Acrobat opens every file on my machine....

When I open Acrobat, it opens every file on my machine (or at least until it reaches the limit of how many it can open.)
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Acrobat CS4
Mac Pro / Snow Leopard
Thanks!
Matt

What I meant to say was "every pdf file on my machine" not "every file on my machine".

  • Acrobat DC: Action List opens every file

    Hi to all,
    i installed Acrobat DC on Windows 8.1 and wondering about the behavior of action lists.
    If i run a list (i testes several own lists, e.g. for putting metadata inside), Acrobat opens every PDF the list is running over. The last file remains open.
    Is that normal? Is there a way to switch this. I think opening every file is nit the best for the performance. In Acrobat XI and earlier only have a progress bar.
    Thanks, Klaas

    You're right, it's very bad for performance, but Adobe seem to prefer it that way... It was the same in Acrobat XI, by the way.
    Also the bug that the last file was not closed automatically was present in XI. Sad to hear it was not fixed, but not surprising.

    Thanks for the answer Linc, but how do I check to make sure the back-up process is working if I don't think I need to restore?
    Create a test file with Text Edit (or any other program) and save it to your desktop.
    Run Time Machine from the menu bar.
    When the Time Machine icon in the menu bar stops spinning, drag your test file to the trash.
    Open Time Machine and go back 1 page. You should see your test file on the desktop.

    This is a file association problem. You can change the files Adobe Acrobat can open, but the method depends upon your version of the operating system. There used to be an entry in the Acrobat/Reader Faq on how to do this.

  • Opening  a file from client machine

    Hi All ,
    I have a requirement .I need to <b>integrate / Open </b> an .exe file in the portal and this exe file will reside on every on every client machine from which portal is accessed . Can you suggest me some methods . I have tried with URL iview , but it is not working .
    Thanks
    Aneez
    <b>P.S Guaranteed points for helpful answers</b>

    Hi Aneez,
    In the registry the URL(s) that you add are for the source, not target. So you will have something like;
    URL1=http://<portal>:<port>
    of course this would allow any code run from your portal to open exe files without a warning; so you can add the URLs of individual iViews to your registry if you want a bit more control from a security point of view.
    Where you launch the apps;
    javascript:launchApp('c:\windows\notepad.exe c:\autoexec.bat')"
    I think you can only launch one app at a time, here you pass one string containing the paths to two apps, pass one at a time to the launchApp function.
    Also, try adding four '\' characters each time instead of two, one an escape character for the Java compiler and one an escape character for the JavaScript in the browser.
    Temporarily add
    alert(strCmdLine);
    to your launchApp function to see the exact path that the function is trying to launch, make sure that this path contains one and only one '\' character at each point, eg "C:\Windows\notepad.exe". You can also put the
    obj.LaunchApplication(.....
    line in a try/catch block, put an alert in the catch and see if there's a problem with the JavaScript code trying to launch the app or if the problem is elsewhere.
    As far as using XP goes...... I've used LaunchInIE at a few customer sites but I don't think that any were using XP so I can't say that I've seen this working under XP. Perhaps on the WhirlyWiryWeb website you can find some info about whether or not you can expect this to work under XP.
    Perhaps, if there's another PC in or near your office that has access to your portal but doesn't have XP installed you can try it from there yourself and see if your code is working on that machine but not yours with XP installed.
    I hope this helps,
    Patrick.
    Edit.
    Of course if you're running this from some HTML file on your own harddisk and not from the portal for testing purposes then in your registry the URL that you need to add should be localhost, 127.0.0.1.

  • Open bat file on client machine using webutil

    Hi all.
    I'm on devsuite 10g.
    I want to run a bat file on client machine using client_host function of webutil.
    I have tried first to execute the bat file with mouse double-click in order to check if it is ok, and it works.
    Now I want to execute this file from my form using webutil.
    Here is my code:
    --> with this code I select a file from client machine
    Declare
         LC$Fichier Varchar2(1000):=null ;
         PC$Filtre Varchar2(2000) := '|All files|*.*|' ;
    Begin
         LC$Fichier := WEBUTIL_FILE.FILE_OPEN_DIALOG
         null,
         PC$Filtre,
         'Seleziona un file da caricare'
    If LC$Fichier is not null Then
    :output.apri_file := LC$Fichier ;
    End if ;
    End ;
    --> with this code I execute the file that I have opened
    declare
         cmd varchar2(30000) := null;
    BEGIN
         Cmd := 'cmd /c start "" "' || :output.apri_file || '"' ;
    CLIENT_HOST(cmd);
    END;
    When I execute my form I have this error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ....folder of file opened.
    Can anyone help me to solve this problem??
    Thanks in advance,
    Fabrizio

    When you say the DOS window opens for few second, is your batch file being executed?? did you see the results??
    The answer in NO for both of your questions.
    If I try to drag and drop the file I have error.
    How can I attach an image to this post, so that you can see the error??
    Thanks,
    FabrizioThis seems like a directory or OS level permission issue on the batch file, What is the error you got when you tried drag and drop the batch file in an DOS window???
    I think you need to upload the image to a site and use the markup for the image, include the full URL of the uploaded file between ! (exclamation marks) something like ! http://../post.gif ! without the spaces.

  • Acrobat open a file

    In acrobat (standard version I assume where I can combine files to pdf and convert etc) I am having difficulty to open a file and then give a password to that file. It seems to open in reader. In Adobe acrobat.com and downloading and opening a converted file I can't seem to be able to set up a password for that file. How do I manage please?

    I would recommend going to the Help>Repair and then repeating with Help>Updates. I am assuming the process is the same on the MAC as the PC.

  • Where do I change file preferences to allow opening of files in time Machine? Or can it only be restored?

    TRying to see if photos backed up with time machine are actually on the backup drive. It will not allow to open?

    Go to your photos in Finder, then enter TM interface. When you see that they are there you can cancel.

  • Automate Batch, open every 3 files in a folder?

    I'm doing some work where I mostly do the same things on three files. It's for a game-project and I've got one texture for shadows, one that's the normal diffuse layer and finally one that controls where team-colors go. I've learnt some things about the Actions-tab and can easily open all three files then click F2 and Photosohp CS4 does all the work. Then I simply save the file.
    I was checking with the the Automate -> Batch option if I could do this for an entire folder but I've ran out of luck. It's easy enough with the destination, I just add a prefix to the file-name so it doesn't overwrite anything. However as I see it it's only possible to open every file in the folder after each-other. Is there a built-in feature or can I change the Actions a little to help me with this? The Actions I'm doing is mostly "Select Previous Document" etc. when I've got all three files open.
    Failing in that is there a plugin or something anyone can recommend? If it helps the file-names are identical except for a "_diffuse", "_occulusion" and "_team" at the end so if there's a plugin or even feature that relies on the file-names that would work too. Otherwise this also means the three files are always after each-other in the same order.

    You should look into Scripting for Photoshop (preferably with JavaScript), because what you are describing is not within reach for plain Actions as they can incorporate no conditionals.
    »Adobe Intro To Scripting.pdf«, »Photoshop CS5 Scripting Guide.pdf« and the Sample Scripts (should all have been installed with Photoshop) offer a starting point and one can always ask for advice on the Photoshop Scripting Forum:

    What exactly are the automated steps for the three different »types« of images?

  • Can't associate .pdf files as Acrobat, opens Distiller instead

    I can't associate .pdf files as Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. Instead, opens it opens Acrobat Distiller. When I go to the file association in the Control Panel, it doesn't even show Adobe Acrobat as a program. So I browse & find it & select the Adobe.exe file in the program files in Adobe Acrobat directory, but it does not work. Help!

    I used the Adobe.exe file as the file association to open the .pdf files, but it still does not open Adobe Acrobat & opens the file with Adobe Distiller instead & I don't know why. I can only open the files from within the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional software, but not from file manager or by using explore. I am using Windows Vista as the operating system.

  • How to download a file from server machine to client machine using jsp

    Hi,
    In my application, I have an excel file stored on my server machine. How can I download that excel file on to my client machine using jsp. Is there any other way I can open that file from my machine and save it in my machine using jsp/java?
    Its an emergency for me to do this.
    Can anyone provide me the full code to download a file from server machine as I don't have
    time to browse through various sites.
    thanks in advance,
    Tiijnar

    Please post your code using code tags (click on CODE above the text area, when posting)
    response.setContentType("application/octet-stream");Why octet-stream? Set the correct mime-type.
    String disHeader = "Attachment; Filename=\"filename\"";The filename should just be the file's name. Not the complete path to the file! This will tell anyone where the file is located on the server. It's also inconvenient because by default,the browser will suggest it as the name for the download.
    Your way of writing to the output stream is just plain wrong. See this snippet (picked from [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/07/fileservlet.html])
            BufferedInputStream input = null;
            BufferedOutputStream output = null;
            try {
                // Open streams.
                input = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file), DEFAULT_BUFFER_SIZE);
                output = new BufferedOutputStream(response.getOutputStream(), DEFAULT_BUFFER_SIZE);
                // Write file contents to response.
                byte[] buffer = new byte[DEFAULT_BUFFER_SIZE];
                int length;
                while ((length = input.read(buffer)) > 0) {
                    output.write(buffer, 0, length);
                // Finalize task.
                output.flush();
            } finally {
                // Gently close streams.
                close(output);
                close(input);
            }

  • Open all files in folder?

    i have this working to open a single file in the app "VoltaicHD";
    set theFolder to "PATH:TO:FILES:"
    tell application "Voltaic"
    open theFolder & "00000.MTS"
    end tell
    my question is, how do i tell it to open everything in the folder and not have to specify every filename? would that be done in a loop? a list?
    thanks,
    BabaG

    That should be simple (depending on the level of Voltaic's AppleScript support). This should work:
    set theFolder to "PATH:TO:FILES:"
    tell application "Voltaic"
      open (every file of folder theFolder)
    end tell
    The only reason is might not work is if Voltaic can't deal with scanning theFolder for the files within it, in which case just have the Finder do it - as long as .MTS file are associated with Voltaic, they'll open just fine.

  • Can't open Flash files on Windows XP

    I have Flash Player 9 installed. I can view Flash files
    online in my browsers (IE and Firefox), but when I try to open a
    Flash file on my computer to just play it in Flash Player, it asks
    me what I want to use to open the file. I have searched the support
    documents and looked online everywhere, but can't seem to find the
    problem. Basically, I can't find the actual Flash Player program
    file on my machine. I know it's there, otherwise I wouldn't be able
    to view Flash files in the browser, but I can't view them on my
    local machine.
    I have tried setting the program associated with .swf files
    in folder options to the following, but none of them work. When
    associating .swf files with any of these, it says an update for
    Flash is available. I go through the update, reboot because it says
    it's required, but when I start back up, it just does the same
    thing. I cannot open Flash files (.swf) on my computer, only in the
    browser and none of the paths I have tried setting .swf files to
    open with are actually the Flash Player application. I need to know
    where the Flash Player is on Windows XP.
    HELP?!?!?!
    The paths I've tried are:
    C\WINDOWS\stsyem32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9b.exe
    C:\i386\Flash.ocx
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla
    Firefox\plugins\NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe
    None of them will open Flash files on my local computer. I
    have searched my machine, and those are the only paths I can find
    that have anything to do with the Flash Player. Even though it's an
    Adobe product now instead of a Macromedia product, I can't find
    anything for Flash in any Adobe directories, just Macromedia
    directories.
    Does anyone know how to remedy this? Has anyone else had this
    same problem? Any help would be
    GREATLY
    appreciated!!! It seems like I started having this association
    problem as soon as Flash was switched from Macromedia to Adobe.
    Thanks!

    I found the solution. After searching the web for what seemed
    like an eternity, I found the following on a Google Groups page:
    quote:
    1 - How can I make my PC play a flash file on my local hard
    drive?
    Unless you buy Macromedia Flash (the authoring environment)
    you can't play them just straight off, you have to open them with a
    browser which has the Flash Player plugin installed. To do this,
    either right-click on the .swf and select open with... (internet
    explorer) or open IE and then go to file... open.... etc.
    Then I realized that I started having the problem about the
    time I got my new laptop. I didn't install Flash MX on my new
    laptop because I don't really use it anymore, I use Swish, so I
    didn't install it because I hate installing programs I don't use.
    Anyways, I installed Flash MX on my new laptop and walla, I can
    open .swf files on my machine again.
    I didn't realize I had to have Flash installed (the program,
    not the player) in order to be able to open .swf files on my
    machine as opposed to viewing them in a browser. Guess I know now!
    I thought I'd post what I found in case anyone else had the
    same problem and didn't realize it.
    Thanks!
