Acrobat is gettign on my last nerve

Sorry for the flippant heading, but it accurately summarizes my mental status.
I've been blithely creating PDFs of my Word documents (all very similar) for 5 months, using the same preferences, without incident. Then I create this one PDF and the hyperlinks don't work--they show up in the PDF in hyperlink for (blue, underlined) but neither mousing over them nor clcking on them does anything.
I then find formatting errors and some typos in the Word file and fix those. Now when I try to generate the PDF, Word crashes and I get a suggestion that I should disable the Acrobat add-in. I went through all the machinations of disabling it, deleting it, reinstalling it, and even having Office 2007 and Acrobat 9 Pro reinstalled by our company IT geeks.  The problem still happens with this one doc. I've copied the whole doc (except the last paragraph symbol) into a new doc and tried again--another crash.
I imagien there could be two solutions to thsi problem. One would be for someotn to tell me what I can do with an existing PDF to make the hyperlinks function as hyperlinks should.   the second would be for soneone to shed some light on what formatting or content in my Word doc could be so grievous as to cause the whole thing to go to hell as the PDF creation is in process.
Another word on the PDF creation--I can see it scan down and up, and find all the bookmarks, and then the progress dialog box shows it chugging along until it's up to the halfwy point, then it blows up. I'm in despair. Any help would be much appreciated. TIA

You don't exactly say... if you are using the command bar option to create the PDF, try using the Print and select Acrobat PDF as the printer... or the reverse
I use Excel 2007 and Acrobat Pro 8 (fully updated) to create a weekly PDF from one worksheet in a workbook
I have ALWAYS had an intermittent problem where the PDF would "seem" to create... but there was no output file (and no error message)
I would simply run the process again, and never had a failure twice in a row... this was always from the command bar
Last week, I tried to create my PDF and Excel locked and I had to restart my computer (this was the first time after that week's Microsoft Patch Tuesday)
After the restart, when I went to Excel to try again... the Acrobat icon was gone from the command bar
I am now using the Print to Acrobat PDF... it works every time, and is actually faster than what I was doing before
I don't know if this will help you, but it does seem that every time either Microsoft or Acrobat have an update... continuing to work is not 100% certain

  • PDF files opening and closing slowly in Acrobat version 9.5.2.

I am running Acrobat 9.5.2.  Last week our server died at work and we converted to a new one.  Since then pdf files have been opening and closing very slowly, sometimes taking 15+ seconds to close.  Strangely enough, if you open and close several in a row then they usually open and close quickly with some exceptions, but if you wait 10+ seconds and then try to open or close one it takes forever.  This happens whether or not the machine is connected to the server.
I tried to do a repair, however it said that it could not connect to the my documents folder at the old server location.  When I originally installed Acrobat, it was done through my University and not while I was even connected to my work server, so that is confusing to me.  Please help, as I use pdf's constantly and this is really slowing me down.

It doesn't seem like an Acrobat problem per se but a problem with they way your computer is configured to reach the new server. Perhaps you need to have someone come and look at how your computer is configured to reach the new server.  It could also be a problem with how the university configured their server. Server issues are something that cannot easily to diagnosed remotely.

  • How do I save a PDF in Photoshop/inDesign so that the text can be edited in Acrobat?

I notice that some PDF's I receive I am able to edit the text that is already in the document while using Acrobat Pro. However when I save my own PDF files I cannot seem to edit the text. Is there a specific way I should be saving my PDF? Either on Photoshop or inDesign?

    Photoshop - no chance.
InDesign - will usually just work.
Text editing in Acrobat is, however, a desperate last resort. Really, never, never consider it for files where the original is still available, even at some effort. Text editing is for where the original is lost and all the backups eaten by termites.

  • Acrobat 7.0 Professional file disappears after loading

Recently my co-worker ran into the following problem: every time she opened a PDF file, the file would load, display on the screen and then disappear. Acrobat would still be open and the title bar would still display the file name, but the file would no longer be visible. This happened to all the PDF files she accessed.
She's rebooted and the problem seems to have disappeared for the moment... (but, like all problems, I'm sure it's lying in wait until we have a deadline to meet...)
    Suggestions?

Heh...maybe there is easy explanation for this :)
You are saying Acrobat is still running, file is still opend (can the file be seen under the Window option?)
Acrobat remembers the position of last opened file, so it is possible that it is opened somewhere outside the visible screen.
This is common when having two monitors e.g. and you extend Acrobat to both of them, open some document on secondary monitor, then resize acrobat back to first monitor, so actually last file was opened on second monitor...

    Hello,
This error most likely exists due to missing VC++ Components on the client.
The recommendation would be to add all VC++ on both the machine you sequence on, and all clients if using App-V 4.X

  • Acrobat 9 crashes on OCR

I've been trying to convert a batch of large PDF files to PDF searchable files by using the OCR of Acrobat. In the middle of a batch, a large (1000+ page) document crashes acrobat. I have narrowed it down to this image:
    http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2418/badke2.png
    59,520 bytes
When I convert it to PDF (File->Create PDF->From Single File) and then use Acrobat to "Document->OCR Text Recognize->Recognize Text using OCR", Acrobat always crashes.
Is this true for anyone else that could try it?
It kills my batch processing and is making this large conversion quite painful. Is there a way around it?

    - Mac OS X 10.7.2
    - 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo
    - 4GB RAM

Acrobat 9 Pro OCR always crashes when using ClearScan but not when using "Searchable Image" or "Searchable Image (Exact)." I scanned several journal pages at 300 dpi (color, grayscale, bitmap) in .tiff and .png as well as screen selecting text from a browser. The results were consistent across all variations.
The last time I used the Acrobat's OCR function was last Summer before upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. Under Snow Leopard, Acrobat did not crash during OCR (it did crash, just not while processing text for OCR). I did not attempt Acrobat OCR under Lion 10.7 or 10.7.1.

A crash (or system crash) in computing is a condition where a computer or a program, either an application or part of the operating system, ceases to function properly, often exiting after encountering errors. Often the offending program may appear to freeze or hang until a crash reporting service documents details of the crash. If the program is a critical part of the operating system kernel, the entire computer may crash. This is different from a hang or freeze where the application or OS continues to run without obvious response to input.

  • I have updated my Adobe Acrobat plugin three times today but the firefox plugin check says it is out of date, a problem as I repeatedly encounter "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed" when I attempt to download pdfs.

I am attempting to download pdf's from a library search on JSTOR. I can view the pdf but cannot download them as they say "The Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". I have been to the firefox plugin check and have updated Adobe Acrobat three times in the last hour, but it still says my plugin is not up to date. This leads me to believe that this may be the source of my crash errors.
I updated Adobe Flash from the same firefox plugin check page and after one try it now says I am up to date, so my system is obviously accepting these updates.
    Help!!!!!

The following solution is useful for people who have the full version of Acrobat 9, but are getting the error message "the Adobe Acrobat plugin has crashed". You probably want the features in the full version of Acrobat, but still need to be able to open PDF files from your Firefox browser.
Go to Tools > Options > Applications. Scroll down and change all of the Adobe Acrobat files to open with Acrobat 9 (or whatever version you have) instead of "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)". This may not be as handy as having it use Acrobat inside the Firefox browser, but it will still let you open PDF files without having to uninstall the full version of Acrobat. Hope this helps.

  • Is there any harm in installing an older version of Acrobat along with the new version?

I'm running Acrobat v11.0.04 on my iMac. For my work, I have to create pdfs and upload them to a special server that then generates dynamic versions of them (blah blah blah... I don't really understand that part of it...). Anyway, it can't use PDFs created by this version of Acrobat... or the last few versions, for that matter. So... is there any harm in installing version 8 (which does work) on my iMac? I don't want to get rid of version 11... I want to have both.
    Thanks!
    julie

I am not sure anyone knows what the server needs. We just know what doesn't work. What DOES work are the pdfs I compile (I have to combine two pdfs into one) are the ones created from version 8. I will ask if I can get specifications. It's confusing because I create the pdfs and send them to someone else. He uploads them to this server which is run by another company. So there are a lot of different levels involved. All I know is that every time a new version of Acrobat comes out, I create a test pdf and it doesn't work. I always have to go back to version 8. I recently bought a new computer and didn't want to install version 8... but unless we can figure out  a way to generate the "right" pdfs, it looks like I  might have to. Anyway, I'll see what I can find out.

  • How do I download Acrobat Full Version?

SO here I am, running too much javascript in the rich editor on adobe forums.
All I wanted was a frickin download link for Adobe Acrobat.
Nope, I have to download the adobe download manager.
    OK, done.
Now I have to install acrobat, but Adobe says I must update my password.
    OK. Did that.
Now I want to install Acrobat. Nope, that's no good.

I want a download link for acrobat. Along with the last hour of my life back. TIA.

Finally got through n Safari 7.0.1 and now I see:
Download a free trial of Photoshop Lightroom 5
    Please correct the following:
The download process requires JavaScript to be enabled. Please enable JavaScript in your browser, then refresh the page.
I clicked on the link from Pat's page to get Adobe Acrobat XI, not Lightroom 5!
And I do have JavaScript enabled in Safari. That shouldn't matter, as it just throws up an a11y barrier, but for Adobe, they want to slow everything down with a bunch of javascript to have me download Photoshop Lightroom 5.
I want to convert a PDF to HTML. And that is for unpaid research. Ena and I are taking apart the Monsanto's bought-and-paid-for research, performed by Monsanto employees, using Monsanto testing facility, and published through Elsevier, which has been caught by Merck for falsifying an entire review board.
I tried many other PDF to HTML converters, but they couldn't convert tables properly. Mozilla's own pdf.js failed there, too.
We want to shed light on this research for the general public, which is only ever given dumbed-down, superficial PR. And it is my idea to do this using HTML. Nobody else I know can or will accomplish this. It must get done and I must do it.
Please help me obtain a copy of Adobe Acrobat. Version ten would be just fine for my needs; this is a 2004 study, so probably and old PDF.
    Thanks.

  • Download for Re-install of Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro?

I purchased Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro online at the Adobe website in 2009 and have been able to re-install as needed through downloads over the years.  I have an active account and the serial number for the product but cannot find a download link at the Adobe website.  Where can I find a download link for Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro?  Thanks for your help.

Success!  Thanks to Pat and Mike for their help.
The link provided by Pat works but it is tricky.  Bascially, to download Acrobat 8 Pro you have to:
    1.  Go to the link Pat provided -- see http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html. That should take you to the site below.
    2. Scroll down the page a little bit and you will come to a section entitled: "Very Important Instructions.  The screen will look like the one below.  Read the instructions carefully.  You have to follow a link in the narrative to the Adobe Acrobat XI download site and you have to click on the "Download Now" bar.  This will put a cookie on your computer that will make the link for the Acrobat 8 Pro work.  After you click the Acrobat XI download bar do not open the file -- just go back to the page you were on and continue scrolling down.
    3.  When you scroll down the page a little bit you will come to a screen that has a number of download links (see screen shot below).  The Acrobat 8 Pro is the last one.  Click on it and you should be able to down load the file and install it on your computer.
Thanks again for the help.  Much appreciated.
