Acrobat Pro opens lots of files...

Hello,
since a week or so every time i open Acrobat Pro (9.1.3) or double click a pdf Acrobat will open lots of pdfs until the limit of open pdfs is reached - then i get the message, that too many files are open - followed by o.k.. If i click o.k. the message comes up again and again and again... - so i cannot change any setups or even view them.
I reinstalled Acrobat Pro and did the updates - repaired disk permissions - nothing changes. Any idea - please!
(MacBookPro, Intel, lots of RAM..., 10.5.7)
Do i really have to reinstall the whole Package (Creative Suite 4)??? - Will it really change anything???
Greetings

This has been popping up here and there. In both the Windows and Mac forum. I think on the Mac side an emptying of the system and user cache has been reported to fix the problem. This is much easier than re-installing the app. This can be done with Applejack at boot in single user mode or with Onyx in Mac OS X after which you have to reboot your system. If it happens again you might give this method a try.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro cannot find moved files or files with edited names

Adobe Acrobat X Pro 10.1 cannot find recent files or files with edited names.
For instance, if a PDF file is moved in the hard disk from one foder to another, Acrobat cannot find it when trying to open it via "File - Open Recent File".
Likewise, if the name of the file is changed in the Finder.
Similarly, if a PDF file is open, it is marked with the yellow fluorescent marker of Acrobat, its name is then changed in the Finder and later on you try to save it, Acrobat says that it cannot find such file.
Yet, applications like Microsoft Word do not have any of the above problems. It would be great if Adobe could fix these serious productivity issues, which have plagued Acrobat for many years now.
How to send such feedback to Adobe?

  • Acrobat Pro X crash and file corruption

I'm having an issue with Acrobat Pro X. While I was using the touchup reading order tool to select a form field, Acrobat crashed. Now, when I attempt to open the file, I'm getting a message that states "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." I'm not sure how this occurred and I don't believe it was something I did since I was not doing anything out of the ordinary when it happened.
Is there any way around this issue that would allow me to open this file?

The file is corrupt. Either it was corrupt which caused the crash or the crash caused the corruption. But your file is toast. Best solution is to restore the file from backup.

  • Could not find the application that created this file Acrobat Pro XI and .pptx file

    Hi,
I just installed Acrobat Pro XI and I am trying to combine files into one pdf. The combine feature works fine with Word, excel, other pdfs but does not work with powerpoint files (.pptx). I have searched and found others have been having this issues for many past versions. I found a workaround (print the powerpoint to pdf and then merge the files) but I should not have to do it that way. Can someone help me out? Powerpoint is installed on my computer, the print pdf function works, and the Adobe add-in is active (these are the 3 solution I keep encountering) but it still will not combine a powerpoint file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You,
    Steve

    Hi Stephen ,
Could you please elaborate a bit more  that what exactly happens when you try to combine .pptx file?
Do you get any error message?
If yes ,please share the screen shot of the same.
Are you facing  challenge with the powerpoint files only?
I have tried the same on my end and it is working perfectly fine .
Try updating your Acrobat to the latest version .
    Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help>Check for Updates .

  • Acrobat Pro opens all my PDFs when starting the program

When I try to open Acrobat Pro to read a document, it instantly opens up every PDF on my computer until I force-quit it. I've tried trashing the Adobe Acrobat preferences and rebooting, but the problem persists.
I'm using a Macintosh with OS 10.5.7. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this? I need to read docs through Acrobat and I can't access them now.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've just spent ages trying to get AppleJack to work on my Mac OS X 10.5.7 and nothing happens. I've installed it twice and the application doesn't show up. I rebooted and held down command and s but still nothing. How do I access it? And since it seems to be more of a developer's tool, will I mess things up since I'm not a developer (or even close)?
Startup  or restart in single user mode. Command(Cloverleaf/Apple) key - S
wait for B & W Screen wait till all text load and show a Blinking (Block type) Cursor/prompt. at Prompt type AppleJack.
    Follow the directions.

  • Opening Acrobat Pro Opens ALL PDFS

I have a real glitch. When I open Acrobat Pro for some reason it opens all of my pdfs... I mean all, every PDF I have opens in the past on my computer opens, and I have to force quit. Any help?

This is a real bug...many folks on both Windows and Mac sides are experiencing it...I'm surprised Adobe hasn't patched it yet. Something is launching everything in your History cache.
The only solution I've had success with is to
NOT force quit it (it'll just do it again the next time you launch),
let it open all of the windows,
option-click close on the last window opened,
    quit Acrobat,
    then restart it.
It hasn't happened in a few months since we let it "run its course."

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard -vs- Adobe Acrobat Pro (for large PDF files)

I need to make a PDF from approximately 600 photos. Is the application Adobe Acrobat Standard competent to achieve this task? Or is it preferable to purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro and why?

Neither has particular limits relevant to this.
If you are making for professional publishing, Acrobat Pro contains print production tools.
However, be aware that YOU DO NOT LAY OUT DOCUMENTS OR MAKE BOOKS IN ACROBAT. Sorry to be emphatic, but some people have received the view that it replaces Word, InDesign, Publisher or whatever. It doesn't.

  • Do I have to install Adobe Acrobat Pro to edit PDF files?

I am subscribed to Adobe PDF Pack.
I want the ability to drag and drop to insert, delete, and arrange pages. So it appears I need Adobe Acrobat Pro. Is that correct?
If I upgrade to Adobe Acrobat Pro, do I have to install anything on my PC? Or can I simply drag and drop to insert, delete, and arrange pages online (in my browser) using the same login I use now for Adobe PDF Pack?
I don't want to install anything. Hence my question.
    Thank you!
    Bob

    Hi robertm33760217,
Yes, You would need Adobe Acrobat Pro to insert, delete, arrange pages.
Yes, You would need to Instal the Acrobat software on your pc as Acrobat software won't work with your browser.
Do you have any other query?

  • Double-clicking to open files stops working after opening lots of files.

When I double-click a file it will open the file in CS6 version 13.0.1, but then after a while double-clicking will no longer open jpeg or raw files.  I can open the same files by going to File > Open in the Menu Bar.
When I am simply opening downloaded files from my camera, I can open 200-300 by double-clicking with no problems.  However, at times when I am working on an image, it is not long before I can't open a file by double-clicking.  It will open a blank Photoshop window, but without any Toolbar or Menu Bars.
This happens on a regular basis.  Sometimes, also, Photoshop is slow to Quit, for no apparent reason.
Is anyone aware of this problem?

    Still having this problem.
If I open a jpeg and just change the name, then Save As to a folder, I can then open another jpeg by double-clicking.
However, whenever I open a jpeg and make changes to the image in Photoshop, then Save As to a folder, I can then no longer open a jpeg by double-clicking.  Photoshop will open, but the jpeg will not open.
Since this only happens after making changes to a jpeg in Photoshop, it seems to me the problem is with something in Photoshop, and has nothing to do with my OS.

  • Numbering a Drawing in Acrobat Pro

We receive a lot of blueprints from our customers in PDF format.
Currently, we print out the drawing, then we draw circles next to each dimension on the drawing, and put a number in the circle; 1,2,3,4 ... 205,206, etc.
We have experimented with the Annotation tools in Acrobat, but it's not faster than doing it by hand.  It isn't modal, nor will it do it sequentially.
    So I would like to:
    1)  Using Acrobat Pro, open a PDF file that is a blueprint (mostly raster, some are vector).
    2)  Activate a function for numbering.
    3)  Click with the mouse at each location, which would put a sequential number there, then a circle around it.
    4)  Save the drawing away with the new Annotation layer containing the numbering.
I'd rather just hire somebody to write a Javascript for Acrobat script that does this, but after much searching, I can't find anyone who uses Javascript for Acrobat in real life.  Contacting Adobe has been fruitless.
I've written similiar routines in other languages but I have zero experience with Javascript.  I've tried to find a tutorial for JFA, but have come up empty.  Many of the links on the Adobe site that are on Google are busted.
If I could see a "Hello World" program that puts Hello World where the mouse is clicked on the document, I could do it.  But I'm not finding how to even the basics on how to launch a custom JFA application, much less what one looks like.
    Any help would appreciated.

  • Making PDFs Fillable - Why are they 3xs the size of the Original w/Acrobat Pro 9

    What I'm Doing:
I have been creating documents out of InDesign that I export to PDF Format and then go into Acrobat 9.0 Pro to make fillable.  In Acrobat 9.0, I'll begin with a PDF that is around 1M.  Normally, once the fields are added it may increase to file size of about 1.3M.
    What Has Changed:
Yesterday, I replaced on of my fillable PDF documents that was previously more pages with more fillable fields with an updated PDF (using replace pages and deleting the extra pages).  The PDF I replaced the old document with went from 1.3M to 4.3M.  Even when I went to Advanced and Optimized the PDF to remove fields etc. the file remained over 4M.
    What Doesn't Make Sense:
A colleague who has an older version of Acrobat Pro, opened my fillable file and just resaved it and it went back down to 1.5M.  He did nothing to it but open it, save it and close it in his version.
    Help!
Does anyone know what is making my fillable PDF so bloated?  Is there somewhere besides PDF Optimize that I should using to make the file size smaller?

I think he did us Save As.  I tried it, just to see and it didn't change the size for me.  I called Adobe for help and they suggested I use "Document, Reduce File Size" which did reduce it from 4.02M to 4.01M.
    Reduce File Size:
I tried Reduce File Size again and chose to reduce to Acrobat 4.0 and later, but received an error that there was an open embedded OpenType font.
    Unembedding:
So, I unembedded all of the fonts, which brought it down to 3.85M.
    Reduce File Size:
Then I ran Reduce File Size again and it went to 3.84M.
    Save As:
Then I did a "Save As" and it went to 3.70M.
    Result:
Still not as dramatic as my colleague's save from 4M to 1.5M.

  • Cannot create a Response File in Reader X from form created in Acrobat Pro 9

I created a form in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I distributed the form using option "Manually collect responses in my email inbox" and "Save a local copy and manually send it later". When I send that form and get a response, I open it in Adobe Reader X but I do not get the pop-up option to save to a Response File. I do get that option to save to the response file if I open the file with Adobe Reader 9. Has anyone else seen this problem and is there a solution?

I figured a way around this in case anyone has the same problem in the future. I just opened Acrobat Pro X, clicked combine files into PDF, selected the file I wanted, saved the "binder" as PDF then saved another version as Reader Extended PDF. I think this helped because it essentially creaded a whole new PDF with the old PDF in it and getting rid of whater hashes or document properties in the last one that wouldn't allow it to work in Reader. Opens perfectly on other computers.

No problem if I use Chrome
    Help

OK I will try to elaborate this time with pictures so it is clear what I am asking and what the issue I am facing is.
The specific option I want to be able to use from within the Adobe Acrobat Pro user interface is
    File\Create\Batch Create Multiple Files
When I select that menu item a floating tool bar thing pops up that I can drag and drop files onto.
If I drag excel or powerpoint documents onto it and press OK it converts them fine.  If I drag MS word documents into it the documents appear in the list but when I click OK it says no files processed.
In the process of troubleshooting I also tried using the Add Files button.  That is when I discovered that MS word documents (*.doc, *.docx) are not showing up in the list of supported file types.
The same thing happens when I try converting a single file using the File\Create\Create PDF From File menu item. Just like above the MS word documents do not show up in the list of supported file types.
Looking in my registry entries as suggested by the article linked to by one of the posters above I can see both *.doc and *.docx types registered in the correct place.
Unless I can use the batch convert command as intended by the time my trial period runs out in 13 days I cannot justify buying this software. If converting the documents one at a time was acceptable I would just use Save As PDF from within MS Word which works just fine. I need the batch convert function so I can convert my whole library of word documents to PDF at once.
    Any further assistance greatly appreciated!

    Gray
