Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 linux - font problem

Hi,
I create pdf files through latex (pdflatex). These files contain some graphs.
kpf would display the document correctly, text and graphs, while acroread would complain about "cannot find or create the font ArialMT".
The problem is that some characters and numbers in the graphs displays as big dots.
I think all the necessary fonts are installed (msttcorefonts) as I see them in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts) and kpf runs ok.
Is it a matter of path with acrobat reader?
any suggestion is very much appreciated.
thanks in advance
mirko

Hello,
Please set ACRO_ENABLE_FONT_CONFIG=1, in order for Adobe Reader to pick up fonts added through font-config. You could also try setting PSRESOURCEPATH=/usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts on console.
Also, you could set ACRO_ENABLE_FONT_CONFIG in acroread script itself.Search for "ACRO_ENABLE_FONT_CONFIG", uncomment the relevant section,and save the script.Acroread would now be able to use these fonts, without you having to set any variable before launching it.
Thanks,
Sanika

    Clearly Acrobat Reader has a problem.  If you point me at the symbols for AcroRd32 I'll help debug it for you since I can repro it easily.

    Here are few solutions:
    1. You can configure firefox to open pdf in external application like acroread. This way plugin problem is bypassed. - I use it this way. It looks to be faster this way.
    2. "C:\nppdf32Log\debuglog.txt" is created every time in directory from where you executed firefox/opera/other browser and opened any pdf file in browser. So this is not only home directory. You can fix this problem by yourself by hex editing nppdf.so file and replacing C:\nppdf32Log\debuglog.txt path in this file with /dev/null path. • Deploying Adobe Acrobat Reader X to the enterprise - transform problems

    We've started looking into deploying Adobe Acrobat Reader 10 and have noticed some odd behavior when using a transform made with the Adobe Customization Wizard (version 10).  On Windows XP machines, all of the configured settings work properly (online components disabled, certificates, etc).  On our Windows 7 PCs we see inconsistant results.  Sometimes the settings are applied, other times the user logs in and receives the base set of options.
    1) Any idea what could be happening?
    2) I assume that the settings are stored by profile.  Could anyone point me to where they live (directory? registry? both?)

  • Acrobat Reader 8.1.1 licensing agreement problem

    I downloaded the Acrobat Reader 8.1.1 to view a pdf file from a website. The download completed, but the document would not open, & a message saying "Licensing Agreement Not Accepted" popped up. There was never any opportunity to either accept or decline any licensing agreement. Any ideas to fix this?

    I have had the same issue since allowing Acrobat Reader to update over the weekend. I have attempted to uninstall the 8.1.1 version and reinstall and have the same error message occur. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on 2 separate home computers and both computers now have the same issue.
    When I attempted to uninstall and find an older version to reinstall from the Adobe website, I was unsuccessful. The only option is to install the newest version, which does not work.
    Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated as I am now unable to read pdfs at all.

    Hello Evan,
    Sorry for the late replay, but I was on holiday last week.
    I am using Debian GNU/Linux woody 3.0 (testing). The video driver is the one which is shipped with XFree86 in this Debian installation. I also used the newest video driver from NVidia but the problem is the same (btw. is this a NVidia problem? Unfortunally I can only test on machines with NVidia cards). I attached a screenshot to visualize the problem.
    The problem is not VI specific. All text (menus, comments and so on) have this ugly font.

    I am trying to instal new Samsung camera software on computer using windows Vista, but Acrobat Reader 7 showing as having compatibilty problems, although all camera info states it is all supposed to be compatible with this programme. Adobe technical support unable to help other than by suggesting I post message on here. Any speedy help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

    And all it took was a short phone call.

  • Acrobat Reader 11.0.07 update causes LabVIEW application to crash

    Hi All,
    I wrote an application that uses the Adobe ActiveX element to display a PDF.
    This code used to work fine, but when I updated my acrobat reader from 11.0.06 to 11.0.07 it causes the application to start very briefly displaying the icon in the taskbar but then close (without an error or warning notification).
    When downgrading to 10.0.06 the problem was solved.
    Perhaps this can be of help for others who are experiencing problems with LabVIEW / Acrobat Reader.
    Chris

    This is a known problem that everybody is yelling about and the solution is to not upgrade to 11.0.07. You don't have to all the way back to V10. 11.0.06 works fine. Just remember to configure Acrobat to not automatically update itself.

  • Acrobat Reader 9 + DdeClientTransaction + FilePrintTo

    Hello,
    this is my problem, I'm developing a software C++ based with a PDF Print functionality using DDE messages.
    The actual released version print PDF with Acrobat 7 and all run correctly, DDE management below:
    ShellExecute for Acrobat Reader execution
    DDE:
    DdeInitialize with CBF_FAIL_ALLSVRXACTIONS
    DdeCreateStringHandle for "acroview"
    DdeCreateStringHandle for "control"
    DdeConnect
    DdeCreateDataHandle for "[FilePrintTo(...)]"
    DdeClientTransaction with DdeCreateDataHandle and XTYP_EXECUTE
    This code run correctly both Acrobat Reader 7,8 and 9
    Now I'm developing a new release for manage multi-instance of Acrobat Reader and I need to control the single instance directly, this is the new logic:
    ShellExecuteEx for Acrobat Reader execution
    DDE:
    DdeInitialize with CBF_FAIL_ALLSVRXACTIONS
    DdeCreateStringHandle for "control"
    DdeConnectList for check all opened instances of Acrobat Reader
    First strange case, if I pass to DdeConnectList both Topic and Service no instance of Acrobat Reader was found, I must pass only the Topic.. why??..
    Now I loop the connections list with DdeQueryNextServer to find my original instance of Acrobat Reader and get the relative HCONV
    DdeCreateDataHandle for "[FilePrintTo(...)]"
    DdeClientTransaction with DdeCreateDataHandle, the found HCONV and XTYP_EXECUTE
    Now the problem: anytime I launch a print task the DdeClientTransaction fail, the pdwResult return DDE_FNOTPROCESSED and DdeClientTransaction return DMLERR_INVALIDPARAMETER
    I don't understand where is the problem, the parameters are correct and are the same of the previuos versions.. but the only one difference from the previous version is the connection management, the first with DdeConnect is DDE that check for an open acrobat window and send the dde message by itself, in the new case I search the right window and I send dde message to this one.. any ideas?
    Let me know... I don't know what also can try..
    Thanks
    Giordano Pellegri

    So.. no the problem isn't the number of instances.. but the method to send data between my client DDE app and the Acrobat Reader DDE Server, in my old version I use the method DdeConnect to connect but I don't know to which Acrobat I will connect to, in the other version I use DdeConnectList for check all the Acrobat DDE Server are running, then I select my Acrobat DDE Server and I use this one with the DdeClientTransaction.
    With DdeConnect my sw run correctly with Acrobat Reader 7,8 and 9 without problems.
    Some pieces of code
    Old method:
      hConv = DdeConnect(dwDDEInst,
        hszApplication,
        hszTopic,
        NULL);
      hTransaction = DdeClientTransaction((LPBYTE)hDataHandle,
          (DWORD)-1,
          hConv,
          NULL,
          0,
          XTYP_EXECUTE,
          TIMEOUT * 1000 * multiplier,
          NULL);
    New method:
       hConvList = DdeConnectList( (DWORD)dwDDEInst,
              (HSZ)NULL,
              (HSZ)hszTopic,
              (HCONVLIST)NULL,
              (PCONVCONTEXT)NULL);
    while ((hConv = DdeQueryNextServer(hConvList, hConv)) != NULL)
    some check for my acrobat window/dde
         hConv = DdeQueryNextServer(hConvList, hConv);
       hTransaction = DdeClientTransaction((LPBYTE)hDataHandle,
          (DWORD)-1,
          hConv,
          (HSZ)NULL,
          (UINT)NULL,
          (UINT)XTYP_EXECUTE,
          (DWORD)TIMEOUT * 1000 * multiplier, // ms timeout

  • Acrobat Reader window in Windows 7:  Menu bar disappears, window cannot be moved or resized.

    The problem appeared when Acrobat Reader XI was installed; uninstalling it, and re-installing Acrobat Reader X, didn't solve the problem:  Once a document is loaded into the reader, the Windows' menu bar is overwritten by the Reader toolbar; the window then cannot be moved, resized, or closed, and menu items such as "File" and "Edit" are unavailable.  This happens only with Acrobat Reader, and only when there is a document being viewed.  I suspect something in the Reader XI installation process clobbered a Registry entry, and it has remained clobbered

  • Old files with a large number of comments no longer work properly in either Adobe Acrobat DC or or Acrobat Reader

    I made a series of interactive ebooks wiith Adobe Acrobat Pro. They worked fine in the old Adobe Reader. But now the commenting feature does not work properly either in Adobe Reader DC or Adobe Acrobat DC.  When I open the comments, everything slows down or else I get blank pages. The tools are not usable. There seems to be some compatibility issue between what was done in these books with the commenting tools and the new applications. Has anybody experienced the same?

    Hi Anubha,
    Thanks for your reply. With the new Acrobat Reader DC, I have the same problem on two computers, one with Windows 7 and one with Windows 8.1. I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Acrobat DC on the computer with 8,1. Then I found out that I had the same problem with Acrobat DC as I did with Reader DC.
    I made these e-books with Acrobat Adobe Pro 11. I never had a problem with Pro 11 or with previous Readers. Also I have sent these e-books out to other people who had Reader 11 and they had no problems. Now it seems that the books are not usable – at least in the fullest way -- for me or for anyone else using the latest version of Reader.
    Any help would be appreciated. I have put a lot of work into these e-books.

  • SWF Export, no font showing in Acrobat and zoom border problem (Acrobat & Reader) - Indesign CS6

    Hi Everyone,
    If anyone could help me on this that would be great, I've spent hours on the forums and manuals to no avail.
    I'm making an interactive PDF brochure in Indesign for one of our new products and I'm having issues (actual or perceived??!!) with the SWF export and PDF creation.  I'm placing animations and video in the INDD, exporting it as an SWF (with the text option as Flash Classic Text) and then opening the SWF (not importing to a word doc or anything, just opening the SWF) with Acrobat using the advanced options to import the video resources and to enable the content when the page is opened.  I then save the file as a PDF.  In the PDF everything works as it should, the animations, the buttons, the video plays and so on.  Great.. hmm not quite.
    The trouble I am having is that all the content of the SWF when viewed in Acrobat seems to be getting rasterised/flattened - is this correct?  After the SWF is opened, Acrobat indicates no fonts in the fonts tab in the document properties so when the SWF is zoomed in Acrobat, or the saved PDF in Reader, the font gets pixelated and the document is not searchable/text can not be highlighted.  The images are not selectable either - it is as if the entire page has been flattened to one image.  Is there a way to stop this so that the SWF opened with Acrobat retains the font and individual images like a normal PDF?  Do I have to open the SWF in Flash first to set some parameters or something?  Is there something I am doing wrong when exprting the SWF from Indesign?  I think I have tried about every possible export combination.  When I open the .HMTL (exported at the same time as the SWF from Indesign) in a browser, the same happens.  All the animations work but the text appears to be rasterised/flattened/not searchable.  Sorry if I'm not using the correct terminology.
    I have tried importing the SWF back into another new INDD and exporting that as an interactive PDF but then the video does not work.  I suppose I could try exporting all the individual animations as SWFs, importing them all and trying to get them to work with the video but I can see that will take quite some time and does not seem to be a guaranteed solution from what I have read on the forums - video playback being the issue.
    Another problem is that when the SWF, or saved PDF, is zoomed in Acrobat/Reader between approx 150% and 210% a thick white border appears in the document and the content is squashed into the middle creating a slightly pixelated and narrow page.  When I zoom out from the page I get a small white line on the right hand border at around 70% zoom.  Please see images.  Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
    On another, sort of related topic, my timing panel went blank yesterday and was not showing any animations in documents that it had been used to order and synch animations on page load as well as new documents.  The panel was blank.  I updated to V8.0.1 and the panel sprang back into life - hope that helps anyone else finding the same problem.
    I am not very familiar with Indesign/Acrobat/Flash so I guess all the above could be what I'm doing or I could be asking  really dumb questions - apologies from a newbie.
    Best,
    Emily

    Hi All,
    I have now pretty much solved all the issues by creating the SWF in Flash rather than Indesign.  I would advise anyone looking to create an interative PDF with animation and interactivity to go with Flash from the start.  While Flash is a little more involved to create the same effects as Indesign, the extra time taken will ensure a more controllable and better looking PDF in terms of text quality, scalability and so on.  Plus you will not spend days trying to get video to work along side imported SWF etc in Indesign.  One of the best controls in Flash is being able to set the stage.scaleMode for the document so the PDF still looks crisp when zooming, no white borders etc.  So, create the .fla, export to .SWF, open the .SWF with Acrobat, modify the advanced settings to enable start on page load and save as a PDF.  If you don't know Flash, I didn't a couple of days ago, watch a couple of tutorials on Youtube.. buttons, tweens, embedding video and you'll be ready.  Don't be put off by ActionScript, there are really handy Code Snippets in CS6 that do all the heavy lifting for you.
    Sorry Indesign!
    Best,
    Em

  • Color saturation problem in Acrobat Reader 7.0.9 under Linux

    Hi,
    I'm working with a guy who is producing PDFs of my work with Indesign.
    Using acrobat reader under Linux (version 7.0.1 and also 7.0.9), the colours in these PDFs always appear very saturated. This is a big problem for me because I cannot see with the reference viewer the results of PDFs to be sent to print.
    I tried the same pdf file under OS X & Windows, it appears OK with Acrobat reader. Other free pdf readers under Linux also show the right colours (but not always the transparency ;-).
    Does anybody has an idea to help me?
    @Adobe people: in case you want to test, I drop a copy of my PDF file at: http://cardot.net/files/pdfcolours.pdf (2.24 MB)
    Thanks in advance
    Jean-Christophe Cardot

    We are able to reproduce color saturation problem at our end. We have noted down and will work on this.
    Thanks.

  • Print dialog font is too small: Acrobat Reader on Linux

    I'm running Acrobat Reader version 7.0.5 on CentOS 4.5 (RedHat Enterprise
    4.5) and find that the fonts used on the Print dialog are too small.
    They are much smaller than the fonts used on labels and other controls
    in the rest of the application, and are very difficult to read. By
    comparison, they seem to be about 1/2 the size of the font used by the
    Reader menu bar (File, Edit, View, ...).
    I've gone through the Edit -> Preferences, but don't see anything which
    will change the size of the fonts used on this dialog.
    Is there a configuration file or some other way that I can increase the
    size of these fonts?
    Thanks,

    the issue occurs on systems running debian-etch, debian-etch'n-half,
    debian-lenny, and gentoo with xdm as display manager and fvwm as
    window manager. the x-server runs with the '-dpi 75' option regardless of
    the screen's physical dimensions. the screen's resolution is 1600x1200.
    for me it looks like acroread is creating it's dialog boxes independently
    from gtk-settings in $HOME/.gtkrc-2.0 (apart from the OK/Cancel buttons of
    the printing dialog) and while doing so, it makes wrong assumptions about
    the font-size by using the dpi setting of the screen to calulate the physical
    dimention of the screen. if the x-server is running with '-dpi 100' the
    dialog fonts are considerably bigger, but still differs from the settings
    in $HOME/.gtkrc-2.0. for example when you make setting of
            style "default"
                    font_name = "Verdana 24"
            class "*" style "default"
    then you don't get neither Verdana nor 24pt fonts in the whole acroread
    gui except for  the menubar and the OK/Cancel buttons of the printing
    dialog, while any other gtk-program like firefox, thunderbird, and others
    apprear completely in Verdana 24pt -- which is of course far too big, but
    illustrated the issue very clearly.
    screenshots (with gtk-fonts set to Verdana 24pt and Tahoma 11pt) are
    inserted below. (as you can see, the printing dialog and advanced printing
    dialog even use different fonts.)
    thank you very much for the very quick reply.
