Acrobat X defaults to imperial

Hi
I run Windows 7 Pro and have Acrobat X installed. Everytime I set the preferences to millimeters under "page and ruler units". It defaults back to inches after closing and re-opening Acrobat. Can anyone tell me how to keep these preferences?
Also, most times I close Acrobat, I get an error message saying that Acrobat has stopped working. Perhaps they are connected issues?
Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks Sabian
When I get to "Adobe Acrobat\11.0"...... there is no option for "Originals", there is however in "Adobe Acrobat\10.0". it reads...
"iPageUnits     REG_DWORD     0x00000002 (2)"
Should I change it? and what should I change it to?

  • Sticky notes in Acrobat X default to off-the-page and extremely large

    Hi!
I'm fighting an issue where sticky notes that I add to any PDF will always default to the far right (off of the screen) and they tend to be large (as in, the size of about 2 letter pages).  Everytime I add a sticky note to a PDF I must zoom out such that I can see multiple pages on my screen in order to get to the corner of the sticky note and proceed to make it smaller.  This is getting unbelievably tedious as I often review 100's of pages of PDF documents and make comments throughout.  I've tried deleting all of my Acrobat folders in C:\Users\<me>\AppData but the problem persists.  I did not have this issue in Acrobat 7.
I'm on Windows 7 Profession 64bit and am using Acrobat X Standard.  I hope I do not need to reinstall acrobat as I will have to get IT invoved to do that.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Acrobat reader defaulting to 51% zoom size when opening and printing Report

We are publishing reports on a web-integrated acrobat reader. All the reports work fine except for 1 report. The problem with this particular report is that when it opens up in the acrobat reader, it's zoom size automatically defaults to 51%. Then when we print it in landscape mode, it prints with the same zoom-size settings. Even if we try printing after expanding the zoom size to 100%, it still prints to the smaller size and leaves nearly 40% of the paper blank. It works ok with client-server settings as well as when we use HTML or HTMLCSS format to print on the browser. We are using the run_report_object built-in to open the report which is a parameter report.
Other reports with identical settings work and print fine. Is this a Oracle Reports problem or acrobat problem.
We are using Forms 6.0.8.19.2, Reports v6.0.8.18.0, iAS v1.0.2.2.2a, Acrobat reader v5.0, IE 5.5 with SP2, Windows 2000 Server.
Report fonts are Courier New with size 6.
    Any ideas/solutions aprreciated. Thanks!

    And so.. what is invalid?
I've uploaded the pdf files as example:
    My generated pdf

The modified version by Adobe Acrobat Reader:
    http://compuhelp.free.fr/adobe/after.pdf
(I can generate a more complexe pdf file with fonts, images,... it will be displayed correctly, but Adobe always want to modifiy it).
So perhaps I missed somthing into the pdf file format specification ?

  • Help with browser issue - Acrobat Pro default for PDF

    Hello,
I have Acrobat Pro CS3 set as default for reading pdf's, because I often have to edit the pdf's I open. This works fine with pdf's I open from disk.
However, it seems that somehow Acrobat Pro has taken over as default for opening pdf's inside browsers as well. My plugins list in FF shows "Adobe Acrobat 9.1.0.163 Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape". Whenever I navigate to a page which is a pdf, the entire Acrobat Pro external program opens, displaying a blank page and an error message popup - when I click OK on the error, the application closes and the pdf opens in the browser window - sometimes this requires several tries before it opens in browser.
Here is an image showing the error message and the FF plugin installed: http://terraffirma.com/images/PDF-error.jpg
I have Reader 9 installed on system, and I am downloading Reader 10 just to see if a reinstall will correct this.
Any suggestions on how to set system up with Acrobat Pro as default for opening pdf's from disk, and having browser directly use a plugin?
    Thank you.

Thanks Chris - That did EXACTLY what I wanted it to do.
I was able to create a button that prompts the user to save the form, then it hides the price fields, then it flattens, then it e-mails the form. The order was important since I wanted the salesperson to be able to save the "not-flattened" form.

  • Acrobat toolbars - default to open?

When I open Acrobat, all of my custom toolbars were previously displayed.
I must have accidentally turned this off because, when I open a Acrobat now, the toolbars are hidden. I know how to get them to display again, but how do I return to the default setting of having the toolbars automatically be visible when I launch Acrobat?
I must have hit some keystroke combination that turned this setting off, but I can't figure out how to turn it back on, and searching the forum hasn't yielded an answer
Thanks very much for your help!

Thank you for the reply, Russell. You are correct - the toolbars don't appear without a document open. However, they used to automatically appear EVERY time I opened a document.
I have tried opening a PDF, switching on the toolbars (with F8 or via mouse), closing the PDF, then re-opening a PDF. The toolbars do NOT re-appear unless I F8 again.
There is a setting that allows you to revert to the last view (i.e., with the toolbar open, if it was open when you closed the PDF), but it only works if you re-open the SAME PDF in which you had switched on the toolbars. In other words, it reverts back to no toolbars if you open a new PDF.

  • Making Acrobat the Default .pdf Viewer

Can someone tell me where to find the switch that makes Acrobat 9 my default .pdf program?  Right now it's Foxit and I want to go back to Acrobat 9.  The default switch in Foxit says I have to make the change in Acrobat.
    Thanks.

    Depends on your OS.
Mostly if you right click on a PDF that is saved on your hard drive and choose "Open with", pick Acrobat and select "always use the selected program to open this type of file" it will clear it up.
I'm not sure why Foxit gave you that information though.

  • When I print, resolution changes, can I reset Acrobat to default settings?

I can't see any issue with any of my settings though shortly after reinstalling CS a month ago, Acrobat started printing to a much lower resolution than the PSD (or any application) is set to print to, though Photoshop may be the only one where I am actively looking into resolution issues because...
Every resulting PDF I get is about 1x1", when I'm starting with a letter size doc (or any other size, they all shrink down that dramatically in Acrobat iwth the resulting PDF).
Checking all resolution settings in Advanced Print Settings dialogs all -look- like they're fine. Is there a way to reset the whole shebang to installation default settings to help correct this traumatic happening which always happens just as I need to send a PDF off to someone of course.
Thanks for your help in advance, I really appreciate any tips or if the default thing is easy, thanks!

Hi, thanks. Do you mean Save As - Photoshop PDF, or... how are you referring to doing that?
(Thank you for this!  I had taken to making screenshots for pete's sake, though this change happened suddenly, so ... I have no idea why printing to PDF suddenly didn't work and it seems it should be "repairable".)

What settings can be made in Adobe (even if it has ro be done on a daily basis on one user's workstation, not the network) to avoid this problem? • How do I set Acrobat as default over Reader?

I use Acrobat Professional but recently installed Reader to check my PDF forms.
Can someone tell me how to set Acrobat as the default program in favor of Reader?
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for the answer.
This was one of those questions that one asks yet feels really dumb doing so. I've been using the Macintosh as a graphic designer for about 25 years now, but have never had a reason to do this! I recall now seeing the default notation in the Get Info boxes.
This is what happenes from long days at the keyboard. Oh well, I'm not complaining. I love my work!
    Thanks again,

  • Make Acrobat the default reader for pdf-files.

Since some time (probably after I installed Mavericks) pdf-files are by default opened
in Preview. To open them in Adobe Acrobat, I can right-click the pdf-file, choose Acrobat,
and indicate that Acrobat should be the default reader for pdf-files.
This works, and after logout and login, it does still work.
But after a reboot, Preview is again the default reader.
Also, if in Finder I right-click a pdf-file, and via Get Info I configure Acrobat
to be the default reader for the specific file and all other pdf-files (by clicking
Change All), this only works for the current session. After a reboot Preview again is the
    default.
How can I make Acrobat Reader the default reader for pdf-files, and make this setting
    permanent?
    Where is this setting saved?
    Regards,
    Kees.

I finally solved this, but I still don't understand how.
To begin with I have 2 hard-drives in my iMac. The OS is on the primary HD, and data are on the secondary drive. My Home directory too is on this secondary HD.
To check whether the location of the Home directory might be the problem, I copied the Home directory to the primary HD, changed the path in my profile, and did a reboot.
The next step was to configure Adobe Acrobat as the default reader for pdf-files. To my surprise,  after rebooting, Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
So it looks as if this problem has something to do with the location of the Home directory.
The original Home directory was still present on the secondary  HD,  So the next step was to change in my profile the path to the Home directory again (pointing again to the original Home directory on the second HD), do a reboot and delete the copy of the Home directory on the primary HD.
So now the situation was back to as it was before: the Home directory on the second HD.
To my surprise now Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
And I could also change the default reader to Preview, and back to Acrobat, and this setting was saved across reboots.
I'm curious to what solved this problem, and where the setting of the default pdf-reader, or more general, the default application for file types, is stored.
So I hope that someone who reads this, can shed some light on this.

  • Is there a way to have Adobe Acrobat reader default to a higher version?

    Hi,
We've pin-pointed the cause of an issue where in MS Excel we hyperlink a PDF file & our user is using Adobe Acrobat v7 & when the user clicks on it. The PDF pops up & just disappears.
I've located the fix for it on MS Discussion Forums below:
If you have version 7, you need to upgrade to version 7.0.8 to get a fix for this bug in Acrobat.
But what we need to know is, if they have Adobe V7 installed, we can install v8 for them. But is there a way of having V8 set as a default reader?
This may sound like a stupid question but my work colleague wanted me to ask.
    Thanks,
    PS

It's not recommended nor supported to have both installed unless you're running Macs.
Not being able to choose a default version is just one of the many issues.

  • What is Acrobat's Default Color Profile?

    Hello,
We have a client's client who used a novice graphic designer who didn't color manage, and created a PDF containing colors that the client is pleased with. Trouble is, we have no idea what the desiner assumed as the color profile and the color profile that the client's Acrobat defaults to when displaying the PDF. And now we're having trouble recreating a PDF that the client deems matching. Our office has long since switched to ProPhoto RGB as our default RGB color profile, so we don't know what Adobe Acrobat ships with as its default (assumed) color profile when there are none embedded/assigned in the PDF (ours is now ProPhoto RGB).
    1. Can someone who's not monkeyed with their color settings open up their Acrobat and look under the Preferences (ctrl-k), and "color management" and let me know what the working spaces read?
    Also,
    2. Is there a way to know what (if any) color profile a PDF has embedded in it? I cannot seem to find it in the PDF's metadata, and typically play with the "output preview" settings until I find one that doesn't alter the appearance (not the most efficient).
    Thanks!

DeviceRGB is the default condition for many PDF creation workflows as it was the very first one supported in PDF version 1.0. - because PostScript 1.0 initially supported DeviceRGB and DeviceGray, with DeviceCMYK arriving later. ICC-based spaces came in PostScript 2 (PDF 1.3).
"Device..." spaces simply mean that the color data is preserved as-supplied from the original material - for example a scanner will see a particular red ink on the paper and record it with a certain RGB value. Unless that scan is subsequently assigned a calibration profile, the bitmap image may not look identical when re-printed but it is "accurate" in terms of what the scanner wrote to file. You can think of "Device..." spaces as being "raw data", so if you have two photographs on a PDF page, both from different sources but with DeviceRGB space, then pixels of (123,0,0) in each image will be an identical color on one particular user's monitor and printer. That color will only match the actuality of what was photographed (and what other users are seeing) if the user's display hardware is calibrated, but that's a different question entirely. Acrobat cannot correct for an uncalibrated monitor.
In the very early says of PDF and PostScript it was adopted as a print/prepress format, so color accuracy was important and features such as Output Intents and PDF/X were rapidly developed. Now, the majority of PDF files are never printed and many are designed with on-screen display as the only planned use - where RGB and unmanaged colors are perfectly acceptable. Nobody will ever notice the difference between AdobeRGB and sRGB when peering at a PDF file on a cellphone, but embedding the profiles will dramatically increase the filesize.
