Acrobat Pro X Failure to start

I regularly find that Acrobat Pro X fails to start when I double click an acrobat file or double click the program itself.  The fix for this problem is to download and run Acrofix.exe.  But it appears that this fix is of a temporary nature as about every month I have to run that fix again.
Is there a permanent fix for this problem?

I'd like to second that this is still a problem. Just popped up for me today. Last time I saw it was several months ago.
Running 10.1.9

• Adobe Acrobat Pro 10 does not start anymore

This happened to me three times now. One time Adobe Acrobat Pro 10 is working properly for weeks. It crashes once and after that it does not start anymore without providing a message or clue.
What I used to do is remove CS6 completely and reinstall it. But this is tedious. Just uninstalling Acrobat Pro and reinstalling it doesn't do the trick.
My guess is that a setting is stopping Acrobat Pro from starting. Is it possible to reset Acrobat Pro settings to the factory default? I've already remove the folders under
%LOCALAPPDATA% \adobe\acrobat and
%APPDATA% \adobe\acrobat
but this doesn't help.

Ok. This occasion I had a bit of time on my hand and found a solution yuhu!
Make sure you have access to you license key as you have to enter it new after this procedure
1) Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache
2) Delete or rename the file cache.db
3) Open Acrobat Pro, you will be asked to license the software again under your Adobe-ID again.
4) If asked to connect to your Adobe-ID and re-enter the license key.
Now Acrobat Pro is working (as are all the other CS6 applications.

• Adobe acrobat pro app will not start when I click

Just used installer to download Acrobat Pro.  When I click on icon or click in applications file nothing happens

did you install acrobat pro?
if yes, check your install logs to see if there was a problem with your installation, Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CC
if no, install it.

• Acrobat Pro X no longer starts -- even after trying re-installing

OK. Opened a *.pdf file.  Saw the file open a for a little bit, then the program closed by itself. Tried to re-start and it wouldn't.  Re-boot the computer, no.  tried to access it different ways. Nothing, not even a error message or any kind.  Downloaded the program installation file, and repaired the installation.  Still didn't work.  When back to the CS6 installation files and tried re-installing.  Still it won't start.  Other CS6 programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), all still work.  what's going on and how can I get it working again?  OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
Thanks.

Here is what I believe to be the problem. It is not that Acrobat is broken, it is that you cannot get it out of trial mode. Even though you have a valid license for a suite of apps such as CS6 Design and Web Premium, and have activated the suite, after 30 days Acrobat stops launching because the 30 day trial has expired. You do not have to reinstall Acrobat if this happens. If you go into another app such as Photoshop and "Deactivate" the program, once you re-launch and re-activate Photoshop, Acrobat will start working again. Unfortunately this still is not removing Acrobat from Trial mode and 30 days later it will stop launching again. You then have to repeat the deactivate - reactive process of Photoshop to fix the problem yet again for another 30 days fo use. Very frustrating.

• Acrobat Pro 10 will not start after installing PitStop 10

This is my problem. Acrobat will not start when I have installed PitStop 9 or 10.
However, it works fine together with PitStop 8.
Thanks.

Don't know about fixing PitStop. However, have you tried a simple repair on Acrobat. If Acrobat won't open you can do that from the Programs and Features menu (Add/Remove Programs in OS prior to Win7).

• Acrobat Pro 9 & XI both installed on Mac. How can I uninstall Acrobat Pro 9 & not affect Acrobat XI?

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro XI are installed on the same iMac with OS X 10.8.5.  How do I safely uninstall only Acrobat Pro 9 without affecting Acrobat Pro XI?
When I first installed Acrobat Pro XI, I thought maybe I was suppose to leave Acrobat Pro 9 on my computer.
So now I have both Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro 11 installed.
I see no benefit to having both installed. I want to uninstall only the Acrobat Pro 9 and not Acrobat Pro XI.
I am not sure that I can safely uninstall Acrobat Pro 9 without affecting the functioning and files for Acrobat Pro XI.
I started to uninstall Acrobat 9, but I stopped when I saw a warning in a little window.
I went to the  "Acrobat Uninstaller.app"  file in the  "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro"  folder and double clicked it.
The Acrobat folder for Acrobat XI Pro came up with the file "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app" selected
I manually selected the  "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app"  file in the  "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro" folder.
When I clicked on "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app" for Acrobat 9  a window with a warning came up. So I stopped.
"Uninstall will remove files, folders, and preferences installed by Acrobat from your system.
There is no undo available. User data files and directories shared by other Adobe applications will not be removed."
Should I go ahead and click [Uninstall]?
I don't think it will delete my pdf files.
Will this affect my Acrobat XI operating &/or preferences? Will Acrobat XI still function correctly?
What do I have to do to safely have just Acrobat XI on my computer without Acrobat 9?
Thank you for any help.

I am trying to uninstall, I tried to uninstall, but I got the following message when trying to uninstall: "Invalid Application. The application selected was not a valid Acrobat application for this uninstaller. Please rerun the uninstaller." Acrobat 9 installation suddenly stopped working
Can you help?

Good morning.
I just installed acrobat 10 (it's the latest version that they are selling
on adobe's website) and yes, when I uninstall, the issues go away.  I then
tried reinstalling acrobat and the probs came back.

• Having trouble in printing the scanned pages in Acrobat Pro

I m using acrobat pro. I recently started having some trouble in printing the scanned pages in Acrobat. When i am printing a regular (non-scanned) page, it works just fine. If i m printing a scanned page, the print is completely distorted. I don't even know how to describe this condition, so I don't really know how to google it.
If i remember correctly, I made some changes to the printing options. I can't exactly recall what was it, but it was something trivial (like printing all text to black or something)
So i have attached the print of a scanned document. It's just the print quality that's different.
Thanks for help.

• Acrobat Pro X reinstall Fails

I received an Acrobat Pro update notification and started the update process. Update failed and the message said it needed to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat Pro.
I followed Adobe’s advice. But I have not been able to get Acrobat Pro to finish installing on my MacPro (desktop) runs on OSX 10.9.5. I have read lots of help files, and group discussions. I have tried all sorts of things including uninstalling various ways and reinstalling various ways. I tried other utilities to scrub residual Adobe files. I've tried installing as root user, in safe mode, etc.
My Acrobat Pro is part for the CS6 suite. It is an original CS6 install disk (not a download). Other parts of CS6 suite are working fine. Along the way I've rebuilt permissions and done various disk maintenance several times. I even had to restore from Time Machine once.
Throughout all of this, about the same thing always happens. The CS installer runs fine for everything up to the last stage of installation for Acrobat. When the installer finishes, it says Acrobat install failed. The latest error log is below.
My Acrobat Pro was able to update until 11.0.09 Pro update on 9/11/14. Before the latest update and Acrobat actually runs, and works fine. The main indicator that something isn't right is that when I try to update it, the update (also seems to run OK until about the end but then) says it can't update Acrobat because something has been changed. The other CS applications run and update fine.
I lost the Acrobat Pro Since I uninstalled and have not been able to reinstall back to my CS6 suite. I'm tired of trying things without knowing what I'm trying to fix. It's clear that this type of problem is pretty widespread with Adobe Acrobat. So, does anyone really understand what the problem with their installer is??

• Using VBA - Check to see if Acrobat Pro is open on users machine

Hello all. I have an Access application that generates a bunch of single page PDF reports in a folder on the users machine, then when it is finished, it combines all of the files into a single pdf file on the users desktop. If the user has left Acrobat Pro open before he starts running the reports, when it begins to try to combine the files, he will get an error message.
I would like to check to see if Adobe Acrobat Pro is open early on in the routine so that the user doesn't have to spend so much time regenerating the reports again. I have not been able to find any VBA code that will do this. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
David

Hello Test Screen Name. I do trap for the error and generate a friendly error message to ask the user to close Adobe Acrobat. The problem is, depending on the criteria they select for the report, it could take 5 to 10 minutes before they ever see that error message because of the hundreds of individual pdf reports it has to generate. It is not until my code is ready to combine those pdf files that they see the message. So, it is not really a runtime error so to speak.
But, I found the answer to my question and wanted to share it with everyone. The answers are located here:
API: Find out if an application is currently running
API: Get Class name of a running app
What I did is paste all code from those 2 pages into a new module in Access. Then I made sure that Adobe Acrobat is loaded on my machine. I ran the sub fEnumWindows() and it printed the Class Names of all of my open programs. I got the class name for Adobe Acrobat, which is AcrobatSDIWindow. Then I modified the select case statement in the following function as so, to include the string acrobat and its Class Name:
Function fIsAppRunning(ByVal strAppName As String, _
            Optional fActivate As Boolean) As Boolean
        Dim lngH As Long, strClassName As String
        Dim lngX As Long, lngTmp As Long
        Const WM_USER = 1024
        On Local Error GoTo fIsAppRunning_Err
        fIsAppRunning = False
        Select Case LCase$(strAppName)
            Case "excel":      strClassName = "XLMain"
            Case "word":        strClassName = "OpusApp"
            Case "access":      strClassName = "OMain"
            Case "powerpoint95": strClassName = "PP7FrameClass"
            Case "powerpoint97": strClassName = "PP97FrameClass"
            Case "notepad":    strClassName = "NOTEPAD"
            Case "acrobat":  strClassName = "AcrobatSDIWindow"
            Case "wordpad":    strClassName = "WordPadClass"
            Case Else:          strClassName = vbNullString
        End Select
        If strClassName = "" Then
            lngH = apiFindWindow(vbNullString, strAppName)
        Else
            lngH = apiFindWindow(strClassName, vbNullString)
        End If
        If lngH <> 0 Then
            apiSendMessage lngH, WM_USER + 18, 0, 0
            lngX = apiIsIconic(lngH)
            If lngX <> 0 Then
                lngTmp = apiShowWindow(lngH, SW_SHOWNORMAL)
            End If
            If fActivate Then
                lngTmp = apiSetForegroundWindow(lngH)
            End If
            fIsAppRunning = True
        End If
fIsAppRunning_Exit:
        Exit Function
fIsAppRunning_Err:
        fIsAppRunning = False
        Resume fIsAppRunning_Exit
End Function
Now I can just send "acrobat" to this function to see if the app is open.
Sincerely,
David

• Acrobat Pro XI trial message

Why do I get an Acrobat Pro XI 'trial offer message when I try to open a document in acrobat reader. The message prevents me from opening the documents with one click. I then have to save the document and use open with instead.

Ok, I realise there is another problem. The screen shot shows Acrobat XI Pro - that's the current version.
But the serial number you have is from an old product (sold 2008 until 2010), CS4. That includes Adobe Acrobat Pro, but it is version 9.
So, you may find you have Acrobat Pro 9 in your Start menu. Certainly you can't use the serial number you mentioned, from CS4, to make the Acrobat Pro XI demo work.
So, I guess the next question is
- did you buy Actobat XI Pro separately
- or is it just a demo you wanted to try?
(Installing Acrobat XI probably uninstalled Acrobat 9, which is another and rather awkward problem).

I don't know if this is the right section but I experience the following issue with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI installed on Windows 8.1. When I start Acrobat the related window opens normally but, after some scroll up and down along the document, it blocks, Acrobat doesn't respond to any command I can give and, in place of the pointer arrow, a vertical bar, as the one of the text editor appears. The only way I can stop Acrobat is by means of the task manager. I tried to de-install and the re- install Acrobat but the behaviour is always the same. What can I do??

Have you opened Acrobat and gone to Help>Updates to get an updated install?

I purchased the software in 2013 and never registered i, apparently. When directed on Adobe's site to access the serial number, it takes me to an outside 3rd party site, which I tried but it does not actually work. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Acrobat Pro X 10.1.10 Does Not Start Windows 8.1

I have Create Suite CS6 which apparently bundles Adobe Acrobat Pro X.   I have upgraded to 10.1.10.    Under Window 8.1, this version simply does not start.   There is no startup screen.  There is no error in EventViewer of Windows.   It simply does NOTHING.
I went to Windows Program and Features and did a "Repair" on Acrobat Pro X.  This redid the install but the result is the same.
Is there a known compatibility issue here?   How do I work around this?

Hello,
Have you tried to run the Acrofix patch on your computer?
If not, please follow this link, http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html
