Acrobat Versions and PDF Standards

I need a mapping of which versions of Adobe Acrobat correspond to which versions of the PDF specification. I need this to assist  our customer's standards registry/product registry correlation. I do not need anything older that Acrobat 6.FYI, the current PDF standard is Version 1.7.
Thanks

FYI - From WikiPedia:
(1993) – PDF 1.0 / Acrobat 1.0
(1994) – PDF 1.1 / Acrobat 2.0
(1996) – PDF 1.2 / Acrobat 3.0
(1999) – PDF 1.3 / Acrobat 4.0
(2001) – PDF 1.4 / Acrobat 5.0
(2003) – PDF 1.5 / Acrobat 6.0
(2005) – PDF 1.6 / Acrobat 7.0
(2006) – PDF 1.7 / Acrobat 8.0
(2008) – PDF 1.7, Adobe Extension Level 3 / Acrobat 9.0 (The one for the ISO 32000 standard conformance)

    Hi Bruno ,
Could you please verify the Acrobat version you are using is the latest Acrobat DC or some older version ?
Does this happen with any particular PDF file or all the documents ?
If you haven' tried repairing your Acrobat ,please try the same and see if that helps .
For repairing Acrobat Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help> Repair Acrobat Installation .
If that does not work you could probably uninstall the software and try downloading it again and see if that fixes the issue .
Let us know how it goes .

  • Acrobat versions and form

Is there a way to keep a form from opening in an acrobat version lower than 8.x.  When opening the form in a lower version, Acrobat offers to upgrade. But if you  don't, it will still open, but some of the form doesn't work or display correctly.  I would rather it not open at all.

    Hi,
You can use xfa.host.version property to define version of Reader and write if condition to prevent form opening.

  • VB6 - Confusion regarding Acrobat Version and supported methods

I've got an app, created in VB6, that uses the javascript method "addWatermarkFromFile".  It works fine on my machine(s) with Acrobat 7 and 9.0.  One of the machines that it has been installed on gets an "Object doesn't support this property or method" error.  The machine has had several version of Acrobat on it in the past, but is now running 9.4.1.  I added a chunk of code to create the AcroExch app and Show it, and the user reports that it launches Acrobat 9.4.1, so I know it's creating an app that should support "addWatermarkFromFile".  Is there anything else I can check?  I don't know much about the OLE mechanisms.  Could a stray acrobat.tlb file cause something like that?

After further review the problem was NOT related to addWatermarkFromFile, but rather was caused when the app called a javascript function that was implemented by the placement of a .js file in the Javascripts directory.  The user is now, inconveniently, on vacation, but I'm guessing either the script is not being created (unlikely) or that Javascript (or some portion of the javascript functionality) is disabled.

  • Flash Creative Suite CS3 : Professional version and/or Standard

    Please advice.
I am looking at scanning results from MANY PCs (mostly from "Add/remove programs") and I can see that  there are 2 different types of applications regarding "Adobe Flash Creative Suite 3":
Ones that are just called this and some that are called Adobe Flash Creative Suite 3 Professional.
I cannot seem to find a standard edition mentioned anywhere of Adobe Flash Creative Suite 3.
    So, my question is now:
Is there one or two versions? (standard and prof.)
    or
Is there absolutely no standard version, so that I must conclude that applications called Adobe Flash Creative Suite 3, must be exactly the same as Adobe Flash Creative Suite 3 (CS3) - Professional?
    Please advise!
(AND .. does anybody have the exact release date (day, month and year))

You should probably try contacting someone at Adobe rather than posting here if you need exact information.  Being user to user forums, folks here are likely to have the same access to information as you.  Here's a link that provides a listing of the various Flash releases...

I am having trouble opening a group or package of several pdf files on my IPAD  I have downloaded an app that allows me to open a single pdf file, but there are limitations for other files.  any suggestions?

I have GoodReader installed and I cannot get it to open a PDF package.  I just get a splash screen that tells me that I need to update to Adobe Reader 9 to view the files properly.  This is the first thing that I have thrown at GoodReader that it can't handle.  GoodReader is well worth the $.

  • Render PDF component - PDF and Acrobat version

We are using the Render PDF component in Workbench to generate a PDF. We require the PDF to be compatible with Acrobat version 6 and higher. When we set the PDF version in the Render PDF input properties, or set a value less than 7.0.5 for Acrobat version, the PDF does not get generated. Is the Render PDF component not capable of generating PDF compatible with Acrobat versions lesser than 7.0.5?
    Thanks.

The target version in Form Properties->Defaults is set to Acrobat or Adobe Reader 6.0.2 or later.

  • Difference between IE and acrobat in opening PDF

Hi, I have adobe acrobat 9 pro and if I open a PDF using acrobat, I have a bunch of toolbar functions like redaction, advanced editing and so on. However, if I open it using IE, which also uses acrobat, its toolbar provides limited functions. I only installed adobe acrobat version, and I uninstalled the acrobat reader 8.
Is it because that acrobat 9 provides the reader functions in IE acrobat activeX?
If so, is there any way to activate the functions in IE activeX?

    Hi,
I have similar kind of situation and facing problem.
We have developed custom plugins which resides under Adobe/Acrobat/Plug_ins/<Directory>/MyPlugin.API. We have used Acrobat SDK to create this custom plug_in.
We have developed PDF viewer (using Acrobat SDK) which loads this plug_in and opens PDF file and this PDF Viewer we are using in our web site inside internet explorer.
We have web application which displays list of name of PDF documents like 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, 4.pdf.
Step (1) When user opens 1.pdf it will open PDF using our PDF viewer and custom plug in and working fine.
Step (2) Now if user opens another PDF (xyz.pdf) in other tab of internet explorer or in a different instance of a Internet Explorer it opens PDF but using IE PDF viewer ActiveX provided by Adobe under  Program Files/Common Files/Acdobe/Acrobat/ActiveX/AcroPDF.dll.
Step (3) Now if user goes back to our web site and opens another pdf like 3.pdf our custom plug in in stop working. It's like it has never been loaded.
This only happens if user perform Step (2) using IE. If user does not do Step (2) or open PDF out side of Internet explorer using Adobe Acrobat it will not create any problem because out side of IE it will open PDF using Acrobat Standard.
    My question is ,
Is Acrobat PDF viewer ActiveX for IE is doing something which is causing this issue? I came to this conclusion because this only happens when user does step (2).
    Thanks,
    twinkle

  • Acrobat Javascript and older versions of Reader

    Hi,
I have created a basic Acrobat Javascript for my PDFs which reside at the document level.
What i want to know is, how backwards compatible is Acrobat Javascript? Will it work in older versions of Adobe Reader?
I have not managed to find much on this so any info would be appreciated.  I just need to make sure the script runs to all my users regardless of what version of reader they are using.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

In addition to George's statement, you might also check the JavaScript version a specific Acrobat version supports; there have been a few useful changes in Core JavaScript 1.7 and 1.8 (in the Array object), which may prevent your script running properly in Acrobat 7 (and older).
On the other hand, with the exception of "security" annoyances, old code (developed in Acrobat 4 or so) usually still works in Acrobat 10. This means, that you can program for a specific Acrobat version, and it should be fine with several newer versions as well. If not sure, check the documentation (mentioned by George) and try it out.

  • Cannot Copy and Paste in Adobe Acrobat Version 9 Standard

I just bought a new computer and with it I purchased Adobe Acrobat Version 9 Standard.  In the past I used previous version of Acrobat standard and professional to create drawings and to copy and paste my engineering seal on my structural calculations.  I am having (2) problems.  The first is when I try to copy and paste my seal from a PDF file, it does not work in Version 9.  I use the snap shot tool.  Please try the attached file using Version 9.  It works in Version 8 Standard and Version 7 professional.
The second is when I try to printing from AutoDesk products.  I had the problem of when I would print a PDF from AutoCAD it would sooo big.  To work around that, I started using Autodesk Reviewer and creating my PDFs from an Autodesk DWF file.  WIth Version 9, I now having the file size problem with the DWF files.  It is about 5 times larger than the DWF and the qualtiy is terrible.  I was able to create a PDF from a DWF from Version 7 and 8 without these problems.

It has been a part of Acrobat for a while now but DWF was added in Acrobat 8, I believe. As far as older versions are concerned, the version of AutoCAD you have matters. See: http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/2008/12/version_compatibility_of_acrob.html. In addition, AutoCAD 2009 is supported in Acrobat 9.1.
I would recommend downloading a trial copy of Acrobat and see if it meets your requirements.

Can provide more information if needed...

    Hello nmohamm,
To examine the conversion settings in Acrobat, do the following:
    1. Select Edit > Preferences
    2. In the preferences dialog, select the "Convert From PDF" category.
    3. In the "Converting From PDF" list, select "Excel workbook".
    4. Click the "Edit Settings" button to view your conversion settings.

  • Differences Between Acrobat XI Standard and Acrobat XI Pro PDF File Reduction Capabilities

Hi all, I am looking into purchasing Acrobat XI but not sure which version I should get. I have worked with Acrobat 8 Standard and remembered that I cannot reduce PDF size by clicking Reduce File Size under Document if the PDF contains images so I am looking to upgrade. I have tried Acrobat XI Pro Trial version and messed around with Save As Other >> Reduced File PDF to reduce my PDF files and that seemed to work well. I've read that in Acrobat XI Standard, one can reduce PDF files by using Save As >> Reduce File and the resulting PDF file will be similar in size to the PDF file that had been reduced by the PRO version. Can someone please confirm this, thanks in advance.

    Hi sraja,
Yes, that option is available in both the Acrobat Pro and Standard versions, and the results will be similar, if not the same. Acrobat Pro offers additional optimizing capability, as described here: Acrobat Help | Optimizing PDFs.
    I hope that helps!
    Best,
    Sara

  • I need to configure Acrobat to display PDF files in Safari, but I have a lot of troubles to do it.I have OX S yosemite, I unistalled adobe acrobat, I closed safary and I installed the new version of adobe acrobat.

    Dear everyone
I need to configure Acrobat to display PDF files in Safari, but I have a lot of troubles to do it.
I read a european commission document explaining that
    http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/support/sep_usermanual.pdf
If Safari does not display pdf forms in the browser window, uninstall all older versions of Adobe Reader and download the most recent one. First close Safari and then install Reader. Launch Safari and you ought to be able to open the pdf files inside the Safari window. If you install Adobe Reader 10.1.x without first closing Safari, Safari will not display the pdf file inside its browser window until it is re-launched. For further help, please see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-safari-plug-acrobat-x.html
I have OX S yosemite, I unistalled adobe acrobat, I closed safary and I installed the new version of adobe acrobat
but when I open a web page that I need to allow me to display and modify PDF files it is not working.
I checked the following web page
    Troubleshoot Safari plug-in | Acrobat X, Reader X
    that is recommending the following:
The AdobePDFViewer plug-in is used to display PDF files in Safari using Acrobat and Reader.
This plug-in is installed as part of the Acrobat X or Reader X installation. The location of this plug-in is:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
but after the new installation with this folder is completely empty and I am still
    unable to open these pdf.
Does anybody knows anything else I can do?
    Best regards
    Ramon
