Acrobat Update 8.1.3 won't install

Hi, I don't know if there's already a topic about this, didn't see one. I'm running CS3 Design Premium on an Intel based iMac. When Adobe Updater tries to install the Acrobat 8.1.3 patch, I get this message:
"Update failed. The patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed."
Does anyone know what this means and/or how to fix it? I'd rather avoid having to re-install Acrobat if possible.
Thanks.

O.K. -- I had a spyware infection that has been cleaned up. I am pretty sure I got it from a bogus Adobe Acrobat Update thatshows up on my screen every time I start my laptop up. I read on the Adob e site and elsewhere that Adobe is aware of the security vulnerability and is working on fixes. My version of acrobat is 8.1.3. I do not know if the patch I downloaded has the new fix in it. If it does, then there must be a remant of the spyware preventing installation of the patch. When I try to install the patch after logging in as Administrator, it starts installing but then abruptly stops and gives me a message from Windows Installer to the effect that:
"Windows installer cannot complete the installation because it cannot find any version of Adobe Acrobat software on your machine or you may be trying to intall an update that is an incorrect version for your software."
However, I have just freshly installed Adobe Acrobat 8.1.3 from the original CD and it's working fine. I am logged in as Administrator. The patch I downloaded from Adobe and was trying to install is definitely the right one for 8.1.3. I can make PDFs juast fine "as is" but am wanting to shore up any vulnerabilities to spyware, etc. with the patch.
Any ideas? My plarform is Windows XP 2000 on a Sony Vaio laptop.
THANKS!!

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.1.1 Won't Install Updates

Adobe Updater shows that the following update is available:
    Adobe Acrobat 9.2.0 (CPSID_5026)
When I select the update and click install, it downloads the the update, but as soon as it finishes downloading and starts the installation process, I get the following pop-up box:
"The installation process has incountered a problem.  Please choose from the following option."  My choices are "Run this update again", "Stop installing and continue later", or Cancel this update and quit".
My only real option is to cancel the update and quit.
I tried downloading the updates directly from the website in addition to downloading them from the help menu in Adobe.
Not sure if it has any relevance, but I'm currently running Windows XP Version 5.1 with Service Pack 3.
Can anyone offer some assistance to get the updates installed?

My personal experience with Acrobat updates is that they MUST be installed in numerical order. I checked the Adobe updates for Acrobat 9. There are two updates (9.1.2 and 9.1.3) that you need to download and update Acrobat before downloading and installing 9.2.0.
The update feature from inside Acrobat only seems to work if Acrobat is updated with the most recent predecessor update. A very clumsy way to do it indeed!
    Good luck.

When I try to update my copy of Adobe Reader, I get
Error 1923: Adobe Acrobat Update Service (AdobeARMService) could not be installed.
Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services.
This occurs even when I run the install program with "Run as Administrator".
And it occurs for release 11 and the older release 10.
How do I get around this problem?

  • Adobe Acrobat: updates beyond 6.02 don't install

At some point Adobe Acrobat 6.02 Professional started taking 5 minutes to start. Maybe this was when I updated to Tiger, I'm not sure. It sits there and queries the Adobe website for updates, then tells me it's updated and I have to restart the computer. This is every time I open Acrobat, and it's always 6.02 (it never updates). I've downloaded the 6.03 and 6.04 Acrobat Professional updates from the Adobe website but they won't install, saying they can't find a qualifying version of Acrobat Reader. Yes, the Professional update thinks it's a Reader update. Reader 7.07 won't install, the installer queries the Adobe website which never responds. Is anyone else having these problems? I hate to buy a new copy of Acrobat, it's expensive and 6.02 does everything I need (after it opens!)
    G5 dual 1.8GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Have you tried reinstalling Acrobat Professional 6.0.2?
    No.
    Have you tried repairing permissions?
I run DisUtility and DiskWarrior regularly, they repair permissions.
Have you tried to use Preview to read documents that Acrobat Professional
    won't read?
Acrobat Professional reads everything, Preview works good too. What doesn't work is using Safari for PDFs, or, specifically, the "bigger" button doesn't work so the pages are usually too small to read. I have Preview set as the default application for PDFs. Is there some way to tell Safari not to open PDFs but instead use the default application? I don't see anything in the Safari Preferences to do that.
When you are running the 6.0.3 updater are you just selecting the Acrobat
Professional Folder or the actual Application itself.
I selected the Acrobat 6.02 Professional application.
I see what the problem is. On the Adobe website when you click to download the Acrobat Professional 6.03 updater it instead downloads the Acrobat Reader 6.03 updater. I'll e-mail Adobe about that. Without the 6.03 update I can't update to 6.04.
I still don't see what the problem is installing the 7.07 Reader. I've tried half a dozen times.

  • I get notice of Acrobat updates but when it tries to install, it rolls back and say "Installation Failed" Error

The error # I'm getting is 1603. Anyone experience this. I have a windows 7 system.

Shut down Microsoft Office and all web browsers. Then, in Acrobat or Reader, choose Help > Check for Updates.

I have a Mac OSX 10.6 notebook; when I try to install the Java update - it downloads just fine but then just says there is an error and won't install. I have not had any problems before with updates.

Do you think I should pay to get help from Support to get this update installed?
Ummm...no. Download and install the updates manually: http://support.apple.com/downloads/

  • How do I find out if other firefox copies are running? The software update keeps saying it won't install because I need to check if other copies are running.

The update popped up, I clicked to install and it keeps popping up when I open Firefox that it cannot install because I need to check and see if other firefox copies are running. I do not know how to do that and why wouldn't firefox be able to tell if other copies are running and tell me how to delete them if that is what is necessary

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Update 10.5.2 Won't Install

In Leopard Server, I'm trying to update to 10.5.2. However, the software update window states that it is installing 1 item and that it is "Configuring Installation". Then it sits there.
For hours if I let it.
I've tried (I think) 4 times to install it with no luck and can't seem to get it to go. Has anyone here had this same issue and been able to resolve it?
Should I just say "Screw it" and wait for 10.5.3?
    Thanks in advance...

    From a google search:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?referrerid=59552&t=448436
3 separate possible fixes. I'm yet to try any (I'm not terribly fond of re-installing 10.5.2, as my Dad has almost 0 free space on his computer).
I'll post if I find one works, I hope you will do the same.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro disappeared and won't install

I have a new computer running Win7, Processor is a quad7 and has 8gigs Ram. I have no desktop icon for Acrobat 9 Pro and no link to the program under programs yet when I try to reinstall using the disk, it tells me there is a functional copy of Acrobat installed and the installer terminates. Acrobat is not listed under the uninstall programs list in the control panel and there is no Reader installed on the computer. Very frustrating. Does anyone know how to get the durn thing to reinstall? I shoould add that I have a desktop icon for AdobeSupportAdvisor but that doesn't work either, just flashes a DOS window and disappears. Abby

Have you checked to see if it is in the repair (programs) listing, or is this the uninstall you are talking about?

  • Premiere Elements 8 update 8.0.1 won't install

I can't get Premiere Elements 8 update 8.0.1 to install.  It claims I need to close "elements 8.exe.". first, but as far as I can see, it isn't open.
ALSO I can't get the Adobe techs to answer the phones even though I must have let it ring 50 times on two occassions this afternoon.
    May 24, 2010.

I had just gotten the Premiere Elements 8 last week from the Adobe website and had been able to download it and install it successfully....then, when I saw that a critical update was available, I downloaded it, too, but it wouldn't install, and you know the rest.
It's possible that after the initial download of the program, I hadn't properly cleared everything. But, we'll see now how the program works for me.
    Thanks again.

  • Updates for Illustrator CS5 won't install

Hi. I'm using Illustrator CS5 and I found a problem (a secondary problem here) with exporting PNG files (some weird white or black lines appear in the output), so I searched and learned that updating might help. I tried at first by going to Help > Updates... but it failed; then I downloaded the update manually and run it, but it failed too, with the error code U44M2P7.
    I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
    Thanks in advance!

Also this is true for any of my / the kids apple products such as the ipod 2nd Gen Touch.

  • 24" iMac won't install any 'large' Apple software updates from the internet

I am having a serious issue with my iMac and neither the people on the phone at Apple Care or the 'Geniuses' at the Genius Bar have been able to assist. So, maybe someone here can:
First - here is the background information about what happened and what I've done:
A few weeks ago when the new iTunes 10 came out I went to upgrade. The upgrade failed it said. So, I thought perhaps Apple was having issues with the new software or something. So, I thought - Ok, I'll give it a day or two.
I come back and try again from Apple.com - no luck. Hmmmm - well, I just happened to see my 'software update' icon pop up and there was iTunes. I thought "Great! Now I'm sure it'll install!" No luck.
So, I think - well, perhaps I've done something to corrupt my profile. So, I create a new profile and try again. No dice.
So now I'm really confused and figure - ok, let me try a partition and I'll try again. Still nothing.
Finally I figure - ok, something is wrong here. So, since nothing is working I backup my music and important files and wipe out the hard drive and start over. No luck. And, in fact - since I had gone back to 10.5.4 or whatever - software updates needed to install to get me back to 10.5.5. Those wouldn't install through software updates OR when downloaded from Apple.com - Smaller downloads like, flash, java, firefox, etc - all download and install without issue.
I decided to engage "Apple Care" and they call me at the time I specified and we begin to do some tests on the hardware and everything came back ok. We tried from Apple.com and software updates again - still won't install the software. Keeps coming back with "Software installation failed" something about the package installer was corrupted during downloading.
The guy at Apple care thinks perhaps its my network corrupting something. This begins to make a little sense and I think, maybe he's right. My wireless router isn't that great so, maybe I'll just go replace it. However, while I'm checking out I begin to think that maybe its NOT my wireless router - because I do have 2 other computers in my house who haven't had issues downloading anything. So, this is unlikely. But, I didn't like the wireless router anyway - so I went ahead with the purchase.
I get it home - set it up and try again. STILL not working. So, I make an Appointment at the "Genius Bar". I take it in - show them the screen shots of the errors and we get started. They try to do the install of either iTunes or the combo update on THEIR network - still won't work. The genius thinks I have a bad HD and takes the computer for 2 days to look at it.
I finally get to go pick it up - excited that I'll have my iMac (which I use for work) back and functioning again. I go pick it up and they decided that it wasn't my hard drive - but likely my RAM. They couldn't prove it was the RAM but figured since I bought the RAM after I bought the iMac that this must be the issue (even though it was up to exact Apple standards and was from Crucial). So, I think - well, while I have a blank slate I'll go ahead and install Snow Leopard. So, I pick up Snow Leopard and get new RAM too and go home to install.
I get the computer home, put the new RAM in, install snow leopard and get ready to work! After snow leopard install is done - it has some new updates it needs to install. And the update FAILS to install again. Oh, and they never replaced the HD.
So, I call Apple Care again - they have no clue. They suggest making an Apple Genius Bar appointment. So, I take it in again. They run diagnostics on it from their 'Triage' external hard drive and everything checks out. He says its probably the hard drive (same conclusion they came to the first time) and said that they would replace it.
I get the computer back - take it home. Everything is up to date. All the software updates were back in place including iTunes 10. However, I still want to test and see if I can download iTunes and/or do updates. So, I uninstall iTunes and download it again. Same problem. STILL won't install any large software downloads. But, again - Smaller downloads like, flash, java, firefox, etc - all download and install without issue. Just no core Apple updates or things like iTunes will download and install on my iMac.
I then took it to a friends house - set it up on his network - same issue.
    So to sum up:
I have re-imaged the hard drive several times
    I have replaced the ram
I have replaced my networking hardware (even though other machines on the network have no issues)
I have taken it in twice to the Genius Bar and they still haven't fixed it
The Problem followed the machine and exhibited the same issues in store as it did in my home (so we know the problems stays with the machine)
I have tried it on yet a 3rd network and the issue still exists
The people at the Genius Bar told me that If I still have issues then its with my network - even though its been proven it wasn't.
Its only larger downloads like Combo Updates and iTunes that won't install.
Any ideas? Sorry for the long post but its been quite an ordeal.

Yes, I have tried the updates directly from the Apple website and a different issue occurs. When I do that I get various different errors - the most common saying 'Codec overrun'. This has happened both before and after complete software OS reinstalls (Completely wiping the HD clean).
I did a video of my issue on my iPhone. I had to cut it and compress it to get it off my phone without syncing (because I can't sync it since I can't get iTunes installed now). So, its about a minute long if anyone wants to see it:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8leWwEoIeXI
And yes, we tried to repair permissions a couple times but didn't seem to have any effect on whether it would install these updates. Again, it's NOT all software downloads/installs. It seems to be limited to LARGER pieces of software. Example: Firefox, Flash, Java and Silverlight have all downloaded and installed without error on my iMac. Apple combo updates and iTunes won't install at all.
