  • Adobe Acrobat X - Acrotray is not responding

I have recently installed Acrobat X on my 64bit Windows operating system and when first installed I had no problems, everything was working correctly. A few months go by and all of a sudden I get a spooling error when trying to print a document to a PDF. The error reads "Acrotray is not responding". So I close the error box and try again...it then prints. This went on for a few weeks. Then recently, it became worse, now I have to repeat the process 3 times to print any document (Word, Excel, ACAD, JPG) to a PDF. This is time consuming and very annoying to say the least.
If anyone has had this problem and found a resolution, please let me know.
    Thank you-
I also found a ton of "AppHang_Acrotray errors in my microsoft directory. Here is one opened with notpad:

  • My adobe acrobat 9 pro is not responding

I have had Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro installed for 3 years now.  Then I got a message that I had to uninstall and reinstall which I did.  However, Adobe is not responding when I try to move around a PDF or try to print a page.  Any ideas?  Does my purchase of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro expire?  @

    Hi Eric Hillmann,
May i know which operating system you are using?
Have you tried to repair the Acrobat? What exactly you are trying to do when Acrobat is not responding?
    Regards,
    Ajlan Huda.

  • Acrobat 9.5 Pro not responding

Tried to get support through chat but I have to pay! the other day it just decided to "not respond". It opens for a few seconds, which still allows me to convert docs to pdf and save, but nothing else. Can't do any updates either (I always allow the "frequent" updates anyway). Thinking it's time to give Adobe away and find an alternative product. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't see that people should be forced to constantly outlay big money for the latest versions.

    1) Opened PDF where most of the pages have all page boxes set to zero, with media box (true page size) set to 6" x 9". One subset of pages has a media box of 6.25" x 9.25", but the trim box is set to 0.125" on all sides.
    2) Ran a preflight profile with the option "Page size or orientation differs from page to page" set to "Error", as it has been on all previous versions of Acrobat.
    3) "Page size or orientation differs from page to page" error does not get triggered.
    4) Tried same preflight profile settings on same PDF in Acrobat 7. Error does get triggered.
    5) Tried same preflight profile settings on same PDF on a copy of Acrobat 9 not fully updated to 9.5. Error does get triggered.
    6) Tried on various machines with 9.5 update. Error does not get triggered on any.
I can only conclude that something has changed in the latest update.

  • Adobe Acrobat webpage Printing spins/"not responding" in FF 3.6 latest release - please fix it

FF 3.6 (latest) Print web page to Adobe Acrobat v.9.02 spins and not responding. Earlier version of FF was ok w/Acrobat. I have the Acrobat Plug-ins in FF 3.6. Annoying to see FF 3.6 not ready for prime-time as prior versions. How can I go-back to FF 3.5? Thank you.

Hi, sorry it took me so long to reply. I finally had some time to troubleshoot the issue, and fortunately I found what was wrong .
But first, I must say that I am deeply ashamed, and I apologize to for coming here and blaming Skype, because it turns out the fault is completely mine. The problem was that a while back, a tech buddy of mine sent me his Windows "hosts" files (the hosts file allows a simple way to block unwanted and dangerous websites, as well as advertisements from loading on your computer). Most of the time, I do pay attention when I compile my hosts file, but this time I assumed my buddy's list of blocked websites was reasonable.
Turns out, he had the following entries in there (without the quotation marks):
    "skypeassets.com"
    "secure.skypeassets.com"
That means, any web page that needed to access these was blocked from loading. As a result, this is what broke the Skype Credit page.
I attached a screenshot to show what the Buy Skype Credit page looks like when it is blocked, so that way, if anyone has this issue and wonders why it's not working, check your hosts file (found in "C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc").
The Buy Skype Credit page now seems to work fine in all of my browsers (Firefox 32, Firefox 24, Opera 12/11/10, and IE8 ). I also tested IE6 just for giggles, but it gives a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error. This is very common with IE6, though. I'm just stating this in case anyone is still running that dinosaur browser (please don't, it's not safe or compatible).
Thanks, and I hope this was somewhat helpful .

  • PDF help. printing PDFs make acrobat or reader go not responding.

Whenever i try to print or go to print setup in either Acrobat or Reader it cause the program to not respond and i will have to exit the program and it will not print. But if i right-click a .pdf file (like saved on my desktop) and click print it will print just fine.... I am using Acrobat 8.2.6....i think. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

As Michael said, it is probably a conflict between the two. You may be able to uninstall Reader (assume you have Reader 9) and repair Acrobat. Uninstalling one will usually break the other and the repair should fix it.

  • Acrobat DC freezing or "not responding"

I recently installed Acrobat DC.  I previously used Foxit Phantom.  Now when I am in "My Computer" and I either mouse-over or try to open a PDF file, it freezes for about 10 seconds and says "not responding" at the top.  It always works again after the 7-10 seconds.  Very annoying.  This never happened when using Foxit.  Has anyone else had this problem?  How do I fix it?

    Hi Scott2116,
I am sorry that you are experiencing this issue & will be happy to assist you.
Can you please let me know the version of operating system installed on your computer in order to diagnose the issue correctly?
In the mean time please refer to this KB doc. Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Windows | Adobe software to check the system requirements & other troubleshooting steps.

All Software and system up to date.
Save as Adobe PDF... in Print funciotn will be not respnoding...
Open a word file, Print -> PDF -> Save as Adobe PDF -> option : "High Quality Print"  and "Adobe Acrobat Pro" -> Continue -> change Name and location -> Save. Then the "Save as Adobe PDF" Automator pop up on Dock, a "Save as Adobe PDF" window will show "Finalizing PDF file..." and not reponding......... have to Force Quit.
But, if I use "Save as PDF" on Print, it works but will creat a very large PDF file. For example, my DOCX file is only 270KB, the PDF will be 23MB.

Your comment all software is up to date is wrong.
Unless You using a PowerPC Machine  OSX up to 9.1
Acrobat X may be at 10.1.8  but the newest available is Acrobat 11.0.4
And what seriously out of date and may be causing your issues is That Office2011 is up 14.3.9 By using out of date application may cause part of your issues. Note it does take a Long time to process a Large document
If you can get the PDF to open
Look for and Choose Optimized PDF or PDF Optimzer
click fonts if you see any duplicate Fonts
example two or three copies or more of say Helvetica Bold Italic
click on all but one of them and move to unembed
Repeat with all Fonts that have duplicates.
    Then click okay when done.
This issue can be caused by older versions of software.
But if downloaded from a PC the number one reason is that unlike Mac in which your old allowed one copy of a Font/Font Family. PC doesn't care how many copies fonts there are on the computer. Whatever app just choose one to use at that moment. So you could have 20 versions of Helvetica bold Italic and the syetem doesn't care.
I've received PDF from PDF's from PC's and there have been as many as 10 copies of one font.  Once optimized the files size went down.

  • Acrobat prof.7 does not print

My old laptop terired and I installed acrobat 7 (liciensed) copy on the new laptop, but it does not act as a printer. Any help.

What computer operating system and what hardware to you have?
My hunch is that Acrobat Professional 7 (now very old) is no longer compatible with your new computer, and you'll need to upgrade Acrobat.

  • "Update server not responding" when trying to update Acrobat 9 Pro

I just installed Acrobat 9 Pro on my desktop computer and on my laptop. I was able to download and install the latest updates to the copy on my desktop computer (so that it is now version 9.3.0), using Help>Check for Updates.
When I try the same command on my laptop, I get and error message that states "The update server is not responding, which means it may be offline at the moment, or the Internet or firlewall settings may be incorrect. Please try again later." I tried several times yesterday and today with the same error. The message pops up immediatley; it doesn't even seem to actually try to connect.
I disabled my firewall and antivirus software and still get the same result. I uninstalled then reinstalled Acrobat and still get the same result.
I looked online at Adobe.com to see about downloading and installing the updates manually, but it's difficult for me to tell which updates I need. Some are for other languages and some are for 64-bit but I have Windows 7 32-bit.
A call to tech support was no help. The agent seemed to think because I installed verison 9.0 that I only needed the one English update listed on the download page under 9.0, and not any of the later updates. . . And he said that Adobe recommends manually installing updates from Adobe.com rather than using the Check for Updates command (?!).
Anyway, does anyone know what might be causing this problem with the adobe updater? Maybe I need to reinstall the updater (where do I find it?).
    OR
Can someone tell me which of the updates listed on the Acrobat dowload page I should manually install to bring my product up to date?
[Running Windows 7 32-bit on both machines]
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Which version of Acrobat do you have ?
(Launch Acrobat and Go to Acrobat->About Adobe Acrobat menu item and check the version )
Also, can you ping following urls ?
    armmf.adobe.com
    armdl.adobe.com
    ardownload.adobe.com
    Are these urls reachable ?
Also, you can check the contents of host file /etc/defaults/host to see that none of the ips are redirected.
One more thing that you could try:
If you have firewall on, could you please disable the firewall and then try the update. Does it works now ?

  • Acrobat XI Pro "Not Responding

I recently updated to Windows 8 Professional and Acrobat worked like a charm for 3 days with instantaneous reponse.
Now progressively I am back to the old problem that I had under Windows 7 and with Acrobat X and 9 - Whenever I open a new PDF it takes an extraordinary amount of time to open and I usually get the message "not responding" with an opaque window.
We have had this problem on 2 PC's.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with you, restarting the print spooler tends to work for me to get Acrobat working again about 50% of the time. Unfortunately for me, tonight is not in that percentage range.
Ironically the reason I always have to turn the print spooler back off is because when it is on, Adobe Illustrator gives me the "not responding" treatment!
The amount of time I spend troubleshooting my Adobe programs is oftentimes greater than the time I actually get to spend using them for their intended purpose!
Very, very, very frustrating! And yes, I have followed all of the tech advice etc., and the things still glitch up. I'm a student now, but I can't even imagine having to
cope with these problems after I graduate and begin my career in the working world!
Adobe, if you are listening: Please fix the bugs in your programs! My schoolwork is suffering because of them; which also means my health is suffering because I don't get any sleep since
I am having to spend so many hours fighting to get anything to work! (Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, etc., etc., etc.!) Also it is costing me grade points since my work has been
late at times due to these bugs. Tonight is a prime example, which is why I am here in this forum trying to find a way to fix Acrobat so I can make a simple PDF (since none of the other applications will work, either!).
Paying too much for too little. Very dissatisfied customer. /Rant.

  • Acrobat PRO XI  not responding when using Send File

We have 3 new Windows 7 Pro 64 bit workstations with latest service packs, Office 2013 latest service packs and Adobe Acrobat XI  ver 11.0.4.
I have assigned the AD group Domain Users to the local pc Administrators group.
when trying to use the send file as an email attachment, the email is sent with the attachment but Acrobat goes to "not responding" state
When I login as me Domain Admin, works fine.  When I login to my pc as one of these users works fine.
    What am i missing?

I have the same issue, everything I do seems to only fix it temporarily. I can't believe we pay over $100 for a piece of software and the only support option is their forums, I can't call or even chat with a support rep, that is insane.
I have clients that this same issue is happening to and telling them it's fixed every other day only to have it break again and have no where to look for answers is extremely frustrating. Please help us out.

  • Hyperlink not Responded in Acrobat Reader 9.0

    Hi all,
I have installed Adobe Reader 9.0 recently. But in hyperlink that points to another PDF document has not been responded. No error message has not been given even. It worked with Acrobat Reader 7.0 also. In Acrobat Reader 7.0 if you click the hyperlink and then if the relavant document is not existed, It give error message saying that that it could not found the document. But in Reader 9.0 it does not respond even. I have updated the Acrobat Reader 9.0 also and it is upto date.
    Does anyone has an idea?
