Acrobat Reader don't allow this file type to be opened! (Excel)

I have several PDF files that were generated in a previous version of Adobe Acrobat. They are converted folders from outlook into PDF. These PDF's contain email communication about a certain topic. Some of the emails contain attachments, like excel workbooks. It worked fine.
But now I have switched to newer versions of Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat, suddenly I get the message "Acrobat cannot open the file type attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened". See picture below.
What is the solution here!
I have Adobe reader 9.5.5 and Adobe Acrobat X (Version 10.0.0) installed om my computer (Windows 7). Going back to the previous versions is not the solution, because the software / hardware are supplied/set by my company policies.
Thanks in advance.

I've found the solution myself.
Go to Edit --> Preferences --> Trust Manager and select "Allow opening of non-PDF file attachements with external applications". See below.

  • Cannot open the file attachment because your PDF file attachment settings do not allow this file type to be opened.

I think this issue may have been posted elsewhere, but I have tried all solutions offered with no success.  I am attempting to open a Link within a secure PDF file when I receive the error above. I have made registry changes and verified the trust manager settings. Is there anything else I can do?

You should be able to check by opening the Attachments panel on the left (paperclip icon) and looking at the file extension.

    Hi eleanora27327971,
I don't think there's a problem with the PDF file that you converted--that sounds more like a browser setting. What browser are you using? Are you able to download files from other websites? Or, are you able to log in to https://cloud.acrobat.com using a different web browser, and download from that browser? (See System requirements | Acrobat.com for a list of supported web browsers.)
Tell me a bit more about your setup (what operating system, browser and version), and I should be able to point you in the right direction.
    Best,
    Sara

  • 'This file type is not allowed...' error on uploading CX Archive file

On uploading modified jar file to the exisiting CX archive path, it says 'This file type is not allowed. Please choose another file.'. This issue occurs only in the TEST environment while the error is not thrown in DEV. Any idea why this might be? Tried renaming it to .zip, but it did not help either. Thanks in advance.

Here is the Response from our DBA. "I reviewed those docs (Notes 1432305.1 & 1357849.1 ) and these file format already included in Jan Security patches".
Did your DBA follow the instructions in Note 1357849.1 to change the security structure to allow .jar files?
It looks like we already have both January and April security Patches applied on the environment but we are still facing this issue. We are not facing this error in another Instance Where we don't have these security patches applied. Any direction? Please see Note: 1357849.1 and make sure the solution is implemented. If you still get the same issue, please log a SR.
    Thanks,

In case you did not find it, the following is a copy/paste of the Announcement on Premiere Elements 19/NVIDIA GeForce
that appears at the top of this forum.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing
Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling
back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow
glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies
to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of
the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere
Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.

    Hello ozne,
as a first step please have a look at these "General infos about the Adobe Account"
    https://www.adobe.com/account.html and http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.
Did you purchase your product from these firms like Amazon? If yes, this is not a serial number, only a code with which you can request a serial number from Adobe. Please have a look at http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html. (Start here: How did you purchase your product?)
The following part, so I just see at least, ceased to exist on my Adobe website, everything takes place in the link from above. I leave it as an info yet, it might still fit for you. For this purpose, please click your way through to your Adobe Store and find the button "Get Serial Number". Fill in the form and after a while you will get the real serial number.
    Good luck!

  • Changing file type API to open with Adobe Reader 9.2

In windows XP, if I go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins, it shows the API extension to be File Type AcroExch.plugin
This seems to be because Adobe Acrobat 5.0 is installed first on the PC, then Adobe Reader 9.2 is installed on the PC.
On a clean PC, if I install Adobe Reader 9.2, then the file type becomes API file.
How do I change the file type from AcroExch.plugin to API file?

I want to do this because I have a 3rd party plugin which will not work otherwise.
The 3rd party plugin is FileOpen Installer.
    http://plugin.fileopen.com
If Adobe Reader 9.2 is installed on the PC first, then the folder c:\program files\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\plug_ins looks like the attached JPG Adobe Reader 9 Plugin working.jpg
FileOpen Plugin works with the above situation.
Note that it is a 3rd party supplier which sends files which require the 3rd party Plugin FileOpen and a test document is here
    http://fileopen.bl.uk:8008/FileOpenFreeLink-1.0/entryPage.do;jsessionid=FADC8178CCD0236480 199338A79483E7
If Adobe Acrobat 5.0 is installed on the PC first and the Adobe Reader 9.2, then the folder c:\program files\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\plug_ins looks like the attached Adobe Reader 9 Plugin Problem.jpg and the test file sent by the British Library above will not open.
You get the following when you try to open the British Library test file (see British Library2.jpg)
FileOpen is installed as a 3rd Party Plugin in Adobe Reader 9.2 and I can see this under Help About 3rd Party Plugins FileOpen Installer.
(Note Adobe Acrobat 5 runs via a network install and is not installed onto the workstation so I can't remove it via Add/Remove Programs).
So I am guessing the problem is to do with the API file type being different when Adobe Acrobat 5 is installed first?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Advice on allowing specific file types to be written to USB flash drive

We currently have all of the Removable Storage Access policies enabled (Computer Config > Policies > Admin Templates > System/Removable Storage Access) and would like to know if it is possible to allow specific file types to be exempted from this
policy. Specifically we need to allow certain users to write to USB flash drive but need to limit to MS Office files only.  Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Third party products can do that. GPO cannot.

  • Do you want to use RarGenie to open this file type??

    The short answer is NO!
Another user of my laptop (honest) downloaded some software that changed our default search engines to searchmoose.
I deleted the app, the accompanying "Install Mac" folder in the applications and reset all the search engines.
Everything now seems fine, except for when I download a Rar file, I get a popup window asking "Do you want to use RarGenie to open this file type??"
I've ran a CalmXav scan which came back with nothing. I've followed the instructions for others who have had similar issues, but still have the issue. I've even allowed RarGenie to try and expand a folder, then used AppCleaner to remove all accompanying files, but I still have the issue.
Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks!
That seems to have sorted it.
I'd tried all the stuff on that page and run AdwareMedic before, but it didn't pick up anything.
I ran it again this morning and it found 3 files which, once removed, stopped the annoying prompt.
    Your advice is much appreciated.

downloaded acrobat reader 11 onto my Mac Book Pro, it can open the file but will not print. Get a message that says PDF cannot be printed, however, I forwarded it to someone else and they could print it, no problem. I called HP and spent an 1hour with them and then called Apple support and worked with them for 3 hours. No one can figure it out. Is there something wrong with this version? the pdf was created in 2004. Do I have to pay to get Acrobat?

Let me give you a slightly different perspective than everyone else here.  You are using an unsecured wireless network, which means that all your network traffic is easily available for viewing by anyone else using that network.  That's bad.  Very bad, for you, unless you absolutely trust everyone who lives within range of this network.  So stop doing it.
As to the Mac not connecting, wireless networking is simply too complex for any reasonable answer without more information.  There are many possible error points, and as often as not it's the Mac that can connect and the Windows PC that cannot.  Since you can't give us any information about the configuration of the neighbor's network, and can't make any changes to it, we can't do much to help you troubleshoot it.

  • Your current security settings do not allow this file....

Trying to download the latest version of iTunes and get the message "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." I have made no changes at all, previous to attempting to download this update and have never had a download problem previous to this. I turned off my antivirus and set my browser security to its' lowest security level; still get the same message.

Uh...that would be a tad difficult. I'm not supposed to have it. No one is...yet. I keep in touch with a friend I worked with as a PC tech about 10 years ago at a Best Buy (while in college.) He does Beta testing, sends me odds and ends (that typically wreck my system) and this one halfway works (actually less than half the features.) But, I've escaped bad software in the past using it. Sometimes, however, it prevents good software from loading as well. That's why I have asked if anyone else reported this kind of thing.
The name, if you can find it, is 'Illegal Opcodes Anti-Trash.' Illegal Opcode is a screen name, by the way. And, it was written using Visual Basic. That's about all I can give you; that's pretty much all I know.
If anyone else can verify something similar to this, let me know. I could uninstall it (Anti-Trash) and try again, but I just read other peoples problems and I'm a little leary to say the least. My current version of iTunes still works fine, so why risk it.
    Thanks for the feedback,
    Bradley

  • Firefox will not save my "Always do this with this file type" preference.

Alright, bear with me because I am extremely new to Firefox. Anyway, when I download a .torrent file for uTorrent, it asks me the obligatory "What to do with this file type" question. Great. But when I checked to be sure it was opening uTorrent (Yes.) and ticked the "Always do this for this file type" box. Then, I clicked "OK". Awesome.
Then, after that, when I try to download a .torrent file it asks the same question again. Click click. and again. click click. and again......you get the picture. Why wont it remember this preference?

Sites override the "Always do this" preference by serving files with a special HTTP header known as '''Content-disposition: Attachment'''
You can look for this happening by installing the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3829 Live HTTP Headers] extension then accessing it from the '''Tools''' menu just before clicking a .torrent link to monitor the headers sent.

despite the workaround, it doesn't fix the real problem. It shouldn't be a huge deal for adobe to add support for multiple svn versions. Dreamweaver is the first tool i've used that works with svn that doesn't support several types of svn meta data. If they're going to claim that Dreamweaver supports svn is should actually support svn, the current version, not a version several years old. This should have been among the first patches released, or at least after snow leopard came out (and packaged with it the current version of svn).
does anyone know if the code that handles meta data formatting is something that is human readable, or where it might be, or is it in compiled code.
i signed up for the forums, for the sole purpose of being able to vent about this very frustrating and disappointing situation.
