Acrobat Standard vs Pro when using SDK

Hi,
I'm developing a prototype for a project using the Acrobat SDK. The client will have 13~ licenses for Acrobat standard and NOT Pro. For developing my prototype I downloaded the Acrobat trial which seems to only install the PRO edition and doesn't have the option to install the Standard Edition.
I need to know that the prototype and eventual product that will use the Acrobat SDK will work with the clients' Acrobat Standard installations and NOT require the client to upgrade to Pro.
My question is how can I know that the prototype and eventual product will require only Acrobat Standard and not Pro, since apparently I don't have access to an installation for the Standard edition but only the Pro edition? Is it the case that all the APIs are the same between Standard and Pro?
Thank you kindly,
Ben

Provided you don't use any APIs that are only in Pro and not in standard (and the number of those is VERY SMALL) - it will work just fine in Standard.   The documentation will tell you if a given API is Pro only.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro?

I am updating a project, that I did not original work on, that was developed using Acrobat 7.0 and Distiller 7.0. It added the ability to save report files in PDF format and to digitally sign them. Besides the files generated by the SDK there are other files that were generated and edited by Acrobat 7.0 and Distiller 7.0. Files ending in .js looks like I just need a text editor and .api is generated by the SDK. Then I have files templates BlankPageDoc.pdf, BlankPageDoc.ps, TempDoc.pdf that were generate by Distiller. Then I have another file with the extension .joboptions that I don't know how it was generated.
So do I need Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro to update this project for 8.0 and 9.0? I know I need Adobe Acrobat Standard to run it but will I need something in Pro for development?

Pro certainly includes various tools not found in Standard that you may find useful.

I am on a Windows 7 OS attempting to reduce pdf size with my Adobe Acrobat Standard XI & Pro.  The application keeps timing out and  at the Subsetting embedded fonts portion and the application gives "Adobe Acrobat has stopped working" and then closes.  The document is 275 pages.  Is there something I can do to stop this?

    Hi Ricci,
Since when are you facing this issue? Did you tried system restore to a date before this problem occured.
Does acrobat stop working when you open this specific pdf file or with any pdf file that you open?

  • Is it possible to install and run Acrobat Standard or Pro on a Surface Pro 2 tablet?

Does anyone know if is possible install and run Acrobat Standard or Professional on a Surface Pro 2?
and, if is possible to use COM automation to fill AcroForms?
    Thanks and regards,
    Adolfo

Does it run regular Windows 8 (allowing you to install the same apps as older versions of Windows in the desktop) or does it run Windows 8 RT, where only apps from the Windows Store are allowed? It looks like regular Windows 8, in which case you can try out the free trial of Acrobat Pro.
If it works, the Acrobat SDK (separate download) has all developer information on Acrobat, and you need it (give up any idea you will find code ready for use on Google...)

  • Disable or Hide Online Support menu option from: Reader, Acrobat Standard and Pro XI 11.0.2

    Hi,
I'm trying to make a custom installation for 3 applications: Adobe Reader XI 11.0.2, Acrobat Std. and Pro XI 11.0.2  and most of the options that I wanted to hide are done with the Customization Wizard but I can't hide Online Support. I didn't found yet any FeatureLockDown for this option so far. So our users can still use the Online Support options.
Notice that I tried to drop a script into: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\Javascripts   but when you 1st open the application it has a delay and somehow you still can access it. But if you try to open it again the menu is hidden.
    //HideMenu.js
    //Help - Online Support
    app.hideMenuItem("OnlineSupport");
But a FeatureLockDown on HKLM hive will be the best way to disable this option as users don't have access to this registry hive and some advanced users with more rights could be able to delete the .js file if they know where it is saved.
I will appreaciate your help to get this FeatureLockDown option if it exists or an alternative way.
Thanks as usual and Kind regards everyone.
    Derspinne.

  • Acrobat Standard 8 freezes when scanning

I have been using Standard Version 8 for 4 years, scanning and saving multipage documents, including graphics and text.  Now it freezes after sending 12 pages through the scanner and before getting the dialog to choose between adding more sheets and finish scanning.  I think it will scan a one page document, but I don't know where the cut-off is as far as page numbers, if that is the issue.  Now I must end the process or the process tree and I don't know if that will create further problems.
I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the program and have the same issue.

    Hi,
I'd like to clarify some points. You use a digital ID to create a digital signature, not unlike how you use a pen to create (what we refer to as) a wet ink signature. When it comes to applying a digital signature to a document, you can sign just about any blob of electronic data. You can sign your e-mail or a MS Word document as well as a PDF file. The signature itself lives either in the document (that's how Acrobat does it when signing a PDF file), or it can be an external attachment (that's what the smime.p7s file is you might see attached to some e-mail messages).
Here is where I'm a bit confused. How many digital IDs do you have access to? If you only have one, does it cause Acrobat to lock up when signing a specific PDF file or when you try to sign any PDF file? Same question if you have more than one digital ID available to sign with, they all cause Acrobat to lock you when signing just one specifc file or any file? When you try to sign, are you signing an existing signature field, or are you creating a signature on the fly, be it either visible or invisible? If it is just one file that is causing the problems then that file is probably corrupt. If it's any file then it is a more systemic problem and I don't have an off the shelf answer for you.

I contacted the folks who make RIATest, and they did their best to debug the problem. Their conclusion is:
"The stack trace that you posted shows that  ApplicationAutomationImpl/getAutomationChildren calls  ApplicationDomain/getDefinition on line 266 and the call fails with an  error. This most likely indicates a bug in ApplicationAutomationImpl."
This problem never occurred when we were compiling our code using SDK 3.4.1. What can I do to work around this and continue performing automated tests of our Flash applications?

  • Windows 8: Make PDFs open by default in Acrobat Standard or Pro instead of Reader

In a Windows 8 environment, how can you set set all PDFs to open in Acrobat Standard or Professional instead of Reader? I've tried right-clicking on a PDF in Windows Explorer, selecting Properties, then changing the default app from Reader to Professional. Although it seems to work (does not generate an error), PDFs continue to open in Reader. Surely there is a way to change this. I've spent about 15 minutes Googling this, but was surprised I could find no solution.

  • Adobe Reader 8 compatible with Acrobat Standard and Pro 7?

Our organization has Adobe Reader 7 deployed to all users. Some users also have Acrobat Standard 7 or Acrobat Pro 7. We want to upgrade all users to Adobe Reader 8 (or maybe 9) but do not want to upgrade Standard and Pro users yet.
I have not been able to find any information about compatibility issues with Reader 8 and older versions of Acrobat, but last time we did an upgrade in similar fashion we experienced issues. Any insight?

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled across something today after posting. I had already known that If the ARX user also had one of the other products (AAXS or AAXP), then they would get the dialog box. Here is what I just figured out: if the user uninstalled ARX and re-installed (still having both ARX and AAXS or AAXP in the end) then they no longer get the dialog box. It seems like perhaps its an issue the AAXP and AAXS are overwriting something in the registry.

  • Close the macbook pro when using external display

    Hi
I would like to know if is recomended to close the laptop when using an external display? i ask because i read somewhere that the system take ventilation through the keyboard? is better to work with the laptop always open? or doesn't matter if is closed?

    Third opinion...
I had a 2.16GHz 15" MacBook Pro that I used as a presentation machine at some trade shows in '07 and I once ran the machine with the lid closed, hooked up to an overhead projector looping a movie for 11 hours. When I finally shut it down for the night the machine was pretty warm (it was well ventilated) and was immediately usable. Out of curiosity the next day I ran it with a lid slightly cracked and the unit was significantly warmer at the completion of my day.
The only thing I could justify as the temperature difference is that the LCD was on and causing heat in addition to the video card. I guess I would have been curious to leave the lid slightly cracked and then manually set the backlight to off.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro - dialog prompt when opening PDF from Internet Explorer 9

    Good morning.
I am having an issue where our ends users that have either Adobe Acrobat X Standard (AAXS) or Adobe Acrobat X Pro (AAXP) cannot open a PDF within Internet Explorer 9 without being prompted by a dialog box to OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Our user that have Adobe Reader X (ARX) only are ok. The ARX users can click on a PDF link within the browser and it will automatically open in a new tab. However, the AAXS and AAXP users will click on that same link, but are then prompted with a dialog box to either OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Has any one else seen this before? We would like it to be so that all users - no matter what Adobe PDF program they are using of the 3 mentioned - can open a PDF link by just clicking on the link and no additional dialog options appear.
The ARX users have the same Internet settings within the Adobe preferences as the AAXS and AAXP users. The check box is checked to have PDFs open within the browser, which they do, but that dialog box always appears for AAXS and AAXP users. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

  • Saveable PDF Forms - Acrobat Standard or Pro?

We need to create PDF forms where users can fill them in and then save the completed forms (just simple forms, mainly text but also some checkboxes). I know this is a feature of Acrobat XI, but unless I'm just being blind I can't find anything that states explicitly that it is a feature of the Standard version, do we need the Pro version or will Standard do the job? I think it is in Standard but I want to check before we buy it then find we have to upgrade to Pro!
    Thanks in advance.
    Matthew

    Thank you for the reply.
When you say Reader-enable the form, do you mean to allow the user to use Reader to type onto the form and save the changes? I have found some things that imply that Standard can do this, but others that imply that we need Pro.
Just to clarify, we don't need digital signatures or anything like that. We have application forms for our products where the introducers who sell the product want to be able to complete the client's details, save the form and e-mail it to the client who then prints it off, signs it (we still need wet signatures unfortunately!) and returns it. From what I can tell the necessary feature was part of Acrobat X Standard but I want to be sure that it's part of XI Standard before we buy it.
    Many thanks
    Matthew
