker, Acrobat, RoboHelp, and Captivate). My trial period has now expired.
FrameMaker 9 and Captivate 4 work just the way it used to before the TCS 2 trial, but when I try to open Acrobat (from Program Files, from an existing PDF, or from within FrameMaker 9), I receive the following error message: "Adobe Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Adobe Acrobat, please start another component of this suite (such as Adobe Photoshop)."
I assume it is attempting to open the TCS version of Acrobat, for which the trial period has expired. But why doesn't it revert to my licensed version, as FrameMaker and Captivate did? I've tried opening Photoshop, opening FM, opening Captivate, and different methods of accessing Acrobat. No dice. I really don't want to uninstall the TCS unless I have to, since we might purchase it (and also it takes an hour to uninstall or reinstall).
Does anyone know what magic incantation I need to execute on my computer to get back to my simple Acrobat life?

I figured out the answer using this thread:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/443753
Apparently, TCS2 did uninstall my previous stand-alone version of Acrobat. I uninstalled the TCS2 version of Acrobat, which should have been enough, but Adobe products leave behind some "residue" that you can't see from the Install/Uninstall Programs dialog (at least on Windows platforms). I downloaded the Cleanup Utility and carefully deleted the extra Adobe Acrobat files that it found, and then was able to successfully install stand-alone Acrobat again. Woohoo.

I want to change my icloud id on my iPhone, but it won't let me now that i have upgraded.  I no longer have the password and the problem is It is using an old id which the email isn't valid and the security question does not think my birthday is valid.  I cannnot delete the account because "find my iphone" wants the password linked to this old account.  But when i go into the find my iphone app it is using my corect Apple ID.  How do i fix this?

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  You can now go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your correct iCloud ID and password.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to have them reset the password so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account.  You can either go to https://expresslane.apple.com, select "More Products and Services", then "Apple ID", then  on the next page select "Other Apple ID Topics", then "Lost or forgotten Apple ID password" and click "Continue"; or you can contact Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/).

  • After Win 8.1 upgrade, Acrobat 9 Pro suddenly won't run

I have Web Premium CS4, and Acrobat Pro v. 9.5.5.  I bought a new  Window 8.0 computer 90 days ago, installed the suite, activated, and everything ran fine. Yesterday, I upgraded to Win 8.1. Now, when I open Acrobat Pro, I get a pop-up message saying that it was installed as part of a suite, and to open another program in the suite first. When I click OK, Acrobat closes. I have tried opening nearly every other program in the suite (Bridge, Flash, Photoshop 64-bit), they run OK, but Acrobat will still not run, and there are no activation messages.  I checked my Adobe account, and my version of Acrobat Pro 9 is still listed, with serial number.
I'm very disappointed, as I use Acrobat Pro quite a bit, and currently it will not stay open at all. Other than telephoning Adobe for help (no free support # listed), or using on-line chat (no link available), or e-mailing them (no address listed)...what can I do to "activate" it?
I've tried opening Acrobat Distiller and get the same message, but when I close it, I see a brief flash of what appears to be an input box with activation stuff.  It only appears for half-a-second, so I cannot do anything with it.

Bill, thanks for that info. I don't think I would ever expect to get any support from Adobe on these programs, since I stopped buying revisions after CS4. I was surprised that I was even able to successfully install the CS4 Web suite onto Win 8.0, and Win 8.1 probably adds another couple hundred million lines of redundant code from our friends in Bill Gates-Land.
However, my A-Pro9 problem did resolve unexpectedly!  I tried opening all the suite's programs, one at a time, and then Acrobat, with no luck. Then I realized that the suite had installed both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Photoshop (I use the 64-bit version) onto my new 64-bit computer.  So, when I opened the *32-bit Photoshop* for a minute, closed it, and re-opened Acrobat 9, it went back to working normally.  I'll take it!

  • The update didn't update; I downloaded the whole instead as instructed and it won't run. Now what?

I am looking for advice: I wanted to update firefox - the updates (it described itself as 'security') failed. I looked on this website for advice. It said to download the whole version. I did this and the file won't run. I cannot update the browser or load on a new version.
This is raising red flags in my brain (wrongly or rightly). I know of all sorts of things I could try but having had security issues recently, I would appreciate guidance / wisdom on the matter. I may be paranoid but it looks like there is something wrong.
The old version of my browser is running ok for now.
    Please help.

    Try this:
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon
If you keep having problems then disable your anti-virus temporarily.

  • Yesterday's Acrobat 7.1.1 won't run and destroys  Acrobat

I'm running Vista Home Premium and trying to upgrade Acrobat Pro 7.0.0 to Acrobat Pro 7.1.1. The update supposedly fixes a security hole and was released yesterday, 03/18/09. Every time I try to run the update, I get "Error 1304: Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Adobe Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory."
Adobe support (800-833-6687) refuses to provide phone support for Acrobat 7 (which seems odd considering they just issued an update), but referred me to article 329117: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=329117&sliceId=2
I tried all of the solutions in this article and none of them work. Every time I try to start Acrobat, the install begins again and fails with Error 1304, so the update has effectively destroyed Acrobat Pro.
    Somebody please help me!

The update is for security purposes only. My answer about the update is in your other post about the problem. You have to install ALL the updates in order. AA7 is not certified for VISTA, but you may get it to work. If it works for you, you might be prepared for the day it seems to totally lose it - at least you will know the likely reason.

  • AppletViewer won't run an applet that runs in Internet Explorer?? Whats up?

I have an applet that I created. It runs in Internet Explorer perfectly. I mean perfectly, every single time, without a problem.
But, if I try to run appletviewer with this applet, it gives all kinds of exception messages: Ever seen this before?
    Thanks!

Why not just paste the applet code. I know it is simple, but here it is. I am new to java so you may see some weird code for sure.... It is suppose to countdown to a given date/time... Just something simple to help me learn Java.
If anyone else has time and wants to compile it and try to get it to run as an Active Desktop Item that would be super cool
    Thanks!!!!

  • Firefox won't even open now that I've installed Snagit - what can I do to fix this?

Today I bought and downloaded Snagit (TechSmith) for Macintosh. When the program was being installed it asked me if I wanted a nifty Firefox extension installed. I stupidly (as it turns out) agreed! Now, Firefox won't even open. I've tried restarting the computer and still no luck. How can I diagnose the problem with Firefox? (I know that I could just download Firefox again but I don't want to lose my many bookmarks etc.)
I opened the file in the Firefox Application folder that gives crash information and it mentioned Error Code 1?

  • MBP 13" runs hot now that I upgraded to 8GB RAM

Has anybody else experienced that their MBPro runs noticeably hotter (and noisier) since they upgraded the system RAM to 8GB?
Just throwing it out there... making sure I'm not crazy

Assuming you installed the correct RAM it probably only needs SMC & PRAM resets.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • ITunes 8 won't run on my laptop (running Vista Home Premium)

Help. Upgraded to iTunes 8 two days ago and it doesn't work. I get a message that says iTunes help module has stopped working and then a message that iTunes has experienced an error and must close (after the interim message that Windows is looking for a solution). I've tried reinstalling iTunes 8 twice with same result. It won't run and now I can't even get an older version of iTunes to install (because it says I have a "later" version already on the computer). What gives? It's very frustrating and right now I don't have a working version of iTunes! Apple folks - can you help?

Click download now and press the same button on the next screen.
The second screen will be the subscribe by email prior to download. Just press the download key to bypass.

  • HT4216 Diagnostics for iTunes for Windows when iTunes won't run at all?

I would like to run iTunes diagnostics but am unable to get iTunes to run at all.  Install and repair both report that iTunes is installed correctly.  Are there any diagnostics available where iTunes will not run at all?  Complete uninstall of all Apple products with registry wipe didn't help.

EULA! EULA! EULA!   Greetings! I had the same problem on my PC for over a year!  Itunes would download, appear to install correctly.. and then I'd get error messages about files not being found.. uninstall and start over to have the same thing happen again and again...  I finally decided that I would track down the problem and I did!!  Its very simple....
After install, a window pops up saying Itunes installed correctly. Theres a checkbox to RUN IT NOW that is checked by default.. THIS IS THE PROBLEM  It tries to force itunes to run before you accept the EULA.. Uncheck the RUN NOW box and click done or ok.. and immediately, the EULA pops up.. Accept it and then run itunes from the desktop shortcut and it should work perfectly!

  • Acrobat won't run: "open another product" message. Still won't run

    All,
I successfully installed Acrobat as part of CS4 Web Premium on a win7 64-bit system. Every time I try to run any Acrobat function like printing to pdf, openong a pdf, for example, I get a message that Acrobat was installed as part of a suite and I must start another part of the suite. I don't believe that this is the intended behavior - but if I am wrong let me know.
in all cases Acrobat takes at least two tries to open a pdf. Acrobat won't allow me to print to a pdf, even though the pdf option is listed among my printers. I document with pictures just spun the Win7 wheel for a couple of hours with nothing done. (I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL out of both Lightroom and Acrobat.)
I get this behavior even if Photoshop is already open, although I realize now that the Photoshop is CS5 and my only CS5 element (with its CS5 Bridge) among my CS4 modules.
The main trouble is that starting another application doesn't "work" - I  just tried this agin, creating a quick Word doc and trying to print it  to pdf. This time I got a new message "...Acrobat is not activated."   along with the usual "Start another program in the suite..." Activation  is not on the Acrobat Help menu.
I have a client that needs a pdf of a document made in Lightroom right away so this is so frustrating!
    Any suggestions?

    Bill,
I tried a couple of phrases and couldn't find one that pulled up solutions to this dilemma. I am open to suggestions.
I have had Adobe's tech support blow up my computer (well, not exactly blow it up, but cause me to have to reformat the whole darn thing...) so I chck here first. I also rarely can sit in my offfice for an hour or more on the phone to talk these things over with them.

Thanks for any help you can provide. This has been a VERY frustrating problem. I’ve tried manual installs on three different PCs now.
We started at 10.1.3. All Standard PCs ran the 10.1.4 patch but won’t run the 10.1.5 patch.
Acrobat Pro 10.1.4 PCs ran the 10.1.5 patch no problem.
