Acrobat won't open w/o launching another program?

I want to combine multiple files into a single PDF document. I open acrobat, and when I select the
"Combine multiple files" option it tells me I cannot launch Acrobat unless I launch a component program, like Photoshop, first.
however Photoshop is already running, so I don't know what it's talking about.
is there a way to do this through Photoshop or something?

This issue should be related to licensing. When using the CS Suite one of the other programs must be activated before using Acrobat. Assuming you have perhaps something is awry with the licensing function. You might try this:

Pages question: recent update OS10.5 to 10.6 to Lion. Using Pages (4.1) only some documents intermittently
won't open. At Genius bar loaded new copy Pages; reloaded Lion clean install. Still won't open although will on another computer. On the other Mac (running Lion), saved a copy of a document with a new name and sent it back to first computer. At first it would open, but now it as well as multiple other Pages documents won't open. What now?

    yes;
I got Pages to work now- there were two versions, one Universal, and one Intel- by moving the Universal to trash ( although I can't delete it) and moving Intel version to iWorks folder in Applications, it is now working. Doesn't explain why it didn't work though- the other MacBook pro 17 inch that could open all the Pages documents also has two copies of Pages as I see now....
I still however can't open Numbers documents on the MacBook pro 15 inch.... it is a Universal version of Numbers.

    the program won't open.  help

    Hi Rahul,
Yes, thanks for responding.  The program just wouldn't launch; it's been like this for a long time and I don't remember when it started.  I just located the fix though.  Here it is:

This totally took care of it.

  • Acrobat won't open PDF made in ID CS5

    Hi There,
I recently upgraded to CS5 and am having trouble opening PDFs I make using the Export command in InDesign. It makes the PDF, but then Acrobat gives me the following error when I dbl clk the file to open it:
Acrobat could not open '2010 Supplement.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF.
This error message seems off the mark, as obviously it was not sent to me by email and was created out of the source application already.
Oddly, when I right click the PDF icon and use the Open With command, the file opens.

This is the same thing that is happening to me.
I spent a little while reading the other thread on this forum about PDF's not exporting from CS5 properly. It either enters an endless loop of background tasks or it never finishes and people end up having to force quit.
Mine is having issues but when I export a PDF, it actually creates the PDF icon but when I try to open it I get an error message telling me the file has been damaged or something. This is only happening to me with larger files, particular 20+ page files. It doesn't matter how long I wait to try to open the PDF, it just won't open.
I tried one suggestion from someone on the other thread that recommended you export from Adobe PDF presets, and create a new preset instead of using any existing ones, but that did not work either. I am working with a vendor that is requesting a PDF to print from instead of a packaged inDesign file and I cannot for the life of me get this file to save as a PDF. Even when I hold my mouse over the PDF icon that it creates, it reads "0 bytes" as the file size, even if I wait like half a day before trying to open it. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

  • Adobe Acrobat won't open anymore.  It says it's "incompatible"

I have been trying to open Adobe Acrobat, but it won't open.  I've tried updating.  It still won't open and I'm not sure it ever really worked properly, but for some odd reason, it did open once today, then stopped working completely no matter what I do.  I've tried updating it.  I've tried disabling Symantec Endpoint Protection.  Help, please?

  • Acrobat won't open from my CS5 install

    All,
I have searched here, in the Acrobat forum, too, and the Acrobat people all threw up their hands and pointed me back here.
I have Photoshop CS5 Extended and CS4. Acrobat Pro comes with CS4. For some time I have not been able to open a PDF when the CS4 or PS software is not running. I get an onj-screen message: "Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To open a document you must be running another program of the software." (I haven't got that second sentence quite right.) I believe this isn't the intention of Adobe when they included the Acrobat software.
I have downloaded the free Reader, too.
Any suggestions for making this work?

You are misunderstanding and indeed get it wrong. It tells you that you need to run another program from the suite to serialize Acrobat. However, that never happens in your case because the activation doesn't stick. This could be anything from permission issues to problems with your harddrive (using an SSD by any chance?). Definitely make sure to run as admin at least once to properly activate and also check your permissions or security tools liek virus scanners that may interfere.

  • Acrobat won't open in Windows 7

I downloaded Adobe CS6 on April 12, 2013. It worked fine for a few weeks, but now Acrobat will not open. (I had to change all my pdf files so that they open with Reader instead of Acrobat, which had been the default.) Additionally, I am no longer able to convert other file types to pdf. When I right-click and select "convert to adobe pdf," nothing happens.
I have Windows 7. I suspect that the problems with Acrobat were caused by some recent update, but I don't know for sure. Does anyone have any insights?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
The problem is that Acrobat does not open, period. When I double-click, or right-click and select "Open," my computer briefly looks like it's working, but then stops after about 2 seconds, and nothing else happens. So I can't access the File menu or the Help menu.
I have Acrobat version 10.1.7.27 and am running a 64-bit system.
Any other thoughts about what could be the problem? Has anyone else encountered this?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Firefox won't open external links (from other programs), says its already running but not responding.

I'm having this problem, everytime i click a link on other program, like the program's link on the about tab, or a youtube link on Live Messenger, it won't open, a dialog pops up saying firefox is already running and not responding, but it is there, and working.
If it matters, i have the "beta" tab preview enabled on the windows 7 toolbar.

    You're welcome

  • Last file re-opens when I launch a program

Just upgraded to Lion. Every time I launch a program (Word or Illustrator, for example), it opens the last document I worked on in my previous session. This is very annoying. Sometimes I don't want a co-worker or client to see the last thing I had open in Word or Illustrator. How do I stop this?

Go to System Preferences - General tab. Uncheck the box "Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps".
This might be a good option on a few applications, but can't see any reason you'd want to reopen the last windows in every application you install. Dumb idea, Apple.
    Hope this helps!

  • Installed Acrobat won't open in Doc or from Finder

I installed Adobe Acrobat and it will not open from the Dock or from Finder, but when I click on a PDF file Acrobat does open. Any idea what could be causing this? How can I get it to open independent of a specific document?

Hmm. Try opening the program in another user account (create one if necessary) and see if things change. You may also want to contact Adobe and see if they have any suggestions.

  • Acrobat won't open

I just installed the Master Collection and everything works fine except for Acrobat. When I open the program and try to use it, I get the following message: "A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional cannot continue. Please reinstall the application and try again." I reinstalled it 3 times and still get the same message. I tried opening it in another admin user account with no success. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Sometimes the reinstall requires:
    1. uninstall
    2. delete the installed folder
    3. clean the registry to get rid of loose references to Acrobat (this has to be done carefully).
    4. reinstall
I do not insure that these steps might help, but they have been suggested in the past. There are some registry cleaners that can be used that have also been mentioned in the reports of the process. Look for such info in the search.

  • Unable to open forms when Launching another application on same browser.

    Hi,
I have a server with configuration Oracle EBS 12.1.1 on RHEL 5.5, Database 11.1.0.7. On client machine we use Internet explorer, Firefox and Chrome to access the EBS and forms.
We are able to open the forms from all browsers, but problem arise when we access another application on same browser, resulting in not opening of oracle forms.
This is a java application using the same database on the server. This application works fine but Our Oracle Forms has to face the problems.
When we try to launch the forms, it results in FRM-92101 error. I read the MOS documents for
R12: "FRM-92101:There was a failure in the Forms Server during startup" Error When Attempting to Launch Forms [ID 454427.1]
Then I checked the application log file, it says that:
13/08/12 18:47:41.891 formsweb: Forms session <207> failed during startup: no response from runtime process
13/08/12 18:50:43.704 formsweb: Forms session <209> aborted: runtime process failed during startup with errors
Unable to switch to Working Directory: /oracle/TEST/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/forms
When I further investigate I found there is no such "forms" directory under "/oracle/TEST/apps/tech_st/10.1.3".
    Then I read Oracle Notes:
FRM-92101 : Unable To Switch To Working Directory. (Doc ID 1434888.1)
FRM-92101 Error in Application.log: Unable to Switch to Working Directory (Doc ID 432708.1)
But no luck with all these. Please suggest something. Can't open both application simultaneously on same browser.

    Prashant Namdeo

    Hi,
Please state whether the application was working fine before.
    Please provide log file  of:
    --$LOG_HOMEora/10.1.3/j2ee/forms/forms_default_group_1/application.log
--DB alert logfile --check whether you can find any valuable information.
Please have a look at the following MOS notes:

  • Photoshop tif won't open in Photoshop; launches Camera Raw plugin window

We recently upgraded from Creative Suite 1 to Creative Suite 3 (with Mac OS 10.5.4). I am trying to open a tif file that was saved out of Photoshop CS1, and it keeps launching the Camera Raw plugin window instead. I've tried saving as an EPS, then opening the EPS and re-saving as a tif. Doesn't help. I don't want to process this tif through Camera Raw each time it's opened!
Other images from the same photoshoot and saved in the same manner are fine (the tifs open in Photoshop as they should).
Is this a feature or a bug?
    Thank you

So why is it happening with only 1 out of 8 tifs from a single campaign that were all treated in the same manner (digital shots that were opened through Camera Raw plugin, manipulated in Photoshop and a layered PSD file saved, then flattened tif files generated)? The other 7 flattened tifs open directly into Photoshop without launching Camera Raw plugin.
And I can't find a preference that affects it. If it is "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for supported raw files", I have it unchecked.
    Any other suggestions?
