Acrobat Pro 9 won't size PDFs correctly.

I upgraded to a Windows 7 computer and Acrobat 7.0 wouldn't work with it anymore, so I bought 9.0 pro. However, It absolutely will not change the page size and converts everything to 8.5 x 11 no matter how I change the settings. How can I correct this, it's driving me nuts and wasting my time and I can't get anything done! Thanks in advance for whatever help can be offered.

First thing to do is ask yourself why you are posting this in an InDesign Software Development Kit forum ...

  • Acrobat pro 9 won't open pdf files

Just downloaded trial version of pro 9 for Mac.  I tried to install pro 8 and found out that it is not compatible with snow leopard.  The uninstall in version 8 is also not compatible with snow leopard.  So I had all kinds of trouble uninstalling version 8.  This may be the problem.  I finally got version 8 off the Mac but the uninstall may not be complete.  I installed version 9 and I'm having all the same problems that I did after I installed 8.
The uninstall of version 9 worked and I tried reinstalling it.  Still won't open a pfd file.  The main problem is that I get the following error when I click on a pdf file.
"The document “5 Chptr 2010.pdf” could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the “Adobe PDF document” format."
What do I need to do to get version 9 to work????
Also when I click on the Acrobat icon in my tray the program does not launch.  All I get is the menu bar at the top of my screen.  On my windows machine when I open acrobat I get the "wizard" screen that allows me to select what tasks I want to do.  And when I try to create a pdf file from a msoffice word document it won't allow me to convert the document.  I get the following error message.
"Acrobat could not open 'This is a test document.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications."

    Hi rms,
Have you installed Acrobat X and XI Pro both on the same Mac.
Adobe doesn't recommend coexixting different versions of the same software.
Please remove both the versions and install any one of them and then check.
Also make sure you have updated Acrobat to the latest patch.
    For 10 it's v 10.1.9 and for 11 it's v11.0.6

  • Ever since I downloaded Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker and Save As PDF have not worked, but instead cause MS Word 2013 to crash.

Ever since I downloaded the Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker has not worked, but instead causes MS Word 2013 to crash. I cannot find the cause or the solution.

OK I will try to elaborate this time with pictures so it is clear what I am asking and what the issue I am facing is.
The specific option I want to be able to use from within the Adobe Acrobat Pro user interface is
    File\Create\Batch Create Multiple Files
When I select that menu item a floating tool bar thing pops up that I can drag and drop files onto.
If I drag excel or powerpoint documents onto it and press OK it converts them fine.  If I drag MS word documents into it the documents appear in the list but when I click OK it says no files processed.
In the process of troubleshooting I also tried using the Add Files button.  That is when I discovered that MS word documents (*.doc, *.docx) are not showing up in the list of supported file types.
The same thing happens when I try converting a single file using the File\Create\Create PDF From File menu item. Just like above the MS word documents do not show up in the list of supported file types.
Looking in my registry entries as suggested by the article linked to by one of the posters above I can see both *.doc and *.docx types registered in the correct place.
Unless I can use the batch convert command as intended by the time my trial period runs out in 13 days I cannot justify buying this software. If converting the documents one at a time was acceptable I would just use Save As PDF from within MS Word which works just fine. I need the batch convert function so I can convert my whole library of word documents to PDF at once.
    Any further assistance greatly appreciated!

  • Possibility to execute Acrobat Pro's "Combine files into PDF" function from within SAP?

    Good day.
Presently, a company uses Acrobat Pro to manually combine files such as *.pdf, *.jpg, *.doc, which have been downloaded from SAP's Document Management System, into one pdf file. I would like to know if it is possible to automatically execute Acrobat Pro's "Combine files into PDF" function from within SAP (ECC 6.0) application system. I'm wondering if this could be achieved from a program via OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) or RFC (remote function call).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and inputs.

Yes, you can combine PDF files via IAC/COM methods.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X will not open PDFs

    Hello,
My Adobe Acrobat Pro X will not open PDFs.  This happens twice a month and is becoming extremely irritating.  I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, repairing and a system restore.  What can I do to make this problem go away?
    Thank you.

To check that it is an Acrobat problem, open Acrobat from the programs list and try to open a PDF from the file menu. I suspect this will work fine from what I read into your post. I suspect that somehow your OS is changing file associations. In that case, right click on a PDF and select Open With>Select Default Program and then select Acrobat. Be sure the check box for default program has been checked.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 does not open pdf on web

I have just done a clean installation of Win Vista Home Premium, and put CS4 on it. I always throw out a lot of links and programmes that come with a re-install, but may have thrown out too much this time: Acrobat Pro 9.1.3 opens pdf's just fine as long as they are on my hard disk. It does not open pdf files on web sites.
I remember trying to delete the link to Acrobat.com that has nestled itself at the top of "All Programs". Its icon has dissapeared, but otherwise it seems ok. It seems unlikely that that has anything to do with my not being able to open pdf's on the web, but I mention it anyway.
Anybody any ideas and remedies? Thanks.

I just realised the same pdf on the web is opened properly by Acrobat Pro when the site is open in IE. It does not work in Firefox 3.5.2, however.
I pointed in Firefox Tools > Options > Applications the application to open pdf's to Acrobat 9.1 . It does work now, but in a rather weird fashion: Acrobat seems to sort of swirl into my Firefox window. Never mind, the pdf's do open.

  • Purchased acrobat pro but won't open

Purchased acrobat pro but won't open when I sign in

    Hi Coloredge,
What operating system are you on, and what happens when you try to open Acrobat? Do you receive any sort of error message?  Did you run into any trouble when you downloaded and installed Acrobat?
I look forward to hearing back from you so that we can get to the bottom of this.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Does Acrobat Pro read the content in pdf file and transforms it?

Does Acrobat Pro read the content in pdf file and transforms it to xls file without the need for much changes or manual work?

Acrobat X (Standard and Pro) will save tabular data to XLS or XLSX format, provided it can recognize the table as being a table. If the PDF has missing or incorrect structure tags, Acrobat will try to guess the table layout by the position of text and lines on the page - this works well for basic formatting but if the table has complex styling, spanned cells etc. it can lead to problems.
Acrobat X will even attempt to export a table within a scanned document, by applying OCR during the export stage - though again this relies on the table being visually identified.
See http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/pdf-to-word-excel-converter.html and this article on how to extract one table from a larger document.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI unability to open pdf mail attachments

Since upgrading to Adobe Acrobat Pro XI I am unable to open most pdf attachements on outlook. The message is that the file is corrupt or was encoded wrong. How do I correct this.

    Hi Pat
I tried to save the attachment to the hard drive in Outlook 2013.
When opening the file in acrobat the error says that the file is either not a supported type or damaged (incorrectly encoded)
I have Acrobat Pro XI version 11.0.10 and windows 7 64 bit installed. It worked perfect on Acrobat pro X until about December 2014. In tried a repair, a clean install of XI. The files are bank statements. It works on Mac and Adobe reader, so the files must be correct.

  • Uh-oh, Acrobat Pro 9 opens all recent pdfs automatically!

For some reason Acrobat now wants to open every pdf in my recent history folder when the application opens.  Since I work with large print files, this 'feature' locks up my 6GB of RAM quickly enough to bring my computer to its knees in a matter of seconds.
I'm running Windows 7 x64, but I had this happen to me on my Windows XP workstation a few months ago.  I ended up reinstalling the program to fix it, but does anybody have an idea of what causes this or if there is a registry edit I can make to delete my pdf history?
Thank you, you smart, sexy people.
    Brian

    Anton,
I to had this problem just today and could not find any good help on file associations. I am running XP Pro on Windows. I uninstalled CS2 and still had CS3 on the computer. All associations for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop went away. The only information I could find did not work.
This is what I did and it worked. I opened Control Panel, then File Options, and then the tab "File Types". I scrolled to the INDD extension and highlighted it. Then I chose the Advanced Tab, selected "new", typed in "Open" for the action and selected the InDesign.exe file. All Indd files associated with InDesign CS3.
I also repeated the same to get the AI and PSD files to associate.
I hope this is the right way to make the change, no guarantees, but so far it is working. Even CS and CS2 file versions show the CS3 logo and open correctly.

  • Acrobat Pro V8 problem with rotating PDFs

I have CS3 suite with Acrobat Pro V8.1.2 running on OSX 10.5.4.
I rotate PDFs for our printer (photographic Lightjet430 laser printer using postershop) it saves time, and it also makes things easier for us in general.
Now I sometimes rip the PDFs into photoshop, this is where my problem starts.
If a PDF say 500mm wide X 2000mm high is rotated in Acrobat and re-saved so now 2000w X 500h. If I open this in Photoshop it shows me a preview as 2000wx500h BUT the size is reported as 500w X 2000h. If you then rip this PDF it will rip as 500mm wide X 125mm high (Wrong). The only way around this is to rotate this PDF back to 500w X 2000h then rip again and it will then rip as 500x2000.
Now if I get this PDF and rotate using OSXs Preview, it will work. I open the PDF that I rotated in Preview and photoshop will show and tell me that it is 2000Wx500H and it rips as 2000x500.
I have 7 other Macs with the same setup and they all do the same thing. I got a friend on a PC using XP and Acrobat 8.1.2 and it also did the same thing.
Using another PDF program on his PC made it work.
Now for some reason the Newer version of PosterShop 7.1 (wasn't a problem with Postershop 6.5) is doing strange things with PDFs rotated in Acrobat Pro V8.1.2. A PDF rotated in Acrobat to a Landscape will open as a Portrait. Leave the PDF as a Portrait and it will open as a Portrait. Now rotate the same file using Preview to a Landscape and Postershop will open it as a Landscape.
Its like something in the PDF is not being changed to say its rotated, so both Photoshop and postershop get it wrong. Now the problems in Postershop may not be related, but even Photoshop is seeing this and ripping it wrong.
Is there any thing I could try?
I have got the rest of the team using Preview atm to rotate files for now.
    Thank you.

My biggest issue GKaiseril is that this is something developed at a higher level than my department. You can find the Fillable PDF and Excel conversion spreadsheet at : www.dodprocurementtoolbox.com. I am not apart of the development team, just apart of a property team trying to get our attachment right. This has been an ongoing issue we've tried to resolve for a while now. The solution I posted above makes the file work, but I don't know if its a "solution" or a temp fix. If I can figure out what the actual issue is, I can suggest an actual fix to the machine or process.

  • Acrobat Pro XI won't download to my 64 bit Win Vista Machine - Why?

Is it because it runs on an AMD Turlon 64 bit processor or is It Vista, the dinosaur?  Any help with how to proceed would be appreciated... I bought the "car" (Acrobat Pro XI), but the Dealer (Adobe) won't let me park it in my garage (Laptop) because the roof is 5 years old on my house. I jest, but you get the analogy...
All i really want to do is password protect a PDF that I was sent and then filled the form and want to email to someone else and I don't want just anyone to be able to open the completed form...any tips here and maybe I can return the car to the dealer.. haha

Thanks for the info on security.  Not sure the other party I am intending to send the document to is technically capable  to handle certificates.
i Suppose if I could use a 128 hashed key as the password, it might be "good enough".
On a lighter side, a halfway decent password (non dictionary words) is STILL better than shopping at a Billion $$ Furtune 1000 company like Target, Home Depot, or TJ Mexx to name a few (100 Milion cumomter account info stolen)..
To continue my analog, I'm not ready to build a new grage for the new car just quite yet.... so the car goes back to the dealer...
So, I am still looking for a way to pasword protect a PDF. Does it need to occur at time of  PDF document creation?
thanks in advance if someone knows a solution to my Password issue.

  • Can I re-scale scanned documents in Acrobat Pro (can't print drawings to correct scale)

I have several scanned drawings of my house (originals is pre-CAD) that when printed instead of e.g. 1:400 is 1:330 and 1:100 is 1:130 and similar. This "odd" scale is ok for me personally but not the people at the building inspection department that need to approve the small updates I've done.
So it would be good to be able to say in a document that this distance should be Xmm when printed.
The method I'm using now is to use custom scale when printing e.g. choose 87% instead of 100% but this method is very paper and time consuming for several drawings with slightly different scale problems. And I would like to correct this in these pdf-drawings so I don't have to bother with this in the future.
Is there a way to handle this?
Edit: Using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

  • Acrobat Pro X - Combine files to pdf not available in windows explorer

I recently upgraded to Acrobat Pro X. With my previous version I could select a group of files, right click and the pop-up menu would allow me to select to combine the files into a pdf. This feature is no longer available after installing Acrobat Pro X. I am using Windows 7 Professional x64. Did Acrobat fail to install properly or was this feature eliminated?

    See this post.
