Acrobat - screen view on Mac vs Windows

I create PDFs from InDesign, some of which are for printing, and some for viewing on screen, usually on PCs. I create them on my Mac.
When printed the output is perfect, but the screen versions when viewed on a PC are really patchy. Some pages have text looking really bolded and the next one is just as it looks on a Mac. All the pages viewed on the Mac are exactly right. I have two screens 2560 x 1600 and 1920 x 1200.
I have told my client that it is a PC/Mac difference but he is not convinced. He has looked at the PDFs on a 1920x1080 and lower pixels and the text is always bolded on some pages and not on others.
Does the PDF have to be created on a PC for it to look right on a PC screen? Is there any other reason for this inconsistency?
My client is very unhappy and does not want to send the documents to his client until the matter is resolved (if it is possible to be resolved).
Earlier I changed some text from very light weight -- 25 ultra light, then to 35 then to 65 Semi bold. At 65 the screen differences disappeared for this text which was on one master page and displayed on several pages, ie it was from a single text source, but looked different on some of the pages but not all. On my Mac screens all the text at all weights looked exactly the same on every page.

Have the workaround: create PostScript file to distil in Distiller.
The problem seems to be with InDesign's PDF presets commands.
The problem also displays on my Apple 17in laptop, so it is not just a PC problem.

Acrobat versions used: My Mac - Acrobat 9 Pro v9.3.3
On the PC: Acrobat Reader 9 (the latest, as it is a new PC)
The problem occurs on all levels of document produced: Pre Press, smallest file size, High Quality Print...

The problem is solved - or at least there is a workaround.
If I print to postscript, then create the PDF using Distiller then the PDFs on all screens look fine.
The problem is apparently with InDesign's (CS4) PDF rendering in the "Create PDF..." command.
Thanks for your help Stix. Yes, the document was confidential so I could not load any of it onto a public website so I downloaded PitStop instead. I am glad I did not have to buy it as it costs around €600!
I used to use Distiller a lot when I worked in Quark because its PDF creation was awful, and forgot about it until now.
I'll be contacting Adobe to see if there is a fix to the PDF/InDesign problem, though unless the problem happens in CS5 universally Adobe probably won't fix it.

  • Full Screen view on Mac

I am running Lightroom 1.1 on a Mac, OS 10.4.10. When LR is running, it fills the entire screen - and does mot show the traditional window with buttons for minimizing. I seem to remember that this was what LR looked like when I began using it, and I don't know what I did to change it, but I know that for a while I LR displayed in a traditional, re-sizable, window. Now, since I upgraded to v. 1.1, I am back to a full screen that can not be re-sized. Any thoughts on what I can do? Thanks

I just mess with Tab, F and L to get what I want! There are a lot of great shortcuts, and info in the FAQs, too.

I have a 16" mac book pro. The bottom of the Photoshop image window is below my screen view. I cannot shrink my Photoshop window!   I tried changing the Display what else can I do?

You cannot size the image window from any corner but the bottom right corner in Photoshop on a MAC
That was true for many years...but not anymore. Adobe started allowing window resize from any edge (not just any corner, but any edge) a couple of versions ago, on the Mac, to match Windows. On top of that, in OS X Lion, Apple itself now allows window resizing from any edge in any application. That said, even in Lion, I noticed that I had to move the Photoshop CS6 window edges away from the monitor edge before I would get the double-arrow resize pointer. Not sure if that's a bug. Here's a picture of what Photoshop window resizing looks like:
Also, if resetting workspaces doesn't work, you could try a complete Photoshop preferences reset. Start Photoshop CS6 and press Command+Option+Shift, and a reset dialog box should come up. Click OK.

  • IPhoto 11 window won't open, only have full screen view

After I upgraded, the iphoto window would not come up. The menu bar at the top is active, and I am able to access my photos from Full Screen View. But when I toggle back, and close full screen, everything closes...
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • The Full Screen icon does not appear in Firefox 16.0.2 on Mac OS 10.6.8, and command+shift+F does not close the full screen view.

I accidentally entered full screen view and was unable to exit. The Firefox Help article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-make-firefox-and-websites-go-full-screen?esab=a&s=full+screen+mac&r=0&as=s says I should see a Full Screen View icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Firefox window. That icon not there. I cannot find it. It does not appear in either the full screen or non-full screen views.
Further, the Help article's advice to exit full screen view by using the keyboard sequence command+shift+F does not work. I had to unplug my iMac and reboot. Firefox then opened in non-full screen view.
Ideally, hitting the Escape key would cause Firefox to exit full screen view.

I forgot one detail. This happened while I was having trouble seeing the mouse cursor (I use Apple's Magic Mouse). It had disappeared briefly. I had to drag the cursor out of the Firefox Window for it to reappear. I accidentally entered full screen view while the cursor was not visible.

  • Screen Share Mac and Windows

    Hi,
Sometimes I'm asked to help friends and family with stuff on their computers. It would be handy if I could help them remotely but I've yet to find a way to screen share between a mac and windows machine over the internet.
    Is it possible?

    HI,
A Leopard 10.5 tutorial here might help...

Sharing your screen with other computer users
You can set up your computer to allow others to view your screen and control your computer. While your screen is shared with another computer, a user of the other computer sees what’s on your screen and can open, move, and close files and windows, open applications, and even restart the computer.
    To set up screen sharing:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
All users: Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
Only these users: Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.
Click Add + at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Accounts preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list and click Select.
Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
Anyone may request permission to control screen: Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
VNC viewers may control screen with password: Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen.
It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.
For more information go to your Finder and click Help from the Menu Bar. Type in Screen Sharing in the search field.
I use the same instructions for screen sharing betweeen a Mac running 10.6 to a Mac running 10.5 and a Mac running 10.4, so hopefully the above instructions and links will help.

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

    Hi Mary,
    I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved  all the way to the left.  Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

  • How to Remove maximize/minimize/close top-bar in full-screen view [MAC]?

    Hi.
My Q. is pretty much as the title implies.
It's a small thing, and maybe kind of trivial,
but I'd like to know how to get rid of the maximize/minimize/close top-bar in full-screen view in Adobe Reader on the Mac.
I am definitely in fullscreen view [I hit command+L], just so you know,
but I still have that top grey bar showing with the maximize/minimize/close buttons [the red, yellow, and green].
As I said, kind of a trivial concern, but I'd like to know how to hide that in full-screen mode.
I tried searching around a few places for an answer, but there is nothing too obvious.
I can't find anything in the full-screen preferences of reader either. Maybe I'm missing something...
    Thanks!

Version 11.0 , so I guess that is the most recent?
I think this is an application-specific problem too, because I don't encounter this in full-screen mode with other applications.

Some files and images I open in the Photoshop window look pixelated or choppy, but when I open in Acrobat or viewer they look fine. This just started about two weeks ago. I reset my settings, and all of the the help topics come up for blurry images/re-sizing. I have had this problem with .tiff, jpg, and pdf files.

That black degradation in the background at the top looks like an old ATI driver bug where if for a given pixel the red channel reaches zero all three colors of the pixel would go black.  I think that was a couple of years ago we were seeing that.
See if AMD has released newer drivers for your FirePro card.

  • Screen sharing performanace differences on MAC and WINDOWS

    Hi All
I am having a big issue of screen share latency (working on WINDOWS) which is about to 20 - 30 sec sometime and 10 - 15 sec in general. I was thinking that It could be because of my network limits but when on the same time and in the same network I publish my screen share from MAC, miracle is happening, there is unexpected difference and there is no latency and if there, it is sometimes about 2-3 sec hardly. My maximum users are using WINDOWS and so that I am searching a solution for this latency problem. Please suggest a solution.
    Thanks.

    Hi Raff,
We have tested it on following combinations on port 443 , sending and receiving.
    1. Screen sharing on MAC machine on LAN (Result: Good speed of sharing)
    2. Screen sharing on MAC machine on WiFi (Result: Good speed of sharing)
3 Screen sharing on Windows machine on LAN (Result: Too much Latency in receiving)
4 Screen sharing on Windows machine on WiFi (Result: Too much Latency in receiving)
Specially we have noted on windows that after some time , data from windows machine (Any windows machine) screensharing addin process stop sending any significant upstream data(used netlimiter to verify this) , so reciver receives almost nothing or very delayed screen updates.
I tried to figure out using Wireshark , but not sure that which packet to look for which can cause issues.I do not see any dropped packets atleast in packet scan. But packet sending speed decreases after some time on Windows machine.
We use same settings of performance ,Quality ,Fps and Keyframes on Windows and MAC while sharing screen.
What to look in for wireshark.
Your inputs will be very helpfull.

  • How to leave full-screen view in Acrobat LE on HTC Touch Diamond?

    Hello
I have entered full-screen mode in Adobe Acrobat LE on my HTC Touch Diamond, but I cannot leave full-screen mode. There is nowhere on the screen that gives me a button to leave full-screen mode?!
I have tried using the buttons below the touch-screen but I have found nothing that works.
How do I leave full-screen mode??

    Hello again.
Well I have tried almost everything with the stylus: Zoom operations (rotations), tapping the screen, pressing and holding, double tapping... nothing allows me to exit fullscreen nor get any on-screen menus to appear!
I must admit that I am very new to the HTC Touch Diamond so maybe I am being stupid, but I really can't find any way of getting any menus or anything else to show up once I have entered full-screen viewing. My only option is to exit Acrobat by pressing the back button below the touch screen, and then I of course leave Acrobat completely.
Please tell me how exactly I must use the stylus to exit fullscreen?
    Thank you :-)
