Acrobat not optimized for .png ?

Hi everyone.
I need to convert a 750 kb png file (8bit RGB, no transparency) into a .pdf file, which I have to keep as small as possible.
So I open the .png file in Acrobat and save it as a .pdf
I would have expected a resulting ~770-800 kb .pdf,
however it turned out to be an unsatisfactory 1164 kb.
While I do understand that encapsulating a .png file into a .pdf file will inevitably and inherently increase the file size, but the container alone needs about ~20 kb. So there is something else going on here.
From my observations, I get the impression, that the .png file's binary content is not embedded 1:1 into the .pdf file, but interpreted - meaning that the .png content is decoded into a full resolution bitmap image ... which is then recompressed according to the settings in edit > preferences > categories > convert to pdf > png > edit settings > compression > color
I want the conversion to be lossless, so the only possible options here are "ZIP" and "JPEG2000 (quality:lossless)". But both options invariably lead to the same file size mentioned above (~1164 kb).
So my question is:
Is there ANY way to convert a .png file into a .pdf file by simply embedding the .png content, i.e. without decoding the .png into a bitmap image and recompressing it?
Many thanks!
PS: I am on Acrobat Pro 8, and familiar with all the options in PDF optimizer (which were not capable of substantially reducing the .pdf file size without resorting to lossy image compression)
PPS: I can upload a sample file if need be.

Phillip, I thank you and honestly appreciate your help.
But I went out of my way to provide fairly detailed information about the problem, my objective and what I've already tried so far and you hardly take any of that into account, ignoring specifically that I said I'm "familiar with all the options in PDF optimizer (which were not capable of substantially reducing the .pdf file size without resorting to lossy image compression)". I have already maxed out ALL non-image settings for maximum compressibility. As for the image compression, my OP stresses twice that it needs to be lossless, thus not allowing for the DPI reduction you suggested (which besides is in many cases – including mine – a not so good idea because well compressible PNGs, such as non-photographic imagery, may even end up increasing in file size due to the anti-aliasing involved in the DPI reduction).
My objective and my question highlighted above in yellow still stand. Is there no way to preserve the PNG's bitstream when converting to .pdf? Do I really have to settle for a 200%-1400% increase in file size (as shown by the examples above)?? And more generally speaking: Is Acrobat 8 incapable of using PNG compression for images? If no, how is this possible, given that PNGs have been supported by all major Internet Browsers for more than a decade!
Thank you.
PS: Here is the 129kb .png file from posting #2 in case anyone wants to try a .pdf conversion

    Hello there philp_69,
If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone hasnt been recognized in iTunes on your PC since the last couple of updates. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article which will walk you through the steps one by one.

  • I have a 16GB 3GS phone. For the last few days, my phone is constantly giving me message that the accessory attached to my phone is not optimized for this iphone. You may experience noise or poor communication, while there is no acessory attached to it.

I have a 16GB 3GS phone since about20 months now. For the last few days, my phone is constantly giving me message that the accessory attached to my phone is not optimized for this iphone. You may experience noise or poor communication, while there is no acessory attached to it. I always used standard headphones and charging cable. Now when i recall, it started at one of the sync sessions with my itunes. I have turned my phone off and aon again and again but the message keeps coming every one or two minutes.I have also started loosing voicce on different applications like youtube etc. Also the ringer volume up and down key does not show me the small boxes increasing or decreasing on screen. The phone is playing crazy. Can someone help please
    Thanks
    Zia

It helped earlier but it has come back again. I don't know what to do. I tried what you said earlier but this time even this is not working either. And quite intrestingly my phone won't turn off. I turn it off, it goes off and then restarts on its own and then keep giving the same message again and again.
Could it be a charging cable, is there any chance that the cable which was working fine one day could turn to be "incompatible" with iphone the other day????????
    Please help

  • Just started getting intermittent error on my 3G:This accessory is not optimized for iPhone..." but nothing is connected or plugged in to it or anything?

Was just checking my iPhone and when I pressed the home button to wake it up the message "no sim installed" was on the screen,  obviously it was so I restarted the phone, that cleared it but then I started intermittently getting a popup message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone...(don't remember the rest), did a hard reset and still happening once in a while, there isn't anything plugged into or connected to my phone at all though, would appreciate any help or advice please

The most common reason for message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone" with nothing plugged in, is dust, debris etc. in the iPhone dock port. Clean the dock port with a clean dry toothbrush. If the message returns again, clean the dock port again very carefully using some isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib.

I just upgraded my iPhone 3GS to 4.3.5 and my universal doc stopped working with it?  It has worked flawlessly for the last year and suddenly I get the message: "this iphone is not optimized for this device."  I dismiss the message, but the remote no longer works with it and the music is too quite to the speakers.  The remote works fine with my Macbook Pro.  I tried a restore on the iPhone and started from scrach, but the same problem exists.

  • Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro

I'm sure you've seen this before and I've tried to search for a thread on it here and fell asleep, so sorry if this is a repeat.
I have edited projects in Premiere Pro (on my PC) and I have tried to transfer them in FCP. It worked with the exception of two things:
    1. the error message, "Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro"
    2. the quality *****! watching it on the playback in FCP it looks great, but then when I burn it to Disc it's pixelated in spots and generally has a lower quality picture.
I know that it's Standard Def. and can't expect the best, but I've done it before (once or twice) and it didn't seem this bad.
Can someone suggest anything to help the quality? Should I run my AVIs through MPEG Steamclip to make it a QT file and if so what is the best format in that since there are many to choose from and most I'm not familiar with?
    Thank you,
    Crayton

I did compress them to DV NTSC then burned it to DVD and the result was no bueno.
I thought what I would do is try compressing them again before I send them on over to DVDSPRO. Here is a simplified break down of the situation:
    - I have edited the raw footage in Premiere Pro on my PC. They were recorded and captured as SD.
    - I rendered them in Premiere, then transfered the rendered AVI file to FCP.
    - When went to place the files in FCP, I received the warning message; "Following Media Files Are Not Optimized For Final Cut Pro" but I went forward anyways and it allowed me to do so.
    - Originally I went ahead and compressed them from FCP to QT Movie as a DV NTSC, which ended up poorly.
    - Therefore my question is, should I compress them using another file type (other then DV NTSC)? Which leads me to another program that I have called MPEG Streamclip, which offers tons of file types of which I am unfamiliar with most. I want the best quality of course but don't know what file type is the highest going from AVI to a format that can be accepted by FCP and ultimately DVDSPRO. Keeping in mind that I only have FCP5 and do not have Prores.
    Did that make sense?
    Thank you again,
    Crayton

  • After target display mode, iPhoto reports an error, "The current screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto."

I have the 27-inch (late 2009) iMac with mini-Display port input. Whenever I return from Target Display Mode, I get the attached error message and iPhoto becomes unresponsive (the window is still active, but clicking on it produces the error/warning system sound), I have to Force Quit it. The current screen resolution is not optimal for iPhoto (sometimes the error message is a little off the screen in the lower left and only the top of the window can be seen. This also seems to affect iTunes at the same time (by resizing the window to be super small), but without the error message or unresponsiveness.
Has anyone else gotten this problem, and or might know of a fix?

Yes, I have the same problem.  I have checked the resolution in Sysyem Preferences - display and it is properly set to the highest resolution (which is recommended).  I have no idea why this is ocurring but it is annoying.

  • How to deleted warning this accessory is not optimized for this iPhone

How to deleted warning "this accessory is not optimized for this phone"

You cannot delete it, it is a valid message.
The issue may be that the dock connector has dust/lint in it or the pins are bent.  Try cleaing the connector with a soft dry brush.
This assumes that the "accessory" that is generating the message is optimized for iPhone.

  • Is Logic 8 not optimized for dual core processing duties ?

Running MacBook Pro 2.4 ghz, 2 gig Ram 200 gig HD external eSATA or FW 800. No other apps running.
I am consistently seeing Logic 8 use ALL of the first core and barely tough the other - sometimes freezing up - saying that the CPU(s?) can not handle the audio. Why do I not see the other core "bailing water" for the first core ? Isn't this the purpose of dual core ?. It is like one guy is lifting a 150lb sac and his partner is sitting there eating lunch - and the "team"'s efforts fail.
Is Logic itself not optimized for dual core processing duties ?

I get beachballs just logging in. No apps - then Safari is also very buggy. I have had to "pull the battery out" more times than I would like to recount.
That sounds very suspect, like there is something wrong with the hardware or your OS install. I have a MBP 2.33 and have none of the Logic or other system problems you describe. Have you looked at your System Profiler to make sure both sticks of Ram are being recognized? If one stick is bad and you're only utilizing 1 gig, that would cause slow downs and spiny beachball with Leopard and with Logic. Try running hardware test from your system disks, and also try running Rember, a small app that will run a series of read/write tests on the Ram, incase one stick has a bad sector.
If that comes up with nothing, I'd try setting up a new user, logging in to that user, and seeing if you're having the same slow down problems with Leopard, Safari, Logic, etc. If not, then you have some corrupt files in your User system somewhere. Whether that works or not, the next step would be to back up all of your data and do an Erase and Install.
Finally, if you have specific problems that you can recreate, you could also take the machine to Apple if you still have a warranty, and perhaps they can figure out your performance issues.
    Good Luck!

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 not optimized for iMac 5K graphics card?

I have the new iMac 5k with the AMD Redeon R9 M295X 4 GB GDDR5 graphics card. In Premiere Pro CC 2014 (updated to the latest version), when I go to "project settings" and select "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration," I get a pop-up window that reads: "the selected renderer hardware has not been certified." Does this mean that Premiere Pro is not optimized for these video cards? If I still choose to select GPU acceleration, will I see any performance boost?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

It means Adobe has not tested the card.
If you can select the card you are OK.

    Hello abyjohn,
I would be concerned too if the speaker on my iPhone was not working, and if I was getting a message about the accessory not being optimized.  I found an article with some steps to take when you are experiencing issues like this.
