  • Acrobat XI Pro crashing, faulting module: TOUCHUP.API

Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.4.63 (running on W7 Pro + SP1, 64-bit) has suddenly begun to crash when moving text fields in forms. I am now unable to add or edit any text in text fields of any PDF form. No updates, installations or system changes were made prior to, or at the onset of, this issue
I have attempted: Disable antivirus; use safe mode; repair install; remove faulting plugin from reference path and repair install; uninstall + CClean registry + full reinstall; and full reinstall without any updates. Acrobat software is unusable in its current state. I would appreciate some help!

  • Adobe Acrobat 10.1.19 crashes, Event Viewer says scan.api is at fault

    Hello all,
I am a relative newcomer to these boards but I got a problem I just can't seem to find the answer to, but it is a question that others are asking as well.
I recently had to reprogram my computer, Windows 7 64-bit. I installed everything back to the way it was. I installed the Brother MFC-420CN as I always do. I installed my Acrobat 10 and upgraded to 10.1.19.
For some reason, however, the program won't let me scan.
    I go:
    Create
    PDF from Scanner
    Custom Scan
I select "TW-Brother MFC-420CN USB," click the scan button, and I get a message saying "Adobe Acrobat has stopped working."
This is what Microsoft tells me:
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH
      Application Name:    Acrobat.exe
      Application Version:    10.1.9.22

This is what the Event Viewer tells me:

The "scan.api" seems to be the culprit but I've been unable to find a fix.
    Can anyone help me?
Thanks from a perplexed but long time Acrobat user.

Unfortunately there isn't. When I install the MFC, the installation uses drivers from the 2009 installer and what it gets from Windows Downloads.

    Hi Sue,
Does this happen with any particular file or all files?
Since the crash report above mentions accessibility.api, so are you working on any related function like adding tags etc. when Acrobat crashes?
Disable all the 3rd party services working in the background and check.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Scan.api error after scanning and then clicking no for no more pages.  Acrobat x pro then closes.

I never had a problem scanning and saving the file before. But now I receive an error after I finish scanning, then hit "no" for no more pages to be scanned. Error message is as follows: Adobe acrobat error signature: AppName: acrobat.exe  AppVer: 10.1.10.18 ModName: scan.api  ModVer: 10.1.10.18 Offset: 00033117.
    Then the program closes.
This is really driving me crazy because I haven't done anything different to my computer or the scanning process.  Please help.

    Hi Charlene Luong,
Could you please let me know if you are on Windows or MAC.
Also, restart your computer and check for your system updates.
    Hope to get your response.
    Regards,
    Anubha

  • Faulting module acrobat.dll

    Lame day!
I haven't posted here in over a year. I guess that's good. Today we converted my machine here at work from our old NT 4 domain to the new Active Directory server. Then I spent my afternoon repairing all the stuff related to CS3 that were somehow bombed in the switch -- stuff like a blank XML configuration file or a palette in Photoshop. I got everything except one problem: Acrobat just won't start. I get a classic Windows "program encountered error" message immediately and that's all. When I take a look at the error log, I see:
Faulting application acrobat.exe, version 8.1.0.137, faulting module acrobat.dll, version 8.1.0.137, fault address 0x00117e1c.
I've tried repairing and reinstalling, but the problem persists. I tried to install Reader and had the same results (with a slightly modified error log).
Distiller still works. I can make PDFs using the Office plug-in. I just can't look at them after that. Also, sometimes I need to do more than just turn a Word document into a PDF.
So, if anyone can provide me with a clue, I'd love it. Here are all the relevant details of my machine:
    - Windows XP Pro
    - CS3 Web Premium
    - 1GB RAM
    - Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.13 GHz
    Thanks, folks!

Maybe the .dll itself has been corrupted. When I try to reinstall from the DVD, I can't select Acrobat. It says it's already installed. Is there a way just to get the .dll? I haven't been able to look at a PDF on my machine since this started. I can make them, but then I have to use my development machine in another room to see them. Remote Desktop is nice, but it gets lame quickly.

  • Acrobat Reader 10.1.3.23 - faulting module acrord32.dll

    Symptoms:
    Reader crashes after opening.
Internet explorer crashes after accessing a pdf file.
    Operating systems:
    Windows server 2008 R2 x64 with XenApp 6.5
    Windows server 2003 R2 x64 and x86 with Citrix 4.5
    Windows 7 x64
    Protected mode is OFF
Issue started occuring seemingly from nowhere Monday evening, 8/26/13
Unable to identify any recent security patches or other OS level changes
Copying in the acrord32.dll from a working 10.1.6 installation appears to resolve but I don't want to deal with a possible version mismatch so rolled that back (just did it as a test).
Uninstall\reinstall did not repair the issue
Unable to find an anti-virus related cause (we use symantec 12.1)
Unable to find an offending gpo
Any help would be appreciated... running out of ideas!

  • Itunes.exe disappears in Win7, Exception code: 0xc0000005, Faulting module name: es.dl

On a Windows 7 Pro SP1 Toshiba Satellite A505 64bit laptop, when I run Itunes, no windows ever appears. If I watch Task Manager, "itunes.exe *32" appears briefly then disappears.
I ended ipodservice.exe, no diff. Started Itunes in Itunes safemode, no diff (in Windows normal mode OR windows safe mode).  I tried creating another user - same issue. I tried disabling the antivirus. I scanned for viruses.  I uninstalled ALL the apple software and removed ALL the apple related folders (incl bonjour, apple blah, quicktimes, itunes, etc), as per
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
The problem persisted. After the most recent removal / reinstall,I went to event viewer > applications and found the following items. I didn't find anything online relating to es.dll and itunes.

Do these indicate any fix that i have not already tried above?

  • 10.1.2.45 Crash on Print -- faulting module name softseal.api_unloaded

    Greetings,
Seeing this on a few of our Windows 7 x64 Professional machines with Adobe Reader X 10.1.2.45, recent printing crash patch applied.
Whenever we try to print on these machines, be it through browser plug in or a downloaded PDF, we get an error.  Event log shows this:
Faulting application name: AcroRd32.exe, version: 10.1.2.45, time stamp: 0x4f02e382
Faulting module name: softseal.api_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x441784f7
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
Tried following some of the temporary suggestions for the previous Adobe Printer issue (disabled protected mode, tried altering the printer share name), continually crashes.
I attempted to locate more information about softseal.api, but it's a bit scarce or I'm just not looking in the right way.
    Any ideas?

Our searches turned up the same information, and it apparently is related to some DRM tool, per some suggestions.  We were unable to determine where this would have come from.  Our images are pushed out with fairly limited amounts of software beyond Office and a few FOSS tools.

  • Faulting application rfcexec.exe, faulting module ntdll.dll

On a dev PI 7.1 SPS 8 server (Windows Server 2003, MS SQL 2008 DB, single host) I am getting this error in the Windows Application Log:
Faulting application rfcexec.exe, version 7100.80.14.21962, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4455, fault address 0x000000000003bbfb.
I have not been able to find anything specific on OSS or Google about it.
I have updated the Visual C++ files to 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update, patch 8 but this did not resolve the issue.
Any idea what it causing it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Paul,
besides ensuring your latest latest DLL, as specific in note 684106, i.e latest executables, latest DLL library,
I have no further idea. This could be compatibiltity issue with microsoft platform.
Maybe can open a case with Microsoft, because ntdll.dll is from Microsoft, not SAP.
some registry cleaning program, to scan all your dlls, identify and eliminate problematic dlls, could be helpful....probably.

    Vincent

Is there any sort of pattern to what requests trigger this, or is it just a regular thing that happens no matter what is being sent from the site?
w3wp.exe is basically the process that your app pool runs inside of, so if it is throwing faults it is 1 of 3 things, an unhandled exception in your program, an unhandled exception coming from iis itself or some sort of bug in the DI API.
I once had a similar untraceable issue happening and had to use a combination of proc-mon and debugdiag to finally discover that it was a rights issue; my iis was trying to write to a folder that it didn't have permissions for:

    Procmon:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
Use these to try and see if you can pull out the actual exception being thrown that causes the crash.
Also it is worth googling this and trying as many of the suggested fixes as you can - as you can see the causes can be numerous! These are just a few:

  • Faulting application firefox.exe, version 36.0.0.5531, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.3119, fault address 0x00012a5b

I cannot get firefox to start. It keeps crashing with the following message:
The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I uninstalled and removed the directory from program files, and reinstalled. I scanned the system for viruses. Still no good, same problem.
Details show: Faulting application firefox.exe, version 36.0.0.5531, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.3119, fault address 0x00012a5b

kernel32.dll 5.1.2600.3119 looks like a Windows XP version.
A Google search would suggest that this is a file from XP SP2, so best would be to update that computer to SP3
If this happens on a Windows 7 computer then make sure that you aren't running Firefox in compatibility mode.
You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
