  • Acrobat Reader X cant's save "old" PDF versions

I'm creating PDF documents in PDF Format 1.4 for compatibility reasons.
The published documents will be opened in Acrobat Reader. If the user is using Acrobat reader X and saves the document it will be stored in PDF Version 1.5.
These PDF 1.5 documents could not be managed in the following automated process steps.
    (That's why I'm creating PDF 1.4)
How can I keep the PDF version saving a document in Acrobat READER X.
    Regards
    J.B.

We know that Acrobat Pro or Standard can save version 1.4.
We have more than 30.000 computer installations worldwide.
This would be a good deal for adobe to install the acrobat product instead of the acrobat reader only for viewing pdf documents correctly ;-(((
For security reasons and new features we are forced to update the acrobat reader version
For compatibility reasons we should use old versions

  • Acrord32(acrobat reader) loads up for no reason when i use firefox 4.

    (4-15-11)
i just started using firefox 4(new release) two days ago, i noticed it started to hang and freeze up, so i open up my windows task manager and saw that 2 files was running "AcroRd32.exe"(acrobat reader) , i'm using the most updated version of adobe, the older version of firefox "3.6.16" did not do this. The question is how do i stop "AcroRd32.exe" from starting up for no reason when i use firefox ?. i do not go to sites that have PDF's in them

IE uses a different version of Flash (ActiveX) than other browsers use (Plugin version), you need to install the correct version of Flash for Firefox.

  • Adobe acrobat reader install unsuccessful?

I am uninstall a version of acrobat reader, and now I cannot install any version. Why is this?
    Same thing with Safari.

Don't know. You didn't provide any details so the chances of someone making an informed guess are slim.
Perhaps you should post your question on Adobe's discussion forums since it's their software you're having issues with.

  • Acrobat Pro 7 and Acrobat Reader

    Hi,
I want to use the "send for review" feature of my aging Acrobat Pro 7 and am wondering if (1) current versions of Acrobat Reader can work this way with my version 7 or (2) there are older versions of Reader available for download.
It's been a while since I've used this process, so I'm trying to get up to speed -- more or less. :-)

Please try repairing Acrobat by navigating to the 'Help'menu and select 'Repair Acrobat installation..'

  • Granting document rights to Acrobat Reader users

I invested a few years ago in a full version of Acrobat (5.0.5, I know, it is somewhat dated now). Can this be used to save a document with forms that can be edited and saved by Acrobat Reader users? If not, do later versions of full Acrobat such as 6.0 or 7.0 have this capability? If not, what is required, and how much does it cost for me to save a document so that a friend who only has Acrobat Reader can edit form fields and save the edits?
Seems like this should be a function of the full version of Acrobat.

LiveCycle Reader Extensions is the required product; no version of
Acrobat has this built in. The price is quoted for you by Adobe based
on a detailed profile of your company and intended use (number of
forms and users etc.) in order to compensate for hundreds or tens of
thousands of "lost" sales of Acrobat, so expect a significant quote.
Alternatively, http://www.formrouter.com/ can do this for you on a
per-form basis. Again it varies with your company, but it can be down
    to $125 per page.
    > Seems like this should be a function of the full version of Acrobat.
Seems that everyone would like it so, certainly. But Adobe have a
    different business model.

  • Need advise on a problem one of my customer have with properties going missing in Acrobat Reader

    Hi there.
I need some advise on a major problem I got with acrobat reader on one of my customer's laptop.
I might not have all the informations, but I can explain about everything that I could dig out of the problem.
One of my customer asked me to find a solution to his problem as he just bought a Mac laptop and he has only been using a Windows PC before. He needed a way to be able to manipulate some texts and picture on a file (template) that he print a couple of times each week. I have built a 2 pages PDF form for him and it was a success on every computer we tried it on, except for his new Mac Laptop.
Whenever we open the file on his laptop in acrobat reader, every single properties of any forms are not readed.
    Those "missing" properties include :
    - Everything in the "Text field property" which include size, choice of font (I specifically took a system font available on both PC and Mac and tested it on another Mac), alignment and apearances.
    - All forms, checks and buttons are resetted to a "default" appearance.
The names and ID of the forms seems to be correct and forms with the same name seems to work. (if he fills in one part, it automaticly fills some parts on the 2nd pages instead of having him rewrite the whole stuff.)
The sizes of the forms are correct too. It seems to only affect the form properties, but not the manually inserted javascript.
I tried to open another form PDF I took from the Web (gouvernment forms) and it seems like the problem is not from my file as it happen with all PDF files with forms.
I checked his Acrobat Reader version and it seems like it's up to date, as well as his java software.
Since I couldn't do a full check-up and tried to reinstall Acrobat Reader and java as I only had about 20 minutes to check things, I'm asking around before taking that kind of option into account.
If any got any idea or have already experienced that kind of strange thing, please tell me where could the problem be.
    Thanks!

The file is opened manually with Adobe Reader directly on the customer's computer harddrive. (Right click on the file directly stored on the desktop. "Open with ..." and then select "Adobe Reader". The program showed on the top bar is Acrobat Reader and it's hard to mix it up as it's totally different from the "Preview" program on the Mac.)
If I opened it with Preview (on the Mac), it was even LESS buggy. While some options  are not accessible in Preview (mainly those who use javascripts or adobe reader/acrobat only features), the visual that aren't working in Adobe Reader were working fine. Since some basic options aren't available in Preview, my customer needs to use it in Adobe Reader.
I can garanty that the problem is related to Adobe Reader and/or maybe background process that Adobe Reader uses (for exemple : Java, C++, etc.)
I asked around to know if someone have already experienced this issue and if they have found a way to repair it without doing a full reinstall of every kind of process that Adobe Reader uses.
Also, if I'm doing a clean up for a restoration of Adobe Reader, is there any other program to reinstall then Adobe Reader and Java?

  • Why do I get "missing plug-in"notice when trying to download a document requiring acrobat reader?

I cannot download a prospectus that requires acrobat reader.  There is a message on the site that states I am "missing plug-in".  I have contacted the issuer of the prospectus and they say the path is correct.  I have even downloaded the acrobat reader software that they suggested.  I uninstalled this because it didn't work either.  What would the missing plug-in be and where can I get it?  Thank you for any help.

I really appreciate the help.  I always have had my Preview  selected as the default.  I went through all the steps again just to make sure I hadn't inadvertently changed something.  I still cannot open this link.  You and WZZZ have made me realize I may not have explained my problem well enough.
I actually don't have an attached PDF in my email.  What they sent me was a link to a website that was to open my prospectus within the browser.  The senders of the email also stated that I would need the Adobe Reader to open it.  I downloaded their version of Adobe Reader, but that didn't work either, so I uninstalled it.  I deleted the Adobe Reader Plug-in from HDD - Library - Internet Plug-ins.  That didn't work either.  I have updated the Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 (I'm not even sure this is connected to Adobe Reader but it seems to be since the AdobePDFViewer.plugin was reinserted).  None of these things has worked for opening this file.
I am willing to download another browser. Would you recommend Opera or Firefox?

  • Basic Feature missing in Acrobat Reader 7

I am totally disappointed, that comments can't be printed by Acrobat Reader 7.
I have just upgraded to Acrobat Prof 7 and Reader 7, expecting to enable projects partners printing comments. Tests have shown, editing comments works absolutely fine in both programs, but printing comments in Reader 7 doesn't work ( - in Prof 7 it does of course).
Is this the Business Politics of Adobe to have the clients upgrade again to version 8 to activate Comments printing in Acrobat Reader ???
This no fair play any more, it reminds me of Oracle and Microsoft behavior ...
    Regards
    Karl

    >>>But the result by functionality (from the user's point of view) is generally the same
LiveCycle Reader Extensions is a server product and it is primarily targeted enterprises and large coorporations. Its costs are in the thousands or more whereas Acrobat is the end user desktop version and it costs about $400 a piece.
What makes you think that they are the same? Your argument is "a vehicle is a vehicle". However, there is a big difference between a "motocycle" and a "commercial bus". Even though both of them takes you from point A to point B. But there are capabilities that a bus can do that the motocycle can't. You can put more people on the bus but you can't with the motocycle. You can be comfortable as a driver and passengers on the bus and the ride can last for hours but you can't do that with the motocycle.
It is simple, they are two different things even though they are in the same categoy called "vehicle".
The "motocycle-bus" analogy is comprehensive to a novice because it is a physical things that one can see. When it comes to software, it is a conceptual things that is not too obvious.
    >>>I have been in Software development for two decades, it is just copying code form Acrobat Prof to the Reader program at maximum, more probably these lines of code are already in but have been disabled in Acrobat Reader ...!!!
Then you should already know it better if you claim that you are in software industry for 2 decades.
You know Karl, until someone else (maybe it would be you) comes out with something similar to Adobe products, everyone of us still have to pay to use Adobe products.
Remember the day when we had to pay for a browser? Browsers are now basically free and can do a lot more than what its ancestors can.

  • Missing Commenting Toolbar for Acrobat Reader 9.3

Our company's standard desktop PCs run Acrobat 9.3.4 , Windows XP SPII (still), and IE 8.0
I have 2 PDF files, with the same Reader Extensions applied to both (commenting). The source of the PDF files was from Autocad (plant drawings). They are produced in exactly the same fashion , and in fact were generated within minutes of each other using an automated process.
What I am trying to say is that , from a PDF data structure point of view, these files are the same.
The PDF files are put on a web browser  and users can access and open them in Internet Explorer within our intranet.
I know that Reader Extensions works for both because when these PDFs are opened up on user's desktop PC  that only has Acrobat Reader in Internet Explorer we dynamically add annotations (using the Javascript API) to the PDF file as well as support other Reader Extension features such as spawning templates.
    Here is the problem.
One PDF file has the commenting and markup toolbar when opened.
The other PDF file does not.
And when I right click on the one that does not Commenting and Markup is NOT an option. I cannot find a way to enable this.
This is now a major problem for us as we would like to support adding comments to these PDF files.
I cannot fathom what the difference is that would trigger Acrobat to suppress/ show the toolbar for one file and not the other.
    So I have 2 questions.
    1. What stops Acrobat from showing the commenting toolbar?
    2. Is there some way through the Javascript API that I can force the commenting toolbar on for the PDF file that does not have it?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    We have found an answer.
I still do not know why there is inconsistent behaviour, but if we execute the following Javascript (we are putting it in the /After section), it enables commenting
    Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab = true
