Acrobat problems?

I'm using Word 2011 and Acrobat 9.0 Pro on a MacBook Pro that I just updated to Maverick.
I converted a Word document into PDF, using the "print" option. Then I attempt to insert bookmarks into the PDF document -- as I've done a million times before. Only now in the navigation view on the left each bookmark is taking up a huge block of space and embedding is acting weird.
Is this a Maverick issue? Or Adobe? My Mac OS is too "advanced" to allow updates to Acrobat 9.
Thanks in advance.

My Mac OS is too "advanced" to allow updates to Acrobat 9.
That and there simply are no more updates for 9. Adobe Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro update - All languages was almost a year ago
Using the Print>Save as PDf option creates the PDF with Preview and NOT Acrobat. That could be part of it. Metadata in the doc could be read differently, which adds a bunch of characters (likely invisible) when you add the bookmark.
Try saving the doc in Word, and opening Acrobat. Then go to File>Create>PDF from file... and choose the doc to make the PDF from. See if it behaves differently as an Acrobat PDF.

  • Adobe Acrobat problems in Windows 7, any solution?

After a HD-crasch I reinstalled everything. But when I try to install Adobe Acrobat 11 or 9 problems accure.  When the program is almost installed suddenly all my Desk top icons, Start menu icons and Quick start icons changes into Adobe icons all of them!   When I try to use one of the orginal program icon only Adobe program opens up. I can not access any other programs.  When I delete Adobe Acrobat all my icons returns to normal.   What to do to have a normal installation of Adobe Acrobat?

See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/application-file-icons-change-acrobat.html for some possible solutions.

  • How to diagnose Acrobat problem

I've inherited/taken over my precursor's PC, which has FM 10 and CS 5.5 on. So far so good, but it didn't take long to hit a problem: Save as .pdf doesn't work :-{ I just get a couple of seconds' busy cursor, then a sort of bounce as though the entire screen is being redrawn, and that's it. No message, no log and no .pdf output.
This is the only FM installation in a fairly large company, and it must have been installed by ICT because it's on a closed PC. I'd like to gather as much background information as I can before contacting them.
Windows 7.0, as far as I know; FrameMaker 10.0.2.419 – just let me know if there's any more information you need.
    Thanks in advance!

    Niels,
The SaveAsPDF has been working reasonably reliably in the last releases provided everything is installed correctly and the proper options are enabled.
First, make certain that the Adobe PDF printer instance is the deafult in the FM session (use the SetPrint utility to ensure that it is).
If you already had Acrobat installed prior to installing FM, then the default FM instalation also installs the PDFCreator add-on (you have to manually deselect it - very bad design on Adobe's part), which will hose the Acrobat installation. Try running the Repair option (under Help menu) in Acrobat. If that doesn't work, you may have to go through a re-install cycle.
I also keep running into the "rely on system fonts" error message every so often. It seems like any Acrobat update that comes out resets the defaults the wrong way.

    what should i do
You should launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement.
If Acrobat is not installed, see below. Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.

  • Acrobat - problem screen view on Mac vs Windows (xpost with Acrobat Mac)

I create PDFs from InDesign, some of which are for printing, and some for viewing on screen, usually on PCs. I create them on my Mac.
When printed the output is perfect, but the screen versions when viewed on a PC are really patchy. Some pages have text looking really bolded and the next one is just as it looks on a Mac. All the pages viewed on the Mac are exactly right. I have two screens 2560 x 1600 and 1920 x 1200.
I have told my client that it is a PC/Mac difference but he is not convinced. He has looked at the PDFs on a 1920x1080 and lower pixels and the text is always bolded on some pages and not on others.
Does the PDF have to be created on a PC for it to look right on a PC screen? Is there any other reason for this inconsistency?
My client is very unhappy and does not want to send the documents to his client until the matter is resolved (if it is possible to be resolved).
Earlier I changed some text from very light weight -- 25 ultra light, then to 35 then to 65 Semi bold. At 65 the screen differences disappeared for this text which was on one master page and displayed on several pages, ie it was from a single text source, but looked different on some of the pages but not all. On my Mac screens all the text at all weights looked exactly the same on every page.
Acrobat versions used: My Mac - Acrobat 9 Pro v9.3.3
On the PC: Acrobat Reader 9 (the latest, as it is a new PC)
The problem occurs on all levels of document produced: Pre Press, smallest file size, High Quality Print...

The problem is solved - or at least there is a workaround.
If I print to postscript, then create the PDF using Distiller then the PDFs on all screens look fine.
The problem is apparently with InDesign's (CS4) PDF rendering in the "Create PDF..." command.
Thanks for your help Stix. Yes, the document was confidential so I could not load any of it onto a public website so I downloaded PitStop instead. I am glad I did not have to buy it as it costs around €600!
I used to use Distiller a lot when I worked in Quark because its PDF creation was awful, and forgot about it until now.
I'll be contacting Adobe to see if there is a fix to the PDF/InDesign problem, though unless the problem happens in CS5 universally Adobe probably won't fix it.

ok, well we just got Acrobat for our computer, and for some reason, everytime we put it in, it sounds like its going to boot up and appear on the desktop, but then it ejects itself! We tried putting in other disks, and they worked perfectly! What should we do? Is this disk defective?

  • Odd Acrobat Problem - Fill Boxes in Indd show in Preview, not in Acrobat

    HELP!
I've never seen this before. I often use InDesign to create presentations. I set a master page with a black background, then do my document and print to PDF and show as slides/full page preview.
Yesterday I followed all my normal steps and the black boxes set as background on the master page didn't print. I removed them and added them to the page itself, didn't work. I finally had to create a black box in illustrator and copy it into InDesign to get it to work properly. I have no idea.
The weirder thing: the black box shows up in Apple Preview but not in Acrobat.
    HELP. I am running 10.5.3 and CS3

Search and delete these two files:
    com.adobe.acrobat.80.sh.plist
    com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro_ppc_8.0.plist
And see how it works for you. You'll need to reset your preferences when done.
Just had that same issue this week with a gray box on a master page. It was visible in Reader 8, Preview and all older versions of Reader or Acrobat but not Acrobat 8.

  • Printing problem with Acrobat V.10.1.12

I recently had to complete a mail merge type exercise to create labels and supply print ready PDF to commercial printer.  The complete document was 3,334 pages.  When I went to print the PDF printer seemed to be going through all the motions, but at the end, would only produce page 1 of this document.  Is there something I can do to correct this?

Thanks for responding I was using an MS Excel spreadsheet to merge details to produce labels in a programme called NiceLabel Pro.  The information from the spreadsheet was very simple - a readable code number and a QR code.  In the Nice Label document setup you nominate the printer - in my case this was the Adobe PDF printer - to produce a Press Ready quality PDF file.  I tried several times to print this file and each time ended up with page 1.  As the job was urgent and I had a deadline to meet, I ended up installing a programme called Nitro - which also produces PDF - to complete the job, without a problem.  However, I would prefer to stick with my Adobe Acrobat software as the other alternative is limited in its pre-press options.  Hope this information will enable a solution to the problem.

  • Printing problem with Acrobat Pro 10.1

I get an "Insufficient memory" message on my LaserJet printer when trying to print certain PDFs using Acrobat Pro 10.1, but the PDFs are printed without any problem from Acrobat Pro 9 or Preview. Does anybody else have this problem?

  • Acrobat Pro 11 2nd Display Problem

iMac 2013 version running OSX 10.9.4 and Acrobat Pro 11.0.7 - both are the most current version.
The iMac has a 27" display and I use a second monitor next to it in the portrait orientation, a 23" NEC E231W so I can view fine print documents more easily. Everything worked fine until some months ago, it may have been when I upgraded from Acrobat 10 to 11 but I am not sure. It was an irritation that I thought someone (Acrobat or Apple) would fix but they did not. Apple support (I have about 5 AppleCare products under warranty) does not support Acrobat problems.
When I open or move a PDF document to my second monitor using Acrobat, the document on the second screen does not display properly; either the right half is all "whited out" or the text is weirdly scrunched up. See embedded image taken with Grab. Anyway, I discovered today that if I am using Preview (instead of Acrobat) I don't have the problem, so have belatedly discovered a much needed workaround, but of course I cannot use the Acrobat editing functions if the document is displayed on my second screen; all works fine on the iMac display.
The image included shows the same document displayed on my second screen; the top image is using Preview (showing page 1 of 7) and the image below it is using Acrobat.
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Problems converting Wrod doc (2007) to PDF with Adobe Acrobat 8.x

I have been trying to save a word document (2007) to PDF. If I open Acro

    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble. While I can't help with your Acrobat question (you're not in the Acrobat forum, but rather in the Acrobat.com forum), I can tell you that there are two online services that can do this conversion for you:
    1. Acrobat.com (www.acrobat.com) is a service for creating and sharing files, as well as web conferencing;
    2. Adobe CreatePDF (http://createpdf.acrobat.com) is a service solely for creating PDF files from existing documents.
I would recommend either of those services to you for creating PDF files from your existing Word documents, as well as from image files and other text files (for a full list of supported documents, please see http://createpdf.acrobat.com/faq.html).
For help solving the Acrobat problem, you'll probably want to re-post your question to the forum on the Acrobat User Community site: www.acrobatusers.com/forum
    Best of luck!
    Rebecca
