  • ITunes for Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition?

When I joined the ranks of iPhone 3G owners @ 2 months ago, I was a bit disconcerted to see that iTunes wouldn't work with Windows XP Pro 64 bit edition. (Which is what is running on my primary PC). You Apple guys should know why I DON'T want to upgrade the machine to Vista! (It's running nice & stable on XP-Pro 64-bit). I've been able to sync the iPhone (& update it's software) using my girlfriend's PC (running 32-bit XP Home), but since she's none too careful about stuff like antivirus protection & adware, her machine's buggier than a roach motel! (Really needs to be re-imaged). Could I use the Vista 64-bit version of iTunes on my PC? REALLY rather use it than her machine! Thanks! Tom

There is no version of iTunes that supports the 64-bit version of Windows XP and never will be. If you search this forum for "XP 64" you'll find threads describing the process some people have used to "crowbar" iTunes onto XP 64, with varying levels of success, none of them complete.
    Regards.

  • Acrobat Standard 8.17 AIP not running in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

    Hello,
I am trying to run an AIP that I created for Acrobat 8.0 (updated to 8.17) on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I created the AIP and then ran it on Win7RC (32-bit) and it installed fine. I have also tried this same AIP on Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and it works there.
When I try to run the same AIP on W7P x64, I get a flash of the command window and then a flash of the Adobe "Preparing to install" window and then both windows close and the installation terminates. Have tried it from the 32-bit command prompt (%windir%\SysWoW64\cmd.exe) but same failure.
Have moved the AIP package to the root of C: and run it - same failure.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the AIP to work in 64-bit?
    Thanks.

Hello - I have been able to get the AIP installed.
Turns out that the installation was hanging because a previous version of Acrobat was already installed. On other machines with Acrobat, I would get a window stating that I had to remove the old software but on W7 x64, the installation simply failed. After removing the old version and trying again, the new installation succeeded.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

  • Why can't I install downloaded Acrobat XI Pro onto Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Downloaded Adobe XI Pro. Will not install on my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit pc. Keep getting message that the program is 32 bit and not compatible. I can only assume that the exe file is trying to load Acrobat into the 64 bit "Program File" folder rather than the "Program Files (x86)" folder reserved for 32 bit applications. What can I do? Try another download? Download the trial and use the serial number that I got? Can I force the exe file to load into the (x86) folder? Appreciate your help.

    Pat,
A folder has been downloaded to my desktop. The folder contains 2 files. One file, "Adobe Professional XI Windows (Download) Keys.html" contains the key. The other file is "Acrobat Pro_11_Web_WWMUI.exe".  When double clicking this file, I get the error message "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of of Windows that you are running. Determine the version of Windows, 32 bit or 64 bit, and contact the software supplier for the correct 32 bit or 64 bit version." No installation.

  • Photoshop 7 (& other old Adobe programs) installation in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

Recently I purchased a new computer running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) with 2 TB hard drive and 16 GB memory and faced the task of trying to install Photoshop 7, Illustrator 8, Acrobat 8 Pro, and Dreamweaver CS3 that I had used very satisfactorily on my old Windows XP SP 3, 2GB memory computer with less than 1 TB hard drive. I now have all of these running successfully on my new computer and thought I would share here my experience gleaned from a number of other forums after many hours. I had the most problem with Photoshop 7 which I will describe last. In all cases I had the original genuine installation disks. These are generally needed except for Illustrator 8.
Dreamweaver CS3 -- This installed easily in the Program Files (x86) folder & does not seem to require running in XP compatibility mode
Acrobat 8 Pro -- Same as Dreamweaver CS3
Illustrator 8 -- The installation disk would not work for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. A solution I found in a Microsoft forum is simply to copy the Illustrator folder and contents into the ProgramData folder on the new computer along with the following dll files in the C\Windows folder of the old computer: icccodes.dll, kpcp32.dll, kpsys32.dll, pcdlib32.dll, pfpick.dll, sprof32.dll  These go right into the Illustrator folder. This program needs to be run using XP compatibility mode (after copying preceding files go to Control Panel --> Programs --> Programs and Features --> Run programs made for previous versions of Windows -- follow directions there). It might be possible to copy into the Program Files (x86) folder too, but the ProgramData folder works. I have not actually used Illustrator after doing this, but since it started ok, I presume that there will be no problems.
Photoshop 7 -- My Photoshop 7 was an upgrade from Photoshop 5. The PS 5 installation disk would not run on Windows 7 & when I tried the PS 7 upgrade disk (autorun) I got the message that it could not find a previous version of PS & then shut down the installation. I tried the method used for Illustrator 8 above (suggested on yet another forum with an additional dll identified in another Windows folder), but I got the message "Could not complete your request because of missing or invalid personalization information". This evidently had to do with missing authentication serial code number in the registry. I found some discussion of this in forums but no workable fix in my case which involved an upgrade. Then I discovered inormation in another forum which explained that installation with the disks could be done by inserting the upgrade disk and running it from the setup.exe file instead of autorun. When you do this you are presented with the option of proving your previous version of PS by simply inserting the earlier version PS disk at this pint of the process. After doing this the installation with the upgrade disk proceeds fine. The PS 7 program can be installed in the Adobe folder within the Program Files (x86) folder. However, after doing this and trying to start PS 7 you get the following error (if your hard drive is 1 TB or greater in capacity): "Could not inititialize Photoshop because the scratch disk are full" After much reading I learned that this occurs because PS 7 apparently cannot recognize partitions (volumes) 1 TB or greater. What you need to do is set up an additional partition (volume) on your hard drive. This is easy to do. Go to Windows Help, search on "create partition", choose "Create and format a hard disk partition", and follow the directions. I decided to make a 50 GB partion I named "scratch". The system will assign a drive letter to it. To use the new partion to allow PS 7 to start you need to start PS 7 and immediately press the ALT and CTRL keys together. This will bring up a window where you tell PS 7 which drives to use for its scratch disk. You need to select the newly-created scratch disk(partition) in the first choice and leave the other choices as "None". After doing this you have one last issue. When you try to save any file in PS 7 you cannot save it directly anywhee on the C drive since that drive is 1 TB or greater. What I do is save it to the scratch drive and then later move it from there to where I want it on my C drive. I have seen it suggested to install the PS 7 program itself on the newly-created scratch drive, but I don't know if this would allow saving files to the C drive. When installed the way I have described it does not seem to require operating in the XP compatibility mode.
Hope this helps those of you who prefer working with the programs they are used to on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

  • USB MIDI not working in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

The problem is that even though my devices are recognized in Control Panel/ Sound and in Device Manager, no MIDI data actually flows and I cannot sync my keyboard to the Yamaha software that edits it.  The error message in the Yamaha software reads
“The following MIDI ports can not be opened at this time”.   At first, MIDI was working and I could sync up, but after about a week, right around the time I uninstalled and re-installed a MS Lifecam, it failed and has not worked since.
I have been working directly with Yamaha tech support on the issue for some time. I have a Yamaha SX70 XS keyboard, which is recognized by Windows as a connected USB device. It is self-powered, not powered by USB. I am using the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver version
3.1.2 for Windows 7 64-bit (the latest driver). And the latest versions of all their editing software for Win7 64-bit. They assure me that those work for other users of Win7 64-bit. In my case though, everything shows up in Windows, but MIDI doesn’t actually
work. And I cannot sync to the keyboard due to the above error message.
Yamaha tells me that their USB-MIDI driver is installing fine on my machine, except that it’s missing a windows driver at the bottom of the driver stack. (You can see this in Device Manager, Properties/Driver tab, then Driver Details. The missing driver
is ksthunk.sys, which I think handles kernel streaming. Sounds like that would relate to MIDI data. They have never heard of this driver not showing up there, and they cannot reproduce the problem. ksthunk.sys is on my machine in c:\windows\system32\drivers\
and in the registry the image path is \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\ksthunk.sys
All devices are “working properly” in Windows Device Manager, despite that missing driver. Yamaha MIDI Driver is shown in Control Panel/Sound, and it can be worked with there (opened, closed, configured, etc.).  I have also tried three different USB
cables (but those shouldn't be an issue since the keyboard is showing up in Windows).
I was also advised by Yamaha to edit registry key  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32  and remove all midi, midi1, midi2, etc entries, then uninstall and reinstall all drivers. Which I did, but it didn't help.
So far, no amount of re-installation, event viewing, uninstalling devices, numerous reboots, etc has fixed it. On this machine, that driver just doesn’t hook up to the Yamaha MIDI driver and show up in the stack.
So it looks like it may be a Windows 7 config problem on my machine, and I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice on how to fix it. The Microsoft forums contain a fair number of users reporting similar problems, some are audio and some are webcam
related. I've followed those threads, and done several of the suggestions, but haven't found a solution to this one.
This is a Dell XPS 8300 Windows 7 64-bit PC with all the latest updates, only about six weeks old. I've been struggling with the MIDI problem for most of that time.  I'm an IT professional (network and systems admin), so you can be fairly technical
    in your response.
Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am so glad I found keyman7's description, since I have exactly the same problem.
The problem is not related to MIDI output! I have it with a pure USB-MIDI-input device (keyboard), whichs produces "unknown externeal error" every time I try to select it as input. The same thing occurs with a USB-MIDI-Cable.
I compared the driver details from my system (Dell T1500 windows 7 pro 64 bit) with those of another windows 7 pro 64 bit. On that other system the device works like a charm (so it is not the hardware, either).
On the other system I find ksthunk.sys in addition to the modules that are listed on my system as well (beeing \windows\system32\drivers\drmk.sys, ..\prtcls.sys, ..\USBAUDIO.sys and \windows\system32\SysFx.dll, ..\WMALFXGFXDSP.dll).
Can it be some other USB driver is interfering with this driver stack? I have no idea how to figure out which one it could be. Or, it has been suggested in other threads with somewhat similar looking symptoms, ksthunk.sys has been removed as  UpperFilters
    entry?
    Help - please!

  • Premiere Pro CS3: Many Problems Fixed By Upgrading to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I recently installed an SSD drive and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
Installing the Adobe Master Collection CS3 went smoothly and only took a few minutes instead of an hour, as in the past.
Premiere, for the first time in the years I've used it, runs STABLE. Not only that, but I can have AfterEffects open at the same time. And Maya 2008. And everything chugs along smoothly.
Case in point tonight: Multicam Editor: Under XP, it worked, but the quality of the video displays would be badly pixellated when video was playing. Under Windows 7, all the four viewports plus the 'online' viewport are sharp and clear and I can see if a camera is slightly out of focus, which was impossible to detect in the past until I watched the finished result.
The audio dropouts everyone complained about for years are a thing of the past.
And here's the biggie: I can render, render, render and keep rendering h.264 files and Premiere keeps ticking. Under XP, 2 to 3 files and that's it. Unknown Error would be the next render result. Under W7-64, I rendered all night and day without shutting or restarting Premiere, and I even had Maya and AE going and was working in them at the same time, something I could never do in XP because it would run out of RAM. And I can do this in 4GB ram! With 8GB, AE renders 3.5X faster, but most other programs remain about the same. I figure in the case of AE, it has EXCLUSIVE use of 4GB ram all to itself on an 8GB system. At any rate, die-hard CS3 users, don't be afraid to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.
The only thing you need to do differently is put the Postscript fonts in Adobe's fonts folder, as it won't see the Windows\Fonts-located PS fonts.
My 2008-vintage editing workstation breaths new life, like a major hardware upgrade was done. The "$139 system performance upgrade" I call it. (Sure, adding the Intel 320 SSD helps, but mainly with launching programs--once they're running, the main improvement comes from Windows 7 64-bit.)

Actually, Win8 is really not a tablet OS... it is "essentially" Win7 with a different front end http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1101032
Anything other than a new Win8 "app" runs on the same kind of desktop you see with Win7

  • V570 problem with Intel onboard driver on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

    Hello Everyone,
I recently installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on my Lenovo v570. I downloaded the drivers from the support page and I have a strange problem with the onboard graphics driver "Intel Onboard Graphics Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit) - Lenovo B470, B570, V370, V470, V570" in the drivers section.
Installation seems fine, but after restart, the system fails to boot and goes into boot recovery mode, where I get a message saying that booting failed due to a bad driver and the only actual option I have to boot up is to go back to a previous restore point. I tried installing the Nvidia driver for Windows 7, but it says that I need to install an Intel driver first, which is the one that gives me the blue screen when booting. I have also tried installing both drivers without a restart between both installations, but that didn't help.
I am wondering if anyone in the community has seen something similar. Any advice, information or assistance will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your time.

  • I am using Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit on a brand new PC, and cannot connect to the iTunes store using iTunes version 10.  HELP!!

Ok, so after purchasing a new computer, with windows 7 pro, 64 bit, I tried downloading the newest iTunes, which at the time was 10.2.1 (i believe).  After installation, everything seemed to work, except that iTunes was unable to securely connect to the internet, use home sharing, or validate my computer.
As troubleshooting, I first ran msconfig, and then turned OFF all programs that boot at start up EXCEPT itunes and quicktime.  After a restart, i opened itunes again, and got the same result.  That led me to believe that iTunes was NOT being blocked by another program on my machine.  I am currently running itunes 10.7 successfully on a Windows 7 32 machine at work.  Anyhow, for grins, I tried to install version 9 on the new computer, and it installed perfectly, and immediately connected to the itunes store, leading me to believe that there is nothing wrong with my software configuration (not sure if this is a safe assumption or not).  I then tried to let iTunes update itself using the automated update function.  It tried to update itself to the most current version, then 10.6.  Again, iTunes was unable to connect to the iTunes store.  I HAVE tried disabling the anti-virus software (AVG), but that made no difference.
I have since gone back and reinstalled iTunes 9.  Here's the catch though.  When I reinstalled using version 9, I had to redo all my library files.  I'm about 1/2 way through my CD's, and now have a substantial library file going.  The last time I let iTunes update itself to 10.6, once I realized that it was not going to connect to the store, I uninstalled iTunes, and reinstalled ver. 9.  However, when I did this, it told me it could no longer open the library file, because it was a newer .itl or .xml (i believe it was one of those two extensions) library file.  At that point, I basically started everything over again, using version 9, and have been importing CD's like a madman at night.
    Here are my questions:
    1) Is there a way to make a copy of the files that store my library info, so that if my upgrade to ver 10 IS NOT SUCCESSFUL, I can restore ver 9, but still have all of the album art work, playlists (when I import music, I create a playlist with the artists' name, and store things that way), etc. in tact?
    2) What else can I try (firewall settings, internet options, etc.) to try and get version to to successfully install?  I would really like to get all the benfits of the newer versions.
    3) When I tried to get apple tech support before, they wanted me to pay a ridiculous 69$ fee for phone support.  I just bought an iphone 5....this should entitle me to a fresh 90 days of phone support, right?  The reason I ask here is that I could hardly understand the "tech" that answered the phone when I called for tech support last time, and to be honest, it really ****** me off that they wanted to try and milk me for another 69 bucks....I've purchased every iPhone since the 3Gs came out (pre-ordered at that), and have nearly gone broke purchasing music from their iTunes store....heck, maybe they're doing me me a favor not letting me into the store, huh?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated,
    -Brian

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same Mac Pro HD?

Has anyone been able to install both Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same dedicated Windows hard drive? I have four HD in my Mac Pro, and one of them is dedicated for Windows (and bootable via Boot Camp). I found the following technical articles about installing Windows XP & Vista on the same hard drive (using two separate partitions) using a VMWare machine as the test system:
    http://apcmag.com/howto_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystepguide.htm
    http://apcmag.com/howto_dualboot_vista_with_xp__stepbystep_guide_withscreenshots.htm
Has anyone successfully installed Windows XP (32-bit) and Vista 64-bit) on the same NTFS partition?
I already have Windows XP Pro (32-bit) SP3 installed on my single NTFS hard drive. I am looking for the best way to add the Vista 64-bit installation on the same hard drive.
Any thoughts and advise are appreciated.

Windows has its own list of boot OSs, and default, from msconfig. It will sit and wait for xx-seconds on startup in Windows if you want to boot from an alternate.
As to whether Apple's OS Switcher (aka startup disk bootcamp control panel or tray icon) sees both, I had Windows Home Premium and Ultimate 64, and pretty sure OS X saw both. That was pre-Leopard and before there were 64-bit Apple drivers.
I can't think of any scenerio of wanting to mix 32-bit and 64-bit on the same paritition, you realize you can't install the one over the other and must do a clean install.
When I added a partition out of main partition (I wanted to put search index and page file on their own partition) those partitions aren't seen - are hidden - to Leopard.

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. • Help! Installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit fails...

I am trying to install Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on my new video system:
    - I boot the PC with the install CD inserted
    - I get
        . the installation screen
        . accept licence agreement
. select on which disk I want to install windows
. the copy to disk finishes
. the next step is to reboot my system so that windows continues the install from disk.
. however after the reboot, just after the systems POST, I just get a black screen and nothing happens.
I already removed all other disks and removed the raid card :
       So only the...
           - motherboard Asus P6T SE
           - CPU : Intel quad core 950 3.2Mhz
           - Corsair 12 GB
           - single WD 160GB disk ( for windows )
           - LG DVD player
           - Corsair PSU
           - ps2 keyboard
           - ps2 mouse
      ... remains attached
What is also strange is that there is no F6 during the install of Windows XP. Previously you could press F6 for additional drivers.
Now you can not.  I tried to press F6 a couple of times but no additional options came on the screen.
I also allready preformated the disk : single partition and NTFS preformated with default 4kb cluster size.
    Anybody an idea?

Thanks... above helped... when searching on that forum I found someting about changing SATA from IDE to AHCI.
So in the bios I changed ...
       > Storage Configuration > Change Configure SATA as IDE
    ... to ...
    > Storage Configuration > Change Configure SATA as RAID
... and now it seems to work.
I used RAID instead of simple AHCI because I want to use raid0 (striping) for my paging disks.
So I will have a single disk for W7 Pro and use 2 disks for paging and cache.
My other 6 disks will later be used in raid3 on an areca controller.
Still working on my installation so I will leave this post open until windows 7 pro is installed / updated / configured.

  • Windows 7 Pro 64-bit to be used as a terminal server

    Hello,
I'm looking at using a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC as a Terminal Server using an application such, as ThinStuff XP/VS (www.thinstuff.com), to manage the RDP connections.  Based on everything I've read, it looks like there's no Terminal Server CALs available
for purchase through MicroSoft, so is there a need to worry about licensing?  Each PC that connects will have it's own Windows 7 Pro valid license and, of course, the PC to be used is also valid.  Are there any licensing concerns I should have?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
To set up a terminal server, I suggest to set up a windows server system, Since Windows 7 is a client operating system and I do not suggest to use a third part software to modify its roles, especially the role or function related to the license. As for your
license concern, you can refer to the license agreement below Select your product name, version and language:

  • Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit) error/crash: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (tcpip.sys)

    Hi,
I bought a new computer with Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit) in February/March 2013 and it has crashed almost every day I've had it (it crashes at least every two days).  Despite constantly sending the details of the crash through to Microsoft it doesn't seems
to have been addressed. The error message that pops up every time is the same.  It is on a blue screen and says:
"Your computer has encountered an error and needs to restart :(
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (tcpip.sys)"
Can someone please explain what I need to do to fix this?  I am not a tech head so some step by step instructions would be great.  Can i (re)install new drivers etc or is this a common fault of Windows 8?  This is driving me crazy.  It
certainly doesn't make me feel like I have a new computer that's for sure!
I just read one post that suggested someone's fault ma be because of antivirus software AVG Internet Security 2013 (which I have).  How can I find out iof this is the case?  And if this software doesn't work with Windows 8 does anyone know
what is the best to use with Windows 8?
Any help would be massively appreciated.
    Cheers,
    rdtro1
