Acrobat shows previously deleted version of a file

I'm not sure if this is a setting that I can't find or a weird issue that I have not found elsewhere on the net.
- I create a new PDF (in this case using InDesign)
- I decide to make a change and save a new PDF (over writing the old one using the same name)
- I look at the preview on the desktop which looks correct (showing the change I just made)
- When I open it in Acrobat the previous version appears without the change I just made
And to get weirder...
- If I save the new revised PDF with a different name (from InDesign) it opens fine in Acrobat but if I delete the old PDF and change the name of the new (correct) PDF back to the previous name in the finder Acrobat once again shows the previous version that theoretically has been deleted.
Needless to say this really messes with job version management.
Any thoughts out there?
Thanks

Not sure what is going on, but it is best to use Save As when saving changes. The Save saves changes and the old stuff too. It looks like somehow you have succeeded in getting to the old stuff -- I have never seen a way to get that old stuff back and now you have succeeded and don't want it. Interesting.

  • Firefox downloads previously downloaded versions of zipped files rather than current version.

On a website I manage, I downloaded a zipped MS Word file. After making changes to the file and uploading the modified file to my server, Firefox still downloads the old version of the zipped file. In fact, if I rename the file (so the link now points to a file that no longer exists on the server), the previously downloaded version of the file is STILL sent. I've used two methods (FireFTP and the server company's file manager) to rename the file, and the non-existent file is still sent.

I did reload the page (using all the methods you suggested), but still the old file. You mentioned bypassing the cache; is that something different than clearing the cache?
I don't think this is Firefox specific; the same thing is happening with IE. I'm also working with the server company to see if the problem is at their end.

  • Acrobat 8 printing old version of a file???

We have an Adobe Acrobat document that was recently changed with a new logo and some extra text on the form.  When a user opens the form with Acrobat 8, the form looks fine, but when you click the Print Button, An OLD version of the file actually opens in the Print Preview Windows and actually prints to the printer the old way.  Old way shows old logo and no added text etc.  If we open the same file in Reader 9, it seems to work fine though. Obviously we can just use Reader 9 to get around the issue, but we would rather just have this work correctly in Acrobat.
Anyone have any idea why this would be happening?  I have heard that it happened in this office before, but I don't know what they did to fix it and can't seem to duplicate it on another machine.
    Thanks in advance

I understand what you mean, but I wasn't calling Adobe asking for technical support.  I was asking if any other users in the support forum have run in to this issue before and had a fix.  I have inherited multiple versions of Acrobat at this company with single licensing so I have to work with what I am given. Once I get apporval on volume licensing then hopefully this will be a non issue.  Until then, I have to help my users with what they have, which is Acrobat 8; and still have to ask if anyone has seen this issue before?

  • New computer with 7.01 firefox does not show previous bookmarks tho all other files restored with my ClickFree backup. Found the profile but cant open places.sqlite

safely transferred all my saved files from old dead Vista to new computer with Windows 7 except for my firefox 7.01 bookmarks & QuickNote add on. i downloaded QuickNote but it is blank too. Found the profile C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\8oy034hg.default & places.sqlite but cant open the file.Windows ask what program I want to open the places.sqlite file & i said Firefox but it doesnt open. How do I open the file & get my bookmarks & QuickNote back. help pls

Why not install and try Firefox portable, it may well be a good troubleshooting step. Try running it from an external memory stick.

*How much RAM is installed ?
*What is the total size of the Hard Disk Drive ?
*What is the current amount of free-space in GB ? and as a percentage ?
I try not to use Windows but certainly at one stage a rule of thumb was 20-25% free space should be available. Under about 12% defragging of a disk would likely fail. A page file would need to be larger than the amount of RAM maybe 1.5X , and a hibernate file would be the size of the RAM.
    * Do not Hibernate if you are low on HDD space.
I suggest you proceed as follows
#Answer the above questions. I worry you have a lack of diskspace.
#Do a full scan with multiple and up-to-date anti-malware tools. Do not rely on Avast alone. No tool picks up everything. Report back what you scanned with and what was found.
#Backup and keep whatever profiles may be good or may contain recent information such as passwords and bookmarks, but do not use them yet.
#Download a new installer then Do a clean reinstall of Firefox, ensuring that the program folders are deleted before you re-install.
#Now restart, you expect the first restart to work. Close down and try again does it now work OK ?
The detailed instructions in the thread you read [/questions/958824#answer-436552] should help you.
If you have continuing problems is this after a restart of Firefox, or a restart of the Windows Operating System ?

  • Can I recover a previously saved version of a file?

    I'm working in CS3.
I opened a file (saved as #3) and used it as a template for a new design, but before saving the new design with a new file name (that would be #4) I accidently hit the save shortcut. I do not have enough undos to go back to how #3 originally was. I have kept the file open.
How can I get #3 back?
    Many thanks.

I can open it in reader as the original #3 art too...
Whaaa? How is that possible if you had already hit save in Illustrator (which would have overwritten your original #3)?
If somehow you are seeing what you want in Reader, quickly do a 'Save a Copy.' The resulting PDF might not give you fully editable Illustrator objects, but it might let you salvage some of the work.

  • IPhoto '11 Edits are lost while thumbnails still shows the edited version

    Hi,
I'm using iPhoto '11 v9.4.3 ( Build 720.91) on Mac OS X v10.8.5 and have my iPhoto Library on a external HDD. One month back, I had moved to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 but then reverted back to Mountain Lion and iPhoto v9.4.3 ( with the help of iPhoto Library Manager v4.0.9 ) due to performance issues on my iMac. Ever since I have been having some inconsistencies in my iPhoto Library, specifically w.r.t. the edits.
iPhoto does seem to retain my edits after a while. Though the thumbnail view ( or browse mode ) shows the edited version of the file, however double-clicking the file opens up the original unmodified version ( in the edit or single photo view mode ).
    Browse Mode - below
Single Photo View Mode - below
For the first time, the problem seemed to get resolved for a while, if I do a Repair Permissions on the iPhoto Library ( by pressing Option + Command ). However, now even that has no effect. Even after reparing permissions, Everytime I use the "Repair Permissions" option, I see the iPhoto message "There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto Library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?". Also, The File ->Reveal in Finder menu shows that the "Modified File" option is greyed out.
I have tried the following so far ..
    1. Repair Permissions using iPhoto : Used to solve the issue earlier, but no effect now.
    2. Repair Library using iPhoto : No joy
    3. Manualy changed the permissions for the iPhoto Library & its contents using Terminal command ( sudo chmod -R 777 * ) : No joy
This had happened 2 weeks earlier too, and was only resolved by deleting the whole Event and re-importing the files as a new event and then editing the files which has stuck so far without any issues.
    Any suggestions ??
    Regards,
    RP.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • LR4.3 does not show previously imported CR2 files (5D mark III) by trial version

LR4.3 does not show previously imported CR2 files taken using 5D mark III by trial version.
When tried to synchronize the files not show when browsing, the import window comes up. All the Jpeg files, Raw files are seen in the window. None of them are highlighted nor selectable. LR is assuming that those files are already imported but if imported they are being shown for browsing or editing

Maybe you have set a Filter in LR. Press Ctrl-L once or twice to turn it off.
Maybe you don't have "All Photographs" selected in the Catalog Panel on the left.

  • Acrobat showing wrong file

I'm using OSX Mountain Lion with Acrobat Pro X (10.1.3) and when I double click on a PDF attachment in mail, Acrobat shows me the wrong file.  If I let PREVIEW open the attachment it is correct, or if I download the attachment and have Acrobat open it is correct.
Its almost like Acrobat has cached the attachment by name and as this matches a previous file name that is the version that is always shown.   Is there a "clear cache" setting or something to resolve this?

I agree. It would appear that you may be depending on the Acrobat URL recognition, rather than having entered the URL in the link tool.

When I have finished working on an image in Photoshop and I hit the "save" button, it goes instead to the "save as" screen. This never happened in previous Photoshop versions. When I get to Lightroom, I have a grey screen the says "File could not be found." I then have to go to "locate" to get the image. When I select the correct image, I get a message that it is not the same file name but I am eventually able to access the image. Needless to say this is having a negative impact on workflow!

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. I will try to check for other problems with the OneDrive troubleshooter though: Running the OneDrive troubleshooter - Windows Help

  • Acrobat Pro "save as" function in the file menu does not show the current directory of the file

I have installed CC but Acrobat Pro gives me headaches.
The "save as" function in the file menu does not show the current directory of the file but something I have worked on in the past.
It forces me to navigates through my hard disk for this very straightforward thing in normal conditions. I precise: Acrobat is the only software reacting like that.
    I use Windows7 professional 64bits.

I use what seems to be the latest version available on the Cloud:
To illustrate my point, I open a directory with explorer and double-click on the only PDF in there:
    So here it is, open:

    Very annoying...

  • When opening previous office version excel files it saves instead of opening

    Hi there,
Recently I installed Office 2013 and deinstalled the previous version Office XP ( aka Office 2002 ).
I tried to open some xlsm files but when I open it by double click on them it opens a "save as" screen... It is an XLSM file that is located on my desktop.
When I open first excel and then go to file --> open and open the file, it opens just fine.
I want to open it by double clicking it and not like this.
Word Documents don't have this issue and open just fine.
I also made sure that the extensions are connected to the appropriate application but it still doesn´t work.
It just shows a save as screen as stated earlier and doesn´t open the file in Excel.
Could anyone please inform me of what I am missing=
    Andre

    Hi Andre,
Only the XLSM file created in previous office version excel can't be opened or all of them can't be opened?
I think it should be a file association problem ,please refer to the thread below:

  • How do I restore previous versions of a file?

How do I restore previous versions of a file?
please I really need your help

If you've overwritten the previous version of the file, you're probably out of luck. Some applications, like MS Word, create a temporary copy of the file, but they usually delete it once changes are saved to the original file.
You can use version control software such as CVS, SubVersion or ClearCase to keep track of changes to files. You could also store previous versions with some kind of backup scheme, with such tools as Apple's Backup, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper or Retrospect.
OS 10.5 Leopard will include a sort of built-in versioning tool called Time Machine, as well as (reportedly) come with SubVersion pre-installed (OS X currently comes with RCS and CVS).
You might try data recovery software such as DataRescue to see if it has the ability to recover your file.

  • Delete partially copied movie file from iPhone. Shows grayed out in Videos on the iPhone but it doesn't show up in iTunes.

    Hello.
I have synced my iPhone 4S with iTunes and I got an error while copying one movie. Now this movie shows up grayed out in videos on the iPhone but NOT in iTunes. Hence, I cannot delete this partially copied movie from my iPhone. And since it is grayed out, the right-to-left swipe does not work. I have resynced with "no movies" option so that every movie would be deleted and indeed every movie was deleted except for the problematic one. I rebooted the iPhone several times in case it was a glitch. No success. I even tried tools like iExplorer and DiskAid but I cannot find this **** file. Is there any way to delete this partially copied file from the iPhone without having to restore it?
    Regards,
    HawkeyeQ

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

    Hope this helps!

  • How to delete previously deleted files off iphone PERMANENTLY from database

Someone I happen to know hacked my iPhone 4s. They took my iPhone when I left it out. They plugged it into their Macbook and used software I beleive called Wondershare Data Recovery, to raid my phone and go through confidential files I had previously deleted on my phone. They went through text messages, photos and files that were personally confidential to myself. They made it aware they did this because they personal told me they would continue "tracking" what I do on my phone because my files will be backed up onto their computer. I was also made aware that after I decided to put a password on my phone, the person told me "It doesnt matter if you put a password on the phone since my phone is now ENCRYPTED with the laptop".
My first question is how do I go about this situation. Is there a program i can use to fully erase all the "deleted" files i thought were deleted previously on my phone? Is there a data base i can PERMANENTLY delete my files from so they can never be acessed in a data base in the future?
How do I make sure i dont continue to get stalked by this "close friend" in the future?

If you have permanently deleted iPhone file thoroughly, No one can get you personal information and data from iPhone, after you sell, donate or give it away.
To permanently delete photo, video and other files on iPhone, you can use a iPhone data eraser, there are some iPhone data eraser software in the market, but few can be completely and permanently delete the data on iPhone, even if data has been cleared, some professional iPhone data recovery software can recover them later.
Please read this use guide about how to Permanently Erase iPhone Data Before Selling your iPhone. So
