Acrobat printer produces corrupt typeface in output

I have Acrobat v9.4.5 installed as the default printer on my Win 7 Pro (x64) SP1 PC. When I print some documents the typeface in the output is seriously corrupted and unreadable. Here is one exacmple from the NY Times website:

I've tried the instructions for print problems in this support page: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/891/cpsid_89178.html
That may not even referncing my specific problem though, and if it is, it references \Adobe\Adobe.Acrobat.Dependencies.manifest but provides Adoble.Acrobat.Dependcies.xml in the link suggested as a replacement.
Can anyone clue me in why Acrobat can't print that page as a .pdf file properly?

Thanks for sticking with me on this. I didn't realize what a hopeless newbie I am when it comes to Acrobat.
I wasn't actually able to follow the steps you outlined but in looking for the job change you mentioned I did find something that worked. I'll pass it along in case it helps someone else.
What I was trying to do is print a page from an article on the NY Times website. You saw the earlier results above. What solved problem is after typing Ctl-P, clicking on Printer Preferences and then unchecking "Rely on system fonts only." Presto....a readable .pdf was generated.
So thanks again for your help. I can stop banging my head against my desk.

How to get Acrobat print dialog in Safari

I am asking this question here as well as in the Win forum as I do not know if it is a Win ony issue:
When IE or Firefox is displaying a .pdf the browser print button, file/print and ctrl-p take you to the Acrobat Reader print dialog and the .pdf itself is previewed and printed. In Safari Win they take you to the browser print dialog and a blank page is previwed and printed. Given the futility of telling users to use the Acrobat print button instead of the browser print button or File/Print, is there anything I can do with the .pdf to get this to work under Safari?

thank you for replying. i got rid of the print dialog box by filling in defaults->spool control->output device in the user profile->own data. And i just set the following in my code:
ltp_control_parameters-no_dialog = 'X'.
ltp_control_parameters-preview = 'X'.
And also previously i mistakenly reset ltp_control_parameters-preview to 'LOCL' (refer to my previous post).

Adobe Acrobat Print Preview not supported

I have Adobe Acrobat 8.2.0 and have been having this issue (not really a problem but it bugs me) where when I go to print a PDF and click on preview before sending the document to the printer I always get this message pop up that says "Preview is not supported." I just like to be able to get an idea of what things will look like before potentially wasting paper.
Is this normal and expected or is there something I can do to get print preview to work?

It's normal and expected because Acrobat has a more powerful printing and preview capability than Preview, so running output through Preview would just dumb it down.
If you set up your Page Setup right, the preview in the Acrobat Print dialog (Copies and Pages) is pretty effective for predicting print size and position relative to the true print margins. For color previewing, if you use Advanced/Print Production/Output Preview in Acrobat it, too, blows away the soft proofing in Preview.

I am currently having a huge problem printing from indesign. I am running CS3 on a hi spec 08 Mac Pro (10.5.2) connected to an Epson 3800 Stylus Pro A2 printer. I keep getting the message <Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem>. I have tried trashing the indesign preferences, I tried a new account... In fact I have just done a clean install of the entire OS. Just can't get it to print. I did have it printing on this machine before and the same document prints from my iMac. The problem seems to be something to do with the print dialogue. If I print WITHOUT checking the Printer settings in the Print dialogue is sends to the print, but the output is shocking as the paper selection is not right and uses photo black not matt black. When I DO check the printer settings and set it all correctly it gives me the <Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem>. Anyone else had this or have any thoughts?

I am seeing this error too, but I've narrowed it down to an isolated set of circumstances. My client has begun rolling out Active Directory integration with Macs on their network. Here are the specifics:
-- Mac OS X 10.5.4, IDCS3 5.0.3
-- Using the Directory Utility, Macs are bound to AD with using the mobile account option (user folder is cached locally on workstation, hosted on the network)
-- The message immediately pops up after clicking 'Print' button in print dialogue.
-- Printers are a couple of different versions of DocuColor (250 and 260) with Fiery RIP front ends. Print queues are hosted on an AD print server and listed as Open Directory under Kind in the Add Printer dialogue.
-- Only IDCS and ILCS3 (13.02) exhibit this problem. PSCS3 (10.01), Acrobat (8.1.2) and Safari do not have the same issue, so it appears to be Postscript related
-- Printers not going through AD (IP or BonJour enabled HP B&W lasers) print successfully when logged in via the networked user. Logging into a local admin account resolves the problem as well.
-- This issue appears on freshly imaged machines, G5s and MacBook Pros, not just an isolated workstation. So its possible there is a problem with the source image, but it was created by another office and I'm just a consultant onsite at another location trying to sort things out. Other workstations still using Thursby's Dave software for file and printer access, running 10.4.11 do not exhibit same issues.

So, has anyone seen the same issues? AD integration appears to be the common thread, but I cannot find the cause.

Please update Acrobat to v11.0.09 and check.
You might want to repair Acrobat from the 'Help' menu and check if it installs the pdf printer back or not.

System crash while printing to Acrobat printer

This is something that has annoyed me for a long time, sometimes while printing to Acrobat (making a PDF), the computer hangs and I have to turn the power off on the computer to shut down. I had this issue with version 7 and when I updated to version 9 the problem seem to go away. Now the PDFs that version 7 crashed on, version 9 wasn't. Tonight that all changed version 7 and 9 are hanging on certain web pages.
The question, is this a problem that's a setting issue or an Acrobat bug or a Windows issue or an explorer issue?
BTW this is a recently installed XP SP3 machine with only Adobe CS4 and Office 2007 on it, nothing else.

Well apparently it has something to do with the Internet Explorer, sort of. If I use Apple Safari it doesn't crash/lock up. But then again Safari is sending page images to the Acrobat printer, while the IE is sending the text as fonts. I also got stuck using winnovative free HTML to PDF Converter as another work around the #$%^ I paid for. Maybe it's not #$%^, but it's still annoying that I've had this problem since version 7 and I'm using version 9 now.

Acrobat Printer doesn't recognize SWF (even if a static/single frame file), as a printable file format! Please fix the issue,
I am confronted with 'The file cannot be printed. Please try opening the file with the correct application and printing from there' and The issue is encountered while dragging one/many SWF into Acrobat Printer's printing list. Its displays that troublesome error.
And, please add CRTL+P feature to print an SWF from Flash Player Standalone.

No, that doesn't work for me. And things seem to be inconsistent. Where it lets you vary the file size (small/medium/large/actual) when large and actual are the same, it doesn't send the actual jpeg file for windows to open. When large and actual size files are different when you toggle between the two, the file seems to go through to my windows pc ok. When I tried this through preview, that's when I noticed this difference, not through just email or Aperture yet. Help!

Copies window printing in VF02/VF03 through output type

Dear Experts,
I have copied the standard smartform of the Invoice into YLB_BIL_INVOICE and i did the modification according to the client's requirement.
In YLB_BIL_INVOICE, i have taken one window type as Copies Window and i have chosen the radio button Original and Copies. In the window I wrote the code for Copies like Original, Factory Copy, Buyer Copy, Triplicate and Marketing Copy based on SFSY-COPYCOUNT checking. I haven't changed the standard program(RLB_INVOICE).
And I have assigned the smartform YLB_BIL_INVOICE and RLB_INVOICE in NACE settings. When I am viewing the print using VF02/VF03 with output type which configured by SD Consultant it is not showing the Copies means if I mention Number of Copies as 4 in print preview it is showing only single Page and when I gave the print with number of copies as 4 Pages are printing 4 copies but the name of the copies is same for all 4 pages like 1st page as Original and 2nd page as Original etc..
I debugged the code and i am getting NAST-ANZAL = 1. in program, I think it should be 4. Please give me some input to resolve this issue?

Where did you give the no of copies as 4? In the message or Print Dialog?
NAST-ANZAL is from message and OUTPUT_OPTIONS-TDCOPIES is from the Print Dialog. For copies window, no of copies is fetched through OUTPUT_OPTIONS-TDCOPIES (or the Print Dialog), thus SFSY-COPYCOUNT is changed accordingly .

Try a NVRAM reset: (but make sure u save your n/w config 1st)
1. power off the printer
2. holding down the select and cancel buttons and powering on
3. release buttons when display reads "permanent storage init"

Did you reinstall using the full three step way?
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

Something is corrupting it.
Check your Login items under the Accounts Pref Pane.
Also check: Macintosh HD:Library:StartupItems
Try removing some to see if the issue remains.

Help, Adobe Acrobat printing issue

My adobe acrobat printing mess up after I update OSX Mavericks.
All the setup is right for regular print, but multiple image comes out.
Printing via photoshop is normal.

The printer is brother hl2270dw. It works fine with acrobat, except the acrobat plug-in under safari. Which means I can not printing file directly from safari, that I have to download then print.

Email prints produce blank pages, both from Mail and from other apps

I've just discovered that, when printing an email from the Mail app, the printer produces a blank page. So far, I've tried the following to no avail:
Trying different print settings
Saving the mail as a PDF, then printing the PDF
Printing the email from my Google account in Safari
Copying the email text into a TextEdit document and printing the document
All produce a blank page, except the Google prints from Safari, which prints the Google logo and the page footers, but omits all the email text. In the end, I resorted to taking a screenshot of the email and printing the image file.
Any similar experiences and possible solutions?
Interestingly, I've recently had problems copying and pasting text from emails, too. Wonder if this is related?
