Acrobat has taken over opening PDF in Safari. How do I stop this?

Preview has always been the engine that Safari used to open PDF in the browswer. Acorbat took over today for unknown reasons to me. How can I switch it back?

No Acroabat at all. Now what?
#%&*#$% Adobe! Sorry. I forget how invasive it is.
In Finder, choose Go > Go to folder.. and type "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins" and press enter. Your PDF plug in should be there. Get rid of it. You will need administrator credentials.

  • I installed 4Sync on my computer, and it resets my browser constantly. Even when I set my browser back to FireFox Start Page it just switches it back the next time I open a browser. How can I stop this please??

I installed 4Sync when I was trying to find a download for a song and it has hijacked my browser completely. It always tries to set my default home page back to the 4Sync Homepage, but I do not want this. I even change it back and save the settings, but it just comes back and does it again in a few clicks. I feel like it has completely taken over Firefox and that it will always be my start page now, instead of the Firefox Google search page I normally use. I need to stop this because it is frustrating me. There is no new plugins or extensions installed on my browser, I just don't get it. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!

Same issue for me, no settings or options config changes this
I also tried a roll back to 3.16 and the problem is there too now, so its something in the general mozilla files
dont fancy a full uninstall and delete of anything mozilla, but i wont be using this if it continues

  • When I close Firefox another Firefox browser opens. WHY and how do I stop this?

Every time I close Firefox another Firefox browser opens. Then I close that one and it stays closed. How do I stop it from opening a new Firefox browser on it's own?

Is it possible that you actually have two Firefox windows open and Windows 7 is showing one Firefox on the System task bar, but if you were wave mouse over that, you might see two windows.
To Close Firefox use File > Exit (Alt+F > Exit)
and not the X in the upper right corner which only closes the Window and may or may not close Firefox if it is the last window. The reason it does not always close Firefox is that there may be other tasks running so you don't see Firefox anywhere but in the System Task Manager on the Processes Tab which is where you can see if firefox.exe is running or not. Shortcut to Task Manager on Windows 7 is Ctrl+Shift+Esc (for other Windows systems Ctrl+Alt+Del , select Task Manager,...)

  • Adobe PDF writer has taken over my computer for documents, how do I change it back to Safari PDF ?

How do I change back to Safari PDF viewer and get rid of Adobe?

Find a PDF file in the Finder, select it and go File > Get Info. Find the Open With section and change the application from Adobe Reader (?) to whatever other PDF viewing app you prefer (Safari.app?). Click on the button that activates in that section (Change All...) and say Yes to making every PDF open with the new option your choose.
In my opinion, viewing PDFs posted on websites in Safari is fine, but viewing PDFs downloaded or that reside on your iMac are better suited to being viewed using Adobe Reader (though you might not be used to what it does), or Preview. You should explore what they have to offer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Acrobat freezes when I OCR pdf files.  How do I fix this?!?

I just downloaded Adobe Acrobat 11 yesterday onto my MacBook Air. When I try to OCR documents Abobe semi-freezes, meaning that it won't let me save what it has just OCR'd, it won't let me close, it won't even let me minimize the window.  I say "semi-freezes" because it actually does ask me if I want to "save," but trying to do that, or trying to decline to do that and close, is futile. The only way I can get out of this is to shut the computer down completely and then turn it back on again.  This is a disaster because 90% of my job involves working with PDF files and I can't work unless I can OCR these documents.  They are numerous, voluminous, and use many complex terms.
Please give me step-by-step instructions as to how to fix this, and please assume I know absolutely ZERO technical things about computers.  Many thanks.  Pete

I have used Acrobat 11 on a Macbook Air using both OX X,9 and X.10 without issue. Can I ask which version of Acrobat 11 you are using and what version of OS X? Additionally, are you seeing a freeze or a spinning pizza wheel of death. I have an older machine in which the spinning pizza wheel occurs whenever it feels like and I can wait for minutes before it returns control to me.

  • When select for PDF reader to use automatically to open PDF files I still get the window every time I want to download a PDF file. How to prevent stopping this.

Even when I highlighted in a seperate window that I want PDF open automatically with the PDF reader I always get this confirmation window to choose from. Is there a way to stop getting this confirmation window ?
To perform a test I had with IE browser that by default selected PDF reader it does not ask me each time which option to choose from.

Could you indicate what you have selected here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type pdf and wait for the list to be filtered. On the right side, what do you have selected in the drop-downs? Do any of them behave the way you want?
If the problem only occurs on certain sites, it's possible that the site sending a generic content-type header rather than a pdf-specific content-type header. Firefox doesn't look at the file extension to decide which program to use in that case, it simply lets you choose.

  • When I open a page from an email document it opens in Internet Explorer - how can I stop this?

  • My MacBook prints documents every time I open it up. How can I stop this?

My macbook likes to print my most recently printed documents over again every time I open it up.

Try opening the print queue and deleting the document.  If that does not work delete the printer from the printer list and reÏnstall it.
In Mavericks that is found at
 > System Preferences > Printers and Scanners > Open Print Queue
I suspect it is the same in older OS X versions.

  • A website I opened now always appears when I open Firefox. 1.How can I stop this? 2.How can I eliminate urls I no longer nris?

    I have a Motorola Droidx.
Re Question 2, I just don't want to have to wait through every word I haven't looked up on dictionary.com to find a site I looked up yesterday that was interesting but not interesting enough to bookmark.

You can set the Firefox home page by opening the menu key, selecting preferences, then use the 'Start page' drop down menu to chose the option you want.
Firefox mobile does not have a way to remove select URLs from the History. Just the global clear private data button. There are extensions that will allow you to clear just history or cookies but that is not quite what you want.

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder and desktop shortcut before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 23.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • I recently updated Firefox and something called Fantistic Games has taken over my homepage and I can't get rid of it.

I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".

This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
    # At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
    # In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
    # Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
    # Click the remove button.
    # Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

    Thanks for any help.
