  • Won't recognize my scanner, printing works though

I recently switched my printer to my MacBook Air running latest software (10.8.3) as my PC died. When installing, it found the right driver automatically for my Brother DCP 8060 CUPS. I am able to print just fine. However have spent several hours trying to get it to recognize the scanner to no avail.
Troubleshooting I have tried was to remove the Brother's driver and reinstall with apples latest Brother printer drivers (i found it here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL894) and then re-connected my printer. Same result. I can print but can't scan. The Image Capture app shows no scanner. Preview's "Import from Scanner" is greyed (non-clickable).
I also followed the instructions from Brother's site for Mac 10.8 driver downloads for both printer and scanner (found here http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_index.html ?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=dcp8060_all&dlid=&flang=English&os=115&type2=-1) as well as tried to update the printer firmware per this page (firmware update failed as "couldn't find device). The TWAIN Scanner driver installed but set up failed stating it couldn't find the scanner.
Note, this is not a wireless printer. I am connecting it via a serial to USB cable.
I am not sure what to do. If anyone has a suggestion..?

Well, I figured out the problem. The usb port on the printer was damaged (prongs were bent). After I fixed it, it connected!

  • Acrobat 9 pro won't recognize my scanner

I just installed acrobat 9, I had been using version 8. Now when I go to create a file from scanner, it says "chosen unit is not supported".
I'm using a Dell 3115cn, so I can't believe that its some kind of exotic driver that Acrobat doesn't support. Any ideas?

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was recently installed on new Vista 64bit computer and functions with all programs and even prints to my Dell 1600n printer, but when I try to scan from the printer, it causes this error message and shuts Acrobat down:
"ADOBE ACROBAT HAS STOPED WORKING A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have lived with this since I bought the computer a month ago. Still no solution from Adobe and no response to an email that I sent to adobe support.

  • PS won't recognize new scanner

Photoshop (nor Acrobat Professional) from CS3 will not recognize my Epson 3200 scanner. I've installed it through System Preferences, rebooted, but still nothing. How do I get them to see my scanner?

  • Photoshop CS4, won't recognize new scanner

Hi all.  I have a new Dell Windows Vista 64 and have CS4, legit on it.  I have installed the Vista 64 driver on this epson 4490 photo scannner.  That all went well.  The computer recognizes it, I can click on the icon on the desk top and bring up the epson full software to scan.  But when I'm in Photoshop, and click import, I don't see the epson 4490 listed, like I use to on my old computer with CS2 and I could open it with the full software in PS.  I can click on the WIA supported items and it will be there, but it is only an abreviated version of the epson software.  I can't make it be the full version that I bring up from the desktop icon. I've restarted the computer a couple of times after installing the software.
I can work with it this way, but much easier to bring it up from PS of course.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks everyone.

Hey, so when in Photoshop, like I mentioned earlier, I can access an abbreviated version of the Epson software, and I can get it to open up on PS.  It just isn't the full version and I can't do adjustments.  It simply scans it, not much control.
I adjusted the title to this question to clarify.
    Thanks again.
    edit:
Just found this in another thread for Mac's.  It says it is better to scan as a stand alone, not from within Photohshop since there have been conflicts and bad things with drivers.  Even thought I have a different scanner than the one mentioned.  This may be the answer.  It defaults to not working within PS.  Any thoughts?

  • Ratoc still won't recognize the scanner... any suggestions?

I have recently purchased a Ratoc firewire converter for use with a high end scanner... a Umax Powerlook III.
I'm trying to keep this scanner since it makes high quality pre-press scans and I create artwork for publishing. Just as an example, I noticed a Powerlook III on ebay listed for over $3,000 recently.
Anyhow, here's the situation. With several tries I can manage to get the Ratoc to show up on my Mac Pro system profiler, where it will sometimes recognize the Ratoc under the Firewire category, the listing says:
    IEE1394 - SCSI-3:
    RATOC Systems, Inc.
    Model: 0x0
    GUID: 0xC0D00000FC03D7
Maximum speed: UP to 400 Mb/sec
Connection Speed: Up to 400 Mb/Sec
    Sub-units:
    IEEEE - SCSI-3 Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10483
    Unit Spec ID: 0x609E
    firmware Revision: 0x10136
    Sub-units:
    EE1394 - SCSI-3 SBP-LUN
But STILL the System Profiler does not recognize the Umax Powerlook III scanner to which it is attached.
WHY would it recognize the Ratoc, but not the Scanner?
I have tried all 10 of the Umax ID numbers from 1-10, with multiple rebootings.
I have tried adding in the 5 volt power unit to terminate the SCSI chain.
I have read the recommendations on the Mac Guru Ratoc site... where it claims that Snow Leopard ought to work without any problems with a Ratoc to Firewire.
SO I'm stumped and curious if anyone might think of anything else I might try to do besides using my old PowerMac just to make the scans on it's legacy system.
I assume I could use some sort of 'target mode' to actually see my Cinema Display through the old MDD G4 Powermac with a firewire hookup?
    Thanks a million!

They simply say that it ought to work? That doesn't seem very confident.
If you can see the Ratoc device but not the scanner it stands to reason that the device is not working like you want it to.

  • Mac won't recognize HPD110 scanner that came free with MacBook

Please help if you have had the same issue and found a resolution. I had hit & miss scanning with my old HP 5610 all-in-one via my iMac, but am not able to scan at all with the HP D110 that the Apple store GAVE me with the purchase of my MacBook. I have hooked it up via wireless (USB was not in box even though it said it was included). I can copy and print just fine, but the computer (iMac) can't find the scanner. I've tried installing the HP driver via the CD and via their website. I've tried turning the printer on and off, the computer on and off and even tried through vuescan. It will NOT find the scanner. I've also tried via Image Capture. This is so frustrating, because I have two great HP printers/scanners and I can't get either one to work with my Macs. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

For Mac, Senuti seems to be the free program of choice.

I use Music Liberator, which is not free ($25) but does a good job. You can try it in a crippled mode for free.

To get the iPod to be recognized, try putting it into Disk Mode before connecting it to the Mac.

  • Acrobat won't recognize .indd files when combining

    Hi
Individually Acrobat will convert these files into a .pdf, but when I choose to select all the .indd files using the 'combine' option and after loading all the files in the window and then 'select' merge into a single file' Acrobat gives a message it can't find the application that created these .indd files.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks..

You should not be using Acrobat to create pdfs from InDesign. Each of the InDesign files should be exported to pdf. Then if you can combine the resultant pdfs into a single pdf in Acrobat.

  • Acrobat XI won't recognize scanner

I installed Acrobat XI replacing Acrobat 9 and the program won't recognize my scanner.
    Setup: Windows 7 x64, Canon MG6120
All other programs, to include Photoshop, work fine with the scanner. The scanner works in other user profiles (for Acrobat XI) on the computer, but not in my main profile. The scanner is on the list of devices for Acrobat XI, but when asked to scan, the program cannot find the scanner. If I attempt a failed scan, on logout from the user profile I get an error associated with LogTransport2.exe. This error only occurs when Acrobat XI attempts a scan an fails.
I have tried deleting all local app data for Acrobat in the user profile, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer but nothing seems to work. I believe it is a configuration error in the specific user profile, but I cannot find out were the information is stored.
    Thanks,

Try logging into your administrative account and see if Adobe Acrobat Pro will communicate with your scanner.
If Adobe Acrobat Pro will communicate with your scanner from the Administrator Account but will not communicate from any other user account.  Log in to the account you prefer and perform the following.   Adobe says it is not
a bug in Adobe Acrobat Pro, but a Microsoft  user profile problem.  I disagree because all my programs work except for Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    1.  Make sure that you have a password for your administrative user account.
    2.  Elevate and display The Command Prompt as follows:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Right Click on Command Prompt > Right Click on Run as administrator>
Agree to let program make changes to computer > The command prompt will be open.
The command prompt will display something like; C:\windows\system32
    3.  Now it's time to run Acrobat Pro as an Administrator.  You may have to adjust the following statement to get the correct path to acrobat.exe. Edit the command prompt.  Space once after system32 and paste the following and hit enter.
    runas/user:administrator "c:\program files (x86)\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat\acrobat.exe"
    (do not space after 9.0)
    4. Enter the administrator password when asked and hit enter.
    5.  The program should start.
You may wonder why you didn't just right click on the Acrobat icon on your desktop and run as administrator. The reason is because it doesn't work and this does.  I have tested this on Windows 7 Acrobat 9.0 Pro.  It's a pain to go through the steps everytime you open Acrobat Pro, but Adobe won't fix this problem.  I loaded a trial version of 11.0 and they still haven't fixed the problem so we will just have to use work arounds.  I'm not going to hand them another $199 when they refuse to fix the problem that has not been fixed in at least three versions.  Another solution is to create a new administrative type user account and move all your data to the new account.  No Thank you.  Adobe is not on my good list.

  • Acrobat 9 won't recognize scanner

I have a HP 8550A OfficeJet.  Adobe Acrobat will not recognize the scanner (Scanner not found error) but Adobe Photoshop CS5 is able to scan without any problem.  Any suggestions?  I am running Windows Vista

Problem solved.  Ran a Custom Scan which allowed me to select the Twain Scanner.  Worked okay after that.

  • How to get Adobe to recognize my scanner

I've upgraded to PSE 6 for the Mac. I still have PSE 4 on my machine also.
For some reason, PSE 6 does not recognize my scanner, but PSE 4 does.
I also have Acrobat Professional which I bought so that I could make pdf files from my scanner, and it doesn't recognize my scanner either.
How do I get both PSE 6 and Acrobat Professional to recognize my scanner?
    Thanks,
    Carole

I finally got PSE 6 to recognize my scanner and also Photoshop CS3, but I still can't get Acrobat 8 Professional to recognize it.  There is no Rosetta box for Acrobat.
Is there any way to get Acrobat to recognize the scanner?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • How do I get Photoshop Elements 9 to recognize my scanner?

I have recently upgraded my computer to an iMac, running OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. I have PSE9 installed but the program won't recognize my scanner. I have a Brother MFC9325. The scanner function will work with my PC, running XP, but not my iMac.

In Elements 9, you may need to copy the Adobe TWAIN driver, if your scanner requires it, from the optional plug-ins folder to the Import-Export folder in the main plug-ins folder.
You will need to copy the plug-in Twain_32.8ba
    Copy from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export
    Copy to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9\Locales\en_US\Plug-Ins\Import-Export.
N.B. on Windows 32 bit systems navigate to Program Files. Replace en_US with your own geographic location if necessary.
On a Mac, go to Applications à Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 à Support Files à Optional Plug- Ins à ImportModules, and move the TWAIN.plugin from there into Applications à Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 à Support Files à Plug-Ins à Import Modules. For the App Store version, go to Applications and Right- click/Control-click Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Editor and choose Show Package Contents à Contents and move TWAIN.plugin from Optional Plug-ins à ImportModules to Plug-ins à ImportModules. N.B. If you see a message warning that plug-ins can't be modified. Click Authenticate and enter your Mac OS X account password -then move the plug-in.

  • Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize Canon Lide 200 Scanner

  • Acrobat Pro 9 and Leopard Won't Recognize Scanner

Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I am running OS 10.5.5 on an iMac (intel core duo processor), and using Acrobat Pro 9.0.0. I have an Epson 1640SU scanner, and it has worked fine through all of OS X including Tiger 10.4.11 and Acrobat Pro 9 on my PowerPC (G4 PowerMac). However, I cannot get it to recognize a scanner in Acrobat Pro. When I go to File, Create PDF, From Scanner I get the Acrobat Scan window but there are no scanners available (under Tiger with Acrobat Pro on the PowerMac G4 this window would then allow me to select my scanner). I downloaded the latest Epson drivers, and the scanner works fine with Adobe Photoshop CS3 (IN ROSETTA MODE). Epson had a note regarding CS3 which indicated to set it to operate in Rosetta mode (whatever that is) and the instructions to do so by checking a box in the Get Info command from the Application Finder window. Acrobat Pro does not have any option like that.
Anyhow, am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else run across this? Is there a solution which allows scanning direct from the Acrobat Pro application?
My current work around is to scan in CS3 or the Epson Scan application then to save the document and then to open in with Acrobat Pro and then to work on it.
Thanks for any ideas, information or assistance.
    Barry

the check mark by the scanner in the system preferences indicates That the driver is active. you wan to uncheck all the scanner drivers except any associated with Epson.
what you do once you get into acrobat, is choose the scan device. which should show (choosing SANE). Now go to File menu and choose make PDF from Scanner. If everything is set you get a menu of whether you want front page only Both and so on there will also in acrobat 9 be some setting for Optical Character recognition and so on.
Then choose to start scan after setting everything. Now you will have to wait for the SANE Scanner menu to come up. choose whether color Greyscale or line art and set the slider for the desired DPI. now hit preview. let scanner scan item them you can click anywhere in the bounding box to make it disappear and you can choose the desired portion of document you wan to scan.
Ok and make sure you down only the versions of the components for the OSX version your using. each is written different according to the OS.

I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.
Is there a fix for this? It worked with CS6 and CC just fine.

Did you turn off the "show transform controls" option in the move tool?
It sounds like you were using that previously.
And you can always transform by using the Free Transform command (command/control T).
