Acrobat Pro 9.4 - Edit Preferences - Failed to Load Application Resource

I have tried all types of searches and can't seem to nail down an answer to this issue. I am currently running Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 in Windows 7 - 64bit.
I can't pinpoint exactly when this issue started, but I am unable to access the Preferences from the Edit menu ... It displays the error message - "Failed to load an application resource (internal error)."  The program does not crash, but I think that I am starting to recognize various functions that aren't working exactly as I expect .... although I am not certain they are related to this error.
This has just escalated to an Urgent issue for me to resolve ASAP. Any help/advice/solutions would be very much appreciated!!
Thank You!
-SMP

It may partly be a 64-bit issue since AA is apparently a 32-bit application that can run in the 64-bit environment (not that familiar with 64-bit systems, so I may not be stating it correctly. However, I would start by going to the Control Panel>Programs and Features and do a repair on your Acrobat installation. That will hopefully resolve the issue.

I recently bought a new macbook and installed Acrobate Pro. My settings/preferences did not come over and I do not have the same style options for my signature.  It now only allows me three options and the style I have been using for the last year is not there.  How do I add additional options and get my preferred signature style back?

    Hi Amanda ,
Which version of Acrobat are you using?
Which signature style are you talking about?
You can go ahead and try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that works for you .
Use the cleaner tool to uninstall it .Here is the link.
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
You can refer to the following link to re install it .

Purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro XI Student edition from Best Buy and it will not download. It made me download an installer  and then when I went back to download it from the Best Buy digital library and clicked on "Download," nothing happened

I have done both of those and still no luck. I have tried this download on Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox and its the same story on all of them. I have a Windows, also, if that helps

  • The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'.

    Hi,
I'm using Crystal report XI release two with visula studio 2005. I was fcing some problem with my IIS so i reinstalled it.After reunstalling the IIS i'm not able to work withh IIS. when i checked Event log files i found the following error message:
The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'.  The error was 'No such interface supported
I found the following link [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286814] which tells the problem. But this link talk about the problem with crystal report 8.
how can i solve the problem with CRXI.
    Thanks in advance

The MS kbase you found was very, very specific to a particular version of CR and never ever occured in any subsequent versions of CR. As you started to have the issue on reinstall of IIS, I do not see how htis issue would be caused by Crystal Reports. E.g.in this case, I believe that just because the error is the same does not mean it is the same cause.
A troubleshooting suggestion I'd have is to use the utility regmon and see what key is denying access. Regmon can be downloaded from here:

  • Acrobat X  600dpi b&w pdf Edit Object fails to load Photoshop

    Hello:
Adobe Acobat X correctly loads Photoshop when Edit Object | Edit Image is invoked on a color PDF.  But it fails to make the transfer when the pdf is a black and white document image pdf (1 bit per color component).  Instead, the error "Touchup cannot complete this operation" pop-up appears.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Photoshop can't edit black and white images (not 8 bits per color component grayscale, black and white singe bit per color component).  Attempting to open the source document with Photoshop shows it is trying to convert it to RGB -- and only offers grayscale lower than that.
Does Edit | Preferences | Touchup need to have a Page/Object editor specified as well, for this type of image?  It already has Photoshop as the image editor. Would that be Illustrator (not yet installed on my system)?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, I'm looking into workarounds.  But at the moment I'm most interested in the official Adobe answer.  This can't possibly be true, that Photoshop can't edit a 1bpp image -- it's an image, just like an 8bpp image.  So I don't understand why Touchup doesn't indicate what should be done to edit this image, other than an error intercept.

  • Form created in Acrobat Pro 8 not editable in Acrobat Pro XI

I created several forms in Acrobat Pro 8, using LiveCycle Designer. I upgraded to Acrobat XI a few days ago when I learned it was unstable under Windows 7. I am now finding I cannot edit my existing forms in Acrobat Pro XI because it doesn't include LiveCycle Designer. This has apparently been moved into a separate product that will cost me another $300. Moreover, I can't seem to save my existing forms at Word documents to re-import them into Acrobat XI, so I can re-create the forms from scratch. I suppose I could print and scan them, but that will result in a less legible form.
This loss of functionality and cross-compatibility between versions is disturbing. I feel I have just paid $200 to get less functionality than I had before.
It also appears that the most expedient method for creating new forms in Acrobat XI is to upload them to FormsCentral. I am reluctant to upload these to a third-party server, and resent being required to do so in order to maintain any functionality.
Is this an ill-planned marketing strategy to get people to buy another software package (which isn't happening in my case), or is there some work-around I am not seeing here?

To create a form in Acrobat, you first create a PDF that you will be adding form fields to. Normally yo'd create the source document in a program like InDesign or Word, convert to PDF, and place the form fields where they need to go. Acrobat includes a Form Wizard that can attempt to add fields where it thinks they should go, but I rarely use it, preverring to add the fields manually. To do this, select: Tools > Forms > Edit
and you'll be switched to form editing mode. At the top you'll see the various form field tools that you can use to add fields to the document. This type of form is known as an Acroform, as opposed to an XFA form (static or dynamic) that LiveCycle Designer creates.
Acrobat 11 comes with the FormCentral form creation application that allows yo to create forms that can be used with the FormsCentral service. It allows you to export a form to PDF, which can be further edited in Acrobat. FormsCentral can also work with a PDF form (Acroform) that you create entirely in Acrobat.
I think an Acroform is the more versatile type of the three mentioned since they have the widest support in the PDF viewers that are out there, but which you choose depends on your needs. Each have their advantages.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro won't edit document created by Illustrator 2 and saved as PDF

I've tried multiple things, but can't get Acrobat Pro to edit text within a PDF file which was created by Illustrator cs2 "Accumulated text within the attempted selection area is rotated other than horizontal or vertical.  Touchup cannot create a text selection area.".   I've searched google, read help....
Fix was to download NitroPDF.   It quickly and easily edited the text.   So why won't Adobe do it...

The same thing happens with pdf files that are not zip files even if saved from Acrobat Pro on my computer.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.04 update failed

I clicked on the update for 11.0.04.  The update seemed to install.  When I try to launch Acrobat it keeps going into installion mode but eventually just closes.  Installed 11.0.05 with no changes to problem.  Tried to repair it but the repair does not recognize any problems.

You can try this. Not sure if this will definitly help but I hope this should:
    Delete the following preferences folders:
          a) ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/
          b) ~/Library/Caches/Acrobat/
          c) ~/Library/Caches/Acrobat/
          d) ~/Library/Preferences/Acrobat Distiller Prefs
          e) ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/
Here ~ represents your home directory. Empty your trash, Restart the machine and then start the Acrobat.

  • Acrobat Pro 9: PDF Optimizer module refuses to load...

Okay, I have a weird one...
Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.06 - The PDF Optimizer module just decided to stop loading yesterday. You poll the menu item and the window does not appear.
So I followed the usual protocols:
    I restarted - nothing.
    I ran a privilege fix - nothing.
I ran a deeper privilege fix and a drive diagnostic - nothing.
I logged in with a new account - Acrobat's PDF Optimizer module worked - so it must be preference corruption.
I reinstalled the application from the original media and updated it to 9.1 - still no PDF Optimizer.
So... the answer is preference corruption. But the question is, which preferences am I safe to delete?
I really don't fancy killing my suite and having to reinstall everything over again, so if I could pinpoint which prefs to kill to just affect Acrobat it would save me some time and stress...
    Does anyone know?

The generic Acrobat forum wasn't an option when I had to select which community I was allowed to publish the question to... That was my first option.

  • I have adobe acrobat pro 9.  I'm having trouble loading it on my macbook pro.  Any suggestions?

I am trying to load my CD of adobe acrobat pro 9 on my macbook pro, but cannot get it to open.  Any suggestions?

You need to be more specific. what version of OSX? What Mac? Does it even mount the DVD/ volume (i.e. does the icon appear on your desktop)?

  • Download of Acrobat Pro XI does not appear in my downloads, applications, or de

I completed my download of Acrobat Pro XI (MAC OS). It does not appear anywhere. It's not in my applications file, not in downloads, not on my desktop. So where would I have to hunt to find it?

If you used Safari, then go to Window>Downloads
In the Downloads window find the download you need and click on the Magnifying glass
It should take you to the location of the download.

  • Can I install Adobe Acrobat Pro XI Student Edition on multiple computers?

I have a desktop and laptop. Can I use one purchased disk for both?

As far as I know the license restrictions are the same as the regular version, limiting to two installs. Of course, both have to be either MACs or PCs, not a combination. You should be able to find the license agreement under the legal folder of Acrobat.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.0- Edits don't stick

I often need to make adjustments to a PDF created by an automatic accounting process, and then email it to someone else outside my organization. Typically, it involves placing a solid white block (locked) over existing text, and typewriting over that. (Often these don't let me edit text - they are a scan, etc). If I print it, it looks like I think it should. If I email it to someone- sometimes they see the right 'version' and sometimes when they print it out my edits are simply overlayed on the text I thought I had hidden.
    Suggestions?

Use the Redaction Tool for this.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9: Changes/Edits appear on screen but do not print

I place a "white box" with no outline over typed text and then type new corrected text over the white box.  Sort of a virtual whiteout.  Until today it was fine.  Now when I go to print the page, the new changes appear but the original text is also printing out causing the document to look sloppy and unedited.  What is happening?

Sounds like you are using the typewriter tool. That tool and many of the other markup tools are indeed markups. To get them to print you have to select DOCUMENT and MARKUP in the printer menu.
