Acrobat Online PDF Destinations Linking Problem

Hi
I've created several destinations from several web pages to different end points within a single PDF document. Our testers are confirming an intermitent problem where they link to a different end point than is set for that link. Thi may occur 1 out of 5 or more attemps. In other words the link works correctly most of the time. Is there anything someone could suggest to prevent this from happening. I'm going to re-create the end points all over again, but I was hoping someone could come up with a better recommendation.
Thanks!

Here is the .pdf file (.jsp file) I need to open, i.e. the SC 30 Dismissal Small Claims Court.pdf (updated 11/05/13)--- (see screen shot):
This is what I see when I open the .pdf file (.jsp file) link with Internet Explorer (see screen shot):
This is what I see when I open the .pdf file link (.jsp file) with FireFox (see screen shot):
Here is the default programs in my Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit PC to open .jsp & .pdf files (see two screen shots):
I'm not a computer expert, but I think somehow I need a program or plug-in or something related to Java in order to open the .jsp files, not Adobe Reader.  Can you assist me with figuring out the Java thing if you think that could be it?

  • InDesign to Adobe Acrobat to Adobe Reader Link problem

Hi - I'm responsible for a long conversation about link problems in creating file links in InDesign that did not work in Acrobat. At the end of that long discussion, I thought I solved the problem, but didn't. Since then, I've been MUCH more observant.
The problem appears to take place in Adobe Reader.
My home computer on Win7 is different than my work Computer (XP), but I have the same software on both.
At work, I discovered that when I clicked on a PDF, it worked fine, that its links opened a new PDF window, but when I clicked on links on the second document, the links failed and Microsoft returned an error message telling me that I was screwed. Because I was screwed, I couldn't see what was in the path of that error.
It turns out that for some unknown reason (which you might clarify for me), my Adobe Readers are attempting to open my documents in Internet Explorer and that just won't work.
What I observed at home is that I made 5 test documents in ID, and ported them to Acrobat. As it turns out, my default for opening PDFs is Adobe Reader, which I saw on the chrome of the first document I opened. When I clicked a link, and I got the error message, I noticed my browser was up.
When I set my default for opening in Acrobat, everything worked like a charm! How about that!
Now then, what that says to me is that Adobe Reader is to be used exclusively with a browser, so if the people who are going to read your internal PDF files with Reader without those files being on a web server of some type, you are totally screwed. The only way you can use Reader is if you click on the file and bring it up directly. Don't rely on linking to other documents.
I mean, that is what it seems to me.
Now, I am creating a big project for an environment without a webserver and obviously my sense of panic is palpable. That said, I believe that all my users can read my files using Acrobat (to be tested tomorrow), which I hope means I can breathe a bit easier.
Do any of you have any thoughts on this subject? If you are really curious, I can make a packet of test files available.

The files and the PDFs are all in the same directory.
The tests are on local drives. All indesign files and their related PDFs were in the same directory.
The same for Word and its related PDFs. Note that the PDFs created by Word then read by Adobe Reader worked correctly. They all opened in Adobe Reader.
If the default program for opening PDFs is Acrobat, everything works correctly, with the added benefit of everything opening in a different window, which is what I want (yet to be tested at work). If the default program is Adobe Reader, the second generation of links do NOT work because Reader opens in Internet Explorer.
When I open a Word-created PDF with Acrobat, view the link, and click to the Actions menu, the action is "Open a file"
When I open an InDesign PDF with Acrobat and do the same, the action says "Open a web link"
    Big BIG BIG bug.
Are you seeing the link commands by editing them in Acrobat? If not, try, so you can see the exact command and file or URL instruction. It still may be a bug, but you'll have better evidence when you report it here:
Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
And, you might want to try correcting a link command in Acrobat, to see if can work for both Acrobat and Reader.

  • Acrobat X external document linking problem

    Hello,
I have been using Acrobat 6 standard for our user manuals for years and have recently started using Acrobat X.
It seems that the external document linking has changed though.  I used to put all of our 3rd party literature (PDFs) in a separate folder (to keep it clean and neat) under our main manual PDF.  I would link to all those documents inside our user manual PDF.  Then when I later burned the PDF and the 3rd party literature to a CD, as long as I maintained the folder heirarchy, everything worked just fine.
Under Acrobat X though this doesn't seem to be the case.  If I just burn it to a CD, then the all of the external links are broken.  I have been able to do this by adding Desinations names to the 3rd part literature but this is a lot more work and I don't want to modify all of the 3rd party docs.  In addition, some of them are read only and you cannot edit them.
Does anyone know how to link to external documents in Acrobat X and then move them to a new location while maintaining the link without editing the external documents (some are read only).
Thank you for any help you can give me.

The Javascript code populates a field on the form and the If Then statement sets this value based on  the amount in another field.  I have changed all of the values in the If Then statement but the button is still using the old values.
I have tried this on three different computers and it will not pick up the new values.

  • Link problem when converting MS Word to PDF with Acrobat Professional

    Hello all,
    I have the following problem:
When I have a MS Word document with links to other files inside and I convert it to PDF the links are converted from relative paths to absolute paths.
The problem is created by Acrobat as the links in the MS Word file are relative (I have checked this by moving the different docs to another directory and confirmed that the links still work after the move).
How can I make the paths in the PDF relative again? I know there is a plugin from Evermap (and I can confirm this works) but I do not want to use this plugin (=read: spend another $190 dollars) as the license for the Acrobat Professional is expensive enough . Is there a way I can convert the paths within Adobe Acrobat easily? Or better: can I adjust the settings in Acrobat to a new standard when all converted documents contain relative paths?
    Backgroundinfo:
    - Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional
    - Windows XP (SP2)
    - MS Word 2002
    Thanks in advance!
    Bart

    Dear Steve,
I have tried what u suggested: I put all the documents (word + linked documents) into the same folder on the local-drive (C). Then I recreated the links  in the word document to be sure they were matching. After that I converted the word document to an PDF and confirmed the links were still working in the PDF document.
Then the biggest challenge: copying the pdf and linked documents to another drive&directory. As you can guess: Unfortunately the links did not work anymore.
    Any other suggestions?
If I use the Evermap-tool (30 day-trial) I can look at the links and this is how it is 'coded' in the pdf.
    first link: ../../../../test/link_a.pdf
    second link: ../../../../test/link_b.pdf
and yes this will work if you put the documents in the directory test in the root of the local-drive but not in a different subdirectory.
    Anyone ideas?
    Grtz,
    Bart

  • ACROBAT READER 7.09-PDF'S NOT OPENING FROM ONLINE PDF LINKS

Trying to open up pdf's from an online link and they will not open up, not even in preview. Anyway i can setup acrobat to be the default handler of online pdf's.

Basically what is happening is that no download box pops up when i click the link on his mac, meaning, it doesn't look like it is even downloading it. My mac downloads and opens it right up on my machine in adobe. I thought maybe it was a browser issue, im running safari 1.3.2, he is running 1.2.3 and i tried upgrading him to 1.3.1 and it said it couldn't install the software, I then tried installing 1.3.2 and it said it couldn't install without 1.3.1. How the **** do you upgrade safari?

  • How do I correct a problem with PDF Portfolio Links

    Problem with links.
Converting a page from MSWord to PDF is presenting problems:
    I have changed preferences to deselect the Convert Word Bookmarks option;
    The straight conversion retains the links;
    Adding the file to PDF portfolio breaks the latest link;
    Using the link tool and go to page option tries to open the page (file) but I receive instruction to download Acrobat Reader 9 (I already have the latest reader installed (9.3), have checked it and repaired it);
Attempting to download the Reader (I cannot move on – the page is full screen and will not be minimised) the download is blocked at the end.
I have rebuilt the Portfolio from scratch but the problem persists.
I have run a full (extended) bench test on all my hardware – no significant problems found.
MSWord docx. saved in html and converted back to MSword
New doc converted to PDF with minimum preferences
    Converted doc copied to portfolio
    No change
    Portfolio opened in PDF reader
    No Change
Acrobat 9.3 uninstalled and replaced with original Acrobat 9
    No Change
PDF Printer driver checked – OK
    Full virus scan run
The Portfolio updating from MSWord is a procedure which I have repeated many times in the past without any problem.
I cannot move forward, all attempts to solve the problem have failed.

  • Online PDF landing page via links

This is an odd How-To question, so here goes.  I have a document of about a dozen abstracted text records.  Each abstracted record, actually deeds from the 1700's, has the full image in a PDF file.  In my Word file I want to create a link to the internal page of the PDF.  For example:
Daniel Shumat (Greenbrier Co.) to Jacob Miller (Bedford Co.) ₤300, 296 acres on both sides of north fork of Black Water River, part of 396 acres ‘survad’ for James Rentfro, August 29, 1785, witnesses: Jacob [German Script], Daniel Miller, Jacob Wimmer, Philip Lybrook, recorded May 1, 1786 Franklin County VA. DB 1, pp 30-31.
The abstract refers to page 24 in my online PDF.  So, how do I create a link using the colorized text above, pointing it to page 24 of the online PDF?

Create a regular URL link to the PDF, and then add this at the end of it: "#page=24"

  • Adobe Reader/Acrobat can't open online PDF's Suggestions ???

    Hi There-
I am using Firefox for my browser and if I try to open any online pdf page I get the following message
"The Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your web browser and try again"
I have checked for updates in Firefox, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe reader, which is 9.3 version. But to no avail,,,I still get the same message. Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Sincerely- Doug
P.S. Let me know if you need further information to help diaganose the problem.

I upgraded from OS Leopard 10.5 to OS Snow Leopard 10.6 recently, which is why I mentioned it could be "the" cause or "one" cause of me not being able to read online pdf's. My online pdf bank statements do not open up with Reader 9.3.3. The website simply says I need to download "Asian Font Pack" in order to read the pdf document. I've downloaded all languages, yet I'm still getting the same message. I've also triple checked to see if I have an older version of Reader that might be of hindrance. I only have 9.3.3 installed.
I am able to read pdf's already downloaded on my computer, just not the online pdf's I want to open.
So, I'm not sure if the problem is Adobe Reader or me upgrading to Snow Leopard (since I was able to read pdf's with Leopard).
I hope this clarifies my previous plea for help. Thanks.
    Alan

  • Mysteriously added text downloading to Acrobat Create PDF Online

Working on Acrobat.com's create an online pdf web page I
downloaded a Word Document from my pc to Acrobat.com and opened the
Word document (on Acrobat's web site) to find the document
different than the original Word document on my pc.
The Word document (as well as the pdf conversion displayed
next to it) on the Acrobat.com web page mysteriously had an added
line of text showing a previously unknown date (January 9, 2006)
inserted before the body of the original text but under the
original page header. The font also looked slightly different
throughout the body and header of the document and the document
itself was extended to 3 pages long instead of 2. In the conversion
the now added 3rd page also mysteriously included the standard
header and footer and renumbered the first two pages to include
this new 3rd page (page x of 3) in the footer.. When I went back to
the original Word document on my pc nothing was added or changed.
I downloaded another Word document with a different page
header from the same pc to the Acrobat webpage and while that
document looks graphically slightly different there was no text
    added.
It seems that there must be some sort of embedded legacy date
code or script at the beginning of the Word document that while not
visible in either the reveal codes side pane, or showing up in any
way when working or printing the document in Word is somehow
revealed in the text of the document when downloaded to the Acrobat
site even before its converted to a pdf file.
    How can I manage this?

I am using Windows XP Professional O/S and Firefox as my
browser. I get that the font options will change the file as opened
at Acrobat that may change the layout,
    but,....
how do you explain the mysterious extra date 'string' that
appeared at the start of the word document as it showed up at
    Acrobat's website?
Since this is standard out of the box Word and included fonts
(garamond 12) why does this do this.

  • PDF file linking on a CD (Acrobat Pro / InDesign CS3)

Weve put 9 pdf documents on a CD (made in Mac InDesign CS3) for a client. The original plan was to hyperlink them together using icons (representing the other pdfs) that appear on each page of each document. Unfortanately were on to plan B as InDesign pdf links stop working once you copy them onto the CD.
Is there a way to globally or automatically to apply hyperlink hotspots in Acrobat Pro? While I know I can make links that work on a CD in Acrobat Pro -- the best I could do in this case was pasting and repositioning link hot spots by hand on every page - and that was just one document.
    Any suggestions?
    Phil

Will the Interactive PDF, along with the Word doc be written to the CD? And your hopes are the user will insert CD, open PDF, click link in PDF which opens Doc in Microsoft Word? You can accomplish this in many ways, but a few questions first...
    1. Does the content need to remain as a Word Document?
    2. Does the Word doc need to reside on CD?
    3. Are you using Mac or PC?

  • Links problem in PDF (opened in web browser)

    Hi,
I have a problem with the way Adobe reader works when it is embedded in Internet Explorer 7.
The PDF is well opened but inside this PDF i have links to others PDF, this links doesn't work inside IE but when the PDF is opened inside Reader it works.
    Some precisions :
    - I have a set of PDF files with references in a hierarchy of directories on the machine
    - I have a root HTML file which is the entry point for the navigation through the PDF files set, a link in this HTML file open a PDF in the browser, then links to other PDF in the first PDF doesn't work
    - If i open the first PDF in Reader, links works
    - Inside the PDF the links seems to be File Links with relative paths
    - I think it's possible that there are security restrictions in Internet Explorer that inactive the links but i didn't found these options
    - i'ts also possible that when the first PDF is open, the current path is incorrect with the relative path of the link
I have no solution with this problem.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks by advance
    Regards

i do NOT think that it is a helpful answer .
You may not think so, but it sounds like a very plausible explanation and a mighty good place to start looking.
In your site definition settings, are your links relative to Document or Site Root?
Which operating system are you using?
Did you get all the latest updates for CS3 since re-installing?

  • Destination Link from PDF to another PDF not working in Browser

I'm linking PDFs by using destination links to get to a specific page of the destination PDF, which works just fine.
Now I'm displaying all PDFs in a browser.
My links are now opening the destination PDF, but instead of opening on the destination page it is opening the first page of the PDF. The destination address seems to be lost or ignored with this link.
Is there any method to get the PDF to open at the destination link page in a browser environment?

I should say the new lines are also being disallowed. Personally, I'd copy to NotePad, then re-copy the bits I wanted to use.

    Hi gignc,
You can't merge comments using any of the Acrobat.com online services (ExportPDF, Adobe PDF Pack, and so on). But you can with an Acrobat subscription. Please see Adobe Acrobat X Standard * Publish comments from other reviewers from instructions.

  • Problem printing Online PDF file

Have a strange problem printing online PDF files. The printer prints all other documents ok - Word, Pages, PDF files that are stored on disk etc. However when i try and print a PDF file online - i.e. online job application form, the printer goes into melt down. It will only print part of the first page then stops. The drive wheel pushes the paper back and forth a few times then stops. I can print each page one at a time but won't let me print all at once.
Any ideas? It does this regardless of which computer I use (both mac's). Makes no difference if the printer is connected direct via USB or Airport.
    Any ideas?
    Colin.

What kind of printer is it? Is the software up to date? Is it possible to provide the URL of the page you are trying to print?
