Acrobat Reader Won't Unload

I'm using Acrobat Reader XI on Windows 7.  It never unloads when I exit the program, so I end up with multiple copies eating up memory and CPU usage.  What gives?

Both.
I'm an academic, and in the course of an average day I read a *lot* of PDF files.  I have to keep Process Explorer running all the time so I can manually kill the reader before it cripples my machine.
Thanks for responding.
Cheers,

  • Acrobat Reader won't print

I installed OS 10.6 and now 10.6.1. Acrobat Reader 8 wouldn't print. Installed Acrobat Reader 9. Won't print. Canon MP530 printer gives this error message: "Unable to open raster stream. No such file or directory." No problem previously, with 10.5 and Acrobat Reader 8.

Solved my own problem; read the solution here:

Hope it works for all of you with different printers. The issue seems to be in the printer drivers, though.

  • Acrobat Reader won't open

I previously had a trial version of Acrobat Reader which expired. I then purchased it and have the following issues when I try to open it. Clicking "Reopen" does not do anything. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Jessicalang,
Please provide us the operating system details.
Did you try to license the trial version or simply reinstalled it again?

  • Acrobat Reader won't read pdfs: "file path not valid"

I thought that my PlayBook would be the perfect device to read pdfs in the Adobe Reader. The only problem is when I download a pdf from the internet, or copy a pdf from my computer, and click on the file icon from within the Reader, all I get is a cryptic error message that reads "The file path is not valid". No hints at what to do.
At first I thought it was a problem with the file. But every file suffers from the same ill fate. Do you have any suggestions?

  • Acrobat reader won't install

Hi, I am a new Mac user and I am trying to install Adobe Reader.   It keeps telling me to close Safari before it completes download but there is nothing open!?    I am confused.

You need to close the Safari process, not just the browser window.

  • PDF Opens Fine in Acrobat Reader (Windows), Won't Open in Acrobat Reader (Playbook)

Hi.  Anyone have a suggestion for a PDF file that opens fine in Adobe Acrobat Reader on one platform (in my case, both Windows Vista and Windows 7), but won't open on another (in my case, Blackberry Playbook)? This is a camera operation manual from Pentax: I have downloaded it from Canadian, US and Japanese websites (different file names, same file size), but always get the same result.
Here are some of the details:
    1. I can see the PDF file on both platforms, and it's the same size on both platforms (i.e. it's not a copying error creating a null-sized file on the Playbook).
    2. Technically, you could say it "opens" on the Playbook, because Adobe Acrobat Reader launches... but the document reads like a zero-page blank file.
    3. All the other PDFs I've ever used on the Playbook are fine: I have PDFs with hundreds more pages than this one, and they read and open OK.
I would get around the problem by saving the PDF in a different format, but password protection is preventing me from doing that.
Any suggestions you can offer will be welcome.
    Thanks.

Hi Kenneth, I am having this same issue but I am in a domain controlled environment.  What I discovered is that I had to go to the actual exe file in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe then right click on the exe, run as local administrator.  Then I got a pop-up talking about this protected mode that I have seen in other places.  I chose to ALWAYS open with protected mode disabled.  Then my reader opened and worked perfectly.  UNTIL I closed it and tried to open it again as my user.  My problem is that I can't even get to the settings as my user to be able to disable protected mode.  It seems the setting change is user to user not system wide.  I hope this helps.  Hopefully though I can get some help on being able to disable protected mode for the whole system.  I currently can't find a registry key...there must be one!!

  • Acrobat reader XI won't start

    Hello,
For quite some time now I am unable to open Adobe acrobat reader / any other PDF file.
When I open it, in windows task manager I can see there is a running process, but it stays like that.
I have tried uninstalling, restarting my pc and reinstalling but it still won't start.
I am running on Windows 7 with all the important updates installed.
    Can anybody help please?

Now I'm trying to disabled reader_sl.exe from running on startup. I don't see it in Startup menu/Services/msconfig.
The only adobe related program that is running at starting is AdobeARM.exe.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Thank you
EDIT: Ok I found it myself. It was the AdobeARM.exe that was running reader_sl.exe. Disabling it in msconfig did the trick.
From this point I am not sure if it was both the eula.exe and reader_sl.exe or just the reader_sl.exe.
Good that I found it, now I can continue using my favorite PDF reader and it seems faster without the speedlauncher. Maybe because I have SanDisk ExpressCache.

  • Acrobat Reader 10.1.4 won't open

    Hi
Recently I've been having problems with Acrobat Reader. When I open a document, after say 5 seconds it freezes every time, regardless of the document. This went on a few days, until I uninstalled it and downloaded the most recent version for Vista SP2 (10.1.4). Now it won't open at all. If I click the program icon, I get a loading disk for a few seconds, then nothing. If I try to open a document, I get the starting up banner, but nothing beyond this and when I click the screen again the banner disappears. Task manager reveals Acrobat is not running. Any ideas what is going on or how I can resolve it.
    Thanks

Sorry it's Reader, not Acrobat, I would edit the original post but can't see an option to.
Anyway, it actually will open, just takes about 15-20 minutes from clicking the icon until it does, then it works normally. I did try a repair. It said the repair completed successfully but also said 'Failed to connect to the DDE server.'

This does not look good.  I am also surprised that System Restore would do that; normally System Restore does not touch user data (Program Files); only system data (Windows).
I suggest that you run the Acrobat Removal Tool http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html (multiple times, until all Reader installations are gone), then delete these duplicate install folders, and install Reader again.

  • Acrobat Reader DC - won't print

I upgraded Acrobat Reader DC from Adobe Reader XI last week. When I tried to print any PDF. document, I get the error message "The document could not be printed. There were no pages selected to print". What went wrong? I did Repair installation, but I'm still getting the same message. I have PC and Window 7. Please help.

Try uninstalling and then re-installing. The following script may help with a complete uninstall: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

  • Acrobat Reader 7 won't open

Just installed OS 10.4 on my old Digital Audio, then installed a few other things including Acrobat Reader 7.
When i double click to open that, it appears momentarily in the taskbar, then poop...... disappears. It will not run. Anyone know the cause of this behaviour? I've seen this before when i try to run something that, say, requires Leopard. But the system requirements for Acro Reader 7 are "OS 10.2, 10.3, or 10.4". Acrobat Reader 6 runs fine, but i need features in 7. Thanks.

I regularly hear the term "repair permissions" but it is not and never has been in my universe. Someday i might try "repairing permissions" on a hard drive. But in the meantime i solved the problem by updating to OS 10.4.11 and using Acrobat Reader 8 instead. Thanks.

  • Interactive PDFs won't scale in Acrobat Reader

Once I create an interactive PDF using InDesign CS5 and view it in Acrobat Reader 10, the functionality works fine but when I scale the page size in Acrobat Reader from 100% to larger or smaller, the interactive elements stay at 100% and are cropped when the scale is smaller and have a large space around them when the scale is larger.
Is there an export feature that allows the interactive elements to scale with the page size? I can't seem to find one.
    Thanks.

How did you create it? There was a known issue with the original release of CS5 but that was supposed to be fixed with one of the patches. If you're on CS5 then you should make sure you're fully patched to 7.0.3.

  • Trouble with the advanced search function on acrobat reader. Why won't it open? it used to, but suddenly stopped working.

For some inexplicable reason the advanced search option in my acrobat reader 11.0.3 has stopped working. It worked just fine a few weeks ago. I am running Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro. When I open advanced reader the pdf file I am trying to search ceases to be the active window. But no other window exists (in 'window' search is checked, but there is nothing there!). Does anyone have any ideas. I have downloaded and re-installed reader twice, and removed all earlier versions (I think). This is kind of urgent!

It's a 3rd party app.  You really should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums
    Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS.  Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.
