Acrobat / Reader Crashing When Editing Form Values

I'm supposed to be designing an interactive PDF form for a client using InDesign. They have sent me their current one but I found whenever I try to enter a field value into a text field, it crashes whichever app I'm using to view it.
I thought maybe the PDF was corrupted, so I created a new document from scratch with just one text field on there… and still they freak out just when I try to enter a value into it!
I then opened it in Apple Preview, and they work fine. Both PDFs in fact.
But in Acrobat / Reader all I get is the spinning wheel for ages and I have to force quit.
I'm running the latest version of Acrobat XI Pro on Mac OS X Lion with Adobe CC
Does anyone know what the problem might be? This issue is making the job hard to work on

It looks like you may not have the latest update (10.1.2) installed, so you might want to check that.

  • Mac Acrobat XI crashes when editing, commenting, or creating forms

    Greetings,
Using the most current acrobat pro (11.0.01) version, no adobe third party plug ins, Mac OS 10.8.2, plenty of ram, document properties completely open, yet it crashes once I begin to use any editing or populate any field from a created form.  I can replicate this every time and is rather frustrating!  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

You may have a Font issue.
First try Repairing permissions. (Disk Utility locate in Utilities Folder)
Next Open FontBook. and try to validate fonts.
If there are any that have out right warning in red remove those.
Those that are in yellow usually indicate you have duplicate copies.  remove the duplicate copies keep the newest version only.
Mountain Lion (OSX.8.x)  read the information here: http://www.phillipmjones.net/Font_Book.html.
    See if this helps.
Also get rid of any postscript Fonts. Use the Open type version or Truetype only.

  • Adobe 10.1.8 crash when edit forms

I'm trying to add form fields to an unlocked PDF created by someone else, and it is constantly crashing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Are you referring to the free Adobe Reader version 10.1.8? If so, the typewriter tool will only appear in PDF files that have been reader-enabled in Acrobat first for this version. Reader XI, however, has all the markup tools available under the Comment pane.

  • Adobe Acrobat 11.0.0-11.0.9 crashing when clicking form box, saving, or closing form

I have a user that is using Adobe Acrobat Pro (originally 11.0.0 until I updated it to 11.0.9) that recently began having issues with editing forms within adobe.  She will open them, however periodically Acrobat will crash when she either clicks on a Form Box to highlight it, sometimes after she makes a change to the form and chooses to save the file, or virtually all of the time when she tries to close the form.  I have uninstalled Adobe Reader, Acrobat, Flash Player and reinstalled all of the above, along with using the utility to clean uninstall acrobat.  After the clean uninstall/reinstall, it would crash constantly whenever anything was done until it was updated, and then everything seemed fine for clicking on Form Boxes in edit mode, making changes, and saving, however it still crashed each time she would click on the "x" within the top right hand corner to close the form.  I performed the next update, and it seemed more issues began to happen.  I've done a repair a few times, and if anything, this only seemed to worsen the problems.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this?
    Kind regards,
    Rick E

Yes, the folder exists and I am able to access it.

  • Why does acrobat reader crash upon opening in iMac os 10.10.1

why does acrobat reader crash upon opening in iMac os 10.10.1

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Illustrator CC 17.1.0 crashes when editing preferences, user interface. Running on MacBook Pro i7 OSX 10.9.5

Illustrator CC 17.1.0 running on MacBook Pro i7 OSX 10.9.5 - crashes when editing preferences, user interface. Also crashes when quitting application. Anybody any ideas?

While 2 GB is the absolute minimum to install Mavericks, if you want to do anything with the Mac you need more then that. Upgrade your RAM.
Until you upgrade the RAM seriously consider shutting down the Mac nightly. You should also seriously review the items in the User Login Items to see if there are any there that you really don't need to have startup with your login to reduce the amount of RAM you are using.

  • Acrobat Reader crashing alot

    Hello,
My Acrobat Reader crashes frequently. I've uninstalled it, confirmed my system exceeds the system requirements, and installed it again. When it crashes, I receive an error message about something called Data Execution Prevention (DEP). Does anyone know if Adobe has a DEP-compatible version of Acrobat Reader X? Or how I can ask Adobe directly? Has anyone experienced similar issues? Do you have any other light to shine?
Thank you; I am just finding my way around here, so please forgive me if these questions are really basic and/or ought to be unnecessary.
    Thank you. ~ Anne Marie

    I appreciate the response.
Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium (copyright 2007, Service Pack 2)
When it crashes, the message is "Adobe Reader has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The next one is: Adobe Reader was closed.
Then, a longer message comes up near the program icon at the bottom strip across my window, about the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) -- it is one of those that is only there fleetingly, and I cannot copy it down in time before it disappears. However  it contains a link to an FAQ about Data Execution Prevention (DEP).
I gather that Windows feels obligated to close the program for one of two reasons: either security has been breeched (I ruled that out) OR there's an issue with how/what part of my system's memory is being accessed.
    Thank you!

  • Iphoto crashes when editing scans

    Hi,
I have scanned some old family photos and I am now trying to edit them (they are jpeg files). I've read many of the posts here and have followed every advice (newest iphoto version, rebuilt library, etc.....) Then I built the new library with a few of the scans imported and a few "regular" photos.  Iphoto still crashes when trying to edit scans, but seems to be doing ok when editing the "regular" photos. Any advice?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos or each, both the b/w and color scans and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?  It you don't crash when editing in the test library then your current library is damaged.
If that's the case apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Acrobat 7 crashes when started

    Hi,
Before system restore (Windows XP), Acrobat 7 had been working correctly for the past 2-3 years. I had to restore my system back and, afterwards, Acrobat crashes when started. No significant error message reported. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat but still crashes when started. I've reinstalled updates and still crashes. I've repeated the above procedure (uninstall/reinstall/update) a number of times but Acrobat still crashes when started. BTW I managed to "preserve my registration" since I was reinstalling Acrobat on same computer. So, what's going on? Need help to resolve this problem.

    Hi pelletie,
Please try the following basic troubleshooting steps :
    > Remove Acrobat by using the Acrobat Cleaner tool ( Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs )
    > Disable all Non-Microsoft Startup Services. (Ref : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/disable-startup-items-services-windows.html )
    > Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
Reboot and try installing and check.

How to update a version 6.0 of Acrobat Reader Professional when upgrading windows XP to 8.1 ?

There is no product called Acrobat Reader Professional. There are two possibilities with different answers.
    1. You have Acrobat Professional (no "Reader"). You will have to buy the latest, Acrobat 11 (XI) Pro. No upgrade pricing is available for version 8.
    2. You have Adobe Reader (no "Professional"). You can download the latest free Adobe Reader http://get.adobe.com/reader
