Acrobat X does not install the Adobe PDF printer

When I try to install the Acrobat X on a Vista SP2 machine, the installation completed successfully but it does not create the Adobe PDF icon in the printers section.
This was not a problem earlier, but there were some microsoft patches and GPO updates which happened which may be causing this issue. I am not sure what change has caused this problem.
Any ideas on where to start the investigation would help.

you need to update to 8.1

  • Acrobat 8 installation does not create a "Adobe PDF" printer device on Vista

On a new Windows Vista Premium system I installed a new (not upgrade) Adobe CS3 Design Suite. Everything installed properly (it did before on a Windows XP SP2 system) but the Adobe PDF Printer doesn't appear at all!
    What???????????????????
There is an Adobe Acrobat for Windows knowledge base article covering it: Error "Warning 20225..." or no Adobe PDF printer appears (Acrobat 8.0 and Acrobat 3D 8.0 on Windows) (333221)
20225: Adobe Acrobat 8 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Converter. The Adobe PDF Printer may be unavailable. GetLastError: The specified module could not be found." When you click OK, the installer... (6/8/07)
The symptoms and possible workarounds didn't seem to apply and a couple of the suggestions (disabling certain services) didn't look right. But throughout the KB article it indicating doing a reinstall of Acrobat using the Help menu to do a Repair.
So, I selected the Repair command on the Help menu WITHOUT doing any of their recommendations and lo-n-behold, the Adobe PDF driver appeared! What am I missing??? It does work but I am suspicious.

  • Installing Acrobat Pro 7 on Windows 7: Adobe PDF Printer won't install

Moving to a new system, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit  Already installed FrameMaker 8, without installing the Adobe PDF printer.  Now trying to install my trusty copy of Acrobat Pro version 7.  I get a "Warining 20225" (see attached), and the printer driver does not install.
What do I have to do here?  Uninstall FM8, uninstall Acrobat, reinstall Acrobat, reinstall FM8?
    --C

What do I have to do here?
Buy and install Adobe Acrobat X.

  • Install Just Adobe Pdf Printer 9.0. I already have acrobat 9 pro configured

I just installed acrobat 9 pro but declined to install the adobe Pdf printer 9 when the installer asked.
I now find I will need Adobe Pdf printer 9.0.
How can I install just this Adobe printer from the DVD?
I cannot access any custom install features from the dvd as this is a braindead drag and drop into the applications folder type of installer.

I found this and it worked.

  • How do I download the adobe pdf printer

how do I install the adobe pdf printer?  I'm working with adobe pro xi and can't find the printer.  thanks.

You don't download it. If you are on Windows, it gets installed as part of Acrobat Pro. If you are on a Mac, it has gone, killed by Apple.

Might depend on the OS that you did not mention. Try doing the updates and see if that solves the problem. Otherwise, tell us more about your OS.

  • In installation process of Acrobat Professional 7 , its showing that Adobe Pdf printer is not Installed...need help to install the software completely

In installation process of Acrobat Professional 7 , its showing that Adobe Pdf printer is not Installed...need help to install the software completely

If it is Win 7 or later, the Adobe PDF printer for AA 7 will not install and AcroTray will not function. You will have to install a PS driver from Adobe or maybe an HP color PS printer driver. Then edit the driver properties and change the name to Adobe PDF and the port to FILE. You will always have to do an extra step in creating PDFs by opening the file that is created in Distiller to get the PDF.
If you are talking about Win 8, you may not be successful at all. If you got Acrobat and Distiller to install, then there is a chance.

  • I can not print an PDF using the Adobe PDF-Printer with Acrobat DC

    Hi all,
i installed the Trial of Acrobat DC but it dont let me use the Adobe PDF-Printer well, because i cannot print from any third-party-application using Adobe PDF.
I tryed to print from within Word, Editor and Browser and selected the Adobe PDF-Printer as target, but at 75% both, the Application from which i print and the PDF-Creating-Wizzard are freezing (for hours) and i need to kill the procesed. No PDF-File is created. Same Problem with trying to print a Testfile from within the Windows-Printer-Dialogs.
Only Adobe DC cause this issue, if i use freeware like Bullzip PDF the files get created successfully, so i assume its not a generally problem with PDF on my system.
What could be the problem? (pls dont say its because of the trial, a trail should allow to test all features and Why should i buy a programm if it cannot do what a freeware can do?)

    Hey Daniel,
Have you tried repair Adobe Acrobat DC?
If no, then please repair the installation under Help menu.
This could also happen due to an Adobe Acrobat DC installation file corruption. To resolve this issue :-
Uninstall Adobe Acrobat DC using the Acrobat cleaner utility.
    Restart your computer.
Re-install Acrobat Acrobat DC  Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat Pro DC.
Let me know if the issue persist.

  • PDFMaker cannot locate the Adobe PDF Printer's printer driver. Please re-install Adobe Acrobat 10.1

The following error message appears when I try to create a PDF in Publisher:
PDFMaker cannot locate the Adobe PDF Printer's printer driver. Please re-install Adobe Acrobat 10.1.
I have tried update patches to no avail.
    Can anyone please help?
    Thank you.

This is the forum for Adobe Reader (not Acrobat). If you have Reader, you won't have that driver. If you have Acrobat, you'll want to ask in that forum: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat

  • Acrobat 7, needed with FrameMaker 7: How do I get and install an "Adobe PDF printer instance?"

In FrameMaker, when I try to save a FrameMaker file as a PDF file, I get the following message: "FrameMaker could not find Adobe PDF printer instance, which must be installed to execute "Save as PDF" command".  I have a sinking feeling that I deleted that printer instance from my list of printers, thinking I did not need such a printer. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling FrameMaker 7, Acrobat 7 and Reader 9. All reinstalled successfully, EXCEPT still no Adobe PDF printer instance. Thus my question: how do I get and install that Adobe PDF printer instance?
.( I am using a new computer. I still have my old computer available, with the Adobe PDF printer instance on it. If I could find where in the old machine (Windows XP)  the files are for it, I could copy them to the new machine).
Thanks in advance  for any advice.

    Just curious,
What is the new machine's OS (& is it 32-bit or 64-bit)?
    Be well...

  • Acrobat cannot open files in the "Adobe PDF document" format

The document “example.pdf” could not be opened. Acrobat cannot open files in the “Adobe PDF document” format.
    Hi All,
Running Acrobat Pro 9.4.2 on Snow Leopard, have never had this problem before. Showed up about a week ago, I believe with new update. Can't double click on a file in Finder, or drag and drop to AcrobatPro in Dock, but can open from within Acrobat Pro / File / Open command.
All my preferences are correct with "Open With Acrobat Pro" as the default.
I've read all the threads I can find with no answers yet.
Anyone found and answer, I see a lot of us are going through this over the last year.
Only possible common thread I have found is possibly HP printers. But I've been running HP printers all along with no issues.
    Thanks for you input.

Moved to Acrobat Installation & Update Issues
Either Acrobat needs to be re-installed or the file is named as a pdf file, but it is not a pdf file. Try opening the pdf file in a text editor and read off what the first line of the file is.

  • How do I install the Adobe PDF Pack Desktop Printer

How do I install the Adobe PDF Pack desktop printer?

If you’re running the standalone version of FM, then the “headless” Acrobat comes with it; reinstall FM to repair that part. However, if you already had a full version of Acrobat installed, the FM installer may have screwed it up – you’ll have to uninstall all Acrobat(s) and reinstall.

  • My iTunes installation via Windows 7 does not install the Apple Mobile Device Support file

I have followed several suggestions to resolve the problem caused because of my update of iTunes does not install the Apple Mobile Device Support folder, thus making it impossible for me to sync my iPhone 4S to my desktop version of iTunes. I have tried to install the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi file and it almost completes the installation before "rolling back" the entire process and giving me a message that there was a problem with the installation. Has anyone been able to solve this problem. I use Windows 7. I have seem some :"solutions" that seem to work for some people, but not for me, and evidently not for many others? Finally, would it matter if I installed Safari on my desktop and tried to install iTunes using Safari?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • How do I install a Adobe pdf printer?

Upgrade from Acrobat Pro X to Pro XI destroyed my prior Adobe pdf printer. How do I reinstall the printer instance without reinstalling Acrobat XI?
I found a reply for an earlier version of Acrobat, but I have no interest in installing the PDF printer into \Desktop or \Documents. Whatever it said to do didn't work and I've received no reply to my question posted on that old thread.
So, how do I recreate the Adobe PDF printer, and, how do I do so while selecting where I want the .pdf files to be located?
    Thanks in advance for help

What OS are you running? If it is a version of Windows, is it 32 or 64 bit? Are you using 11.0.0? Did you reboot after the install? If you did not reboot, then do that first. The next step is to run a repair and then do the updates (XI is currently at 11.0.03). Both the Repair and the Updates can be run from the Help menu.

  • Avoiding the 'Save PDF File As' dialog when printing to the adobe PDF printer from a service

    Hello, can someone please help.
I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro installed.
I have an in house application which (among many other things) effectively monitors a directory and prints the file to the default printer. It works fine when run as an application.
I have set the defaults on the Adobe PDF printer to put the output PDF file into a directory and not to open it so it works silently without prompts.
When I run my application as a service, it brings up the 'Save PDF File As' dialog and I would like to avoid this. My impression is that if I put the right registry key in then it will work.
I do not want to do any scripting if I can avoid it.
Thanks for all constructive help given.

Thank for your help Bill, but changing settings in the distiller did not seem to work. As my application prints directly to the default application without using anything specific to Acrobat, I was hoping there was a simple way forward. A colleague suggested copying registry entries from the account I logged on as to the S-1-5-18 entry, then rebooting. This had no effect as the prompt still comes up.
Aandi, I don't have the Acrobat SDK or any experience of it.
Also I'm not sure where any code/script would sit since the application is stable and so I would rather not change it.
If it amounts to a few lines of javascript sitting outside the application then that would be of interest.
