Acrobat (Reader) 8 not capable of opening AES-256 protected rights management PDF?

Is this really true?
Didn't find a datasheet explaining the Client-side requirements, when
AES-256-encrypting PDF documencs with LCRM.
In my lab it seems, as if Reader-9 can open those documents fine, while Reader-8 fails decrypting.

Acrobat/Reader 9 were the first version to incorporate AES-256 code, so if you want to remain backwards compatible with Reader 7 or 8 you need to continue to use AES-128. I believe this is documented in the help for the section that describes how policy edit works.

Did you ever install Acrobat? It is not installed automatically with CS, but requires an extra installation step.

  • Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

There is a check box in the preference (under edit). I have not had great success with this setting, but that is what it is supposed to do. Don't expect it to happen in Chrome that has it's own PDF viewer (or the preview function on a MAC). You might also check the settings for your particular browser.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader has not been installed on your computer

I get this error when trying to print from a website.
Adobe Acrobat Reader has not been installed on your computer.
You will be directed to a site where you can download
the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
But I already have reader installed and its up todate. HELP. I use a mac, This happens on Chrome and Firefox.
I have tried disabling and re abling the plugin. I disabled the default browser viewer. still cannot view the item to print.

Have you done ALL OF THIS?
In Firefox make sure you have at least two (2) tabs open - (Ctrl+T opens a new tab)
In the address bar of one tab, type "about:config" - minus the quotes, of course
You'll see a warning. Click "I'll be careful, I promise" and continue to the configuration page.
There's a search bar at the top. Type "js" - again, minus the quotes.
In the results you'll see pdfjsviewer.disabled with a vaule of false. Click it once, then right click it and choose Toggle to make the value "True".
    Close that tab.
Click Tools>Options and go to the Applications tab
Locate Adobe Acrobat Document (or Portable Document File (PDF)) in the list and click the drop-down to select "Use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)". (Mine doesn't have that because I also have Acrobat Pro installed)
    Click OK.
Click Tools>Addons to see that the Acrobat plugin is installed
Close and restart Firefox. PDFs should now open in a browser window with the Reader plugin.

  • Launch Acrobat Reader 8 not-maximized

I have a flex 3 app (not AIR) for which I am launching the
acrobat reader 8 with a pdf that the user selects from a tree
    control. The code looks like....
    var pdfUrl:URLRequest = new URLRequest("
    http://server/pdftest/1.pdf");
    navigateToURL(pdfUrl,"_blank");
I have set the Internet options in the Adobe Acrobat Reader
to not launch in the browser. The problem is that every time the
reader launches it is maximized....is there a way to launch it so
that it is not maximized (even if it will use its last window size
    would be good).
    Thanks

When I print to PDF using Acrobat 11 Pro from any application the acrobat Reader does not launch automatically. Associations are correct. Happens from Chrome, IE, Word, Excel, Powerpoint. Previously had deskPDF installed but uninstalled correctly. Can't find a preference setting for the auto launch. Thx for your help,  Bruce

A simple way is to flatten the form fields, which converts the field appearances to regular page contents. You can do this with JavaScript or PDF Optimizer (Advanced > PDF Optimizer > Discard Objects > Flatten form fields). A very nice script that adds a custom menu item can be found here: http://www.uvsar.com/projects/acrobat/flattener/

  • Form created in Acrobat Pro 9 not able to open in Reader 8? Help!

I created a form in Acrobat Pro, version 9 and enabled the extended features so that the user in reader is able to save the document after filling it out. The only problem is that it seems that the document can only be opened in Acrobat Reader X because when opened up in earlier versions of Reader, it asks to be upgraded in order to fill in the form. Is there any way of "saving down" the file so that people can view and fill out the form who are using Reader 7 or 8 or 9?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your reply Torben. When I export the pdf after adjusting the settings in pdf optimizer, I have "discard form fields" unclicked, but it still flattens the form fields and so that was the reason I did not save down and make compatible with version 7 or later.
Any other suggestions? There must be a way to make it compatible while keeping the form fields.?
    Thanks in advance!

  • On linux, Acrobat Reader will not open files on SMB server

I try double clicking a file on a network SMB server in Nautilus on Ubuntu and Acrobat reader starts but does not open the file.
    What's going on?
    Alex

Hi Alex,<br /><br />Just for confirmation, have you opened the Windows share in Nautilus directly i.e. using URL of the form smb://<server-name>/<share-name>/ and then trying to open the PDF file by double-clicking?<br />If that is the case, it is a known issue.<br /><br />In the meantime, one way to open the PDF file (if you have sufficient privileges) would be to mount the SMB share, open the share (from the mount point) in Nautilus and then try to open the PDF by double-clicking?<br />Could you please try this and let us know if there are any issues with this?<br /><br />Thanks for the feedback,<br />Varun

  • Acrobat reader file not opening

i can not open this PassportApplicationForm_Main_English_V1.0.zip file with acrobat reader X , this file before downloading asked to install acrobat version 9 and above which i did.

You need to unzip the file before using Reader.

  • Acrobat Reader will not open scanned files

Since upgrading to Adobe Reader X, I have been unable to view any documents scanned with my Lexmark printer/scanner.
Until now, I have scanned documents to a PDF in the following manner:
    -  I Press Scan mode on Printer/Scanner
    -  Printer/Scanner downloads Application List
    -  I choose "Scan to Acrobat Reader" and press Start to begin
    -  Printer/Scanner screen says "Scanning to Acrobat Reader" as document scans & "Scanning Completed" when it finishes
    -  Message box displays on Computer screen that says "adding image"
    -  ABBYY FineReader 6 Plus progression meter is displayed on Computer screen until document is 100% processed.
    -  PDF file of the scanned document opens on Computer screen by Acrobat Reader
Since upgrading to Adobe Reader X, everything works the same except the final step.  I am unable to view the PDF, and therefore I am unable to save the document.  Does anyone know of any settings in Adobe Reader X that I need to adjust so that Adobe could work the same as the earlier version and create a PDF of a scanned document?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jay

I never did get a response to my original post, but I would like to share with others what I did to finally fix the problem.
The problem I described in my original post was with a Lexmark x4580 printer.
I removed Adobe X from my PC and downloaded previous versions of Adobe reader until I found one that worked.  It turned out that Adobe Reader 7 worked.  I was able to scan a document from my Lexmark x4580 printer and Adobe 7 opened the document on my PC in a PDF.
I hope this info helps out anyone having a similar problem.
    Take care and God bless,
    Jay

  • Acrobat Reader x 10.0 - Cannot open pdf as a single file

I am using Acrobat Reader x 10.0 on Win 7 64 bit OS.
I save Filemaker 11.0 Reports as PDF Individual Single Files, to a Folder on my Hard Drive.
On some occasions, I can have been able to open these Individual Reports files as a Single Files, each of about 540KB.
On many occasions, when I open what had been saved as a Individual Single File, the actual report saved does not appear on the page, but can be found down the left side, amongst other similar Files and the File size is 1855KB or more, depending how many other files are included.
My intent is to include an Individual Single File as an attachment to an email, but I do not want the recipient to see all the other individual files.
How can I ensure, when I save the Filemaker Individual Report as a PDF file, it can only open as the same Individual Single Report File that had been saved, on its own and not with multiple similar files.
This problem is a pain in the butt and has brought my project to a standstill.
Is this a Design Problem, A Settings Preferences Problem or a Problem caused by me.
I have not encountered this before.
Thank You and hoping someone has the answer I need.

After some persistance and much trial and error, I believe I have overcome this silly problem.
When I save the Filemaker Database Record as a pdf file and the Save As Panel pops up on the screen, there is a Save Box that contains three choices, one of which says "Current Record". When I choose this, everything seems to work fine. So, I guess this is the Fix.
Sorry if I have raised unneccessary concerns within the Forum.

  • Acrobat Reader 9 Crashes PC When Opening 2 Documents Simultaneously (2D Graphics Acceleration Relate

    Hey all,
Weird issue. I noticed my Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 crashes when opening two PDF's simultaneously. The first one opens just fine. The second one, a new window opens, but there's only black inside the 2nd Reader window. It finally (after way too long) begins to show the document, and then I get a blue screen of death with a fault in nvlddmkm.sys, the nVidia display driver for my video card. It says it was unable to reset the display drivers, dumps the memory, and reboots. One interesting note is that if I close the "black" window before it blue screens, I can continue using the computer with no crash. It's only if I give it time to try to display.
I already found the temporary fix for this, which is disabling 2D Graphics Acceleration in the Acrobat Reader (Edit -> Preferences -> Page Setup). Fortunately I'm on a fast computer, so this doesn't affect performance much, but it still obviously isn't ideal, and I'd like to see the problem resolved.
I don't experience this problem with any other programs at the moment, so I'm thinking it's an issue with Adobe's product or possibly the nVidia drivers, but thought I should mention it and see if anyone has any other possible fixes where 2D Graphics Acceleration can remain enabled.
    Thanks all!

I am having the exact same issue... it's so frustrating! Does anyone have a solution to this?
Running CS4 on a Core i7 workstation w/ Win 7 64-bit, latest BIOS and video card drivers (ATI Radeon 4890). Acrobat is version 9.3 with all updates. It freezes for 30 seconds just as described, every single time you launch it.

  • New PCs Acrobat Reader hangs up IE 7 opening PDF

    Hi,
we made all PCs new with Windows XP prof wit hactual MS Patches and only Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    Starting Adobe Reader works
    double click a pdf works
Opening a pdf in outlook works
ONLY OPENING A PDF IN IE 7 DOESN`T WORK. BLANK SCREEN AND IE: NO RESPONSE
    Any Hints?
PS. Domain Administrator works, User as local Administrator works not.

Yes, it rules out any version mismatch. Still not sure what might be happening.
You say that it works when logging in as Domain admin works but doesn't for local admin. Who installed Reader - domain admin?
One thing to try would be to Repair using the local admin and see if that fixes the problem.

  • Acrobat reader will not print what is showing on the screen

I created a business card in a graphic design program,  exported it as a PDF file. When I open the pdf file in acrobat, it will display correctly on the screen, but will not print correctly.
When I click on the print icon, a box opens and shows a small preview of what is supposed to print. What shows in the small preview box is correct, but when it prints, it drops off text.
When I go back to the program that created the card, it will print correctly from that program.  When I open the pdf file in Photoshop, it will print correctly in Photoshop.  It just drops off text in Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Reader when printing.

This sounds very similar to the issue that I am having.
acrobat pro printing correctly ,same file with adobe reader printing grey instead of black.
Unfortunately I have not yet gotten any feedback, and your post being over 45 days without a response doesn't bode well for my issue either.
    Sorry I can't help you.
