Acrobat Help | Edit images or objects in a PDF

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/edit-images-or-objects-pdf.html

WHEN I ADD AN IMAGE INTO A .PDF THE GRIP HANDLES DO NOT ALLOW ME TO RESIZE THE IMAGE.
INSTEAD I GET BLUE LINES ALONG THE SIDE THAT I CLICK ON AND THE WHOLE IMAGE MOVES WITHOUT RESIZING.
IT WORKED PROPERLY A FEW DAYS AGO NOW I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG.
THANKS, PETER

You would use one of the graphics tools to cover up what you do not want. You have to then use the redax tool to remove what is hidden -- or at least that is my understanding of what you would be doing.
Actually, you would use the "mark for redaction" tool to highlight text or draw boxes around the areas you want to redact. Then you click on "apply redactions". You may then be greeted by a dialog asking if you want to get rid of some back end information related to what you redacted (like metadata, file attachments, bookmarks...etc).
It's very thorough so you'd probably want to run it ion a copy of a file until you get the hang of it.

  • Can I add or edit images in a Reader Extended PDF?

Can a Acrobat Reader add or update an image in a Reader Extended editable pdf?

    Hi tms5656,
Adding or editing an image isn't something that you can do in Adobe Reader, whether the PDF is Reader Extended, or not. But, you can do that in Acrobat. And, you're welcome to try Acrobat for free for 30 days, if you would like. See www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.

  • Scripting help for image pop-up within a PDF

    Hi,
I'm creating some sample eBooks in Acrobat Professional 9 (Mac), and I am stuck on one element that needs to be present. In the text within the PDF, there might be a phrase like, "See Fig. 1". Fig. 1 might not be on that page, however. I know how to create a link in a PDF that will navigate the reader to the page with the image referenced, but that's not good enough. I'd like to have this happen:
User clicks on "See Fig. 1".
Popup window appears with the referenced thumbnail image.
The image's popup window will stay on-screen until dismissed by the user.
Clicking on the popup thumbnail image calls up a full-size image.
The added wrinkles are many after we figure out the scripting for the above, but here are two major ones to be addressed right away:
    1) The images are already part of the typeset document converted to PDF, so I am guessing the images would have to be bundled with the PDF somehow. Our users need to use the PDFs in an offline environment, so a call-out to a URL is out of the question.
    2) The PDFs will be read on Macs, PCs, and possibly iPads. If a bundled, local file is called out when a user clicks on "See Fig. 1", how do I set a relative filepath in the call-out?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Andrew

Here's a sample document that demonstrates some of what you're asking about: https://acrobat.com/#d=aP-2xL45pM57xVkT6d6fSg
The images are stored in buttons, so there is no concern about having to use external images. Note that this may not work on an iPad since most (all?) PDF viewers on the iPad do not have JavaScript support.

  • Edit or deleting text in a pdf document.

I'm trying to edit text in a pdf file, If i delete a line the the document backs up and i end up with text over the top of text....can anyone tell me how to edit or delete text in a document without everything around it moving up or down?

Realistically, that's just how it is. Text in a PDF file (unless it's very well-structured at the creation stage) is not laid out in a flowable 'story' as it is in Word, but is scattered about all over the place. Two lines of the same paragraph don't necessarily have to be connected, so deleting / adding a line break will often result in the remaining content moving about all over the place.
The best approach is to edit the original file and recreate the PDF, but if that's not an option then it gets messy. You may be able to open the page in Illustrator (where you could edit the text objects and reposition them if things act strangely) but that will break any interactivity or accessibility so is only a sensible option if the resulting PDF is only destined to be printed out.
If the page layout is relatively-simple, try exporting the PDF to Word (from Acrobat Pro), editing it and re-saving to PDF. Again it will lose any interactivity, but during the Save As step, Acrobat will try and guess the flow of the page content from where each item is positioned.

  • Help - Finding images that I've edited

    Hi again,
This is a contination of a prior post, but has narrowed in scope.  I have a case open with Adobe realted to my catalog going haywire at some point in the past (longer ago than my oldest catalog BU). In my dealings with Adobe on this now almost 2 month old case several things have been tried. Some have helped for some of the symptoms but we're left with one remaining problem.
At this time the catalog has lost track of the CR2 half of CR2+JPG combos. The physical CR2 files are still on my HD, just the catalog now only knows about the JPG where in the past the catalog had showed CR2+RAW for those images.  I'm not going to go into all the gory details, but it looks like for situaitons where I had applied edits to my CR2+JPG combos before the catalog lost track of the CR2's, those edits are now showing on the remaining JPG (as the CR2 is no longer known to the catalog) and I need to get those edits over to the corresponding CR2 which I can re-import. So far Adobe has not been able to suggest anyting other than importing the CR2 (after setting the catalog preference to treat RAW next to JPG as seperate images) then copying the history from the JPG to the CRW one by one which is not a very exciting thought.
I have over 22,000 images in the catalog, of which, maybe 15,000 were victims of the catalog problem that lost the CR2's. What I don't know is how many, and which, photos in the catalog are lone JPG's (ie are not part of a CR2+JPG combo) and have had one or more edits applied to the image. If that number is manageable I can copy the edits one by one. If that number is too large, then I need to keep encouraging Adobe to give me a way to do this.
So, can one of you experts come up with a filter or smart collection method of isolating the lone JPG images (not CR2+JPG combos) where there are edits showing in the history. The filter or smart collection should only consider real updates and ignore history entries such as those that start with "Update to current process", "export to....", "Import...", "Publish...", Etc.
    Thanks -- Dan

    Hi Beat,
The plugin you suggested was looking real good till I got to a FAQ on their web page stating that "History Steps" are not copied.  Oops, that's what I'm really after.   I guess just the final edited image pixels are copied rather than the edit stps.
    Thanks for the thought.
    Dan

  • I downloaded LR for MAC when my free trial ended.  But - I get a "renew your membership to reactivate the develop module" when I try to edit images.  Help!

If you purchased the Perpetual Licensed version of Lightroom and received a 24 numeric serial number you will have to download the correct version from the link below.
Before doing the new installation you will have to uninstall the existing version from your computer (it is the Creative Cloud version) since it is requesting you to "renew your membership" . This process will not interfere with your Catalog file, Preferences or your personal files, it will just remove the existing application. Both versions are the same application just a different download and activation process.
Reboot your system then run the install of the Perpetual License download and input the serial number to activate. Things should be fine.

More information about this issue can be found here:

A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • ACROBAT CS3 EDITING CONTENT PROBLEM

When I click on an object with the TOUCH UP OBJECT TOOL in an Acrobat file and right click and EDIT IMAGE it opens Photoshop for bitmaps and Illustrater for vector graphics as it used to in CS2, however when I have finished editing the object and close the window in Photoshop or Illustrater it asks me to save the altered image back to the hard disk not to update the image in Acrobat as it did in CS2. This makes it impossible to edit any of the content of a PDF in a seperate program without alot of hassle. I have searched the menus and preferances but cannot find any settings to alter to get it to work.
Is there something I am missing or is it a problem with CS3?

This means that a necessary Photoshop plug-in (perhaps Illustrator
too) has gone missing. Try Repair from the Help menu in Acrobat.

  • "Acrobat.exe- Bad Image" error message, Can't open anything with Acrobat

    I have Acrobat Pro 9.0
    OS Windows 7
Just started having this error problem show up within the past couple weeks.
Every time I try to open a document the browser freezes up for a few minutes (and I've tried on two different browsers), wont load the page, then I get this message:
    Acrobat.exe - Bad Image
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\ Acrobat\BIB.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
I have had this program for several months and never had an issue.
Haven't changed anything I can think of...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
I also tried just opening the program directly and got the same message.

My Acrobat 9 Pro freezes constantly. Seeing a pdf inside mutiple browser is not possible. Most of the time Acrobat 9 Pro and Acrobat Reader X starts within 5 min! As soon as I do anything, the top bar that shows "File", "Edit" etc. dissapears and averything freezes! Security software with possible firewalls I've uninstalled. Un- and re-installing Acrobat doesn't change anything. I'm using MS Windows XP, running Adobe CS4. Making any pdf's is no problem. I just can't see them. I can open a pdf inside Illustrator but that goes page by page. Any help?

  • Edit Image

I recently added Adobe Acrobat 9.0 (standard) and want to know how to get "Edit Image" tool to appear?

To get to the "Edit Image" facility with Pro / Pro Extended -
From the Menu bar, look for Tools > Advanced Editing > TouchUp Object tool.
With this tool in use and focus placed on an image right click for the context menu.
    Select "Edit Image".
If available with Standard, the click path ought to be the same/similar.
If, in Acrobat Preferences, an image editor has been selected (in the TouchUp category) then the editor opens the image.
Edits, when done, are present in the image on the PDF page.
If PhotoShop is installed then Acrobat will use it as the default.
    Be well...

  • Editing images in Adobe Reader

I have set up a form template in Indesign, using form fields, so that customers can edit their contact information and image.  I know that you can edit this information in Acrobat, but is it possible to edit these things in Adobe Reader?  I have opened the document in Reader, but it looks like I can only edit the text.  My main question is this:  is it possible to edit the images in Reader like you can in Acrobat?  Thanks for any help.

    HI kyleatpulp
Adobe Reader is a free product to view PDF files only, You cannot edit files using Adobe Reader. Please use acrobat to edit the pdf files.

  • "You are not authorized to edit the chosen object" in LWE

    Hello gurus,
I want to edit the standard HTML content that is delivered with Life and work events. Before editing this, i want to copy the ESS HTML content package to a custom folder and then edit and modify as per my requirements. i navigated to Life an work events - US --> HTML content --> Content Package --> ESS HTML Content Package and clicked on Open. I am getting the error "You are not authorized to edit the chosen object".
How do I access this content without any error? Do I need any specific roles to be able to access this content? i need to access this content to be able to copy and paste it to a custom folder.
Also, when I tried copying at the ESS HTML content Package level and then pasting it into a custom folder, i get a popup with all empty rows and columns and there are two buttons OK and CANCEL.
How do I copy this ESS HTML content package to a custom location?
    please suggest .
An update: Since I could not open/edit the standard ess html content package, I created my own HTML files from scratch and created a content package and uploaded my html files and folders into the custom content package. Now, I want one of the pages that I created to be displayed as the start page of one of my life and work events.
How do I achieve this? What else is needed to call these html pages from the event?
Please suggest and any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hello Maria,
I too tried earlier for copying these HTML content and paste them in my custom folder and then modify them....
But I too faced the similar error as of yours.
I dont' know the reason why this happens....I guess SAP does not allow you to modify there content.
Nyways, there is always a workaround solution....
You are spot on when you say...You are creating new HTML files from scratch.....but you dont' need to create from scratch !!
You can still get these files.
    1. Check Directory Structure : Navigate to Life and work events - US folder in GP design time -> HTML Content -> Content Package ->  ESS HTML Content Package and click on "Open" then click on content tab..
Here you can view all the content files supplied....additionally please note that there are two folders "CSS" and "Images".
If you wish to create your own content from modification to SAP supplied content...then make sure in your own package these folders are also with similar directory structure.
    2. Come out of gallery and as an end user Open your life and work events page that you wish to modify.
For e.g. ESS -> Life and Work events -> My First Days -> New Hire Checklist.
    3. Right click on HTML page and click on Properties.
    4. Copy the Address/URL of page.
It will be something like :
    http://Host:Port/gpcore/ctpkg/094BABAA643911E091070000014B8BFA/NewHireCheckList.html
    5. Access above URL directly from Browser (In new window)  and refresh that opened page. Check that all the content is visible and in correct font and format.
    6. Click on "Page" -> Save As...from your browser tool bar.
    7. From "Save as type" select HTML complete....
    and save the page.
    8. As a result you will get an HTML file and a folder.
Inside the folder there will be your images and CSS....Now you know how to make your own content.......
Very Important : Please note that directory structure of your CSS images and HTML must be similar to what you                 saw in point 1.
And you can easily modify your content...accordingly...
Now the second part of your question :
"Now, I want one of the pages that I created to be displayed as the start page of one of my life and work events. "
I hope you refer to something that is given by SAP in the form of " ESS -> Life and Work events -> My First Days -> New Hire Checklist"..
As you can see "New hire checklist" is the First link available under My first days...thus by default it gets displayed when user clicks on "My first days"....
Is this that you want to mimic ?
Well for that your process in GP design time must look like this :
    http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/7/imageqw.png
For eg. Create a new callable object with name "New Hire Checklist" of type : "Content package"..
Wizard will help you with the rest.
Revert back if you face any issues.
