Acrobat reader error 1500 still, no source

I am continually prompted to update acrobat reader from 9.3.1 to 9.3.2... I try and it fails: error 1500.
I try to manually load patch, it fails... says cannot find installation source.
I try to remove Acrobat Reader and fail... says cannot find installation source.
I try to WIndows Installer Cleanup... nothing happens.
We try calling for technical support... they say there is none because it's a free program--use the forum.
The original thread on error 1500 never provided any solution for me... and now it's locked.

There is not modern program called Acrobat Reader. There is an Adobe Reader program, there is an Adobe Acrobat (Pro or Std) program. Which program are you using? Under which OS?

  • Acrobat Reader Error ...There was a problem reading this document(107)...

I created several PDF files from within stored procedure using oracle's PL/PDF package and I email the files, as an attachment, to myself. When I attempt to open a file with a size greater than 100k, I receive an error message of 'There was a problem reading this document(107)'. When I click on ctrl-OK I get 'Error reading xrefx entry' error message. However, if the file size is < 100k, it opens fine. I am using Acrobat Reader version 5.1.0.
Does anyone know the solution to this?

  • Reader Error 1500, CPSID_83708, Please Help!

I have a most difficult problem with Reader. I currently have version 8.2.4 installed on my computer, and have for years now Reader updated itself automatically. An icon would appear in my system tray, I would click it, and the update took place no problem. Not this time however.
My computer is an HP Pavillion, A250E, bought in 2003. It runs Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002. It has Service Pack 3 installed. My problem began today, 10/7. I noticed the update icon in my tray, so I clicked on it. When I did, I noticed it said "Installing Update" and "Patching files". It also said "File: Updater.api Size: 224355 bytes". I let this run for a while, then noticed that nothing seemed to be hapoening after about 5 minutes. I waited another 5 minutes, and nothing had yet happened. Now, all that is going on is that I have this icon just sitting in my tray, and when I click it, I see a window open with the information that I indicated above.
I then went online to search for solutions. Probably the best was to download the Windows Installer Clean-up utility. So I did that...Microsoft does not seem to support the utility anymore, so I downloaded it from Majorgeeks.com. However, when I try to install it, I get a message saying "Error 1500: Another installation is in process". I then have an opportunity to retry or cancel the installation of the clean-up utility. When I choose Retry, nothing happens. I continue to hit Retry, but nothing happens. I am then forced to abort the install of the clean-up utility.
I have seen that using the clean-up utility has worked for some people. However, I cannot even install it on my computer. I'm not seeing the error 1402 that a lot of people are having along with the error 1500.
I have tried to uninstall Reader from my conputer using Add/Remove programs from within Windows, but when I do, I get this message: "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install."
As you can see, I am in a vicious Catch-22 here. I can't install the clean-up utility to uninstall the update, and I can't uninstall Reader itself.
Could someone please help me? I would like to uninstall the update or uninstall Reader and do a fresh installation. By the way, according to Add/Remove programs within Windows, there is this listed under Adobe Reader 8.2.4: "Adobe Reader 8.2.4 - CPSID_83708". I believe that is the update giving me these problems.
All seems well with my system except for this issue. I am concerned about system safety though...unless I can update Reader, I could get a nasty virus or who knows what the next time I look at a PDF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to one and all for any help.
    Thank you
    Dave K.

Here are the steps that should help-
    1. Start Reader application, open Edit\Preferences menu and select Updater
    2. Disable automatic updates
    3. Reboot the system
    4. Install Cleanup tool and get rid of Reader
    5. Install new Reader from Adobe.com
    Good luck

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader error code (103:103)

I cannot open online PDF files as I keep getting error code (103:103) then asks me to exit and try again.

The  etc etc refers to the usual standard message as follows - also re Acrobat I was merely repeating the message given.
'there is a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader. If it is running exit and try again (103:103)' this was the exact message given. I had version 11.0.08 which I have now deleted and am using an earlier version 10.0.4 which seems to have resolved the problem for the time being

  • Adobe Acrobat/Reader error

In trying to print a PDF file I get the error message: "There is a problem with Adove Acrobat/Reader.  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again."  When I do, the same thing happens.
Last week I was notified by my computer that there was an update to the Adobe Reader to 9.3.1 which I installed.  I did not have a problem printing PDF files before this update but I do not know that there is a direct cause and effect.
Adobe's response is that I'm getting all the help I've paid for in my free download.

You need to uninstall, clean up the installer and reinstall Reader.
Uninstall from the Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs in XP, Programs and Features in VIsta or 7)
Download, install and run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility  (msicuu2.exe) to remove the Reader 9 installer files as well as any previous versions which may be on your system.
Redownload and reinstall Adobe Reader 9.
It should work without errors after that.

  • Unable to install Acrobat Reader, Error 1406

    Hi,

A few months ago a tried removing/uninstalling  the Reader & reinstalling, as per instructions.
I no longer have any pdf reader on this computer
This fails to install geting to 73% of install, & stopping, with Error 1406.
"Could not write Value diable exceptionchain etc etc"
I have followed the instruction as per http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1402-error-1406-acrobat.html without success.

  • After I updated to Firefox 5.0, I can't view pdf in this browser any more(Windows). I tried to install a new version (10.1) of Acrobat reader but it still doesnot work. When I clicked a link of pdf file, only can I get is a blank screen.

    as title

A workaround is to open PDFs in the application rather than the plugin. If you open tools -> options then for all the acrobat pdf options select acrobat (default) rather than acrobat (in browser) it will download and open the PDFs.

  • Acrobat Reader DC  one source of pdf attached files

I have a MacBook Pro and found that since updating to Acrobat Reader DC there is one source of pdf attached files that do not open (I just get a black screen).
I do not have this problem with my iPad nor with an iMac also running the same reader.
I cannot find any 'switches' that will resolve this problem.   I get an error message saying that Acrobat Reader DC could not open "File reference" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.  This cannot be the case as this file opens on other computers so it has to be localised to my MacBook Pro.  Other pdf files open normally and I am at a lost in deciding as to what is going wrong and how to rectify.

If the same attachment can be viewed successfully on other devices, then it must get corrupted during the download on that one machine.
People should really stop sending e-documents as attachments, it is much safer using a file sharing service such as Acrobat.com - upload and share the document, then send the download link via email.

  • Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Reader 9: cannot update, remove, or re-install ...

After I have downloaded Acrobat Professional 9.0 updates and Acrobat Reader 9 updates, both update installations fail.
    Acrobat Reader 9 problems
I thought that there could be a conflict between Acrobat Reader 9, which I have also installed, and Acrobat Professional 9.0, so I tried to remove Acrobat Reader 9, but the patch package could not be found. I then ran the Windows Install Cleanup tool, but Acrobat Reader 9 is still on my system. I now cannot reinstall it, nor can I really remove it
I’d like to remove Acrobat Reader 9 entirely because I already have Acrobat Professional 9.0, but how?
    Acrobat Professional 9.0 problems
When I try to remove Acrobat Professional 9.0 in order to re-install it from disk, I get the message that the patch package could not be found. When I insert the disk to try to repair Acrobat Professional 9.0, I get the message that the patch package could not be opened. When I try to use the Repair Acrobat Installation option in the Help menu of the program, nothing happens.
I’m hesitant to run the Windows Install Cleanup tool on Acrobat Professional 9.0 because of the problems I got with Acrobat Reader 9 after running the Windows Install Cleanup tool.
How can I re-install Acrobat Professional 9.0 from disk?

    Amanda,
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.

  • Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 document icons are missing.

    Hello,
In our company, we have deployed Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 through GPO. We used the Adobe Customization Wizard to generate a MST file (Updates disabled).
At first, all seemed to work perfect. A moment later we noticed that the icons of the PDF documents were gone.
The files are still associated with acrobat reader and everything still works fine.
We are running Windows XP Professional SP2.
    Can anyone help me?

  • Acrobat Reader 7.0 und ActiveX in Director

Acrobat Reader 7.0 verfügt nicht mehr über
"pdf.ocx".

Unfortunately, I've had no response to my post as of yet.
Interestingly, I was playing around with it a little further. I was finally able to get acrobat reader 7 to start but only under the following conditions:
    - I created a new user with no files in the home directory
    - I logged in remotely via ssh and set my DISPLAY
    - I was then able to bring up acrobat reader 7. v8 still hangs right after the GUI comes up.
I tried unset'ing all of the environment variables as my normal user and setting only the ones defined in the working environment above. v7 still would hang.
I tried 'su - newuser' but v7 would still hang.
I tried 'ssh newuser@localhost' and v7 would start.
I tried logging in via ssh as my normal user and v7 hangs.
Again, I'm stuck as to where to go from here.
