Acrobat Pro 9, blank lines in text boxes vanish upon save
Folks,
Since I upgraded from Acrobat Pro 8 to 9, whenever I put blank lines in a text box, the blank lines disappear as soon as the PDF is saved.
Here's an example:
- Open a PDF file
- Click on text box tool in the toolbar (or from menu Comments->Comments and markup Tool->Text box tool
- Draw a box on the PDF page somewhere
- Enter "First line", then hit Return twice to add a blank line below, enter "Second line"
- Right now my text box contains two lines of text separated by a blank line
- Hit save
- Blank line vanishes in the text box. Now the two text lines are on adjacent rows.
This did not happen in either Acrobat Pro 7 or 8. I've been using textboxes consistently for years without this silly behavior.
Any suggestions? I've looked through forums and knowledge bases and such to no avail.
I have acrobat pro version 9.0.0 running on XPSP3.

Hello Petros,
I figured out how to make this work, at least on my computer. Hold CTRL key and hit ENTER. This leaves the space. Hope this works for you.

Acrobat 9.2.0 Update Breaks Text Box Tool, Possibly Introduces a New Security Flaw.
Anyone have any ideas for this one?
Once we upgraded to version 9.2.0 (This is a major security release that fixes a Javascript security flaw) our text box tool no longer works the way we want it and crashes the program.
Try this:
1. Open any PDF document on a Windows XP SP3 computer with Adobe Acrobat 9.2.0.
2. Add the 'Text Box Tool' to the toolbar by right-clicking the toolbar and selecting 'MoreTools' then placing a checkbox next to the 'Text Box Tool'.
3. Click the 'Text Box Tool' on the toolbar and draw a new textbox anywhere on the PDF document.
4. Click out of the textbox to cancel typing mode, then single click back on the textbox that you just created.
5. Right-click the textbox that you created and select 'Properties..."
6. Under the 'Appearance' tab,
a. Select Style: No Border
b. Select Fill Color: No Color
c. Check the box 'Make Properties Default'
d. Click OK.
7. Click the Text Box Tool again, and draw another textbox (Since there is no border you will not see it but you will still be drawing a textbox).
8. Let go of the mouse when you are done drawing your textbox rectangle and the program will crash at this point.
Results:
1. "An internal error occurred." dialog box is displayed.
2. After clicking ok the following "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" dialog box is displayed:

Expected results: A new textbox is created and you may start typing in text (This was the behavior in version 9.1.3).
Additional Information
At times, we need to add information to PDF files (i.e missing dates, etc). We have always used the Text Box Tool to do this with no border, and with no fill color as this is the EASIEST and FASTEST way to add information to PDF files in a precise manner. We want the fill color to be transparent so that we can fit text in between and exactly on lines easier, and so that there is not a solid background box behind the text. We want no border because a border around text that needs to go on a line looks stupid. Up until version 9.2 this procedure worked fine. Now, the program will crash. Perhaps this even adds another security vulnerability if the crash could be exploited. We want to maintain security by patching Adobe to address the JavaScript vulnerability that was addressed in version 9.2.0, however, we are not able to update our users as the new version breaks the fundamental purpose that we use Adobe Acrobat for. We are stuck with the vulnerable version 9.1.3 until this problem is addressed. Disabling JavaScript is not an option either, as we use a Java plug-in on a daily basis.
Any thoughts would be great, I have attached screenshots of the errors.The question still is not answered.
The problem continues in Acrobat 8.1.7 for Windows, even after updating toAcrobat 8.2.0. ( I can't comment on whether recent updates to Acrobat 9 fix the problem in Acrobat 9.)
The internal error after text insertion problem occurs even with PDF documents created in Acrobat 8, i.e., not only old versions of PDF files. We have the text box insertion icon in the toolbar, and the properties set to "no color" for the box and "0" width for the text box lines, as other commentators have noted.
The problem did not exist when Acrobat 8 Pro was installed, it was introduced by one of the updaters.
The main reason we use Acrobat, rather than much cheaper PDF-creation software, is to annotate PDF files (including inputting data into spaces in standard forms).
So justify the high price of Acrobat and fix the problem please, Adobe ! -
Acrobat 9: Control over font in text box
Versions: OS X 10.8.5 with Acrobat Pro 9, latest patch.
I am experimentally preparing a four day training course by adding my instructor information to a PDF of the slide show. There are only 850 slides, so it makes sense to experiment with this small document.
All is going well. I have created some custom stamps. Acrobat has only crashed twice, losing not more than two hours work as a result. I am optimistic I will be good to go in 10 more days.
I have just copied some test into a text box and it copied as black and blue text with a larger font than the standard red font that I have been seeing until now.
It occurs to me that this implies there may be some control over the text. I realize that Acrobat is not meant to be a document preparation tool, so I hunted around somewhat for a way to change the text box text to not-red, gave up and I have been putting up with it until now.
However, there are implications (but no clearly stated solutions) that there is a way to change the font, size and colour of text in text boxes.
Do you know how? I cannot work it out, nor can I find a solutoin. I can see that the Commenting preference pane offers Small Medium and Large text. There does not seem to be any other control other than the style (italic, bold, superscript, subscript) that is offered in the context menu.
Hints? Thoughts?Pryanja.
Thanks again. If offers a dropdown for Colour, a box for style (plain, bold italic etc) and a button marked more, but they seem to do nothing at all. They don't change what I type, and they don't affect selected text. Looks to me tha they just take up some toolbar space.
Is it possible that it does not work on Mac? -
Acrobat 9 hangs when adding a text box
It seems that any installation of Acrobat 9 I have come across, Acrobat hangs when adding a text box from "Forms>Add or Edit Fields".
I may need to apply an update or two but this problem seems very consistent and reproducable.
I plan on trying Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows XP to see if it makes any difference, but does anyone have any ideas? OTHER than upgrading to Acrobat X?Textbox takes few extra seconds to establish himself, but it never hangs for me. Did you tried to click-n-drag to create Textbox?

Comparing two PDFs using Compare Documents utility in Acrobat Pro in command line
I have a need to compare two PDFs based on text, images, annotations, formatting, headers/footers, styles etcetera. The Adobe acrobat pro tool is working very good as per my requirements. I need to call it through Java program or command line. It could be something which takes the two PDFs as argument and compare options as Pro version have - text, images, annotations, formatting, headers/footers and background and generates the list of differences. It could return the differences either in a form of pdf document highlighting the differences or the map which is mapping something like page numbers to the details of differences that are appearing.
This would be very helpful. Please answer asap.

For server-based PDF operations you can look at Adobe LiveCycle products or our Adobe PDFLibrary (available in both Java and C++) -
Skipping Blank Lines in text File
I am working on an assignment in which i have to read from a text file and store the strings individually. The problem i have is that the text file has blank line between each set of strings. So i figured to use "fin.nextLine();" to skip that blank line and continue with storing the values. but i get

Blank line in text file after download
Hi all,
i am using the below code to get the 254 blank spaces at the end of the text file & it's comming correctly.
generally i am downloading 2 lines in the original program & i am getting one blank line in between these two lines.
The main thing is that i am getting this blank line when i run this program in my office computer. But i am not getting this blank line when i run this same program in my home laptop. Please suggest why this blank line is appearing & any solution ?

Objects (lines) and text boxes are not able to be made bigger or smaller
first of all: For no reason at all, all of my text boxes are now set up as threaded text. I dont know how that turned on. When i go to "type"
and try to select "threaded text" it wont allow me to select it - it is not highlighted. So I have no clue
how to turn this off. Now I can not stretch my text boxes to suit whats in them - ie: make them bigger or smaller, ie: there are only two boxes to drag - one at either side of text box and they wont allow me to drag them to make the box bigger - only to move the entire box (before there were 4 boxes to manipulate the size of the text box - one on each corner - now there are only two) and this seems to apply
to many other objects now. when i draw a line, I have to make sure that line is the exact right size because once i draw it - it wont allow me to make it bigger or smaller - it only allows me to move it to a different place - i dont understand what is happeningthanks for writing back

i dont know how to turn bounding boxes on or off so I can not answer that question.
yes i should be able to resize the bounding text box by dragging and ive always been able to do that. however I can no longer do that. the usual bounding text box that i am accustomed to has little teeny boxes all around the entire box - in each corner - so i can drag each corner easily
this set up that has currenly taken over my illustrator program has only TWO little teeny weeny boxes that when selected wont allow me to drag them to resize at all. when i double click on one of these two little teeny boxes it gives me the thread text tool... which i dont want and have never even used before
i just want my text boxes and everything else to go back to normal so i can drag them to resize them again
does that make more sense or have i explained it better?

123.2The problem with trim() is that it only trims spaces (0x20). In a source code file, "blank" lines are as likely to contain TABs as spaces. I would recommend something like if (line.length() == 0 || line.matches("\\s+")) If the inefficiency of matches() becomes a problem, you can use a pre-compiled Pattern object, or roll your own isItWhitespace() method.

How do I get rid of various lines around text boxes when using navigation panes
How can I get rid of these various lines that are displaying sporatically around different text boxes . . . but only when the navigation panel is displaying? I previously had the issue and changed the text box properties to no fill. It fixed the problem in the document with no navigation panel, but once the navigation panel is displayed the lines appear. And yes, I fixed the text box properties before creating the bookmarks for the navigation panel.
Every device, browser and browser version has its idiosyncrasies.
Just using a stroke and a drop shadow should not have been enough to require Muse to convert the page fill to an image. Were/are there also other effects on the page? Are the page corners slightly rounded?
Bevel and Inner Glow definitely require an image to be created. Most other effects/properties do not. -
IDCS2- How do I create lines in text boxes?
I am working on a fill-in keepsake book that has many pages of prompts followed by journal lines. i.e. "The best part of the trip was____" and "People we met___" etc. I know there is a way to create the text box so the lines fill-in around the text and look nice and even, but can't seem to find it in the help or manual. Anyone know? Thanks!

Grid lines after text box removed
I put a text box in a Numbers spreadsheet. The text box covers an unused part of the grid. Later I delete the text box, don't want it after all. The grid lines underneath where it was are gone. How do I get them back? This is not just on my display. The spreadsheet prints out with that section of grid lines missing too.
I am not talking about cell borders that may be added, just the underlying grid lines on the spreadsheet.

Acrobat pro 8 - blank screen and crashing!
OK all of a sudden, pdf's that I could view before come up with a blank page.
Plus I am getting a heap of Acrobat crashes.
Can't think of anything new that has been done on the Mac that might cause this.
Re-installed Acrobat Pro but still no joy.
Help please.Had the same issue, removing all user prefs, plists and cache files fixed it for me.
There are a lot of them in different places, I had 2 goes.
The test here is if Acrobat works correctly in a new user account, if it does then have another go.
