Acrobat still can't duplex print?

This has been a problem for a long time, judging by the number and dates of the posts. Did Adobe ever contrive a patch for Acrobat 8 that enables it to actually print two-sided (duplex)? I know I've never been able to do it on a Brother 5250 DN, which is designed for duplex printing. Frankly, it seems pretty dumb that an app designed for packaging and sending large text-and-graphics files is incapable of printing on a duplex printer. And don't tell me "lose the attitude, dude"-judging by the number of posts, it's a statement of fact.

  • Can't Duplex print from Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 to Epson Artisan 800

I can not duplex Print from Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 to an Epson Artisan 800.
I an running it from a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.6.3
I called Epson support and they could not help me.
However they suggested that I try using Adobe Reader.
Well that works OK if I choose to print the document as an image, but I would prefer to just be able to work within Acrobat Pro.
Does anyone outthere have any settings within Acrobat Pro that would enable duplex printing?
    Thanks

  • Acrobat X: Lost default duplex print

When I upgraded, I lost the ability to duplex print by default and would like to know if I can restore it. I'm working on a mac and there is no duplex option in Acrobat's print command. My printer settings are set on duplex and it operates just fine in other programs. In Acrobat, I have to go into its printer settings via Properties to select duplex. I just want Acrobat to not override my printer settings and default to single-sided when I want 2-sided. Is there way to at least change the default print settings in Acrobat without having to change the Properties setting for each and every file? What an odd feature for Adobe to put into this software and I hope a fix is imminent if there is no simple solution in the current version. One expects an upgrade to be an improvement only in areas where it improves the workflow, not detracts from it, yes?

The changes in Acrobat & Reader 10.1.2 associated with printing were clearly a big problem. As far as we know,  no one actually lost the capability of controlling simplex versus duplex printing, but rather, a very ill-conceived mechanism was introduced that assumed that if your printer has duplex capabilities of any type, you would or should use them.
The plans of record are to provide a fix for this issue in the next quarterly update to Acrobat and Reader due next month. There will be a control for duplex in the print dialog, but it will only reflect what you have already set in the printer properties (either on Windows or Macintosh). The dialog will allow you to change that setting while in Acrobat, but it will not make assumptions as to what you could or should do vis-a-vis duplex printing. In this respect, it will be similar to print dialogs in applications such as Microsoft Office in terms of allowing access to duplex printing, but not forcing it.
However, there is something peculiar in your particular situation. Normally, with Acrobat & Reader 10.1.2, if the printer supports duplex as determined by the printer's PPD file (for PostScript devices) or from the driver otherwise, you would see a duplex control in the print dialog itself. The fact that your printer supports duplex (correct?) and that you aren't seeing the duplex control in the print dialog is a problem we aren't currently aware of. You are seeing the forcing of duplex without the ability to control it from the print dialog? Correct? I'll send the report of this to the appropriate group within Acrobat engineering.

    Hello Dov.
Thank you for your input. Can you confirm that these strange printing issues would also cause my PDF files to print in color and 1-sided even when the default in Control panel for my printer is 2-sided and B&W?

  • Can't duplex print B4 paper size with Snow Leopard and HP8100N

Apple print drivers dumped the standard European paper size B4 (see ISO 216 for specs) many OS's ago, however, I was able to duplex print B4, which is a standard size for the HP8100 trays, using the HP Duplexing accessory, by specifying a 'custom' paper size (10.14 x 14.33). Now, with Snow Leopard and the 10.6.4 and the updated HP8100 print driver from Apple, I get the message "The Duplex Option, Flip on Short Edge" is not available when the destination paper is set to Custom."
It seems the easiest solution would be for Apple to bring back the B4 paper size--I don't know why they eliminated it. The next solution would be for Apple or HP (whoever is responisble for the print driver) to back up to whatever allowed duplexing of custom sizes in all recent OS's up to Snow Leopard.
I have thousands of pages of music to print and manual duplexing just isn't an option. Anybody have any work-around ideas?

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro freezing on duplex printing

In adobe acrobat pro X when printing 2 or more pages duplexed on a Canon iR-adv c5045/5051 adobe acrobat freezes and crashes and the job never makes it to the printer, on adobe reader x free edition this is not hte case and prints without a problem. any information on this would be great. thanks

You mean there is an entry in the dock that doesn't work but it works OK from LaunchPad or Applications? Sounds as if you have an old or out of date thing in the dock. Just remove it and put the working Acrobat back. The dock is ENTIRELY under your control; Acrobat doesn't put itself there or remove itself.

  • Can't do duplex printing!

I'm in an office with four iMacs running OS X Leopard v10.5.8.
We're all using CS4 Acrobat 9 Pro v9.4.6 (which Check For Updates tells me is up-to-date).
We're printing to a networked Xerox Phaser 6180DN.
And we can't print anything in two-sided duplex from Acrobat Pro.
We can print in duplex from every other application on the iMacs (including other CS4 apps) without problem.
But I need to be able to print non-CS PDF files in duplex.
I've done Google searches and searches within Adobe Help.
I've found the File>Properties>Advanced>Duplex Flip Long Edge
    This doesn't make any difference.
Please don't tell me to upgrade to CS5 or Acrobat X Pro ... that's out of my hands.
Please do tell me how I can enable duplex printing from Acrobat 9 Pro!

Guys ... I've been using Macs and Adobe products since the late 80s.
I still have a copy of Illustrator 88 (the original one) sitting on a ZIP disc somewhere.
I do have a clue on using these applications.
That's why problems like this are so frustrating. It should simply work ... and it doesn't!
And Yes ... both are set to double sided printing and No it doesn't print doubled sided:
    1. File>Properties>Advanced>Duplex Mode is set to: Duplex Flip Long Edge
    2. In the Layout pane in the Print window, Two Sided is set to Long Edge Binding
And all the pages are printed one one side of the paper.
Further, we went the long way around and tried to print the catalog directly from the source InDesign file, which takes fricking forever.
Even more annoying was that some of the pages were printed double sided and some of the pages were printed single sided.
Now, I can pull up large documents in Microsoft Word 2008 Mac (which I HATE - I use Apple Pages at home) and just click Two Sided from Off to Long Edge Binding ... and I get a perfect (well almost) double sided print.
    Now what?????

  • Adobe Acrobat X Pro on Mac does not select duplex print by default

I have Adobe Acrobat X Pro 10.1.8 for Mac. When I print a document, Acrobat does not select duplex print (i.e. "Print on both sides") by default. While I can manually select duplex print, I don't understand why this isn't the default option here as in every other application. Just for reference, here is a screen shot of my default print screen:
I have played around with duplex printing in the advanced properties of PDF's. I have also played around with the DuplexMode property in the com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist file. Actually, there is no DuplexMode property in the file, but I tried making one, which didn't solve the problem. There is a printBookletDuplexMode property but that doesn't seem to make a different. In any case, nothing has worked.
There are some similar questions on the forums, but they are either slightly different or haven't been answered. Is this such a difficult issue?
    Thanks for any help,
    Jonathan
Message was edited by: jondaman21. Small clarification to what I've tried.

I agree with your statement; even for a particular document, if I choose to "Print on both sides" and then print again immediately after, "Print on both sides" will be deselected.
However, I'm not sure what you're implying by you're statement. I'm asking precisely why this setting isn't sticky. Acrobat uses a non-standard printer dialog; in the usual dialog I can easily set a defualt duplex setting. I almost always want to print duplex. Why can't I do this by default in Acrobat?

  • How to duplex print pdf file on hp 1320 using upd pcl5 on windows 7 ?

I am running Windows 7 Professional (64bit), with a HP laserjet 1320 using driver HP UPD PCL5 (v5.5.0.12834), with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro v9.5.2 and MS Word 2010. When I print a Word 2010 file I can choose duplex printing (print on both sides) and everything works fine. However, when I open a PDF file, click FILE then PRINT then PROPERTIES the PRINT ON BOTH SIDES option shows "none" and no other option is shown. I searched Adobe support and it says duplex printing is controlled by the printer driver, not Adobe software. I have uninstalled & reinstalled the UPD PCL 5 driver two times already but still the same problem of not being able to choose duplex printing for any PDF document - yet it works for MS Word. Any ideas ? Thanks

How do I duplex print on an HP 1320 printer that uses windows 7 (64 bit) system?

I have an all in one Lexmark X7550 printer. However under Leopard 10.5.4 I cannot get it to do duplex printing. I have checked all the options are correct for duplex printing in the print dialog box, yet it still does not do duplex printing. If I print a document from a Mac Mini running Tiger 10.4 to the same printer I can do duplex printing without a problem. I have downloaded the latest printer drivers from Lexmark's site. Anyone have any idea how to solve this issue? I connect to the printer wirelessly

Contact Lexmark's tech support. It's quite possible their driver does not work correctly in this version of OS X. You might try upgrading to 10.5.5. No guarantees.

  • Lexmark CS310n duplex printing

Hello.  I am having trouble duplex printing on my Lexmark CS310n which has a manual duplex function. On Windows 7 it works flawlessly but not on my Macbook air. I'm running the latest version of OSX (10.8.4).
I installed the Lexmark driver CS310Series_Print_1.0.0_10.6orLater_forIntel.dmg and I can now select the duplex option from the printer settings but it is ignored.
I then cheked for updates in the Apple app store and it installed Lexmark printer sotware update 2.11 but it still ignores the duplex printing option when I select it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Duplex printing with cups

    Hi,
We have a bunch of Macs all running 10.4.9 (Client) which are unable to print double-sided documents to our printer which is hosted by a redhat enterprise server (v4.4) box, cups version 1.2. The annoying thing is everybody else (windows, linux) can. The printers are set up as A4 paper size, the Macs see that and we see the duplex option in the print dialog box but the printouts come out single-sided with a blank sheet at the end. Another aspect is that when we add a printer using System prefs>Print & Fax etc the cups printer description is displayed as the printer name in the set up dialog on the Mac. Has anybody come across this before and, more importantly, does anybody know how to solve this problem?
    Cheers,
    Matt

Can you tell us which driver you are using on the Mac's. If it is the included GIMP-Print drivers, try the new Gutenprint 5.0.0 drivers.
Also, you may want to check the printer info in case you have to add the duplex option. And also try setting the Page Setup > 'Format for' in the application for the printer, rather than any printer, as this can impact duplex printing for some printers.
Re the printer description being displayed, I know that when you add a network printer the IP address or DNS name is shown as the printers name in the Printer List. You can select it and do a Get Info to rename it.

  • Duplex printing for smartform

    Hi,
Has anyone worked on Duplex printing for smartform? If yes, please tell me the procedure/steps that need to be taken for the same.
    Thanks
    Regards

    Hi,
You can select Duplex printing in th epage properties of a page (D = Duplex)
The printer STARTS duplex printing from that page. This means that the printer triggers a pagefeed on that exact moment and starts printing on a new page. So when you have 1 page that stretches over more that one sheet of paper this means trouble. after every page the flow of the program starts a new Duplex print (thus feeding the current sheet and starts at a new page) this results in a new sheet of paper every page. this is not what you want.
You can solve this by creating 2 pages and set their respective NEXT PAGE to each other. Page 1 you set to DUplex, pagae 2 you leave blank..
But notice that when you select duplex printing most (if not all) printers start printing on the backside of the paper. When you use pre-printed (logo) paper, you will find that it prints the front on the back etc.
This can sometimes be corrected (if needed) by sending prescribe commands to the printer directly.
    Good luck!
    Joris

Ralph, Thanks for replying. There where no received SIP messages at all just the INVITE being sent but I have made some more progress. The mini does indeed just work. I can do everything that you are supposed to do to other ichat users on the internet. Very nice.
The imac is still playing up but I have got further. I had peerguardian2 installed which unknown to me doesn't need to be running to prevent you for accessing 'barred' IP addresses. snatmap.mac.com is barred in the lists! I discovered this when I saw one of your other posts showed how to turn on terminal logging for ichat. Now that I have turned off peerguardian2 (using the disable filters option) I can make calls to the testbot and see the adverts. I have even done a video conference with the two testbots. I will just uninstall peerguardian2.
However, I can not get a AV chat working to a real user....
    In response to your suggestions:-
I have tried all the options for quicktime streaming but will try 1.5Mb/s again.
The ichat bandwidth limit is set to "none". I am in New Zealand and I have standard ADSL (not ADSL2+) 7.6M down 512K up. The mini config is also set to none.
    Internet sharing is off.
I have had parallels on the machine but the two interfaces that it installed "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" are configured 'off' and show as not connected. Is this enough? I will uninstall parallels and see if that helps since I don't use it. I also have VMware's thing installed but that doesn't seem to add any interfaces.
I need to capture a full trace of the imac to other ichat user to see what is happening but will update when I have does your suggested changes or have a trace
    Thanks again

  • Still can't print

    Hi Folks,
I'm having problems printing and creating in Acrobat, per the conversation from another thread that I've pasted below.  I pasted it here because that thread seems to have given out.  The fellow with whom I was corresponding gave me some pretty good ideas and I tried them.  But they didn't pan out.
Can anyone save me on this?
    Thanks,
    CS
    Hi There,
I was having some problems with Acrobat and with other CS3 components, too, so I just ran the CS5 Cleaner Tool and reinstalled CS3.  As far as I can tell, the only problems I have now are with Acrobat 8 Professional.
    - It appears that I'm able to Save As any file as a PDF
    - I can't Create a PDF, either by opening of dragging a file into Acrobat Professional.   The error message says either the "file type is not supported" or "the file is corrupt".  Word is supported and my files are new.  Then I get another box that says "Missing PDFMaker files.  Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?"  If I run that, nothing happens.
    - I can't print a PDF.  The error here is "Error - Printing" or "Error - Sent to Printer" in the print dialogue box.
Any ideas?  I'm a bit stuck.
    Thanks,
    CS

    Re: Create - No Go
You gave no indication of the OS or the WORD versions. AA8 has problems with Win 7 and also OFFICE 2010. If you have not updated, you might update AA8 and something like AA8.3.4 or so (did not check lately).
As far as printing, the most basic process of all the PDF creation processes with AA8 are to print to the Adobe PDF printer with print to file selected. Then open that file in Distiller to complete the process. If that works, you can then at least create PDFs. The next step is to check for AcroTray running in the background (ctrl-alt-del > tasks and you should see AcroTray running in the background. You might try killing it and restarting (from the Distiller folder).
PDF Maker requires WORD to be activated for the PDF Maker macro. If you have the PDF maker menu in WORD, then opening in Acrobat should also work. The latter simply uses the macro in WORD.

    Hi Bill,
I'm running Windows Vista and, I believe, Office 2007.  Sorry about the omission.
I'll try your print-to-file trick and see what happens.
I'll also try what you suggest about the Acrotray, too.
There's no PDF Maker menu in Word, though I can select PDF as a printer.  How do I activate Word in this case?

    Hi Bill,
I can create PDFs by Saving As to PDF and then printing, but I still can't Print of Create.  It's a bit of a pain when working with AI.
I tried your idea of printing to file and then opening Distiller to complete the process.  I couldn't print to file without an error, so I couldn't even get to Distiller.  Or maybe I don't quite understand what you're saying here.
I killed the AcroTray, got it going again, and that didn't make any difference.
There's no PDF Maker Menu in Word or Excel.
    Any ideas?  I'm stuck.

Well, I found the solution, although it was a trial and error thingy. I have my HP Deskjet 5400 running an apple driver in windows XP. My Brother HL-5140 worked with the proper drivers in XP but I had to reinstall the drivers setup utility in the mac for the HL-5140.
I don't see any patterns except that it is having software conflicts.
