Acrobat Forms in Web Browsers

Hi,
I'm made a simple form for a pricelist in InDesign and exported it to PDF where I'm added some simple form actions to multiple the price by the quantity giving a subtotal, and to add the subtotals together for a grand total. It works fine in Acrobat, but not at all when viewed in a web browser. Am I missing something? Is it possible to do this?
Grateful for any pointers.
Thanks,
Nigel

To view pdf any Gecko based Browser including SeaMonkey,FireFox, Camino, Opera and others; requires use of Plugin called PDF Browser Plugin by Schubert of Germany. (does not allow fill in of Forms). It also will work with any webkit browsers Safari, iCab  OmniWeb and others.
Adobe's own Adobe PDFviewr Plugin only works Webkit only Browsers.
Adobe has been giving the one finger salute to Gecko based Browsers since the dawn of OSX.  IN OS9 any browser would work. It is hoped that support for Gecko based browsers will return with the release of Acrobat 10.
There has been enough begging by Gecko based browser Users over the years.
If not perhaps with the reported (in CNet ZDnet and Computerworld) possibility of Microsoft taking over Adobe we might get it then.

  • Viewing PDF forms created with LiveCycle in web browsers

    Hi,
We created a form in LiveCycle.  But this form is not viewable in any of our web browsers (i.e. Safari and Firefox), when using Google docs and Foxit Reader and it also does not open in Mac Preview.  I have to download it to my computer and then open it with Adobe Reader to view it. I want to make sure it has all the viewing capabilities available when I send it out to people, please let me know if there is a solution out there.
    Note:
I have updated the Adobe Reader to the latest version
I have removed all the previous versions of Adobe Reader
I have also tested it with different computers and continue to encounter the same issues.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sending PDFs without an Email Client Software installed needs to be handled at the server. Using a Microsoft .net web server, and SMTP host, you can send e-mail with PDFEmail.net. PDFEmail.net doesn't require Adobe Acrobat or Reader installed on the server, and works on remote and local web servers with access to a local or remote SMTP user account. PDFEmail.net doesn't require programming knowledge, just upload the scripts and the libraries to your webserver application root, and point the Submit URL action to the script.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Gurprit,
A null value is being passed at runtime. Make sure that you enter values when filling in the form.
Also check for the cardinality of the nodes being used. You can also initiliaze your value attributes as follows:
    In wdDoInit() method:
    wdContext.currentNodeAElement.setValueA("");
    Context is as follows:
    RootNode
      |____NodeA
            |_____ValueA
    Hope it helps.

  • Acrobat Form - SAVE AS ONLY function?

I'm making forms in Acrobat that multiple users will be accessing. Is there a way to set a SAVE AS feature so that the user can only save a copy of the form, not save over the original?

This forum is for the Adobe FormsCentral (formscentral.adobe.com) which is a service that allows you to create, collect and analyze data using an online web form. You should ask PDF related form questions in the Acrobat forums: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/forms
I'll move your post to that forum so you don't need to retype it. They can help you out...

  • Font is italicized, but only in web browsers

    Hi everyone,
I have a strange problem.  I've started work with a new inherited workstation, and my font is italicized, but only in web browsers.  And I *think* only on text that has default styling.  E.g., forms, textareas, Google search results, and other unstyled text.
Is there a system-wide setting that changes web browser text styling, or have I inherited a bizarre workstation?

One thing to check if it's only in the Browser, like Safari>Preferences>Advanced, does it have a custom css set there...

  • Simple Q. how to store/publish acrobat form and "return" as email attachment

New to acrobat.com and wondering if this can be done (with acrobat.com).
I have roughly 20 acrobat forms that I want to be accessible on the internet for about 5 specific people to access via the internet. The goal would be for them to click on the acrobat form, fill it out and then "return" it to me as an email attachment. The forms are not complex or long, typically 5 questions to respond to.
So, I signed up for the free buzz option, uploaded a pdf form and saved it in a shared workspace. I see the file (test.pdf) in the all files section. The downward-pointing triangular arrow next to the file gives me the option of open vs download vs share among other choices. I really just want to open, but when I try that it says"this file is a pdf form. Please download the file and use adobe reader to fill out the form and submit your responses". I then click download it then asks for a location (this will be a problem-source of confusion). I save it to a location but that location already has that file and wants to  overwrite it-another problem. I quickly see that this is the wrong solution for me.
So, can this be done with acrobat.com or should I be using something like dreamweaver and a personal web site? Thanks in advance.

    Hello there,
Thank you for your post. What you would like to do is most easily achieved using Acrobat desktop software; this is a well-defined workflow, using Acrobat.com to distribute forms and collect responses, and deliver these responses to the Acrobat Tracker, where you can then analyze them and sort the data. If you're on a Windows machine, I recommend downloading a free 30-day trial of Acrobat Pro software, which you can get here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/tryout.html
(Unfortunately, there is no trial available for Mac at this time.)
Beyond that, there really isn't a more streamlined way to collect form responses with Acrobat.com; the Acrobat workflow works very well, however, and I encourage you to give it a shot. Here's a video that illustrates how it works:
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter/video_workshop/?id=vid0348
Please let me know if you have any further questions about Acrobat.com, and I will be happy to answer them for you.
    Best regards,
    Rebecca

  • Adobe Interactive Forms without Web Dynpro and ACF???

Hi All, we would like to build an interactive forms solution based on the Adobe software integrated into WAS. However, the customer requires a true thin client application with no additional installation on the client. Integrating Adobe Interactive Forms into Web DynPro however requires the Active Component Framework (ACF) to be installed since these forms are integrated into the page within an ActiveX container.
So the question is whether there is a way to use Adobe Interactive forms including the Adobe Documents Service within WAS but without(!) using Web Dynpro?(the full blown Adobe LifCycle Forms solution is not an option). Any suggestions on this are highly appreciated!
    Tanks!

    Hello everyone,
I would like to add a couple of points from the SAP Product Management perspective.
Adobe has a number of stand-alone products that are the foundation for what SAP can now offer thanks to our partnership. This is exactly why we decided on a partnership that provides us with established technology, which is now integrated.
It is true that Web Dynpro is the main SAP way of integrating the interactive functions of the solution. We made this decision consciously, because the development and run-time environments provide very useful features that reduce the need for manual coding, such as the possibility of passing the data back to the backend using the Web Dynpro context. The automatism we offer here needs to be implemented from scratch with any other solution, including the Adobe stand-alone one.
While it is true that the ACF constitutes a certain limitation for the reasons you mention, Adobe will remedy this in 2005. The Reader/Web Dynpro integration will be available later this year for multiple platforms (OS, browsers) and will not require ACF anymore.
If you do not want to use a full-blown Web Dynpro application for your concrete scenario, consider developing an application that provides nothing but the interactive PDF form to the end user, to be filled in using the stand-alone Reader. The submit of the form data (with or without the PDF itself) could then happen via HTTP or e-mail.
    Kind regards,
    Markus Meisl

  • Acrobat form submit automatically bypassing Outlook?

We are using Acrobat 9 Professional, Office Standard 2007, Windows XP and some PC's have Windows 7
We created a fillable Acrobat form with a submit buttom. Everything is working as expected - thank goodness. We are able to complete the form, the submit button then runs a java script that creates an Outlook email, populates the email header To field, subject, text in the body of the message and adds the completed PDF as an attachment.
Now we are interested in eliminating the last step: Send the Outlook email. Anyway to get Outlook to automatically send the email without input from the end user?
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

With the barest spattering of PHP it's not difficult at all - see my segment in AUCTV:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/acrobat-community-tv/working-with-form-data/
    Test Screen Name wrote:
Submission should be to a program on a web server, just like every web site does. A web programmer is needed to create this script, so it is a much more complex process than we'd all like it to be. Thank the spammers for that.

  • Problems processing Acrobat forms with PHP

It's a real simple script. All we do is have users fill out a
form with information and it's sent to a php file on the server,
which then sends an e-mail to the admin with the user's input then
sends a thank you e-mail to the user. I used regular web forms
using the post method with input tags. The php code recognized the
values of regular htm forms, but we are converting all of our forms
    to PDF.
I am having problems with Acrobat form submission. I tried
sending the data using the http submit/post, but I cannot figure
out how to stop it from displaying the user input inline (ie.
    name=nameaddress=addresscity=citystate=state). Our clients cannot
receive e-mails with everything inline like that. I cannot send it
using mailto: or by the default e-mail either because the clients
    cannot receive attachments.
I heard that sending the form via xml and parsing it would
work, but when I use the parser it needs the exact .xml file name
and every time someone submits a form the file name changes.
Does anyone know how to use the http submit method in acrobat
and stop the text from displaying inline, how to parse the xml, or
of any other ways that will make the text display correctly?

Please post to the correct forums. At least 2 other
duplicates of this post are also in the Connect forums, which are
    wholly unrelated to PDF topics.

  • Acrobat Forms Question - Secure Form Handling

I'll preface this post by saying I'm not a designer nor have I ever designed an Acrobat form.  If the following is possible, I'll probably have to find a developer to do it for me.
I have a small business that needs to receive and pass around by email a completed Acrobat form with sensitive personal data in it.  I want to know if it's possible to do the following:
User goes online and opens the form with Acrobat Reader (assume Windows and Mac platform users).
User enters the data required in the form.
When data entry is complete, user clicks a button toward the bottom of the form that applies a predetermined password to the form.  I predetermine the password and it will be coded into the form.  The password will be required to open and print.  Ideally two passwords exist each with a different security level.  One allows only to open and read the completed form.  The other password allows opening and printing.
Once the form is password protected, they can then click a button in the form to email it to a predetermined email address.
Again, assume the user entering the data into the form only has Reader, not full Acrobat.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.
    Andrew

No, not all of that is possible, not even with Acrobat. When you have to transmit data securely without the user somehow encrypting the data, it's easiest to get a web server involved. The data can be securely transmitted (via HTPS/SSL) and stored, but it does involve a bit of server-side programming as well as setting up the form. You also have the option of just transmitting the form data, as opposed to the entire PDF. When you transmit the entire PDF with Reader, the document has to be Reader-enabled, which comes with licensing restrictions on the number of times you can use data from a particular form. This is not an issue when just sending the form data, which can be imported by you into a blank form whenever needed.

i want to load oracle forms on to the web. i have installed web db, and have forms and my listener is web db listener. i want to load .fmx files on to the web.. can some one help, through a step by step process. data et all are present in some other username and not the default webdb user. is it necessary to install the packages in that user also.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Joseph Schwertner ([email protected]):
It is good that the Forms are developped for Forms 5. The first step is install Forms 6i and Reports
6i. After that simply compile the forms. They will run without modifications on 6i. Nevertheless may
be small surprises will arrise, but they are not major and soon you will have workung system in 6i.
Now you have to enter in another world. You have to switch from 2 tier architechture to 4 tier one.
But this is not so hard. I did this in November 2000 and 3-4 developers in the world succeed to do the
    same following the instruction.
At first you have to download the 2 more important Oracle documents from the OTN:"Deploying Forms Applications
to the WEB with Forms server Release 6i", "Publishing Reports". Read them carefully. After that decide
which WEB Server will you use. You can use full functions WEB servers (OAS 9i, other) or only for your
Forms you can simply download from the Forms Server 6i CD the WebDB listener which will act as limited
WEB Server. I use the last option.
The next step is to install Forms Server 6i (possibly with WEBDB listener). After that make visible
on the Internet/Intranet the computer on which the Web listener is installed (with Forms server).
Now you have the adjust the settings of your machine. Follow the instruction in the above mentioned
documents. Everything is well described. After adjustment the settings you have to create your "Unternet
access paths". This will be done in the config file of your listener. You have to map the virtual to
the physical directories. This is the souce of most mistakes. Spo I wiil give an example:
    In the URL call: http://bigbluenew.drila.us/dev60cgi/ifcgi60.exe?config=hris
    /dev60cgi/ is virtual directory.
The mappings to the phisical one are stored as part of the text file webdsvr.cfg:
    [DirMaps]
    D:\Forms_Home\tools\web60\html\ /dev60html/
    D:\Forms_Home\webdb\images /images/
    D:\Forms_Home\forms60\java /forms60java/
    D:\Forms_Home\forms60\java /form60code/
    D:\Forms_Home\jinit817 /jinitiator/
    D:\Forms_Home\tools\web60\temp /dev60temp/
    D:\Forms_Home\Forms60\web_reps\ /web_reps/
    D:\Forms_Home\forms60\java\oracle\ewt\laf\generic\images /f60image/
    [CGIDirMaps]
    D:\Forms_Home\tools\web60\cgi\ /dev60cgi/
    D:\Forms_Home\tools\web60\cgi\ /cgi-bin/
The most common mistake causes the entry
    D:\Forms_Home\forms60\java /forms60java/
This is the first steps you have to do. Alla are described in the both documents above.
Now you have to think about the client site - the WEB browser. Oracle runs forms on browsers using an
applet - Java programm running on the browser. This is very disapointing - the details will be given
in the third message. To improve things from the very beginning download the Jinitiator from Forms site
in the OTN - the latest version 1.1.8.10. It is fixed! Other have bugs. More bugs than this one :)!!!
Now you have to prepare pshycologically to speak with boses and users. The problem is the significant
loading time for every browser. At first run the browser will download about 10MB software (the Jinitiator
software). After that every time one call forms has to wait 15-40 seconds (comparisons of version the
jar files with the version on the server, loading images, etc.) The good news is they are cached on
the browser. After this delay deliver to your users a functiuonality that is significant better then
that one delivered by pure HTML and Java, the transfer of packets is lower, the whole Windows GUI functionality
    is abailable.
All problems here are caused because now you will run the Forms in 4 tier architecture:
web browser <-> web listener <-> forms server <-> Oracle server
Also your forms will use a slower connection media - Internet/Intranet. To be well prepared read the
discussion I post in the third me ssage.
There are plenty of working forms applications on the web, but they aren't for public use. Companies
use web forms as a way to let employees use the apps off-site. For these people, the overhead is not
so great. Also, the math for the system load is not so brutal - A dual processor Unix box with 2GB of
memory can handle about 200-400 simulataneous users. More than that and the system crawls to a stop.
Not a good thing for a public site.
If you want to deploy an Oracle-based app on the web for a wide audience, use a standard tool - JSP's,
    ColdFusion, ASP's or the like.
    John Alexander www.summitsoftwaredesign.com
    Joseph Schwertner
    [email protected]
    Friends,
Let us speak about Forms on WEB. I just set in "production" the "Personell system" of my company. It
is available only on Intranet, you cant use it. but the conclusions are interesting.
The main conclusion is: it works. The overhead exists (too much loading time at the beginning of the
sesion). Another disadvantages: record navigation in multirecord blocks is confusing - very often the
form looses the control over the navigation with mouse clicks. So I put the standard button "Next record"
on the toolbar and recommend to use it. Also there are difficulties with iconic buttons - the images
are not available, but I know what to do.
But there are big advantages. First at all the users have the whole Windows functionality in a WEB apllication
    - mouse clicks, tabs, multiwindows, the advanced Oracle Forms access to the Oracle DB. This is not the
limited WEB page application, slow, stupid (from DB view of point of course). Also I would like to say
that I succeed to make the application very fast and easy. My colleagues who make WEB apps using HTML
and Java need as rule 5-6 men team to do the same. Of course it was not easy to learn how to deal with
Forms Server and with Reports Server. So Forms really is a RAD.
As Mr. Alexander said Forms of the WEB are used in the so called "Back Office" implementations - for
supporting the infrastructure of big enterprises. They are not approprite for random user access - the
    overhead is to big.
The next advantage of Forms on the WEB is that you escape the Forms Client instalation on every user
station. You avoid to declare a remote directory with .fmx, to share the username/password/host with
user. The only thing you do is to publish the URL. This is a big advantage.
About the overhead. In "old" environment (DB listener, Forms Server in the Forms Toolkit) the application
really runs slow 9at the beginning of the sesion). But I sow apps based on iOAS9i and the integrated
there Forms Server. They were fantastic fast (the overhead was 5 secs in comparison with the 40 secs
    on my computer).
I think that Oracle is doing the best to improve the functionality of Forms server. So now there are
some disadvanteges of this technology, but I optimistically hope that in the next version there will
    be enhancements.
    Maur?cio Pacheco ([email protected])
Joseph is right and I would like to add
    two things :
    - Although there is some overhead in starting
Forms Server (let's say 20-40 seconds) the
usage is much faster than any HTML
application. Try to create in ASP a dynamic
page to query a table in tabular form with
page navigation (one of many examples).
While Forms needs 2 network packets, HTML
needs 15 (obvious because the data we see
is only a small part of the page, the rest
    are tags, formatting information, scripts,
etc). This comparison was made with the
same table, showing the same columns and
with the same records/page. WEB Forms seems
slow but in fact is faster than HTML
because the GUI frame runs on the client.
    - In one occasion there was an international
competition to create a WEB application
    for product catalog (reports, queries,
    maintenances, drawings, etc). While with
Forms we took 1 week (1 developer) the
fastest competitor took 3+ months (3
    developers)! And worst, the user
    functionality regarding complex queries and
reporting was far better in Forms than
the competitor's tool (I am not going to
give names). Perhaps this was a matter of
training but Forms is really fast to
    develop database applications. If
    productivity, simplicity, database
    performance, data integrity and user
functionality is not important don't use
    Forms.
Once more, Forms was not projected for public
    sites where multimedia content and
presentation is required. It was projected
    for authenticated database applications,
to handle and present data and to reduce
    development and maintenance time.
Now I hope you have enough knowledge to begin to embed your forms on the WEB. It is easy, but you have
    to obtain some new knowledge.
    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
thanks joseph. will try it and let you know at the earliest.

  • Help with complex Acrobat forms

    Hi Everyone,
Background: I worked with another developer and completed a form for one of our clients but I need to know if the below change requests are even possible and if so if anyone would like to help with finishing the form. I am definitely willing to pay for an experts services as long as this can be done in a timely manner.
What the form is - Our client wants a form that has text fields, drop down boxes and pages where images can be placed into the file and arrows drawn on it to point where the images are located on other images (some images are store layout maps). They would like to send this file out to their store managers, have them fill it in and then they would like the completed forms sent back so all of the information that was filled in (names, store names, addresses, square footage, etc) can be gathered into a database or excel file.
    What is completed so far
    - Cascading drop down boxes (user clicks on first drop down and whatever is selected changes the second drop down options, etc)
    - Most of the text fields for information gathering including city, state, store manager etc
    - Metric unit conversion boxes
    - Header text fields (read only) are used on several of the pages and are a combination of choices made in the drop down boxes and text fields.
    - Page footer info including page number
    - The over all layout of the pages is set
    Requested changes/additions
    Major must have:
    - Page Addition - There is a product page in the form (page 10) and the different stores will have a different number of these products to enter into the form so is there a way to add an ADD PAGE button on the page that when pressed will copy the product page to make a new product page? Now the product page has cascading drop down form fields on it so I would want to make sure the form fields are separate iterations of the form fields not just a duplicate of what was on the product page.
    - Footer adjustments - If we can do the above of adding pages then is it possible to at that point adjust the footer to reflect the page number changes? The footer shows the current page number then the form name and date.
    - Gather info - What is the best way to distribute these forms so that when returned completed the information can be gathered? I tried distributing via email which seems to work ok but the files might end up being too large for email so what is the best way to gather the completed info if say the files were ftp'd back?
    Minor:
There are several minor change requests that I know are doable or that if not possible we can disregard. One that I am not sure about is if the color of the arrows in Acrobat can be changed from the default red?
At first I was assuming that the Clients that get the forms needed Acrobat Standard or Pro 8 or 9 because I thought that the only way to add images was to use the Touch-Up Tool under advanced tools and right click to Place images. However I am pretty sure that if Reader Rights is enabled that images can be copy pasted into the file too if this is incorrect please let me know.
If the above is not doable or if there is a better solution other than Acrobat forms to gather client information including allow the client to add images and place arrows then please let me know your thoughts.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and again id like to commission this out to anyone who is up for the challenge.
    Thanks in advance
    Jason
