Acrobat Reader 10.1.4 won't open

Hi
Recently I've been having problems with Acrobat Reader. When I open a document, after say 5 seconds it freezes every time, regardless of the document. This went on a few days, until I uninstalled it and downloaded the most recent version for Vista SP2 (10.1.4). Now it won't open at all. If I click the program icon, I get a loading disk for a few seconds, then nothing. If I try to open a document, I get the starting up banner, but nothing beyond this and when I click the screen again the banner disappears. Task manager reveals Acrobat is not running. Any ideas what is going on or how I can resolve it.
Thanks

Sorry it's Reader, not Acrobat, I would edit the original post but can't see an option to.
Anyway, it actually will open, just takes about 15-20 minutes from clicking the icon until it does, then it works normally. I did try a repair. It said the repair completed successfully but also said 'Failed to connect to the DDE server.'

  • I had one of your technicians re-install Acrobat Pro and it still won't open. My technician was Rajat and he was reading from a manual. He did not appear to be competent. He told the case has to be escalated

I had a technician, Rajat, from a Adobe re-install Acrobat Pro. It still won't open. He said the case has to be elevated. How do I get help from someone in the United States?

Not one of my technicians. We are just fellow users of the product.
But if you start from the top and explain your problem we have a fair track record of helping. Some questions for you
    - what version of Mac or Windows
    - what version of Acrobat Pro
    - what exactly happens when you try to open Acrobat Pro (error messages in full please)
    - whether it ever worked and what changed?

  • Adobe reader 6.0 app won't open because PowerPC apps are no longer supported

I can no longer open .pdf files on my newer imac which is over 3 yrs. old,  This issue seemed to have started sometime after updating to icloud & Lion??  on this imac but for some reason, I do not have the same problem on my other imac that is running the same Lion v. 10.7.2 which is over 4 yrs. old.  I can see that the older imac is running Adobe Reader 9.4.6 and opens .pdf files.
Here is the error message I get on my newer imac:
adobe reader 6.0 app won't open because PowerPC apps are no longer supported
I don't remember if or when I started having this problem on the newer imac but it use to open .pdf files.  Nor can I find any reference to ANY Adobe Reader version other than 6.0 on this computer,  Even after several tries and downloading off the Adobe web site using Safari.
I have made several attempts to download off the adobe web site using safari which shows it is downloading the app. but cannot find it anywhere on my computer's HD or Desktop even when using Spotlight to search for it.
In fear of screwing up my new 17" MBP which arrived yesterday I have not attempted to transfer any info/files/data off of my other imacs due to they info dating back to the PowerPC days that transfered during switching to newer mac models.
Thanks for any help in this matter
    Bob

I have tried several times to update the Intel Mac verision of adobe but cannot find where it was downloaded to on my computer.   When I do a search on my computer, the only version that is found is the old 6.0 Power PC which is no longer supported.

  • I have a Mac OS X and I'm trying to download Adobe Reader 11 and it won't open.

I have a Mac OS X and I'm trying to download Adobe Reader 11 and it won't open.  I get it installed, however, when I click on the icon nothing opens.  Please help!

Download AppZapper (it's a free trial - but once you see how it works, you'll agree it's worth the $12.95 to buy)
    Install it and open it.
Drag the Reader.app from your Applications folder onto the AppZapper window
"Zap" the file and all asociated files.
    Close AppZapper
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
If the AdobePDFviewer.plugin or AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files are present, trash them
    Empty the trash
Download the Reader Installer again: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Mount the DMG and run the installer.
Launch Reader 11 from your Applications folder and accept the license agreement
Reader will run properly from here on out.

  • Reader 10.1.1 won't open internet PDF files

I downloaded and installed the free Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.1  I am unable to open any PDF files online.  When I click on a PDF file link I get this message:
There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (103:103)
It is not open and I only use it when I have to open a file that is online.  I deleted and reinstalled and still have the same problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    My system:
    Dell Dimension desktop computer
Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3
    DSL internet connection

Have the same problem and, while not a total solution, offer a work-around that might help you temporarily.
And, yes, I'm running XP SP3 as well, so.....
1.) Find the folder where the Reader X lives (on my system - /Windows/Program Files/Adobe/Reader 10.0/Reader).
2.) Locate AcroRd32 - the file with the Adobe icon.
3.) Right click and go to Properties.
    4.) Set Campatibility to *Windows2000*
Reply "OK" to everything and try opening your file(s) again......
Now, you'll still get the Error message initially, and intermittantly, but the PDF window won't close; you can read the document and saving the file still works.
Again, it's not a fix, kinda cludgy, but it got me back on track even tho the message popping up is an annoyance.
Maybe Adobe will fix it as I've seen several folks here with similar experiences.

  • Reader 8.1.2 won't open desktop icons

I have had previous versions of Adobe installed. If logged in as a network administrator on my pc, I can open any pdf, no matter it's location. If I log in as a general user on our network - w/limited network access, I can open adobe reader 8.1.2 and go through the file menu to open a document. If I try to click on the pdf icon on my desktop, it won't open. It's like it doesn't know which program to use. I've tried: 1) specifying the target location & program via right clicking on pdf icon and selecting "open with" ...doesn't work, 2)uninstalling adobe & reinstalling...doesn't work, 3)registry cleaner...doesn't work, 4) gave administrator privileges to my general user access and tried to open desktop icon...doesn't work. If I try to open a pdf in an email, it won't open either. The ONLY way I can open pdf is if I log in as administrator OR if I first open Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and then choose the file I wish to open by going through the file>open menu. If I can't find a fix, then I will be redoing my pc. Please let me know if there is a 'fix' out there. Thanks!

I regret the moment I thought that installing Adobe reader 812.I had had a blissful relationship with all previous versions and apart from the interfering busybody (ie account control) giving me dire warnings about known compatibility problems - which ive not had - all was fine ; until I tried to download and install 812.I have had the same experience as others with the processgoing smoothly. However, each time ive ried to use it sends a record up with the message "invalid plugin detected adobe willcease workining.I disabled the plug ins and still he is on strike.Indeed,On one occasion I think he must have had his militant friends round as not onlydid he refuse to work but my whole system refused to work and I ended up having to disconnect the power.I would have made him redundant but I had already sacked his predecessor.I suppose I could try to tempt him back with higher wages but the real issue is that the longer people carry on using older versiond the more likely it is that version 7 will fall in with the wrong crowd and be a likely candidate for corruption.(why did he have a copy of woodworker monthly and has been talking to fellow conspirators about wooden ponys?).You have to retain a sense of humour but to end on a serious note - if solution is not found soon I can envisage the trial seperation becoming a permanent divorce!

  • Reader 10.1.2 won't open

When I try to open Reader 10, I get an error message "C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Reader10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe, specified path does not exist” and it won't open. Virtually the same if I double click file. I have removed/re-installed four times, including earlier version, did a system restore to an earlier time and removed the anti-virus program and re-installed Reader this morning. Same problem. I am running Windows XP, SP3. Does anyone have an idea about what to try next? Thanks.

I tried modifying the registry and it did not help. What may be wrong is that I have Adobe Digital Editions also installed on this computer in the same Adobe directory. Digital Editions is what I use to download/read books from the public library (and side-load onto my Nook). I think I saw someplace where you can't have two different versions of Reader loaded at the same time. What makes me think this is I changed the .pdf association from Reader to Digital Editions and can now open and print files using Digital Editions. I'm not sure Digital Editons was meant to replace Reader, but this may offer a solution. Please let me know if others have downloaded Digital Editons and are having this problem. I wonder if moving Digital Editions to its own folder would help. I am just about at the point of reformatting and putting on Windows 7. Now I am not sure if this would correct the problem. Thanks for your reply and help.

  • Adobe Reader,11.0.04, won't open PDF

I am using an iMac with v10.8.5. Adobe Reader v. 11.0.04 won't open any PDF's. I need help.
    Wayne

Do you have one of those PDFs or point me to one. I had a few oddball PDFs that I couldn't open with Adobe Reader, but the built in Preview worked as well as vice versa.
I'd like to know a couple of things:
can you open the PDFs in Preview?
did it work with a previous version of Adobe Reader?

  • Adobe Reader X Help Menu won't open

Adobe Reader X Help (F1) will not open.  The message I receive is:  "Online Help content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet."
    WinXP SP3
    no antivirus installed
    IE 8/Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13
    Protected Mode Enabled and Disabled
    Any ideas?

Reader X does not ship with a help function other than Internet-based help.  There is a downloadable "help" PDF for reader X that can be referenced, but it is not accessed with the F1-Help function.  Maybe they will fix this some day.

  • Programmatic launch of reader 11.0.3 won't open file with spaces in the path?

The application I work on uses a PDF file for online help.  We programmatically launch the help file into the user's PDF viewer.  The path to the help file may have spaces in the directory names or filename.  With previous versions of Adobe Reader, it would launch just fine (path passed in on the command line).  However, with 11.0.3, I find that if I don't include an extra set of quotation marks around the path, it fails to open when there are spaces in the directory name.  What changed between then and now to cause this problem?  If I add extra quotation marks, will users with an older version of Reader not be able to open the file?
Edit -- running in Windows 7, launched from C# .NET 3.5.
